Today I actually snapped a Kadee 118 coupler. It was on F7A Frankenloco of the F unit trio, and it was the metal shank that snapped, not the coupler head. I'd have to say it was metal fatigue from the constant flexing between the heavily lead weighted A unit and the weight of the rebuilt Varney metal F3B behind it. Now I know it can happen. Replacing it wasn't a problem and the consist was back in action within twenty minutes. There was no pileup. Not even a minor derailment. The broken off half of the coupler stayed coupled to the 119 coupler on the F3B. Speaking of F3B's, the newest one in my expanding collection of metal F units should be here tomorrow.

Time for me to call it a night. See y'all tomorrow.

 Evening All,

Got my friends stock all glass bedded and mostly cleaned up. Still need for the glass epoxy to cure completely before doing final clean up and reassembly.

Only my daughter showed up for dinner, SIL had to help his family with some project. We had a good meal, some good conversation, and she cut my hair. As a bonus, she left me a $25 gift card from the store I w**k at. SIL's idea for getting him some ammo when it is so hard to find right now.

Completed the benchw**k with the duck under and glued foam on top of the plywood, wired the feeders to the three latest tracks. I will order turnouts and more WS Track Bed tomorrow, so it should be here in plenty of time for father's day weekend when I plan on spending several days on the layout, as I have a few vacation days I am taking then.

   Prayers to all in need.

Morning coffee in the diner..

GOOD MONDAY MORNING!!!

Today is Monday, June 3rd, 2013!!!

I will light the prayer candles at 9am...for those who need them...

MAKE IT A GREAT DAY!!

WHere did "blue jeans" come from?:

{note this story is based on the old cloth, as "blue jeans" as we know them were actually patented in 1873 by ..{who else? LEVI STRAUSS}:

Many years ago, a heavy cloth was created in Janua (modernly known as Genoa today) and shortened to the word "jean."  In 1495, King Henry VIII of England bought 262 bolts it because it didn't wear out quickly and was very highly prized.   It remained its natural shade for centuries until one day a batch was dyed blue and turned over to tailors.  For many years, the pants made from this fabric was for men only.  Only After women wearing pants became socially acceptable in the early 20th century, and later in the 50's and 60's, did jeans became a fashion garment for women as well.  They are no longer worn for their durability, since today many blue jeans are promoted for being softer and some even include spandex for "stretchy" blue jeans

Double take:

It's a phrase from movie makers in which the director wants another look at a scene in order to make sure it looks like how he wants it to look. The term caught on in general society to mean anything that deserves to be looked at twice, or looked at more closely

Good Morning!!!

Coffee and a sweet roll please, thanks.

Mostly sunny, with a high near 69.

Vincent- Oh! Laugh  I thought you meant you’d not heard of pointsLaugh. Actually I figured you were joking because as in to cars as you are I figured you had to at least be familiar with them. As for the electronics, what with the crank fired and advancing of computers and all the other monitored things, the traditional distributor is no longer needed. The setup you have probably is the last step before no distributor at all. It’s pretty much just there to send the spark from one coil to eight plugs and I'm gonna guess it's pretty much just a cap and a rotor. A literal shell of it's former self. All the advancing and timing of fire is done by other sensors and the computer tells the coil when to fire not the distributor anymore.

Well, yesterday again was a good day. I got a super lot done in the yard, backyard especially. Now, to the untrained eye, you would not think so much has been done, but really there has. I decided that these bushes and plants that need thinned or cut back because I’ve let them go, will just have to tough it out if it’s the wrong time to do it or I’ll just find a replacement. Simple as that Jack!

I did get the opportunity to go play in the trainroom but for some reason…..just didn’t feel like it. Now  do but yesterday I even thought “gee…I oughta do something in there. I have time!”  Nope. Never did. I do have days like that. It is getting a bit less messy in there as I have been ducking in and out from time to time tidying it up a bit from all the stashing and dashing that’s been going on. Maybe today after the Church boow**k and a run to Springfield for a few groceries and sundries that we didn’t get yesterday due to the fact….we didn’t go. Stayed here and that didn’t bother me at all.

Ah but first….the stack of first of the month bills on my desk.Sigh

(Raises coffee mug) A toast......Here's to the distributor! May it's memory last forever. But hey At least we don't have to reach back and around amongst a rats nest of wires (and hoping the spark plug wire insulation was good) to a place you can only access before the engine was installed to twist juuuust past a point it didn't really want to be, then, get into another goofy position only a monkey can do to tighten that bolt without moving the thing!!!

Ya’ll have a good day, ya hear!!!!

Good morning.

Feeling a little off today. However, don't think it's anything to worry about. Probably just nerves right now. Might get some work done on the Spitfire or Mustang today. Depends on how I feel.

Haven't seen the sun today, but good morning from gray New England anyway.  The tail end of the warm weather is still with us, as it stayed in the 60s all night, but tonight it's supposed to drop to around 50 and we'll be in pleasant weather the rest of the week.  We need this morning's rain, though.

I basically spent the whole weekend inside, except for grilling some burgers on Saturday.  It was just too hot to spend any time outside, so I put off any shopping until today.  Instead, I stayed in the trainroom with the AC.  The carfloat scene is almost complete, with just a few details to go, and a bit of wiring for structures and the floodlight tower.

"Points" and "Spitfire" are closely linked for me.  My first car was a 1969 Triumph Spitfire, and I knew everything about its inner workings   In particular, anything about the Lucas electrical system demanded that I carry spare parts and tools at all times.  Why to the British drink warm beer?  Because Lucas makes refrigerators.

Morning All,

We had some excitement here last night. As the family was getting ready to leave last night Quintin our youngest grandson decided he was going to jump off the bed and pile drive his brother. Unfortunately he missed, landing on the floor on his elbow. The x-rays show a hair line Fracture of the left humorous (spelling?). It was wrapped and he has to go back Wednesday to get a cast on it for 4-6 weeks. Since I am the only one off work today he stayed over night with us. We have repeatedly told him to quit jumping on his bed so hopefully he learned his lesson.

Hope everybody has a good day and prayers for those in need.

Curt, that story brings back memories.  One night, after we thought she was happily in dreamland, our Annie was actually jumping on the bed.  She fell off and hit her forehead on the corner of her dresser, opening up a very messy 1/2-inch wound.  Somehow, she managed to cover the injury with her hand and run to the bathroom, not spilling a drop of blood on her brand new blue carpet.  We put gauze on it and headed for the emergency room, where we sat for some time before it was her turn.

The Novacaine injection was painful, and she cried a bit, but our three-year-old rallied bravely and was actually conversing pleasantly with the doctor by the time the job was done.  Not so her Mom, though, who passed out from all the blood and gore, and was lying in the next OR with her feet up until I was able to pack them both in the car for the ride home.

 Morning Folks

 Flo, Diet Dew Pleases.

Well my weekend is over and back to the salt mine.

Just when I think I am going to get a head $ wise, something has to act up!  We are having problems with the Central Air again! Bang Head This time the blower motor in the house turns on and off the way it should, but the outside unit will not shut down. There goes my train funds again for the B&O collection!

Curt Glad that Quintin did not hurt any worse than he did.

Running the trains a little then off to work.

Mornin' everyone!

Zoe, I'll have a bowl of Maple Walnut Crunch Organic cereal with some fresh blueberries and a cup of dark roast coffee in my R&GV RR mug please and thank you.

We had a small but fun crowd at yesterdays first Scouting Day at the Museums.  Had 38 Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts, and Girl Scouts and more adults and other visitors during the day.  Not a great turnout, but enough to have them consider making this an annual event.  I did talk to a Scoutmaster who had brought his son about having his troop com out to the museum, do a service project, and also do the RR Merit Badge at the same time.

Been catching up on yesterday's posts and have to get to cleaning house today.  Have a Scout and his Mom coming here this evening to do the Music MB with me.  Don't want to completely gross them out with the state of the house at the moment.... Whistling

Good morning. It's 76° with 79% humidity. The high will be 88°

I may go into town today to get some grocery shopping done. Other than that there's nothing specific planned. The F3B should be here before noon. I think I'm having modem problems again. Over the weekend I was losing contact with the internet. I shut the computer down a couple of times to see if the problem was the onboard LAN but that didn't reestablish contact. Only doing a shutdown that included the modem restored contact. If it keeps cutting up I'll turn the modem in for a new one.

Well naturally that package that went all over the country 3 times around DIDN'T come with all it's parts!

I figured as much! It was missing 3 cap nuts, but I substituted  3 hex nuts i had instead. WHY? because naturally the "parts website" for the manufacturer is a DUD site, Not in operation. SO chances of getting them are NIL. GRR>>I knew it would come incomplete. JUST CAUSE>

Went to the CU, the grocery store and the pharmacy.

OH< OH...you know that HUGE Powerball Lottery??? Well, WE WON!

{only $4 though hee hee} {darn it!}

Well MOH is essentially off work this week since can't be on feet and moving in Bakery..PT and Dr. wants MOH to be stationary and on cane. Since MOH was scheduled for Bakery cna't do it. HOPEFULLY will pick up some hours Cashiering. WE need more than a 3 hour paycheck.

SO now on to other things..like laundry etc.

Good afternoon. .... Today is an RBF day, and I'll have one please.

Curt ..... I hope your grandson' broken arm heels soon.

Mr. B ...... We had a similar experience with our daughter many years ago. We were at Disney World and she fell head first into a steel railing. It sure was bloody. The Disney World staff handled first aid promptly and very professionally. Next thing, we were riding in the Disney police car to ER. She was stitched up. I went in the mens room and washed my bloody shirt in the sink. We had another police car ride to the bus parking just in time to board the chartered bus back to  Sarasota where we were vacationing. .... Kids certainly have their surprises for us. ... Now, this daughter and her husband live in Grand Rapids and their children are older than she was on that trip.

My layout construction has been interrupted. I use a brad nail gun for part of the work, and my brad nailer stopped working. Air leaks so much, it can't drive in the brads.  I have a replacemnt on order.

Also, my E7 decoder is still in progress. Some DCC installs are more challenging than others.

Garry, when I read "nail gun" my first thought was that it was your daughter's turn to take you to the ER.  Glad to hear it was something that money could make like new.

Evening All,

Had chicken for supper but didn't grill it since it has been raining on and off all day. The guy came out and fixed my windshield today.

I watched Quintin today and without my knowledge he spilled a fruit drink on the couch then hid it with cushions. Anyone want to guess what MOH thought about that, and who's fault it was?Sigh.

Tomorrow I watch him all day again and have to take him to his school award ceremony. I wonder what I will get in trouble about tomorrow?

Here are a couple of photos from the RR museum in Strasburg

Nice photos there Curt.

*

Got the new metal F3B shell today and first notched the sides to fit on a clip-on frame as getting it to be secured with a screw isn't feasible. There's this little thing called a motor that sits right where the screw would have to go through. Motors don't like to work with a big screw stuck in them. From there it was on to the paint shop where the 'City of San Fransisco' paint job disappeared and it came out in the black and gray of the L&A. Now it's indistinguishable from the other F3B's for the most part. One of them is a little shinier.

Well after a bit of work the F unit trio is now the F unit quad. There's four of those heavy Frankenstein monsters roaming the layout now. An F7A and three F3B's. One of my friends has a high trestle. I wonder if he'll let them cross it? The van is still pulling it's 'I don't wanna start' routine. I had to fight it twice today. I paid my phone bill today, something I always do once a year. A whopping $32.29 for the year. Gee, that might break the bank! Right now I have the F unit tr-er quad running laps around the layout.

Good evening ...

Forgot to mention today was the 12th birthday of our oldest grandchild. I talked with her on the phone. She was at home in Cincinnati.

Also, neglected to say my 93 year old Mom in AL tells me she played the piano for church hymns yesterday. She's doing quite well these days.

Tom ... Interesting MofW train.

Curt ... I like the museum photos.

Jake ... Conrats to the Grad!

Jeff .... nice work on the F3B.

Cheers.

Evenin' folks,

Janie, just a deacf and a couple TUMS for me please...  Somethin' I et done disagreed with me.  Feel a bit better after sittin' on the throne for a while, but wish I knew what disagreed with me so I can avoid it tomorrow. Sigh

Jeffrey, so when do we get a shot of all 4 of those "F" units together?

Curt of course it's your fault.  You don't expect the poor little kid would be to blame now do you? Whistling

Tom, you have impeccable tastes, my friend!

Jake, enjoy tomorrow!  And, congratulations!  It is a wonderful milestone and I wish you much success in your future endeavors.

A Scout from my church stopped by tonight (along with Mom and Dad) to complete the Music Merit Badge.  He had everything ready to be checked off for it.  He even brought video to show me the performance part of it.  He was accompanying one of the adults from church on the piano.  Very bright and a great kid!  His grandfather is a good friend of mine (he is a fairly well known sculptor in the area).  The Scout is also an accomplished model railroader and is doing some scratchbuilding in "n" scale.  He has just turned 13, BTW!

I did some house cleaning today, ran a few errands, and later tonight started to bring around wheelbarrows full of topsoil for the second raised bed garden.  Also planted some carrots, lettuce, and onion sets in the extra space in the first garden.

Just about time to call it a day I think.  Prayers for all in need!
