I've got these old MOW cars.  I think they were made by True Line back in the 1960s.  I remember saving up for these on my teenage allowance to get to the $30 the set cost.

I think I've got metal wheels on all of them now, and of course Kadees.

Afternoon folks!

Chloe, just a tall glass of lemonade for me at the moment.

Just thought I would stop in to see what is going on...  Nice cool and sunny day here in the Finger Lakes.  Currently 62°F with a high of 67°F sometime this afternoon they say.  I have been busy carting topsoil around to the second raised bed garden today, and doing a few other odds and ends.

I best get back to w@rk I think...

Later!

It was a similar type view of a scrap train down here that gave me the idea of having a tracked CAT riding on a gondola full of scrap.

We got to railfan for a couple of hours on Saturday. Intermodals and some nice mixed freights for the most part. But at one point, I looked up the tracks and thought "What in the heck is that coming?" Turned out to be an interesting MOW High-Railer in a configuration that I haven't seen before. The High-Railer was pulling 4 gondolas, the second of which had a tracked "CAT" sitting on top.

I thought it looked pretty interesting, and it got me to wondering if anyone has put together and runs an MOW train on their layout on a regular basis.

Morning Gang,

TOM,  Love the pictures and just wanted you and others to know that those High Railers are built here in our  city at Brandt Industries in Regina.  They are very popular for MOW and Short line railroads and are shipped all over the world.  To answer your question,  YES, I do run a MOW train quite often.  It is made up of a weed spraying tanker which is a masonite pad cleaning car, a couple of difco side dumps three ballast hoppers,a heavyweight diner/tool car and a crane and tender, pulled by a high nose GP7/9.

Chloe, can I still get breakfast ?  If so, I would like a double Denver and a cup of decaf when you get a minute,  Thanks.

We got back from our three week trip on Saturday evening. We got as far south as Horn Lake, Mississippi and that was for the Memphis Bar-B Que, which was wonderful, I could eat there every night.

Spent a week in Branson and felt the edges of that tornado that got OK. City the first time.  We had lots of rain, wind, hail, lightning and thunder but no twist to it.

Enjoyed the Convocation of our youngest Son from MSU where he got his Masters in Psychology. He is now very busy sending out resumes and taking a training course this week in Birmingham, Alabama.

The sad part of our trip was that we didn't get very close to seeing Cape Jim or Heartland Garry.  We did go through Marlon's City  (Clinton, Mo.) but it was raining so hard we decided just to keep on moving.  Sure hope there will be a next time.

Picked up some mrr goodies along the way in Hollister, Mo. and Kansas City and a few flea market purchases of some vehicles.  We took my Wife's HHR this time and it ran like a top. Highest fuel price we paid was $4.02 in Iowa, but in total it would average out around $3.85.. You folks are getting closer to our prices up here every time I go south.

So now it is back to yard w--k and of course that other w--k that I have retired from four times now. I swear I'm going to quit for good soon.

Sorry to hear of some of the troubles some Diners are having and my thoughts and prayers are with you.  And also with all the folks who were targeted by those storms.

 Morning All,

Currently it is 58 with an expected high of 91 under sunny skies.

Three of the four vehicles I own have manual locks and windows, my little Isuzu PU, 1992, has a 5 speed manual trnsmission and no a/c, and it has 236,899 miles on it. I will probably take that into w**k today, as I have a closing shift and a meeting afterward, so it will be around 10PM when I get back in it tonight and will not be too hot.

Ordered some Atlas flex track from Caboose Hobbies yesterday. I also ordered 5 Walthers turnouts and a box of WS Track Bed from Walthers. I need to get some more red and green leds, some diodes and resistors for same, for turnout control switches. Anyone have a good on-line source?

   Prayers to all in need.

LOCKED CAR DOORS:

HMM... I tell EVERYONE who is  apassenger and rides with me NOT TO PUSH ANY LOCK BUTTONS. I, as the driver, will take care of that! WHY? you ask? because when power locks CAME on my first power window./door  lock vehicle {1983}  EVERYBODY getting in wanted to PLAY with the dad blamed buttons! Up and down go windows, and down and up go windows, AND IF i didn't have my keys, we would get locked out. SO THE DRIVER CONTROLS THE DOOR LOCK BUTTON.

IT took until MOH once locked us OUT of the vehicle for MOH to LEARN NOT TO PUSH The dad blamed  button when as a passenger!!!!

My last few cars had autolocking doors and all power windows. As soon as the gear selector hit 'D' or the vehicle started moving every door locked. My current vehicle is a dinosaur with all manually operated locks and windows.

Harrumph!

well we go look at a 2003 T&C and see what ewe think, I think we can swing it IF we sell MOH's 1998 vehicle soon after. Dunno if good thing or bad, as it is 10 yrs old and I KNOW what all we did to the 98 at 10 years old. SO...BUT MOH needs  a better vehicle to do the new job takign special people to and form DRs. appts. and such. so we will go see it if it hasn't been sold by the time MOH is done with Physical Therapy.

Well, got laundry going best get to it,

Good morning. It's 73° with 82% humidity. The high will be 92°.

Today it looks like I'll be working on cleaning up the layout. It needs it. Tomorrow will be a wasted day as I have an appointment to get my eyes examined. Oh joy.

Mr B- I have a phobia about locking a door. I cannot do it unless I have the key in my hand looking at it before locking, or I should say closing a locked door. Building or car doesn't matter. Old Chrysler I had would not lock the drivers door with the auto lock button if the door ws open so you had no choice but to lock with the key. My truck will do the same thing (power lock button just doesn't work) if the key is in the ignition and door is open. If not, like your wife's you can lock away. I rarely use the remote to lock. Just not used to it. I also can't turn the pump on at the gas station unless I am looking at the method of payment I choose in my hand. Not just knowing the card is in my wallet or the cash is in my pocket, I have to actually see it first.

When LION was Little Cub, we drove dad to the airport. Actually dad drove and we rode in the back seat. Dad took the care key out before locking the car. And then flew off to Washington DC with mom's car key.

For the 50 years since then, both mom and dad had spare car keys tucked away in their wallets.

Mom did have a spare car key (and a spare house key for that matter) at home, for all of the good that would do us. The wife of one of dad's co-workers drove us home, and a neighbor drove us back to the air port to fetch the car.

Oh yeah, of course, the house was locked. my younger brother was shoved through an open window so that he could open the door for the rest of us.

Good Morning!!!

Coffee and a waffle with maple syrup please, thanks.

Mostly sunny, with a high near 75.

Sounds like we’ve all had the daughter that bounced off the bed and sent us to the hospital. Ours was at the hotel when we went to the St Louis zoo. Bounced right off into the crack between the bed and that immovable nightstandSurprise. Staples in the noggin for her and I could hear her wailing in the waiting room.

Garry- Nice to hear your Mom is doing well.

Well today is my full day of w**k (chuckle). In between I guess I need to do some house claning and some laundry, and I need to load my burn pile in the truck and haul it down to the village burn pile because the Spring burning time enacted at the urging of this muck of new people over the last several years who moved to town for small town life and immediately started complaining about things that irritate them, banded together and got an ordinance banning burning passed, has expired……transplantsGrumpy. Their mere presence irritates me. I wonder if I can get an ordinance passed banning them. Health issue you know.

Ya’ll have a good day, ya hear!!!!

Good morning from Massachusetts, and it is a good morning.  Temperatures got down into the 50s last night, so it was easy to sleep comfortably even with the big fan off.  No more brutal heat in the 10-day forecast, which is about 7 days longer than they can really predict, andyway.

Jake, congratulations.  It may not seem like much, but a lot of young men and women never get that far.  A free high-school education is probably the greatest gift that society gives us here.  You've taken advantage of it, and now you're on to bigger things.  Well done, and we're all proud of you.

We had a small amount of excitement yesterday.  I got a cell phone call while pulling on to the Interstate on my way home.  Being sensible, I chose to ignore it until I got out of rush-hour traffic and parked at the hardware store to buy some ant stuff.  First, I had to listen to the "call me" voice mail from SWMBO.  She'd lost her car keys at the mall.  Not just any mall, now, but the Burlington Mall, where they filmed the definitive 2009 cinematic masterpiece, "Paul Blart, Mall Cop."

Failing to get me, she called her friend, who went to our house and brought over a spare set of keys.  I listened to the story of how she'd checked everywhere, and retraced her steps, and talked to the people at the shops she'd been to.  She'd already left her number with Security, so there was nothing for me to do but go out to her car, rummage through the pile of jackets and sweaters in the back seat and give her back the keys when I found them.

So, here's my tip, something I learned in Drivers' Ed 50 years ago:  Always use your keys to lock your car.  Don't use the buttons on the door.  That way, you can't lock the keys in the car.  With remote locks on most cars these days, it's easier anyway.

It takes an iron man to play with a toy iron horse.

GYP JOINT:

This term is associated with any place that will cheat you in some way (usually out of money). The phrase goes back to when Gypsies arrived in England around the 16th century. When someone was swindled by one of them, the phrase "I was gypted" was used.  They called them Gypsies because they thought they came from Egypt {shorted to Gypt-sie see?}  Some were naturally honest, hard-working people, but any business that they owned was called a gyp joint.

Later on, in some areas, the referenced place came to be a "clip joint" instead, because one lost their money to people who were not Gypsies

gyp joint

noun Informal.
1.
any business establishment that charges excessively for poor-quality service or goods.
2.
a gambling house in which the games are dishonestly run.

Origin: 1930–35

Hanky Panky:

Refers to anyone fooling around, either with some underhanded business deal or intimately, etc. The phrase originates from magicians who would wave hankies around to misdirect the attention of the audience from what was really going on while they did their tricks. Just like magicians would rhyme words like "hocus pocus", "abracadabra", the "panky" got added to "Hanky" just make a rhyme

Evenin' folks,

Janie, just a deacf and a couple TUMS for me please...  Somethin' I et done disagreed with me.  Feel a bit better after sittin' on the throne for a while, but wish I knew what disagreed with me so I can avoid it tomorrow. Sigh

Jeffrey, so when do we get a shot of all 4 of those "F" units together?

Curt of course it's your fault.  You don't expect the poor little kid would be to blame now do you? Whistling

Tom, you have impeccable tastes, my friend!

Jake, enjoy tomorrow!  And, congratulations!  It is a wonderful milestone and I wish you much success in your future endeavors.

A Scout from my church stopped by tonight (along with Mom and Dad) to complete the Music Merit Badge.  He had everything ready to be checked off for it.  He even brought video to show me the performance part of it.  He was accompanying one of the adults from church on the piano.  Very bright and a great kid!  His grandfather is a good friend of mine (he is a fairly well known sculptor in the area).  The Scout is also an accomplished model railroader and is doing some scratchbuilding in "n" scale.  He has just turned 13, BTW!

I did some house cleaning today, ran a few errands, and later tonight started to bring around wheelbarrows full of topsoil for the second raised bed garden.  Also planted some carrots, lettuce, and onion sets in the extra space in the first garden.

Just about time to call it a day I think.  Prayers for all in need!

Good evening ...

Forgot to mention today was the 12th birthday of our oldest grandchild. I talked with her on the phone. She was at home in Cincinnati.

Also, neglected to say my 93 year old Mom in AL tells me she played the piano for church hymns yesterday. She's doing quite well these days.

Tom ... Interesting MofW train.

Curt ... I like the museum photos.

Jake ... Conrats to the Grad!

Jeff .... nice work on the F3B.

Cheers.

Well after a bit of work the F unit trio is now the F unit quad. There's four of those heavy Frankenstein monsters roaming the layout now. An F7A and three F3B's. One of my friends has a high trestle. I wonder if he'll let them cross it? The van is still pulling it's 'I don't wanna start' routine. I had to fight it twice today. I paid my phone bill today, something I always do once a year. A whopping $32.29 for the year. Gee, that might break the bank! Right now I have the F unit tr-er quad running laps around the layout.

Nice photos there Curt.

*

Got the new metal F3B shell today and first notched the sides to fit on a clip-on frame as getting it to be secured with a screw isn't feasible. There's this little thing called a motor that sits right where the screw would have to go through. Motors don't like to work with a big screw stuck in them. From there it was on to the paint shop where the 'City of San Fransisco' paint job disappeared and it came out in the black and gray of the L&A. Now it's indistinguishable from the other F3B's for the most part. One of them is a little shinier.

Evening All,

Had chicken for supper but didn't grill it since it has been raining on and off all day. The guy came out and fixed my windshield today.

I watched Quintin today and without my knowledge he spilled a fruit drink on the couch then hid it with cushions. Anyone want to guess what MOH thought about that, and who's fault it was?Sigh.

Tomorrow I watch him all day again and have to take him to his school award ceremony. I wonder what I will get in trouble about tomorrow?

Here are a couple of photos from the RR museum in Strasburg

Hope everybody has a good night and prayers for those in need.
