Fed/Ex delivered the item I got for my niece. She's gonna flip when she sees it.

What'd ya get her? A spatula? Laugh

Good Morning!!!

Coffee and the breakfast pile please. Thanks.

No sn*w last night. Looks like Inch got his fair share of sumpthin though.

V8Dennis- Our dog is just the opposite of yours. She goes out when she has to, or when she goes for walks etc, but othern that, she wants to be inside with us. Unless of course I’m outside, then she wants to be outside. Unless it’s hot out. Then she wants inside. Until she cools off. Then she wants outside to see if I’m still there and check out what I’m doing. Then she gets hot and the cycle starts all over. Women. All the same whether they’re human or dog.

HEY! I knew what malinger meant!!!

Foot’s feeling better by the day. Been slow goin I must say. I been stayin off of it as much as I can though that’s easier said than done.

If I go into town today and get Brenda’s second giftHmm, I will officially be done with my Christmas shoppingYeah. At least for now. You know, until she drops another item in the mix at the last minute. As per tradition. We don’t go all out on gifts. Just a couple gifts. Over the years we pretty much have everything we need and most things would just be stuff just to get somethingHuh?. We have enough stuff laying around that an expression of love in that manner would be…Confused…well, let’s jut say we’re trying to get rid of a lot of stuff accumulated over the years. We don’t need any more stuff just sitting around.
And speaking of expressions of love, I got one more load of laundry to do and a floor to vacuum, a gift to buy, a dinner to eat, some more footy excercises to do, and a rest to take. All before w*rk  tonight. Whew! Don’t know how I do it.Wink

Ya’ll have a good day, ya hear!!!!

Good Morning,

Mr. B, I share your sentiment entirely. Very nice post regarding Nelson Mandela, truly one of the greatest men of our time.

When my wife and I were in South Africa this past spring, we went to the last prison where Nelson Mandela was held. We were lucky to visit the house on the prison grounds where he lived even though it isn't run as a tourist site. In fact it is just being kept much as Mandela left it. The fellow who was our guide works for the prison and gave us a lot of wonderful anecdotes of Mandela's time there. He even climbed the lemon tree that Mandela planted there to get us a lemon. We will be planting the seeds now and hopefully it will grow.

Sure hope Johnboy is doing ok and doesn't have to outside today as the windchill in Regina is -44C this morning. Ours is only -33.

Good Morning All!

Flo, Just a big ole mug of java,,,Wink

Its lightly raining, temps around 50. Supposed to cool down later

Hot coffee on tap for right now, then some paint work to do. then later, pick JR up from school, drop some engines off to a customer, then go to a friends house for a run session tonight!

Now that I didn't have to take SWMBO to and from work, I might get something accomplished today! No, the EX still is being her normal uncooperative self. Devil I just found a nice helpful lady at the DMV. She actually was able to release the title from the Ex's encumberances and get me a new, clear title and tags on the spot yesterday!!!Big Smile Now the bad part, it cost me $293.50 to retag my own car! Surprise $135 for normal registration(2 year), $20 bucks for new plates, $100 bucks for a new title and $38.50 for vehicle sales tax (Minimum amount acessed) So I had to pay sales tax on a car I already owned. ConfusedConfusedHmm  Maryland, the "free state", where nuthin is free!Sigh Yup, and I didn't even get kissed!Laugh

Ray, that blacksmiths shop is really turning out great, can't wait to see it done!Thumbs Up

-18 degrees outside at the moment.
I have turned off the air conditioner, and the cool air intake fans to my office/server room. Of course the intake fan is still open to the outside to the temperature here has gotten down to 60. There is no heat in my office, so if I want it warmer, I'll just have to turn on more servers.

Or else retire to the train room. That can be too hot in the summer, but has a big fat radiator, with lots of steam in it for the winter.

Please pause for a moment to reflect on the memory of Nelson Mandela.  Having lived through most of the 20th century myself, I was thinking that of all the great leaders, Wilson, Roosevelt, Churchill, Kennedy and the like, Mandela stood above them all.  He took one of the most racist nations in the world and turned it into a model of tolerance, all without firing a shot or raising a hand in anger.

I choose not to mourn, but rather to celebrate a long life well lived, and finally ended in peace.

GOOD FRIDAY MORNING!!!

Today is Friday,

December 6th, 2013!

MAKE IT A GREAT DAY!

The prayer candles are lit for those in need and for world peace...

Today's fun limerick:

There once was a boater named Sam,
who when he was stuck in a jam,

Today's interesting words:

ineluctable: adjective: Impossible to avoid: inescapable

malinger: verb intr.: To feign illness in order to avoid work

The boss was disprize to admit it was ineluctable to deal with malingering employees!

Building is looking good Ray.

*

Today was a little busy for me. As I posted earlier I got two disk drives today. An Apple Disk II and a 'Lobo Drives' 5.25 floppy drive. Both tested good. The Disk II is flawless. The 'Lobo' turned out to have a serious problem. It was destroying the start and catalog tracks of some disks. I tracked the problem back to the drives internal control board. So that board is now in the junk box and an Apple board has been installed in it's place. That also meant changing the drives interface cable. A 20-tab card edge connector wasn't going to work on a board with a 20-pin connector. So now I have a drive with a 'Lobo' chassis and an Apple control board and the 'Lobo Drives' logo on top. So is that a 'Loble'? or an 'Appblo'? or an 'Appobo'? Whatever it is it now runs DOS 3.3 and ProDOS and would probably run CP/M if I put it on slot 6. It still sounds like dry bones rubbing together. I then spent a couple of hours repairing the destroyed parts of the disks that had been effected. That's where a good bit copy program comes in handy. In most cases only one sector of a track was effected so only that one sector had to be replaced. All of the disks involved were copies. That's why I still have original software with viable backups that are 30+ years old.

So the Christmas gifts for the family are starting to come in. So far I have the gifts for my niece and my BIL sitting over here against the wall. My father is enjoying his new shoes. I'm still waiting on the gifts for my nieces husband, my nephew and my sister. My step mother has made it plain that she wants nothing from nobody so that's exactly what she's getting.

Time to call it a night. See y'all tomorrow.

Evenin' folks!

Janie, just a refill on the decaf please...

Jeffrey, glad you are felling better!

Curt...  Too hot for me down there...  Today was pleasant here in the Finger Lakes.  Got up to 57°F.  Didn't even need to wear a heavy coat outside!  What do the skunks think of your layout changes?

Tomorrow I will be getting the PiP inspected and doing some electrical work for my sister in Canandaigua.  Will also need to drop off a pile of checks at a bank there for the MLK Committee Sholarship Fund.  Later she will be taking me out to dinner....  Dutch Treat most likely.

This morning a local Rochester Radio/TV Station had a few viseo segments on their morningt news of a local TV/Radio announcer who is also a Model Railroader.  The other gentleman (Jim) and his son who they interview at the guys home is a friend of mine out at the museum.  His 8 or 9 year old son has worked as my assistant on the caboose a few times as car host  Nice folks!  Enjoy!  http://www.13wham.com/news/features/this-morning/stories/125-tom-georges-trains-pt-1-1087.shtml

And then there were 5!!!

Not completely finished with them but getting there.  Three more walls to do doors and windows in and I can assemble the main part of the building....  PROGRESS!!!

Have a great night everyone!

Evening All,

Hope everyone is doing well.

Sitting here thinking about the layout and the major changes that I started today. Right now it is a 13'x8' rectangle with 2 large openings in the middle that requires crawling under the layout to get to them. As I am not getting any younger I decided to change that to a single loop continuous track in a U shape requiring extensions on both sides of the left end. I am also going to widen the track curves on the right end so I can run whatever steam I want to do. I will have to modify the sidings also. I am probably looking at 6 months work but that is OK. I have found I really enjoy working on the layout.

Went shopping earlier today and bought gifts for our grandsons (games and models to build).

Jeff- Hope you are doing better.

JohnBoy- Hope and pray you are doing well.

It is hard to believe that how bad the weather is in the rest of the country, Canada, and Germany and we will have highs around 83 F at least until Tuesday here.

Hope everyone has a good night and prayers for those in need.

Mail delivery was a little late today. I got two boxes, both containing one disk drive each. The first is an ordinary Apple Disk II 5.25" disk drive. It came with a diskette already in it. Hooked the drive up to my boot boot card (slot 7) and ran a full test on it. Drive speed perfect! Read/write function perfect! Operation is very quiet. I then booted the diskette. It was extremely anal about booting from slot 6 so booted from there. It's a game called 'Infidel', a Zork type text adventure. It seems to work very well.

The other drive is a 5.25" 'Lobo Drives' disk drive. Runs good but it's noisy. Sounds like dry bones being rubbed together. It quieted down a bit during testing. The drive speed was at 198.7, the extreme low side of the speed range. I reset it to 200.4, the nominal setting halfway between the extreme low and extreme high speeds. 200.4 is as close to perfect as it's getting. While not an Apple drive it's what's called 'Apple compatible'. It recognizes DOS 3.3 (mostly what I use) but doesn't recognize ProDOS. I could fix that by replacing the 'Lobo Drives' control board with an 'Apple' control board but then it wouldn't be a 'Lobo Drives' drive anymore. It would be a drive with the 'Lobo Drives' name on it. I didn't check to see if it recognized CP/M but then I won't be using it for running CP/M programs.

Fed/Ex delivered the item I got for my niece. She's gonna flip when she sees it. I'm expecting more stuff tomorrow. A 1-pack of blank disks, a game disk (Mystery House), a tools disk (diagnostics), a DVD for my BIL (Red, Bruce Willis, go figure), a model kit for my nephew (Munster Koach).

My father got me a 'gift' yesterday. A set of print cartridges to be used in his HP J4550 All-in-one. I figured it would be something he'd benefit the most from. Well I tell you what, I'm gonna put some use on those cartridges.

Photobucket techs are goofing around with the settings again.

I arrived home from a trip yesterday to a couple of boxes of train stuff, only to be frustrated.  As I have mentioned elsewhere, I inherited some trains from an uncle, including an HO Rivarossi American Orient Express.  Seeing as I have only been dabbling in N, I put the Rivarossi aside until recently.  My wife would like a train around the Christmas tree so I thought, "Here's the perfect use for the Rivarossi set."  Again, as previously posted, my first mistake was ordering some Kato Unitrack, code 83 vs. the code 100 required for the Rivarossi loco wheels.  This brings me to the latest chapter.  I ordered some Bachmann EZTrack for the oval, 22” radius based on the space available for the tree.  I get it all set up only to find that the trucks on the engine are binding on the relatively tight curves.  I am about ready to give up on using this “free” train; it is being to be a little too expensive.

Good morning. It's 71° with 100% humidity and patchy fog. The high will be 72° and feel like 78°.

Not much going on today. Got a 'Lobo Drives' disk drive coming in today. Also expecting a 10-pack of blank disks, a DVD and two Apple II program disks (Mystery House, Computer diagnostics). Now that I have a color monitor on the //e I may play some Starfleet1 today. Never seen it in color. If the weather doesn't get too bad I may be able to work on Oliver's adventure a bit too.

Morning guys,

Cool windy and cloudy here today, maybe a chance of some sun later on this afternoon. Im sure just in time for it to get dark. Not much planned, going to clean the house upstairs and down. This afternoon might pout a cup of coffee and head to the basement to run trains.

Might be back later this afternoon or tonight

Good Morning Folks!

Well, here I am. I have not been feeling well the past days - still in a low, depressed mood. Petrta is trying her best to cheer me up, but it´s not working. Must be the bear in me  - I am in hibernating mode (mood).

There is a big winter storm heading our way, which will hit us around noon. Schools are closed for the day and the folks along the coast are getting ready for some bad flooding. The storm is also supposed to dump a few inches of that wet n´white stuff on us, as temperatures will drop along its path. I am just glad that our power and communication lines are buried in the ground, so I guess there will be no major power outages.

While searching the web, I found an interesting and maybe a little odd loco.

This little critter runs with wood gas. Wood gas is a syngas fuel which can be used as a fuel for furnaces, stoves and vehicles in place of gasoline, diesel or other fuels. During the production process biomass or other carbon-containing materials are gasified within the oxygen-limited environment of a wood gas generator to produce hydrogen and carbon monoxide. These gases can then be burnt as a fuel within an oxygen rich environment. Wood gas vehicles were used during World War II, as a consequence of the rationing of fossil fuels. In Germany alone, around 500,000 "producer gas" vehicles were in use at the end of the war. Trucks, buses, tractors, motorcycles, ships and trains were equipped with a wood gasification unit.

One of these critters has survived until today at a museum "down south". Little Woody is "fired up" now and then - a time consuming procedure.

Make it a great day!

I'm feeling much better now. Still have a titanic headache though and a light bruise along the side of my head just above the left temple. Also have a bruise on my left knee. That ones gonna ache for a while. My father and step mother are going to Lake Charles tomorrow so he can keep a doctors appointment. He'll be getting the skin on his back examined to see if there might be a problem there. Looks like there's gonna be a problem with the weather for sure. There's a 50% chance of rain and even more than that tomorrow night. In fact it looks like rain through the weekend with freezing or near-freezing low temps. The highs will be below 50° through the weekend and into the week.

Today I disconnected the green screen monitor from my //e and hooked up a small flat screen TV as a monitor. It makes it much easier to see my Monopoly and Lode Runner games. Speaking of games I have one of the first from Sierra-Online coming. It's called 'Mystery House'. It was one of the earliest hi-res graphics games made to run on the Apple II series computers. Coming in tomorrow is a 'Lobo Drives' 5.25" disk drive.

That's all for today. See y'all tomorrow.

Saw that on the weather channel Charlie. Glad it's from South of the Border and all yours. We've got all we can handle here for the time being.

Also won't be wondering if we'll have a White Christmas this year not that we ever need to wonder Whistling

Good Afternoon,

I had a Good Morning post largely typed but it went poof so perhaps thankfully, this is an amended, abridged version.

We are now getting a snowstorm here but in defence of the weatherman, it isn't the one that Dennis recieved. No this one crept in from down south. I think it is the western edge of the one Terry is getting but I guess our weatherman's mandate ends at the border so he couldn't see this one coming. Anyway we are to get about 20 cm. followed by high wind and temps of -25C.

Lucky I went to my LHS yesterday. I took in my BMan FA2 to sell which I had to do as I ordered a BLI NW2. I had been looking at one for some time but then saw one on BLI's refurbished list so I thought I would take a chance. I am sticking to my rule regarding HO in that I only buy if I sell. My loco roster is down by 6 even with the NW2 and now stands at 8. Small I know but I like them all and all are CN. Enough for my small layout.

Mr. B, I share you sentiments regarding Burl Ives and his Christmas tune. In fact we don't do much 'Christmas' anymore, not even decorations since my FIL passed away and also my mother. I find all the forced jolly time largely centered around buying stuff unappealing, but that is just me.

Well the retaining wall is now installed on the N scale and I just have a little touch-up work to do and it is finished. I'm waiting for the foam putty to dry right now.

See you soon,

CN Charlie

Galaxy, I'm wondering if that "Good" store is the same franchise where I go shopping for groceries.  Mine also has the 10¢ off per gal for the Fossilized crap at the pump.  Does yours also have a promotion on Towel Sets at the moment too?

Nope. On Cookware right now.

The store MOh works for is only down here and only in 8 stores in the Greater Bingo area. It developed the 10cents per $100 spent in reaction to the "good store"'s 10cents off USED to be for $50 spent, now for $100 too. MOH's store is also a GOOD store so don't confuse the two! The "good store" i referred to may be up your way too, it is based in Schenectady. MOh's store is based out of PA/MD and this regions 8 stores were a chain that was bought out by the PA firm.

PM me if you want more details!

Hope JEFFREY is doing Ok after his head boinger! Take one lie daown, 2 aspirin and see if you still see three of me in the morning!

 HO and N Scale.

After long and careful thought, they have convinced me. I have come to the conclusion that they are right. The aliens did it.

Good Wednesday morning, Diners!

28f and freezing rain. Ugh. We received another 3+ " snow overnite and " they" are predicting 4-8" more before this is done. It's been named Winter Storm something -or- other now.

That's the bad news. Good news is more time for trains!!

Thanks Garry! That shot is down a 24' side of the first pennisula. Here's the other side:

Prayers for those who need them!
