morning coffee in the diner..

GOOD SATURDAY MORNING!!

Today is Saturday,

December 7th, 2013!!

"The date {1941} that shall live in infamy"- Pres. Franklin D. Roosevelt

A reminder for USA: Today is Pearl Harbor Day!

{it just happens to be, Honest!  I did not stick Hawaii in here on purpose! Cue Music"Aloha Hawai'i"- the Hawaiian state anthemMusic}

Today's limerick: {for RAY}:

There once was a boy from Quebec

Who bought a new stereo deck
He played it quite loud
In front of a crowd
And now his new deck is a wreck

Today's weird words:

nimiety: (ni-MY-i-tee): noun: Excess or redundancy

quaintrel- a woman who emphasizes a life of passion expressed through personal style, leisurely past times, charms and cultivation of life's pleasures

volitorial: able to fly

Used in a sentence:

With nimiety, the quaintrel thought she was volitorial!

PRAYERS FOR THOSE WHO NEED THEM. FOR JOHNBOY-OUT and others; for those who remain anonymous; for those have passed recently;  and for world peace!

I'll just have a cup of Ethyl and set a spell.

G, You just reminded me that this is my step-dad's Birthday today, he passed in 05, if he would have lived, for today He would have been 105 years old, at 71 I don't know about how I would feel about that, if I were to go by how I feel now, naah! I won't think about it. Smile

Have a Great day All!

Cheers, Drinks

Good Morning Folks!

I have been battling a minor heart issue these past days. I am OK now, but still don´t feel up to par.

December 7th - not only the day of infamy, but also my father´s birthday. He would have turned 87 today. I still miss him so much.

Let me just sit here at the RC and watch who´ll be coming by...

Make it a great day!

Good Morning!!! Just coffee please. Quick stop in to say hey and I haven't read what happened yesterday so I hope nothing I should make a comment too. I'll try to read it later today if not tomorrow. Gotta get to the community center for the pancake and sausage breakfast for the Foundation this mornin. Me and the mayor are cookin. (self serving name drop there). Then Santa comes to town at 10 and he'll be here til one. Well, actually he comes at 9 but he rides around town on the fire truck for an hour which, will be a bit cold for the jolly old elf. But anyway, after that I will be at Brenda's mercy until I w*rk this evening. Covering for the other guy. Ya'll have a great day!!!

I think the thing I love about this hobby is that you can just get lost in your own little world and forget about any real problems. Trains and christmas for me go hand and hand as I got my first train set when I was a kid at christmas.

That's what this hobby is all about. I have long memories about trains, toy trains, and model trains. I can tune out the worldly problems with this hobby. Also, I can freelance enough so I make things how they should be. Of course, my era is before "Am-Trash" and Insterstate highways. USA had the best trains in the world in the 1950's. Because of the government, they were replaced with highways, airports, and Amtrak.

Ulrich.... Praying for your heart and things in general too.

Galaxy ...... You're a very thoughtful person. Glad you keep the canddles up. Good of you to mention Pearl Harbor Day.

Todd ..... Glad you took the time to make a brief appearance. Name dropping? That's OK. .... Oh I must hurry; one of our Senators is on the phone.Whistling

JohnBoy ... Hope you are doing OK following the difficult proceedures you had at the end of the week.

Here, the Lionel train is out of its box to perform annual Christmas tree duty.

Let's not forget Pearl Harbor Day. Glad Galaxy reminded us.

Good Saturday morning, Diners!

It's a balmy -21f. MINUS TWENTY ONE DEGREES. No wind so the windchill is the same as the temp. It will warm up to a sultry 4f by 4pm. The sun's out tho, and it's kind of pretty with the FOOT OF SNOW we received. Sheesh.

Went to my MOH's Christmas party last night at the hoity-toity country club. Good food and fun people.

Thanks for the remark,Rob. That's the only clean area in the basement ,tho! LOL!!!

It's a good day to spend downstairs so I'll check back in later!

Good wishes to all.  I'm officially done working for the year, having a bunch of accumulated vacation time I've got to use up, along with the end-of-year shutdown that give me that week, too.

First snow in this part of New England.  It was sleet last night as I drove SWMBO home from the airport, and there's a dusting on the lawn and places "where the sun don't shine," but the roads are dry.  Good thing, because I'm planning to head off to a train show as soon as I finish my coffee.

Ha and you think you have cold. It's currently -40 here with the wind chill at -48 oh and that -40 is in degrees F by the way. Going to warm all the way up to -25C this afternoon.

One of those "stay home days" except MOH just told me she needs me to do a Honey Do run to the grocery store. Super Angry

When I asked he yesterday if she needed anything from the store since I was out anyway I got the Oh nothing I can think of routine.....

Well, off to do some housework and then out into the frozen wasteland to the store.

Later all

Today is Christmas Open House at House of LION.

No tours of the train room, but LION must be in wine cellar to sell wine.

-24 'grees out here, I hope for a good turn out, but I would not want to go out doors if I do not have to.

Maybe people who live in little houses will be happy to get out, of if on a farm they live they might want to go to town anyway. LION will see what 'appens after the event.

You All come on out an buy some wine.

All right!

All you cold people stop trying to one-up yourselves!

SO it's a bit cold? Oh well.

WE will see single digits at least overnight this week too. The gas heat is set for a mere 63*F, as that is where we are are keeping the heat these days!

Not as cold as some of you frigid eskimos, but still on the chilly side. Time to get out the silk long johns. Time to washemup.

LION: I'd buy some wine but you said only for select customers! So sorry!

well, its been a slow day here. Only 11:47AM and seems like it should be 3pm!

There was a man with washing to do,

FOr him it was nothing new,

a new thing,though, to try,

He hanged out to dry,

All his silk  long johns, too!

He he.

Well, best get going the dryer squawks at me!

Mornin'......  Ahhhh,    Hmmmmm...  Ahem!  Afternoon folks!

Ah, Chloe, I'll have the rest of the Burro Raphiel From Last night...  Yep I brought home a doggie bag from the restaurant.  Doing that left room for dessert, it did!  More dark roast organioc coffee would be good with it too.  Thanks!

OK, lets play, my snow is colder than your snow... Smile, Wink & Grin  This selfie is from a few years ago.  Today the big yellow ball is peaking out from under the clouds and the thermo meter says 32°F.

Speaking of Duck Dynasty..... I think I look more like Brother Lion than Jeffrey though.....

I spent an hour down at my church at their SERRV Shop doing the Christmas shopping.  Still have to buy some things for the Granddaughters and my son, but have most everyone else taken care of.

Gotta get moving....  Will be going out to the party at the Museum tonight!

Later!

Good afternoon. It's 32° and cloudy with 99% humidity. The high will be 38° and feel like 34°.

Got up this morning to fin that we were pretty much without communications out here. Cable TV worked OK but internet was out and land line phone service was spotty at best. Cell phone service was OK. Internet is back up and running but still having some problems. Land line phone now appears to be all right. No plans set in stone today. I may work on Oliver's adventure later. That depends on what else happens.

Been pretty quiet in here I see. Our internet and phone service went down about four hours ago. Cable TV was fine but everything else other than electricity was out until about twenty minutes ago not counting a tiny four minute window that allowed me to get a post into the wind turbine warning thread. Other than that I copied some disks on the //e, backups mostly. I also got in a Starfleet1 mission.

There's that echo again!

I see Jeffrey in the corner booth.. Hey Jeffrey!

Not much here now. Awaiting that nasty storm to come this way. Will have to drip the pipes tonight!

Chicken Cacciatory over noodles tonight..was good but it was a MCCormic pre-blend of spices and too heavy on the ore-eh-gon-no, and the marjoram!

Well, Suze is on in  2 hours, so I think I'll nap til then since no one here to talk to...I see Jeffrey snuck outta here.

Later dudes,

STAY SAFE AND WARM TONIGHT!!

I don't have a pic of me to post, suffice it to say I look exactly like this:

Hiya gang! Cowboy

Flo, SWMBO made her chicken pot pie tonight, so dessert is all I can handle......Hmmmm, 3 scoops of ice cream, mint chocolate chip with Hersheys® syrup over it please! Dinner

Lion, Terry, Ray & Jeffrey. You are braver men than me. I try to keep my mug conceled when possible, for other diners pleasure. Surprise Today was "revenge of the laundry room" It started off with a shower that was unusually warm for SWMBO & me. Of course, she gets out before me, then the water turns cold.Surprise Then Jr experiences temp issues too. So I go down to the laundry room and check it. A quick diagnosis points to a failed element,,,most likely the bottom one. We have a service contract on it (Along with the heat, a/c & well system) so we called it in. 2 hours later the reapit guy comes in, confirms my suspicions, and replaces both elements. All is well til about 3 when SWMBO goes to check on her laundry and discovers 1/2 inch of water on the laundry room floor!!Surprise Soapy water! Hmm Out came the shop vac which got dumped several times after that, I'm guessing about 21 gallons of water was sucked up. Now heres the wierd part. Weve dried the floor, ran more loads of laundry, and no more leaks. The stationary tub pump system is working fine, the washer is only a year old, the hot water heater only 2 (dryer also). Is my laundry room posessed??Confused

Should I have our Minister come bless the appliances? Confused

Needless to say, RRing plans are disrupted.

On another front, (pardon the soon to be evident pun) my youngest has enlisted in the Army. He leaves August 18 for basic training, then 17 weeks later he goes to Ranger training.  Of course, as a parent, I'm concerned for his future, especially considering the state of current events in the world. Probably made worse by the fact that he's the youngest bird to leave the nest. But another part of me couldn't be prouder of the young man he is becoming. Big Smile From a kid who had to literally be tossed out of a bed only to play video games all day to someone who gets up a 4:30 a.m. to jog and refuses to ley the "old man" carry in firewood when he's here. Its quite a change already. Big Smile

I'll be chillin over at the RC for a bit with this ice cream!!Smile, Wink & Grin

Karl

Today has been taken up mostly by making backups of software for the //e. Some disks like Copy 2+, ProDOS Users disk and DOS 3.3 System Master I like to keep at three backups at all times. Also made multiple backups of the diagnostic software. I spent more time than I wanted to fine tuning the //e's flat screen monitor. The controls are all multi-function and naturally are tucked away so you can't see them when you're watching the screen to see what does what. It was a major pain in the butt to get the brightness and sharpness set how I wanted. Had time afterward to play a game of Starfleet1 but little else. Internet finally came back up and it took a while to get caught up on who's doing what and what's happening where. It may seem like I don't pay attention to your posts but I do.

Time for me to call it a night. See y'all tomorrow.

Freezing rain continues. So far we still have power and phone service. It's no where near as bad as the KY Ice Storm a few years ago. Church is closed this morning.

Karl .... Looks like you're having adventures as Todd does. Don't follow his example too much unless you like CHinese food.

Galaxy.... Glad you keep the Diner open regardless of weather.

Jeff .... Your computer projects are nver ending. I'm glad you enjoy them.

Have a good day everybody.

I'd better post quickly. Who lnows if we will lose power and internet with all of the ice.

Good Morning!!!

Coffee and egg fu yeung please. Thanks.

Dusting of…(gulp) sn*w on the ground. I say no more.

Our tree went up last night as I was at w*rk. I tell you what, we got one of those three piece self lit jobs and who boy is that the cats meow. I get out of just abot everything except the Angel at the top of the tree. Still has to be decorated, but that is her job because I don’t do it correctly. Go figure.

Pancake and sausage went great. Free food usually does. I was in charge of the sausage. They bake this brown and serve link stuff which, isn’t bad at all and people really seem to like it as they say “is that the same stuff you had last year? I’ll take a couple extra. Where’d you get it?” Oh well. Anyway, All I have to do is stand and watch the oven. You know, the cooking times on the box are written by the same yayhoos that came up with how long a frozen turkey should be in the refrigerator to thaw. They should just be punched in the face. Maybe their time times 4!!

Vehicle registration for me…1 truck (same as car), 1 year…. $106. Oh and 50cents. Includes $3.50 “convenience fee”.

Ray- Whoa. Has it been two years already? Man it sure don’t seem that long ago when you showed up with the photos.

Today, I know not what I do except I have to go to the restaurant to help my friends daughter make a plant or animal cell with a pizza. Yup, you read it right. She has a school project and thought us making a pizza look like a cell would be perfect. She’s 9 so I have to do the things she can’t do like roll out the dough, put it and out of the oven and reach things. Well why me when her Grandfather owns the restaurant and Mommy can help her? “No one can do this but Todd”. Mommy’s bringing her at 11 and a cell will be made. And….probably a pepperoni pizza for lunch.

Ooop! Alarm just went off gotta get to the restaurant to turn on the oven so’s to preheat. I’ll have to finish Saturdays post reading later and no time for funny little emotion face things. Don’t wanna be late. She’s just about my favorite kid.

After my dabbling with cells and such, probably into town for dinner and groceries.

Ya’ll have a good day, ya hear!!!!

Galaxy.... Glad you keep the Diner open regardless of weather.

We are JUST starting to get it here in the NE.

We expect "wintery mix" here for awhile, followed I guess, by sn*w.

I hope those who are already in it, or have been passed by it are "SAFE, WARM and COMFY".

I DO hope we survive with power remainimg ON, too.

Candles are lit for the passage of the storm with little or no ill effects!

VEhicle registration? about $85 for2 years, unless they raised it. annual Inspection? $20. Insurance? Priceless.

MAKE A GREAT DAY!

Good morning. Temp 36°. Humidity 94%. High today 42°. Cloudy. Rain.

Cool this morning and it looks like it's gonna be wet. No plans for today. I may work on Oliver's adventure later. I was up til 2:45 this morning collecting data to make a cheat sheet for the entry codes for Starfleet1. I found a site online that had a bunch of them sorted by word #, line #, page #, word. Example = Word 2, Line 3, Page 7, Award. The list plainly didn't have all of them but after I included the ones I've written down or marked in the Officers Manual over the years the list looks more impressive. I printed it out, both sides of one sheet. I also saved it on a flash drive. Having a handy list vs looking through the manual in search of one word is well worth the trouble I went to. I may work a nap in later.

***Ray, great work (as usual) on the building walls.

***Jeffrey, really like that C&O gondola a couple pages back. Nice!

Cold-ish, wet, raw day here. Ready for summer to return. Went to start the pickup to take it in to a rapair shop and it simply wouldn't start. Hope the gas didn't get too old. Need to get it fixed in order to buy plywood for the (HO) layout extensions.

Healing thoughts to those in need. Have a terrific day, all.

Cheers! Cowboy Rob

Afternoon floks!

Chloe, just a cup of decaf for me at the moments....

Galaxy....  So you folks down there are just starting to get it, huh?   Well, some people never get it do they!  OH!!!  You are talking about the winter storm named something or other by the Ad folks over at the weather (WARNING!!!!) channel.  I doubt we get anything at all up here.  They do have us under a WEATHER ADVISORY....  HORRLIBLE, STAY SAFE!!! thingie, but tyat just keeps the $$$ rolling in for them.  If power goes off here, I will just turn on the PiP and hook up the 1000 watt Pure sine wave inverter and see how it does.  Hey, I hope you folks survive even if the power does go off! Smile, Wink & Grin

BTW, I just had the PiP get it's NYS inspection last week.  Was only $10 for it, but there is a bunch of things they check out on regular ICE vehicles that don't apply on the PiP.

Went to church this morning.  The choir was perfoming their rendition of the Vivaldi Gloria in place of the sermon today.  Our interm Pastor was one of the soloists.  Other than being accompanied by the organ and being a bit out of the Baroque style in several ways, it was a reasonably good perfomance. Whistling

Will be going over to my son's house for dinner tonight and to check out the tree they are getting this afternoon.  He stopped by on the way home from church to borrow my saw.

Rob, thanks! I see you snuck in while I was posting...

Catch you all later!
