Afternoon guys

Well my car did it again. Started leaking antifreeze in the same spot as before. So the stop-leak only worked for a few days... Maybe it needs a 2nd application, as it doesn't seem to be as bad as before (it was pouring, now it's just dripping). I'm supposed to be mowing the lawn, but we have no gas for the mower. My father went to get some, and more anti-freeze and stop-leak... I hope that the stop leak last till august or so. That'd be about when I'd get my stroker motor completed (if I'm lucky, my father will let me use his Edelbrock heads and a Holley Intake for it, should put it around 450 hp with a mild cam).

David, Happy birthday

Todd, I didn't mean it like that... For some strange reason, my Mustang's electronics for the distributor isn't on the distributor. It's behind where the air filter box would go. I was curious how that worked, but the plug was the same as the cars that had them on the distributor (i.e. a '93 mustang GT). Turns out the module it sends remote signals to the distributor...

Vincent

Wants: 1. high-quality, sound equipped, SD40-2s, C636s, C30-7s, and F-units in BN. As for ones that don't cost an arm and a leg, that's out of the question....

2. An end to the limited-production and other crap that makes models harder to get and more expensive.

happy birthday David, a late one anywho!

went for a walk took the camera, and there were no trains on the seattle sub..... it's ok I walked in the room though and saw #750. gave me an idea, make some SP&S express reefers as well as SP&S labeled WFE cars. the apples gotta go somewhere, a fruit warehouse would make a great industry to switch. The cars would be attached to a passenger train then would get cut at a drop off track.

my siblings got me a late present to yesterday, an MP coal mine building. I'm debating on changing it to a sawdust plant because the SP&S was a lumber hauler.

...So a point-fired car is a car that doesn't have an electronic module for the distributor?

Oh my now I do feel old.....where's my rocking chair? Just put it out there in the pasture under a tree.Laugh

I hear you! That electronic stuff came along when I was thirteen or fourteen. The first year or two it was new cars with regular distributors equipped with conversion kits. The next year they were full electronic. That lovely diagnostic computer everyone depends on now made it's debut for the common car around the mid nineties. Some high-end luxury cars had them perhaps a decade earlier. I still have to laugh when I think of the guy at the auto parts store trying to find a diagnostic port on my van. I kept telling him it had no such thing. It doesn't even have a computer. Just a firing module that's not used anymore.

*

Good afternoon. It's 75° with 87% humidity. The high will be 88°.

Well the storms last night and early this morning were pretty nasty to say the least. One good thing is it cut today's rain chance almost in half. This morning the cable to my modem broke. The end just ripped right off it. So a trip to town to get another cable was in order. When I went to start the van for the return trip it pulled it's 'I don't wanna' routine. Spraying starting fluid into the carburetor didn't accomplish anything. I pulled off the PCV hose and squirted some starter fluid into it so it flowed right into the base of the carburetor. That helped a bit so I gave it some more and it fired up. I had a couple other stops to make but I left it running at those stops and didn't cut it off until I got home. So, the problem remains. But at least I did get the cable, a six pack of paper towels, a four-pack of fly paper ribbons and some other items.

Sometime today I may get around to running a train or two.

Happy Birthday, David, and good morning to one and all.  Ooops, afternoon.  The heat drains me, and I didn't wake up until 10 this morning.  It's the last day of the heat wave, and tomorrow and the rest of the week should be about 20 degrees cooler.

AC in the train room.  It looks like one pour of the Envirotex will do the job.  I tinted it pretty heavily, a mixture of black and green, and that gave me the look I wanted.  I may try some ripples with Modge Podge, but I notice the surface is still a trifle sticky so that will have to wait.  Still some details to work out on the whole carfloat scene, but it's done enough that I've started tackling the Empire Leather Tanning Company project.  I've opened the box and read and re-read the instructions.  I made card stock mockups of each building, and I'm now working with orientation and track placement.  To add to the complexity, some of the scene must be on a lift-off section.

My Boston Bruins won last night!  As a goalie myself, I know the feeling when the goalposts play a great game, and they did that at both ends, deflecting pucks left and right.

It takes an iron man to play with a toy iron horse.

  Morning All,

Happy B-DayGiftCake David, enjoy .

Currently it is 66 with an expected high of 92 under sunny skies.

Got the stock all prepped , now for mixing the glass compound and putting it in the stock and then the barreled action, with lots of release agent on it.

Layout front, I opted for the duckunder. The lowest point of the benchw**k there is 48" so it is not too bad. I think I may ger one of those office chair plastic mats to fit that area and use an old office chair so it is a roll under. May be easier  to get in and out of the layout.

Started the spaghetti sauce yesterday, will let it simmer for another hour or two before daughter and SIL come over.

   Prayers to all in need.

Good Morning!!!

Coffee and the Sunday Breakfast Buffet please, or the SBB if you’re in a hurry.Thanks.

Mostly cloudy, with a high near 68. No rain!!!!!Big Smile Only in the 70’s all week thoHmm. At this rate it’ll still be 80 in December.

Ulrich- I feel for you, I really do but I just don’t know what to say. I know what I would do, and did, but it does nothing for large gatherings on the Holidays. And it wasn’t my Mother either so…..that’s rough. Take your comfort in Petra and Christian. As for your career, tough it out. This is a small bump and test for you. If you plan on bringing a small party to the front and being something to bring about change, you are in for a tougher fight than your Brother can give you over a car. Besides, he’s got to prove it is a forgery (harder than on TV) and there of course are the witnesses at the place where they were that over heard things and can say at the time it was done he was fully capable of making those decisions.

Ashamed I hate family strife. It gets easier to deal with, but you still don’t feel any better about itAshamed.

CDN Dennis- Our yard has become so bumpy it’s like walking across ballast. Problem is it is also grass..Confused um….clumps… I guess. Looks ok unless you're right in it and looking down. Anyway it’s got to the point if you run a push mower the thing will bouncy around like crazy and you think the wheels will surely break off. A bit of an exaggeration, but not much. It should have been rolled several years ago but with family issues I never got too it, and like most all other yardw**k things around here, got out of hand. So, I decided that I would roll the yard after every rain this year until it smooths out. Needless to say I’m still rolling baby!Laugh

Charlie- Had a friend a few years ago had somewhat the same issue as Jeff. He took his truck to the dealer for what turned out to be a bad CV joint. Warranty? Yes ah wait….no. Turns out they determined the truck had been driven “off road”……it being 4 wheel drive didn’t matter either. Nope. Abuse. Not supposed to drive off road.

 â™«like a rock…like a rock♫Whistling

David-   Happy B-Day

Anybody else having trouble with the little party hat dude?

Well yesterday was extreeeemely good day for me. No, didn’t hit the lotto and no, not getting a Chinese housekeeper (chuckle). I got the lawn mowed, trimmed and rolledCool. Which is not w**king as I’d hopedThumbs Down, but is getting betterYes. I need to over seed. Anyway, I got the dishwasher finished. Another Yeah so Brenda can now officially start complaining about something not w**king right because she AB-so-LUTELY re-FUSE-zuhz... to read how to operate something. Nope. Will not. Won't. Haven't offerd to pay her yet, but knowing her, I doubt that would matter. She'll destROOY something before reading how to use it. Yes I show her how, but if she doesn't remember something or decides she'd rather be doing something else and's not paying attention because she "know's how to use a dishewasher"...Dead. Anywhoo, ran it through it’s maiden cycle with it being empty to check for leaks and all is well…so farHuh?. It’s a quiet thing as far as the motor and all is concerned but with it’s fancy circus ride looking spray arms to deliver the best clean in the business, it is twice as loud spraying water on the inside as the almost 20 year old Maytag which wasn"t that loud to begin with. Could be that it was empty too. Nothing to stop the water from hitting the inside of the tub so much. We’ll see.

Today is grocery day, may not eat out as she wants to make beef and noodles. I have no problem with that!Dinner And I need to cut out the dead on the Gooseberry bush and hit the weeds in the rock in the back of the house with Roundup. Then…HmmConfusedHuh?Sigh.can’t remember what I was gonna do. Shoot. I knew what it was until I started the sentence. Oh well it’ll come back to me later.

Ya’ll have a good day, ya hear!!!!

Morning All,

Today I am going to drive up to Jon's (Train store) to see his new shop (moved location). Sunday is the only day he is open when I am off work. Later the family is coming over for some more BBQ. It looks like rain at least thru Thursday according to the NWS. I forgot to mention yesterday that FL has moved into it's other season that lasts 6 months. You guessed it, it is Hurricane Season againLightningSigh.

Barry- Glad the Doc visit went well.

David- happy birthday.Happy B-Day

Morning Coffee in the diner with friends...

GOOD SUNDAY MORNING!!!

Today is Sunday June 2nd, 2013!!!!

I will light the prayer candles at 10 AM for those in need...

MAKE it a GREAT day!!!

DOUBLE CROSS:

Illiteracy was common in the old days and so when a person was asked to sign his name to a document, he would put an "X" or a cross and it was perfectly legal. Now, many times this was done under pressure and the party making the "X" had no intention of observing the terms of the contract.  Oral lore stated that if a cross was doubled as in one was written over the other one, then the second one voided out the first cross.  The contract was then null.  So a double-cross was often referred to someone who promised in word or writing, but changed their minds, or never even intended to obey the rules they agreed to.

{I'm} POOPED {out}:

The term goes back to sailors, where it was brought it to land when picked up by landlubbers. The stern of a boat is called the "poop".  During strong winds and storms, the waves smashing against it repeatedly. Any ship's stern that showed damage from all of this was called "pooped" and lucky to still be floating after days of battering waves.  So when the sailors got ashore, in their descriptive way they would often say that they felt as tired and battered and as "pooped" as their ship.  People took to this phrase and soon used it to describe themselves even when on land as being totally pooped out when they were really tired, fatigued and exhausted from anything.

HOODLUM:

There are two versions of where this word began in American culture. (1) One of the most notorious criminals of the Barbary Coast was Muldoon, who had so much muscle he was hard to arrest.  The San Franciso newspaper led a campaign to help clean up the town.  But rather than printing his name they put it in backwards = Noodlum.  A bit obvious, they thought, so they changed the N to H = Hoodlum.  So every time this criminal's activities were written up, it was as Hoodlum.  Soon the name was synonymous with crime and illegal activities.  (2) Another theory is it is a derivative of the German word 'huddellump' which means "miserable fellow, wretch, and scoundrel".

David!

Good Morning Folks,

No nasty email from my dear brother in my mailbox this morning! Is this a good sign? I am afraid not. My brother has been a genuine creep all his life and he takes a pleasure to make other folks´ life as miserable as his own.

In those twenty years my parents had been living in their home, he visited them only 3 or 4 times, just for a couple of hours each time. He never took care of them when they needed help. When my Dad suffered from a stroke,  I spent more than a month with my Mom to help and support her. Two years ago, I spent 3 months taking care of my Dad while Mom was in the hospital. This year, I spent 3 months with my Mom, taking her to see Dad every day, do the shopping, laundry, cooking, cleaning the house, seeing to it that she takes her medication, doing all the paper work, including my Dad´s tax return. My Mom shouted at me, accused me of stealing, called the police, even hit me during that time. When my car failed, my Dad told me to buy a new one, so I just followed his wish. There is nothing I have to justify.

Fortunately, my Mom´s money will take care of all her needs. Her medical insurance will pick up most, if not all, of the bills for her care. She will move back into her house in a few days. I know this will end up in a disaster, as she won´t accept anybody helping her. She will not eat properly and she won´t take her medication - I have been through that a number of times with her. But there is nothing I can do about it. Even though she has ill-treated me in the past month´s, she is still my Mom and I want her to be taken care of in the right way.

I am most unhappy about what is ahead of us.

Have a good Sunday!

Hi peoples. I have come to that point in my life where I am finally out of my teen years. Today is my birthday and I am 20 years old.

Jake: It is good to hear that you got through high school. Good luck with college if you are going. I took mine at home with no holidays or breaks. Just school 365 days a year and I am almost finished. Business/accounting with a lot of history, English and math. I really did not want to but my dad insisted. He never got past jr. high because he was helping to keep a roof over his family's heads. Please, please go to college. It will be the best thing you could ever do.

Jeff: What are you trying to do with all those metal F units? The ones you have pull a train that my Bmann gp9's could not hope to pull in their wildest dreams. I can stand outside your trailer and hear those heavy brutes rumbling around your layout. Those are not junkers. They are majestic beasts. Kings of the rails. If you ever get rid of them throw them my way.

Galaxy: It is good to hear that you and your other half are doing better.

Ulrich: Sorry to say it but your brother sounds like a self serving creep. I come across people like him every day. He wants your moms money back because it will be that much less of 'his' money he has to spend to feed, cloth and provide shelter for her. In the end he will be demanding that YOU do all of that so he does not have to spend his money after hers runs out.

Prayers and good wishes for all that need them. AngelAngel

Still up checking on some things. I just looked at the USPS tracking info. My F3B is in Shreveport as of 9pm. I'll have it Monday. Then I'll be able to adapt the shell and have it on a power chassis in a matter of hours.

I've been thinking about what I'll do tomorrow. Maybe work a bit on the layout and maybe at some point I'll get around to running a train or two.

Looks like it'll be a bit wet outside. If the weather permits I'll go out in the yard with my 'Grip 'n Grab' and pick up some trash that got blown around by some recent high winds. Or I may stay in and watch some movies. I'll know for sure when I get to that point.

Evenin'Folks!

Janie, just a cup of decaf please.  Just want to sit here for a while and unwind...

Got a lot done out at camp today.  The new mixer will be just the thing, but will need to have me give some training to several staff members and the ranger on how to use it.  The output is very hot and even though the outside amp has built in compression to avoid clipping. I don't want some hot shot seeing how far it can go before blowing the amp or the new speakers....  The ranger said they put on a CD last week and drove around camp to see how far the sound carried with only two speakers hooked up.  His word for it was "Amazing"!  Here is the mixer:

I still have to wire up a new microphone line from the dining hall (so they can have two mics) and do sound checks on each of the mics.  Was able to check the levels on the CD input...

Prayers for all in need.

Chris, I just browsed through a few pages of your Flicker account...  WOW!  Shows what a good camera with good glass can do in the hands of a person who knows how to use it!!!  Nice work!  Very nice work!

On Friday I got the new tire installed and it was no charge!!! That warranty the 'gave' me when I bought the car covered the full cost. Feels good when that happens.

Feels good when the warranty is actually worth more than the paper it's written on. I've seen some that wouldn't cover something unless certain number of highly improbable things had happened. I had a 4X4 vehicle from a very well-known US automaker that never learned how to do anything other than destroy it's transfer case no matter how precisely the operating instructions were followed. Care to guess what part of the drive train WASN'T covered in the warranty?

Good Evening,

Well the rain has finally stopped but one could hardly call it warm.  At noon is was 50F and peaked at 58 with a strong north wind. Risk of frost tonight. Good thing we haven't planted any of the flowers yet but hope to get started tomorrow. Wife had the heat on this morning as it was chilly in the house. Ah the joy of living in Winterpeg.

Ulrich, sorry to hear of your family problems. Do you know who is the executor of the will? I was afraid I would have trouble with my sister when our mother passed away a few years ago but as I was executor there really wasn't anything she could do. In the end she was fine which did surprise me.

On Friday I got the new tire installed and it was no charge!!! That warranty the 'gave' me when I bought the car covered the full cost. Feels good when that happens.

Today we went out for lunch at a spot we have been going to for over 20 years. It is a small place that serves really good food. We both had the beef and portobello mushrooms. It is served with a pepper sabayon on greens with garlic toast. Really good!! Then it was off to the mall, garden centre, grocery store, etc. Now it is time for not much.

I did run a train for about 5 minutes this morning and may actually do that again tomorrow hopefully for more than 5 minutes. I did finish my rolling stock weathering. I just put on a little AIM rust here and there as I really don't like it heavily weathered. Back in the '50s the cars might have been faded but really weren't very rusty at least not on the CNR. I wonder at the heavy rust you see now and if the leaded paint used in the past stopped the rust from forming so easily or was maintenance that much better.

Chris, how is Rerun?  Still chomping down those cheeseburgers? I was wondering if your wife has bought one of the new Beetles. See a few of them around and they seem quite nice.

Well time for TV.

Looks like a 50% chance of rain tonight and tomorrow. A pretty fair chance of getting wet. So far today the van has started every time I needed it since I changed the coil. Hopefully I nipped the problem in the bud.

Time for me to call it a night. See y'all tomorrow.

Jeff, So a point-fired car is a car that doesn't have an electronic module for the distributor? My 94 mustang has one, and until the other day I had the coil from an '84 LTD LX (I thought mine was bad, but the coild from my car works on said LTD). I changed it to an Accel and have an Accel iginition system to wire-in.

Mine has a standard Chrysler coil that'll work on many models right up until the time distributor-less ignition came along. Electronic or not.

Evening guys

Home computer has been acting up all day. It's working now...

Finger is a lot less tender, but it's kinda developing a crust. It cracks if I fully enclose the finger, and it bleeds a little in some spots. I guess it's the beginning of a thick layer of scar tissue... I won't post the pic of it cause this is a dinner and it's kinda gross.

Dennis, yup. I haven't seen you here, but have seen you on the DD forums

Chris, Neat pic with the CNW SD-something (SD40-2 with a light out?) and the LMX 8-39B. Nice pics too, but I'm not the photographer in my family. My brother is and he does some of the pictures for Ohio State's sports programs.

Wants: 1. high-quality, sound equipped, SD40-2s, C636s, C30-7s, and F-units in BN. As for ones that don't cost an arm and a leg, that's out of the question....

2. An end to the limited-production and other crap that makes models harder to get and more expensive.

Thanks DENNIS! Yeah, I remember film very well. I started fiddling with cameras in the late 80s, got serious about it in the early 90s as a freelance photojournalist, w**ked for a weekly from '94-'97 then went into EMS and a variety of other things before falling back into it (the newspaper world) almost five years ago. I never shot anything on the scenes where I was with Fire or EMS...I was too busy doing the fire/EMS stuff. THAT's part of why I feel so honored by this: I was a firefighter, EMT and Paramedic, and some of my stuff is going to be used to help honor the fire service I so proudly was a part of. It's also special as I almost ended up on the LODD wall, and if I had, I'd be among the fallen being recognized.

'm not sure what pics he wants to use, but he said it was for a "Faces of the Fire Service" compilation. Here's a link to my page, have a look sometime. You'll see how I make part of my paycheck.

Chris, beautiful work Thumbs Up Back in my days with the fire service, I took a ton of On Scene Pictures of both fire and EMS personnel doing what they do. I still have them around somewhere but to post them, I'd have to digitize them because they were all shot on slide film. Remember that stuff, film that is...Laugh

Cheers

Not bad in a breaker point system. So I plugged it into the distributor cap and cranked the engine and it fired up. Maybe that was the whole problem all along. Maybe it was just part of it. Time will tell.

JEFFREY  Isn't it great when some of the "stuff" a person hangs on to forever actually turns out to be useful at some point. We moved from a big house that we lived in for just about 30 years to a house about 1/3 of the size with no garage. I didn't have anyplace to put "my stuff" when we moved so 90 percent of it got chucked out. Crying Now 4 years later and I'm still needing some of the long gone stuff.

Sometimes life sucks
