Evenin' folks!

Janie, just a refill for my decaf please...

After spending part of the day putting out fires, so to speak... I managed to spend some time in the train rooms and got a few more windows done for the Blacksmith's Shop.  By tomorrow evening before I head out to Scout Roundtable (I am helping with the rechartering extravaganza) I should have half the walls completed for the building.

Sun finally came out from behind the clouds this afternoon at about the same time the shadow of the pine trees nearby started to fall on my roof....  Still had a better day for electric today than the last several... This is the weak time of year for production.

About time to head out to bed so...  Prayers for all in need!

Time for me to close up shop here and get some sleep whether I want it or not. I tried getting a nap this afternoon but my nerves kept acting up and shooting shocks down my legs. Couldn't sleep not matter how hard I tried. Maybe I'll be able to tonight.

No work on either of the computers today, modern or antique. I did play a short game of Monopoly on the //e just to see if the game still worked. It works. And it's loud! Problem with the //e is the speaker volume can't be turned down. It has two two settings. LOUD and OFF and many programs don't know what OFF is.

See y'all tomorrow.

Paul ... I hope you meds can be taken care of so you don't have the side effects.

V8 Dennis .... I hate it when stupid politicans make stupid laws like the plastic bag law.

Terry ... That is an impressive photo at the high angle. It's a blimp view.

Mr. B ... Have fun with the Christmas decorations. We have not started ours yet.

Todd .... Driving to the doctor sounds like another Toddland adventure.

We took one of our cats to the vet to be spayed today. This is the one we got in Paducah. Now all three are "fixed".

The pair of bald eagles was in one of our trees today. I could not get a photo unfortuantely. I was going to take a picture from inside the house when the lady next door went outside to take a picture That scared them away, and I did not get the photo.

I worked some more on my sleeper/lounge car project today but not enough.

Happy Model Railroading

I had to divide my post into three sections. There is a "glitch" where anything you type following a picture is entered as a link to your photobucket.

Jeff ... Sounds like you are enjoying your old computers.

Oh you have no idea. Sometimes I take the boards apart just for the joy of putting them back together. A full tear-down, cleaning and reassembly takes about three hours. That includes pulling all the socketed chips and cleaning the legs of the chips and the holes in the sockets they fit into. My three IIe's are in better shape electronically and in overall performance than most of the IIe's still in operation today - and that's a bigger number than you may think. There are still schools, businesses and hobbyist all over the world that still use these dinosaurs including some schools and businesses in the US. One of my IIe's came from a school in the Illinois, Wisconsin, Michigan area and I restored it to like-new condition.

morning all..

GOOD WEDNESDAY MORNING!

Today is Wednesday,

December 4th, 2013!

Today's fun limerick:

There once was a guy named Praltzy,

WHo told his date "I'm feeling waltzy"

she said "Let's tango

or do the fandango

As the waltz seems to me a bit smaltzy"

Weird real words:

mumpsimus: a view stubbornly held even when shown to be wrong

grassation: a violent attack

Ubiquarian: Someone who goes everywhere

Used in a sentence:

Ubiqarian Sam's mumpsimus  about the grassation was only his point of view.

The prayer candles are lighted for ALL those in need.

MAKE IT A GREAT DAY!!!

Morning guys

Last night I went to the MR club and tried out that long coal train with my new athearn SD40-2s. Worked like a charm. I had an F45, 2 U30Cs, and an SD40-2 on the point; followed by 2 SD40-2s on the rear. Absolutely 0 issues.

Garry, what's the story with the bus grill?

Vincent

Wants: 1. high-quality, sound equipped, SD40-2s, C636s, C30-7s, and F-units in BN. As for ones that don't cost an arm and a leg, that's out of the question....

2. An end to the limited-production and other crap that makes models harder to get and more expensive.

Good Morning!!!

Coffee and a breakfast burrito please. Thanks.

Isolated showers. Areas of dense fog before noon. Otherwise, cloudy, with a high near 62. South southeast wind 8 to 14 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%. Winter arrives…tomorrow.

Garry- My whole life is an adventure.

Welp, today I think I’ll put up the walls at my friends house and maybe, just maybe, do a wee bit of Christmas shopping. Just maybe. Brenda wants a new Carhart coat and a DVD collection she found at Sam’s Club, of Godzilla. Not this new fake fella, the documentary type ones of the real Godzilla from the sixties and seventies. Still no mention of the Christmas tree. I believe she is waiting until I'm busy and it's an inconvenient time.

I know quite a few people with a case of the mumpsimus.

Good morning!  Driving home from hockey last night, I realized that Tuesday has become my best night of the week.  Yeah, it's hard to get up the next morning, and yeah, Wednesday evening is pretty much going to bed right after dinner, but it's just so much fun, and the guys I hang out with and drink beer afterwards have been some of my best friends for a decade or more.

There are a lot of similarities between the rink and the Diner.  We are concerned when someone doesn't show up for a while, and mostly we offer positive reinforcement.  And how many goalies get credited with a "Tuesday Night Shutout" for allowing fewer than 10 goals?

We're in the middle of a boring spell of weather.  The 10-day forecast has a bit of rain and a few spits of snow, with temperatures a bit above freezing most days and a bit below most nights.  It's not going to provide any natural snow for the ski areas, but it should be cold enough for snowmaking most nights.

Good morning. It's 69° with 96% humidity. The high will be 78°, cloudy and a little rain.

Not so good here. My step mother insisted that I do my laundry today instead of her taking care of it. She knows full well that the steps going up to the laundry room are a problem for me but insisted that I could handle. It's just two steps. How hard could it be? First time up was OK. Had trouble keeping my balance while loading the washer. Coming down I lost my balance and banged my knees on the floor. That's Italian marble and it doesn't give a bit. Second trip up not so good. Got up the steps all right but lost my balance and fell against the wall. That was OK. Got the clothes from the washer to the dryer OK. Closing the dryer was a small problem as the walker kept getting the way of the door. Making my way down those two steps for the second time I lost it. Banged my left knee again and hit my head against one of the dining chairs (wood with casters and arms) then my head tagged the floor. You know, you really do see stars. It took a little while before the room stopped spinning and I could concentrate again. My knees hurt like hell and I have a headache and a half but I'm feeling OK. God, I hate steps!

Sorry to hear of yor misfortunes at the hands of your evil stepmother, Jeffrey! ANd YEs, you can really see stars when you hit your head especially at the occipital lobe!

Well we go this afternoon to get a 4x8 and the other stuff to build the kid's layout for Xmas. Then off to their house for dinner...{the grandpa's house that is}.

MOH has new work hours starting next week, so that will be a treasure to get a nice paycheck for christmas..well it will arrive the 27th, but who's counting?

went to the good store to get some chuck roasts. good stuff, and on sale. Not as good as down the road the otherway, but their meat and handling proceedures have been called into question before. Nothing like bleached meat! {kills stuff, you know}. I used to shop at the good store but since MOH works for the competitor, I go to MOH's company. SO the good store gave me some freebies for spending only $40. I got an immediate 10cents off per gallon {usually takes $100 to get 10 cents off} and got a $5 off next purchase of $50! They musta missed me!

Well, we are expecting some packges today and some packages SHOULD be here by today, but apparently not! Grr.

I know, its the holiday time so slow...but I am impatient when the "promise" one day and it is a week later! AND I ordered a week before the TG madness! Grr.

Morning All, Currently it is 15 with an expected high of 28 under sunny skies with about 3 inches of s**w on the ground. Still cannot type anything in the reply window, so I have to use the quick reply. Need to do a load or two of laundry, some grocery shopping, and pick up my new perscription today. Then cook a few meals, maybe do some w**k on the layout. I need to buy some new tires for my Isuzu pick up, all season/snow tires. I hate to do it, since it has 246,000 miles on it, and will put me out $406.11, money which I really do not have. But with the way they plow, or not plow the roads here, I would rather risk damaging the truck than the Vue. Prayers to all in need. Paul

Mornin' everyone!

Zoe, I'll have a short stack of buttermilk pancakes with real NYS Maple Syrup, a side order of bacon, and lots of dark roast coffee for my R&GV RR mug...  Thank you Ma'am!

The big round yellow thing has suddenly appeared from behind the clouds for a while at the moment here in the Finger Lakes.  Currently 41°F with high around 44° later this afternoon.  I just made an appointment to drive the PiP to Canandaigua on Friday for the annual inspection.  I normally would just have it done by the tire place downtown, but don't know if they have a clue of what needs to be looked at (and not looked at) on my car.  They probably would have no problem as I'm sure they inspect other Priuses.  Mine just has a bigger battery pack....

Plastic/Paper Bags thing....  I just bring along my 30 year old canvas ones when I go Grocery Shopping.  Those bags are older than most of the clerks! Whistling

Todd....  Life is supposed to be an adventure! Smile, Wink & Grin

Galaxy, I'm wondering if that "Good" store is the same franchise where I go shopping for groceries.  Mine also has the 10¢ off per gal for the Fossilized crap at the pump.  Does yours also have a promotion on Towel Sets at the moment too?

I best get myself moving as i have many things awaiting my attention...

Later!

28f and freezing rain. Ugh. We received another 3+ " snow overnite and " they" are predicting 4-8" more before this is done. It's been named Winter Storm something -or- other now.

That's the bad news. Good news is more time for trains!!

Thanks Garry! That shot is down a 24' side of the first pennisula. Here's the other side:

Nope. On Cookware right now.

The store MOh works for is only down here and only in 8 stores in the Greater Bingo area. It developed the 10cents per $100 spent in reaction to the "good store"'s 10cents off USED to be for $50 spent, now for $100 too. MOH's store is also a GOOD store so don't confuse the two! The "good store" i referred to may be up your way too, it is based in Schenectady. MOh's store is based out of PA/MD and this regions 8 stores were a chain that was bought out by the PA firm.

PM me if you want more details!

Good Afternoon,

I had a Good Morning post largely typed but it went poof so perhaps thankfully, this is an amended, abridged version.

We are now getting a snowstorm here but in defence of the weatherman, it isn't the one that Dennis recieved. No this one crept in from down south. I think it is the western edge of the one Terry is getting but I guess our weatherman's mandate ends at the border so he couldn't see this one coming. Anyway we are to get about 20 cm. followed by high wind and temps of -25C.

Lucky I went to my LHS yesterday. I took in my BMan FA2 to sell which I had to do as I ordered a BLI NW2. I had been looking at one for some time but then saw one on BLI's refurbished list so I thought I would take a chance. I am sticking to my rule regarding HO in that I only buy if I sell. My loco roster is down by 6 even with the NW2 and now stands at 8. Small I know but I like them all and all are CN. Enough for my small layout.

Mr. B, I share you sentiments regarding Burl Ives and his Christmas tune. In fact we don't do much 'Christmas' anymore, not even decorations since my FIL passed away and also my mother. I find all the forced jolly time largely centered around buying stuff unappealing, but that is just me.

Well the retaining wall is now installed on the N scale and I just have a little touch-up work to do and it is finished. I'm waiting for the foam putty to dry right now.

See you soon,

CN Charlie

Saw that on the weather channel Charlie. Glad it's from South of the Border and all yours. We've got all we can handle here for the time being.

Also won't be wondering if we'll have a White Christmas this year not that we ever need to wonder Whistling

Cheers

I'm feeling much better now. Still have a titanic headache though and a light bruise along the side of my head just above the left temple. Also have a bruise on my left knee. That ones gonna ache for a while. My father and step mother are going to Lake Charles tomorrow so he can keep a doctors appointment. He'll be getting the skin on his back examined to see if there might be a problem there. Looks like there's gonna be a problem with the weather for sure. There's a 50% chance of rain and even more than that tomorrow night. In fact it looks like rain through the weekend with freezing or near-freezing low temps. The highs will be below 50° through the weekend and into the week.

Today I disconnected the green screen monitor from my //e and hooked up a small flat screen TV as a monitor. It makes it much easier to see my Monopoly and Lode Runner games. Speaking of games I have one of the first from Sierra-Online coming. It's called 'Mystery House'. It was one of the earliest hi-res graphics games made to run on the Apple II series computers. Coming in tomorrow is a 'Lobo Drives' 5.25" disk drive.

That's all for today. See y'all tomorrow.

Good Morning Folks!

Well, here I am. I have not been feeling well the past days - still in a low, depressed mood. Petrta is trying her best to cheer me up, but it´s not working. Must be the bear in me  - I am in hibernating mode (mood).

There is a big winter storm heading our way, which will hit us around noon. Schools are closed for the day and the folks along the coast are getting ready for some bad flooding. The storm is also supposed to dump a few inches of that wet n´white stuff on us, as temperatures will drop along its path. I am just glad that our power and communication lines are buried in the ground, so I guess there will be no major power outages.

While searching the web, I found an interesting and maybe a little odd loco.

This little critter runs with wood gas. Wood gas is a syngas fuel which can be used as a fuel for furnaces, stoves and vehicles in place of gasoline, diesel or other fuels. During the production process biomass or other carbon-containing materials are gasified within the oxygen-limited environment of a wood gas generator to produce hydrogen and carbon monoxide. These gases can then be burnt as a fuel within an oxygen rich environment. Wood gas vehicles were used during World War II, as a consequence of the rationing of fossil fuels. In Germany alone, around 500,000 "producer gas" vehicles were in use at the end of the war. Trucks, buses, tractors, motorcycles, ships and trains were equipped with a wood gasification unit.

One of these critters has survived until today at a museum "down south". Little Woody is "fired up" now and then - a time consuming procedure.

Make it a great day!

GOOD THURSDAY MORNING!!!

Today is Thursday,

December 5th, 2013!!!

Only 19 more shopping day left for those who celebrate!

MAKE IT A GREAT DAY!!!

Today's fun limerick:

A kid on a skateboard named Beanie
Raced with a red Lambourgini
He ran out of luck
and into a truck
The pieces they found were quite teeny!

Today's empowering words:

Morning guys,

Cool windy and cloudy here today, maybe a chance of some sun later on this afternoon. Im sure just in time for it to get dark. Not much planned, going to clean the house upstairs and down. This afternoon might pout a cup of coffee and head to the basement to run trains.

Might be back later this afternoon or tonight
