Editing photo descriptions
Posted by Medina1128 on Tuesday, March 18, 2014 11:49 AM

In the previous edition of the forums, it was simple to add text describing images. Now, when I add descriptive text, it shows up as a link, instead of as simple text. Is there a way to add the text without it appearing as a link.

Hmm.  I like adding lots of pictures and haven't encountered that problem.

I wonder if not leaving a space between the picture data (which is a link) would create that situation.

...or if the picture data was on the same line as the text, like this

EDIT:  Well, none of those attempts show the words as links.  How are you placing the photos in your posts?  Mine are from photobucket, and I simply click on the line of img data there, then "paste" it into the composition window by placing the cursor where I want the picture to appear.

Perhaps, the tech gurus can explain this one. I do have this problem when I post photos. The link goes to my photo bucket account. Now, I write all of my text and then post the photos.

While we are at it......  Whaat hapened to spel checck?

I have the same problem.  It is just one of the many bugs in the new software.  I am wondering if they will get them all fixed before the next time that they rewrite to forum for no apparent reason.

To try to answer a couple of responses:

  • Doctorwayne - ALL of my pictures have a new line between the link and the text.
  • Bogp40 - All of my photos come from my Photobucket account. I also noticed that the text is blue.

Here is what I noticed; If I copy the photo link AFTER I type the description, the description appears right. If I type the description AFTER the link, it appears as a link.

This picture is of the office I made from a retired boxcar.

Marlon, which line are you copying from photobucket?  Your text is actually a link to the picture in photobucket, too.

This one is the img line placed using the link option here:

...and this just the img line pasted in:

Just testing to see what shows up. Smile, Wink & Grin

Wayne, I WAS using the "IMG" line in Photobucket...

Just to see if there's a difference... The one below is from the IMG THUMB

This picture is of the office I made from a retired boxcar. In BOTH cases, the line after the picture link, the text shows up as a link. Oh, and thanks, Garry.

Off topic, but is that a model of the Bertram building in S.Ont. Doc ? If so, rekindles some very old memories.

Not so much a model based on Bertam's, Bruce, but rather inspired by it, as a friend of my parents worked there.

Here's a couple of aerial views of it, courtesy of Secord Air Services:

I wonder if it has to do with your photobucket settings.  My albums have always been private, except for a time when I permitted those with a special password to view it.  After a big issue with my monthly bandwidth there being used up in less than two weeks, I made them completely private.  I keep nothing there but train related photos, but they now can be seen only if I post them in forums like this.

Wayne,

Please stop posting photos of this building.

I love it, but I cannot have it.

It is unfair of you to rub it in my face by continually posting this photo.

I hereby order you to cease and desist.   Super Angry

Rich ... I like the building too.

I'll post this photo with Photobucket settings now changed to private.

Edit ..... I posted the photo and typed a line below it. Still had same problem.

Now I removed typing from below the photo.

Help !

I'll have to check that out.  I only opened a photobucket account for this forum, as the other popular forum I post in lets you take photos from your computer.

I'm not a huge fan of Photobucket, as it seems to slow things up alot, especially when I leave it open in another window while I post.

I click on the picture I want to post, a larger picture comes up, I click on the "img" link, and a yellow box appears and says "copied",  I then go back into here, and paste it in.  So, while I'm doing this, I have the forum opened in one window, and open a new window to log into Photobucket.  Not sure what it is, but anyway......I have nothing private in there anyway, so I guess it's no harm, just seems like a nuisance to have everything that I write after posting a picture, is a link back to photobucket.

I hope I have "stolen" this thread, just trying to add my experiences with picture posting.

Have a good night!

Mike.

I get the dreaded blue text/link as well

It's pretty annoying.

I've contacted MR about this problem, and hopefully someone will attend to it.  This glitch seemingly leaves affected users' photobucket accounts open to illicit posting by anyone, and, since not everybody has the problem with their text turning into a link, I'm guessing that the problem is here rather than in photobucket.

Mike, my apologies for using your photo without permission, but it does illustrate that this may be more than a mere annoyance.

I have Photbucket also and also have this problem. But I think not everyone here who uses Photbucket has the problem?

Am I right that some have it work OK without the annoying extras?

I've suspected it might be a browser issue. I use Firefox. But maybe it's Photobucket and the forum interacting? Maybe it's both? Maybe it's something else? It is a computer after all.Oops - SignDunce

Guys,

I don't have this problem when I post links to photos in my Photobucket account.

How are you adding text to describe images?

Is it when you include text in the Image/Description box which appears when you click on Insert/Edit Image here on the forum in the Reply button?

Rich all I do is copy and paste the img code from Photobucket. All subsequent text is a blue line to P/bucket.

I haven't used the 'insert image' beacuse it doesn't seem to work properly for me.

I wonder if that is part of the problem.

I do not click on IMG in Photobucket.  I click on Direct in Photobucket to Copy.

Then, on this forum, after clicking on the Reply button, I click on Insert/Edit Image and Paste into the Source Box.

OK, I'm going to try that now.  I have opened Photobucket in another window, clicked on "Direct" on the picture, the box went blue, I "copied" it, now I will click on "Insert/edit link"

OK, now I dropped down two spaces to type this, now I click on "Submit reply".

Mike

EDIT:  No picture, just a link.   I think it's this crazy, out of control forum site.  Come to think of it, when I first started posting pics on here, I didn't have this problem.  Thanks MRR.

Mike, that is not the way that I do it.

Instead of clicking on Direct and having the box turn blue. try clicking on the image itself above that Direct box.

That makes the image appear larger, and a box titled Kinks to Share This Photo appears to the right.  Click on Direct and the Direct box turns yellow and the word Copied appears when you click.  Then, go back to the forum and click on the Reply button, then click on the Insert/Edit Image, and Paste into the Source Box.

OK, trying that.

http://i1297.photobucket.com/albums/ag22/wirails/IMG_1332_zpsc3b37450.jpg

Now I'll post.

Mike.

EDIT:  Nope, just a link.  Oh well, I even read what Photobucket say to do, and it's just what you do, which I did, and just get a link.

This is what happens when I copy and paste that link into the Source box on Insert/Edit Image.
