Same from meAngel. I tried sending JohnBoy a PM but it just isn't working.

It seems to come and go for me. Not that I sned/recieve a lot, but it seems now that it works sporadically it is needed.

I actually decided to light 3 candles for Johnboy-out this morning. One for his general well-being, one for his struggle and one for him to be blessed with strength to fight the good and courageous fight.Angel

I have also lighted a candle for all diners.Angel

I have also lighted a candle for any diners who have a  struggle and strife they are trying to overcome, but have not come forward.Angel

There is also one general world-wide candle for peace this holiday season, as there seems to be rioting in many paces in the world...Angel

And one final candle lighted for general needs....Angel

There are seven candles burning for special thoughts, prayers, and healing energy going out...

MAKE IT A GREAT DAY!!!

morning coffee in the diner...

GOOD TUESDAY MORNING!

Today is Tuesday,

December 3rd, 2013!!!

Today's fun limerick:

Honesty is something I find
that never gave me piece of mind
But The harder I try
It seems the more that I lie
And they are catching me up from behind

Today's weird words:

mouton enrage: a usually calm person who is angry; lit. “enraged sheep”

fremitus: a vibration

Kyriolexy: speaking literally. From greek meamning "proper speaking"

USed in a  sentence:

Mark was kyriolexy mouton enraged that the fremitus in his car was not fixed after paying the bill!

Special thoughts and prayers go out with one prayer candle lit for Johnboy Angel, and one prayer candle for all the diners who might be in need of special thoughts and prayers...Angel

Made it to Oakdale and back. The doc trimmed away the calluses and said the foot is looking great. He even trimmed the nails.

No progress whatsoever on Oliver's adventure.

Good Monday afternoon, Diners!

32 and snowing. Supposed to get a couple 3" or so.

This deer season was the worst in ten years. It sounds like I was very lucky to even see a deer at all, much less bag a buck. Oh well, only 344 days to go.

That's about all for now.

Nice job, Ray.

Afternoon folks!

Galaxy, I reply in the quote...

galaxy
Are you saving much money with the solar panels and the PIP? Well....  My total energy cost (Gas and Electric) this year will be about $300 less than last year (2012).  Now that is not really accurate for the electric as that is both gas and electric prices have gone up, I have made several energy efficiency improvements (furnace, etc.) and have added about 3kWh of electric for the PiP each day. Is it worth the costs for both? Payoff for the Solar Panels will take about 12 to 14 years at current electric costs.  Got your ouija board out?  What will the price of electric be in a decade?  Who knows.  Unless you have $$$ to invest that way I think it would not save you anything for quite a while to go solar at your place.  Doesn't hurt to ask questions from several companies to see what might be done though. As for the PiP, I can figure the difference in cost per mile against the Panels as opposed to Gasoline.  The PiP costs about 3¢ per mile to use EV and about 8¢ per mile for Gas.  Even without charging the battery it still gets the best gas milage of any HV out there (50+ mpg). How much electricity do you think you "steal" while charging at other's houses? Not a whole lot!  A charge will cost at most 35¢ around here (about 3 kWh).  Only places I "Steal" electric is at my son's house (He gets much more in return...) and at my sister's house when I am baby sitting her cats.  Again she makes out very well in the trade...  Wondering as I am thinking of solar panels on our tin can.{if we can afford such}...also wondering if a 2008 Prius is a good fit for the money. I hear the batteries wear out and are only good for 8-10 years oon them and a fortune to replace! a 08 would have used up 1/2 the battery life and would be needing new ones about the time it is paid off for us.  While batteries can and do "wear out" my understanding is that there are a good many 10+ year old Priuses still doing just fine on their original batteries.  You can get a rebuilt battery for around $2,000 I hear that would last for the time you would be driving the car.  I guess it would depend very much on what kind of price you end with for the car and how you finance it.  If you haven't, do take a drive in one to see if it is a car that would suit you and the "Other Halfs" needs and likes.  You can look up info on the Generation II Prius here: http://priuschat.com/categories/gen-ii-2004-2009-toyota-prius-forums.3/

Figured another way including the total usage for the year and the savings from kWh generated and the additional pro rated savings for the PiP when using EV rather than Gasoline....  Savings for me comes to about $600 + - per year.  I should be able to pay off the cost of the panels and installation in less than 10 years at current costs.  I may live long enough to actually save a few bucks at that rate... WhistlingLaugh

Hope that helps.  Do know that cost savings is only a very small part of why I made the choices I have concerning the energy sources and the car I drive....  It is a good investment for my children when I leave...  It is a conscious chioce to help this old planet as I can.  It is good for reducing the use of "our oil found under their sand"  (National Security issues).  And, I just like being at the cutting edge of some technologies.

Catch you all later!

well, an afternoon check in

It has come to my attention that one might think that perhaps  I have shirked my "prayer candle" responsibilities. Not so. In ministerial duties MOH lights one every day, and I am right beside with ones as needed. I always light one for those in the diner, here. And for requests, or when one makes it known that an event has occurred, I light one for them.

I have lighted 3 of them just now. Extra ones for one who is in need of prayers...so send healing thoughts the way of the diner, please!

I remind everyone that you don't have to believe in anything to accept or believe in the power of prayer!  That removes the "religious aspect" we are forbidden to share here, but allows for power of energy, especially healing energies to go as directed. We are all aware of various forms of energy all around us, often not seen. Direct healing energy towards those in need and they can greatly benefit.

Can we ultimately change the course of certain events? Perhaps not, but that positive energies mustered can make these events more tolerable to those who must, without a doubt, go through them.

So, as the song says Music"Light one candle..."Music

Healing thoughts and prayers for those in need.Angel

So, RAY: DO TELL:

Wondering as I am thinking of solar panels on our tin can.{if we can afford such}...also wondering if a 2008 Prius is a good fit for the money. Dunno.

Well, scrapped out the rest of the turkey and made "goulosh gravy" with it. Over stuffing or noodles is delicious!

The plumber is gone. Has an option for a H2o heater that is cheaper than others for us. still $1200 but hey, its not $3-5K!

well, I will ide my time to after the cyber monday deals, having had my CC compromised often enough has made me wary. Still have to call HAwaii yet. another 2.5 hours I will.

well, off to other things:

Afternoon folks,

Chloe, I will have a Reuben Sandwich, fries, and a cup or two of dark raost coffee for lunch today.

I stopped in earlier to see what was going on but got "side tracked" with some other things.  Todd and Charlie, thanks for your kind words.  I just spent an hour searching at Walthers and Caboose Hobbies to see if they had an HO scale horseshoe I might use on the doorway to no avail.  I will keep looking.  If any of you know of such a thing, let me know.  I am pleased with how the project is going at this point.  Always interesting to build something from scratch that hasn't been done before (to my knowledge at least) so everything is trial and error...  Mostly error at times. LOL  I contacted my "mentor" in the hobby, a well known author who happens to be a member of my NMRA Division.  His exact words for what I put here last night were: "Beautiful Modeling."  BTW, he will be having an article published sometime in the next few months in MR about a building I helped him measure several years ago.  I'll point it out when I see it in print.  I am supposed to be scratchbuiling that one too...  It is on my list but for sometime in the future.

Dull and gray here in the Finger Lakes.  Winter is almost here I guess.  Currently 38°F and just plain dull as Barry would say...  Where is that guy anyway?  I know he is in the Music business these days, but he could at laest stop by and say hello once in a while....

Need to do some errands downtown and go grocery shopping so I'll catch up with you later!

Good Morning,

CDN Dennis, please keep your snow right where it is. We are supposed to get up to 4 cm. today and that is quite enough. I sure don't envy you. I think a snowblower is a great health item in the sense that it will greatly reduce the risk of heart attack. A good friend of mine died shovelling snow 3 years ago and he was only 60. Should I ask about JMRI? If it isn't working why not just programme your locos with your DCC unit? I do it that way and while it takes a little more time it seems to work out fine.

Had a great week-end. On Saturday we took my MIL out for lunch to Cafe Carlo. I had a really great chili with toasted brioche on the side. Yesterday we had a fire in the fireplace, music and lots of snacks to while away the afternoon and it was great. The wine and Amarula helped too.

Ray, Wow that blacksmith shop sure is looking great! If you could just model that horseshoe over the door, you wouldn't be able to tell your model from the original. No pressure.

I did manage to get the retaining wall all cut to size yesterday and will finish painting it today with final installation hopefully today as well unless a Todd-type distraction occurs.

A few days ago someone was commenting on how a lot of drivers don't know how to get 'unstuck'. I always thought a  'three in the tree' was the best set up for rocking a car or truck out of trouble. Sure worked well in '62 Chevy II.

Well time to get busy at something. Coffee sounds good.

Just coffee please.

Didn’t get in yesterday, just kept putting it off until after I got this done, then that. Make a long story short…..didn’t get much done, it just took all day!Laugh

Jeff- Shoot you know me, I’ll look at anything so keep on keep’n on. I figured Galaxy could throw in a line from a song, so could I. I am following your game progress as well. Considering I have all PC’s, it’ll be the closest I get to playing it.

Ulrich- The toned down red looks better.

Ray- The walls look picture perfect! Very nice coloring!!! Bow Very nice. It really does look like a picture has been glued to the wall with and outsanding 3D effect. I can tell this project is gonna be an award winner.

Today Brenda gets her eyes dialated(sp?) for some reason relating to her heart attack, or her “diabetic condition”, that showed up only after her being prescribed 80mg of Lipitor WHICH she needs only for the stent greasing it appears and turns out to be a side effect of that amount. Anyway, not much planned due to the fact she apparently has some reservations about driving home after and wants me to risk both our lives driving in town at the same time. Oh well, maybe she’ll be hungryDinner.

Ya’ll have a good day, ya hear!!!!

Good morning. It's 61° with 100% humidity and patchy fog. The high will be 72°.

It won't be too much longer til I head out for Oakdale to Oakdale to have the calluses on my foot filed down.

My father and stepmother are outside trying to chase down a rat they saw out by the dryer vent. It doesn't look like they're having much success.

Did some Christmas shopping yesterday. Nope, didn't go anywhere. Did it all from right here. So far that involves a pair of shoes, a DVD and a 1/25 scale model car. That takes care of my father, BIL and nephew. Now I need to find out what to get for my sister, my niece and her husband. For the moment they're as tight lipped as a bunch of clams with lockjaw.

Ja Bear:

Nice limmerick!

Well, the Plumber is here to snake the pipes. Hes not having much luck as his snake is only 30 feet long and the pipe is about 40. He is trying water flushing and that is not working either. He is making horrendous noises now I wonder what he is up to? MOH is watching now. He will also service the H2O heater as well for free. make it stop grumbling and rumbling each time. I hope. It has to do us for about 2 years then we replace it. AT $1700 for a new one, and then have electricity run to that closet as well...seems like about 2K!

I have gotten 32 emails with Cyber mOnday deals! I already did my shopping. SO I think I can pass on all of them. I did peruse some though, nice prices on some things.

So..what else is new?

Have to wait til about 3 pm my time to call HAwaii and ask about my order...

I guess all the star fish are dying in the ocean? WOnder why?

So back to watching the plumber.

Good Morning!

It was an icy cold night last night, but now the sun´s up and shining. Still just a notch above freezing, though.

Janie, a cup of hot chocolate, please. Maybe that makes me feel a little happier.

Jim- that´s exactly the issue. My heart is not here, nor is Petra´s. We both don´t feel at home here, but have no place to go. Uprooted, you could say. There are times when this realy makes me feel depressed.

Took a few pictures of my treasures this morning.

This one is a relict from the days way back when I still had a house, a garden and a garden railway in it...

This one shows nearly all the treasures I have. That Alaska RR F7 will have to go to contribute to my MRRing budget.

... and the critter will bes old also. The street car is for keeps, as it has no commercial value.

Did a few minor touch-ups to the critter, but I now will leve it, as it is.

No plans for the rest of the day, I am still in a low mood.

Make it a good one!

GOOD MONDAY MORNING!

chochowillie

December 1st and here it comes again. We've 1.5 ft of snow already and the following is for your edification and "Glad it's him and not US" feelings. Mind you maybe LION will get some of it too.

Blizzard warning in effect.

Tonight, 1 December
Cloudy. Snow at times heavy beginning early this evening. Amount 10 to 15 cm. Local blowing snow overnight. Wind becoming north 30 km/h gusting to 50 near midnight. Low minus 7.
Monday, 2 December
Snow at times heavy. Blizzard developing in the morning. Snowfall amount 10 to 15 cm. Wind north 50 km/h gusting to 80. Temperature falling to minus 12 in the afternoon.
Monday night, 2 December
Blizzard. Snowfall amount 2 to 4 cm. Wind north 50 km/h gusting to 80. Low minus 16. Wind chill minus 29.
Tuesday, 3 December
A mix of sun and cloud with 60 percent chance of flurries. High minus 15.
Wednesday, 4 December
Sunny. Low minus 19. High minus 17.
Thursday, 5 December
Sunny. Low minus 31. High minus 21.

Cheers all, I'm going to go warm up the snow shovel. No sn*w blower unfortunatly although I was looking at Home Depot with great longing but $700 smacker is a lot rich for me right now with Christmas just 24 days to go.

Dennis

Please don't send it our way!  When you get a blizzard and it comes our way, we call it an "Alberta Clipper" and it means lots of snow.  We've had only 28 cm of snow so far and that's plenty for now.  I'm thankful I've got a snowblower.  It's a second hand machine but it runs well and sure beats shovelling.

Today I got some debugging work done on Oliver's adventure. This time I saved the changes as I went along. I also programmed in two more compartments, #'s 4&5. He may be able to find some things in them. Still got compartments 3,2,& 1 to go and then the deluxe compartments D1, D2, D3 and D4. Yes, this is a good sized luxury passenger coach.

I got the Varney/Athearn F3 back together. Nothing to it.

Tomorrow I have to go to Oakdale to get my foot looked at. Nothing serious. Just routine.

Well it's time to call it a night. See y'all sometime tomorrow.

Evenin' folks!

Janie just a cup of decaf and a seat by the stove for right now.

Dennis, sounds like some great camping weather coming your way...  As long as it stays below freezing and you have adequite shelter from the wind, this can be great camping!  I know, I'm a bit crazy, but i used to love Winter Camping back in my Troop Leader days.

Got back from dinner at my son's house with home made cake for dessert in honor of me being an old Phart!  The Granddaughters each gave me a beautiful school photo taken of them (I think Mom got the frames for them), DIL got me a pair of bedroom slippers (Ineed a new pair), and my son gave me a couple books of political humor to keep my mind churning out the nasty humor I am known for (No more should be said here at the forum...  Oh!  Hi Vinnie...), DILs Mom gave me a gift certificate to the local LSH downtown and I got a couple Lbs of Dunkin Doughnut Bean Coffee from my son's BIL.  Pretty good haul, a fine diner, and got to bowl with my Granddaughters on Wii.  The 6 year beat me I am sad to say...  (Like I really minded, LOL).

Got home and finished up the front wall of the Blacksmith's shop (have a bit of cleaningn up to do on it, but basically done) so two walls are complete.

I managed to drive all the way out to my son's house tonight in EV mode, charged the car while I had dinner, and then drove home in EV without the ICE ever running....  That's pretty good for this time of year.  That means when pulled into my driveway the gas milage for this tank had gotten up to 76mpg.  That would be much higher except for a trip to Rochester last week.  Cold and rainy here in the Finger Lakes tonight.  Currently 34°F outside.  Not good camping weather at all.  Just above freezing and wet is as bad as it gets!

Hope all of you had a great day.  Prayers for those in need!

Jeffrey, I'd agree with Ray's comments - keep up the old Apple pics-posting! Yesterday when I looked at your last post in the previous Diner, I found myself thinking, "Let's see, that's a Disk ][ Drive controller card, and that one must be..." And because I'm sure your story screen pics are only one possible outcome, I too doubt that you gave away all the secrets of your game. There are so many ways one of those text adventures can go! Do you have a RAMWorks card in your "development" IIe? Guess I wasn't the only one who got one of those.

I have a Ramworks card but it's no good. What I have in my 'development' computer as you call it is in the 'AUX' slot is a 'chip height' Apple 80-column/64k RAM card to line out the memory to 128k. Slots 1 & 2 are empty. Slot 3 is considered occupied as it's connected to the 'AUX' slot. Slot 4 has a Microsoft CP/M co-processor, slots 5, 6 & 7 are occupied by Disk II controllers. When my Lobo drive comes the Lobo Drives controller will go in slot 7. The disk II controller in that slot will go back in my mothers old IIe.

The musta read the paper this morning too. My Aunt & Uncle used to be members of the same church, in fact they were my parents next door neighbors, til the move 25 mile away to another farm! Still, lots of folks remembered my Aunt.Big Smile

Then a visit to the in laws, then I installed 4 new burners in our gas grill and cleaned out the rainspots, now that our huge maple tree is bare! Now I'm bushed, and I have classes the next 2 days from 8 til 1!! Surprise Then the services for mu Aunt are Tuesday afternoon. So no choo choo time for me! Sad (Til maybe Wednesday!)

Good afternoon, Flo - I'll have a BLT, cheesey fries, and a RBF, please. Thanks!

Galaxy, I noticed your 'missing limerick' (or absence thereof...) when I got to the new Diner today. I do at times stretch my mental muscles a bit, 'saying' the limerick (in my mind). But perhaps that has more to do with when I first really heard many limericks (in college), which usually was accompanied with the intake of alcoholic beverages...

Jim in Cape G.

THOSE kinds of limmericks, besided booze, were often accompanied by lines like : "there once was a man from nantucket...or ...there once was a girl from..." and were CLEARLY NOT printable here!

There are a few I'd like to post, but would be clearly in violation of the rules of the diner! Some only have suggestive suggestive meaning...if you get my drift... but I keep those NOT here!

If anyone DOES want a good laugh and is not opposed to suggestive ones, they can PM me for a few diddies!

Just my thoughts, ideas, opinions and experiences. Others may vary.

After long and careful thought, they have convinced me. I have come to the conclusion that they are right. The aliens did it.

Ulrich - lovely photo in your post today! Thumbs Up And I would go with the quote about "Home is where the heart is", which is somewhat related to Ray's first 'definition'.

My thoughts go to all those who have lost loved ones near this time of year. Harder for those left behind, and we will be keeping you in thoughts and AngelAngel.

I wouldn't mind a little of that white fluffy stuff on the ground (but haven't yet heard of any in the near future, not in my neck o' the woods, at least). I grew up where there was sn*w around early December/January/etc. (St. Louis area and for a bit, even further north), so I'm okay with driving in the stuff, and I like how things kinda slow the tempo down. Of course, there was the time when I lived way south of here, in a flat land (nope, not the book Flatland...) where they rarely got any sn*w. It was almost funny to watch the drivers trying to drive like usual on the sn*wy streets. (But when I lived in St. Louis, if school was out due to the white stuff, we'd go looking for an empty mall parking lot, and drive 'donuts'...Smile, Wink & Grin

Haven't started my Christmas shopping yet (just emailed back my daughter today, asking her to send me gift suggestions for her and "the boys," as she calls her hubby and their two sons). I may get the Christmas decorations boxes out, but will need to do the annual "Where do I set the printer aside until after Christmas, so I can use its stand for the (apartment) Christmas tree?" routine. Thinking I may not have the layout wired up in time to run any trains this year, again. Sigh

Flo, could I please have a refill on my RBF, please? Thanks! I'll be here at the window booth, just relaxing.

Blessings and prayers,

Jim in Cape G.

Italian roast coffee in an UNDECORATED mug, please.

***Jeffrey, more terrific RR pics I see.Thumbs Up

I am quite content living on my farm here in north Georgia. My relatives are scattered all over the country with one brother as far away as Hong Kong.

Need to work on cutting more firewood. Not a winter person but at least most are generally mild here.

Cheers! Cowboy Rob
