take it that you now have some Sn*w Leopards there (and I don't mean Mac OS'es...)? How much of that white stuff did you get there? I thought you were further south of the US-Canada border (and all the cold stuff they get up NOTB). Maybe if you used a sn*w blower first, then you could mow the lawns?

Yes, it did snow, and we are grateful because we can use the moisture. Yes, we have two very nice snow leopards in Bismarck. The older male is "Jerry" and I never did learn the name of the female. She was imported from the Minot Zoo, and so the cub went back to Minot.

Jeffrey, when you were describing the house, I was thinking "Man, I hope he snagged the lights, wires, & other usables.. " Way to go - and you did indeed! I am sure you will get maximum use out of them. (Wish I knew a fraction of what you do about electricity...)

Oh yeah, I wasn't letting that stuff go without a fight.

I dont know if those electrics will work with trains, but they certainly work for lights! With your knowledge, you could wire the other half for the trains...

I can use the tapewire, outlets and plugs in some locos I'm working on.

I went down to my fathers place to look at how much the grass has grown since the last mowing. It's not high enough yet but it won't be long, probably before the end of the week. Something I noticed right was that my mothers old doll house had been unceremoniously set out on the front porch and the supplies to complete it just tossed out around it. Lately anything and everything set there makes one last stop before it disappears forever. The curb. Most likely the reason it's not there already is it's weight. It's made of plywood and cabinet board and is quite heavy. The electrics for it had never been installed and I wasn't going to let them go without a fight. We're talking a 12vac 40va wall wart, 100' of tape wire, eleven miniature light switches, eighteen miniature wall outlets, seven plugs, twelve sub-midget plugs with leads and lots of miniature electric wire. I thought there was a box of light bulbs but I couldn't find any. I also snatched a Wal-Mart bag full of classical cedar shingles. Don't know what I'll use them for but I'll find something.

Jeffrey...I forgot to ask...is the doll house bigger than your place? maybe you could move into the dollhouse...it looks like it has some rooms for choo-choos!

I could see a whole-attic layout, a bath in the turret, and a  spare BR for a "specialized layout"....

I dont know if those electrics will work with trains, but they certainly work for lights! With your knowledge, you could wire the other half for the trains...

Evening, Janie - could I have a hot fudge sundae please and a Santa Fe mug of decaf? Thanks!

Jeffrey, when you were describing the house, I was thinking "Man, I hope he snagged the lights, wires, & other usables.. " Way to go - and you did indeed! I am sure you will get maximum use out of them. (Wish I knew a fraction of what you do about electricity...)

Broadway, I take it that you now have some Sn*w Leopards there (and I don't mean Mac OS'es...)? How much of that white stuff did you get there? I thought you were further south of the US-Canada border (and all the cold stuff they get up NOTB). Maybe if you used a sn*w blower first, then you could mow the lawns? Wink

Vincent, I could also tell you a tale or two - like about our IT dept. at my office (where I think it's been maybe 4-6 months that they've been trying to get the kinks out of a new software database for our clients & patients. Or the other story of a church in this area, where one of their staff (who handled IT) left, and (not related) the update servers, well.. weren't updating. So whether hardware or software, it's not all peaches. Study hard if you wanna go that route (says the former computer sci. major, until he decided he was NOT a mainframe programmer). Thumbs Up Good that you got a decent price in selling your boxcar. My 2 CentsMy 2 Cents

PA Tom, good for you that Mr. Nice Guy was the one coming along when you were taking the railfan photos. Smile There are a few still out there, I guess.

Ken, hope you find out what's wrong with the Rio Grande SD9. Depending on how long it takes me to get the layout wiring in & hooked up, I'll see how my P2K GP9's run (hopefully quietly...).

I did manage a little progress this afternoon on two of the structures I mentioned earlier. Got the basic four walls together on one:

This is the stone building (on the Main Street Heritage site, it's called The Weekly Record (newspaper/printer place). I may go with that... Looks like I'll need to adjust that top corner of the side wall, and then I'll start on the stone (only a base coat of 'sand' color in the photo). I have the four walls on another together, but need to re-do part of the paint on it. Possibly pics of that tomorrow.

And tomorrow is the second-half-of-the-month payday (aka  bill-paying begins...), At least I don't have to go into the office Monday or Tuesday (was in-office, then on-call for Thursday, Friday, and Saturday). Maybe I can get some of my 'stuff' straightened up/tossed.

Prayers for those needing healing, comfort, good night's sleep (or an end to sn*w...).

Blessings,

Jim in Cape G.

I got some of the stuff on the layout put away. Not much but it's progress. A little while later the space was taken up by the electrical stuff from the doll house as I was inventorying my gains. Said house by the way is gone. My father took it to Wal-Mart and gave it away. He said he would have been happier if the electric stuff was in it and I told him the stuff is in better hands right where it is. I'll actually use it instead of give it to a kid to destroy or lose. It seems to me that very few take proper care of something that's given to them. Got a doctor appointment to go to tomorrow morning. General checkup and lab work. More needles. Oh joy!

Y'all reckon Slim there can pick up that thar wrench?

Well, time to call it a night. See y'all tomorrow.

Good evening.

Did plenty of scholarship form and application filling out today. Hand is sore. Ah well. Also successfully added songs to my Nokia. Pain to figure it out, but after seeing how it automatically loaded up over 100 songs (most of them favorites of mine), I figured it was worth it.

Getting late. School again tomorrow. Night everyone.

Evenin' folks!Janie, just a refill for the decaf please...

Today was fun!  It was also relaxing and a pleasant change of pace from the last few weeks around here.  I had to be at my son's house at 9:30 AM to chauffeur my DIL and both granddaughters to Rochester for a birthday party for one of Granddaughter #1's friends from school.  Party was held at Chuck E. Cheese...  Had pizza (I guess that is what they call it...  certainly not the best!) and lots of time to play in the games section. BTW, they appear to have a major rodent problem there...Whistling  Both Granddaughters loved the kid sized Hamster tunnels.  I got to escort #2 around and help her play several different games while DIL did the same for #1 granddaughter.  I certainly didn't mind being chauffeur for them and had a great time just hanging around with the group.  Most of the parents there are friends of my DIL and had already met them when taking the girls over to dance classes.  On the way home I stopped at my house for a couple things I needed and then dropped everyone off at home.  I stuck around for another birthday party this evening (DIL's Sister) and had another pizza dinner there.  The pizza was much better, but still not great...  Wings were good and the homemade cake was top shelf.  Got lots of thank you's, hugs, and kisses from the granddaughters as I left for home.  BTW, I beat granddaughter #2 at air hockey (got a lucky shot near the end of the game).

Got home to find the solar panels had a great day and put out 23.25 Kwh of power today and once again put me in the green for the month (NYSEG owes me $ - well not quite a dollar, but I should have no electric cost this month if the next few days are good ones).  Just lit the wood stove as it is back down in the high 30"s outside.

Tom, sounds like a great day followed by a great meal!  Especially the wine part...Wink

Ulrich, you might see the humor in this.  I was relating to my DIL about your mom calling so many times every day and being angry with you when she told me this one about her mom.  Her Mom is an RN who is semi-retired.  She works a few hours a week filling in in a couple of different places in the local hospital system.  For the last couple of weeks she has been over in one of the nursing homes.  They have a man who is the nursing home with his wife in another facility nearby.  he keeps calling her and yelling at her about her not being where he is.  He does this 20 or more times a day.  MIL saw the man on his way to the payphone on the floor so she immediately dialed the payphone.  It rang just before the man was about to pick it up to make the call.  She calmly told him the phone was no longer in service and he was not to try to use the phone until further notice and if he did he would be in big trouble.  He got very shook up and was quite taken aback.  Has not tried to make a call for several days now!

I'm going to catch up on the other forums, so I will catch you all later.

Afternoon guys

Been at the train club for day 2 of the open house. Well today was a dud. 13 total visitors. I did manage to sell one thing, the weathered DVS boxcar. I got 11 for it, figured that's what'd I'd get back if I sold it on ebay. And cash is good.

On second though, I may wind up using the frame from the FP45 and SD45 I got from jeff for future projects. I figure an SDP45 and SDP40 could be made from said shells. The 2 SD40-2s could be used for an SD40-2 or an SD40-2B

Jeff, so what was IT like? I'm thinking of going back to school for it, working for the government or the airforce.

Gary, I've had GPS go screwy once. It led to a 6-hour hunt for a U-haul in Miami, it wanted us to go to a hardware store when we needed to rent a car-hauling trailer.

yeah, it kept trying to send us back onto the oregon side and go through that way.

Gee, Jeffrey, now you can finally electrify that tin can you call home! Whistling

Come and see and I'll show you electrified. I rewired the whole place myself. And yes it was inspected and passed. One of my many jobs was working with an electrician. I learned a lot doing that.

Jeff, so what was IT like? I'm thinking of going back to school for it, working for the government or the airforce.

My part of it was the 'fix-it and find out what failed' end, not R&D. I've seen just about everything that stupid John Q Public can do to a computer, including some that made their own liquid cooling systems using WATER of all things and wondering WHY it shorted out when it developed a leak. I guess the dummy didn't know that water conducts electricity. Why did it develop a leak? Rubber tubing for one thing. No way to cool the coolant for another except for a small fan blowing on the tubing. Pretty obvious why it didn't work. Oh and the guy was quite ticked when his warranty didn't cover the repairs. Can't imagine why. I could have you laughing uproariously for hours telling you about the things I've seen people do with their computers. You'd have to have your ribs wrapped before went home. The upside is that I can usually tell at a glance what's wrong when my computer goes down but you've probably noticed that already. The first thing I did with this HP p7-1423W my father bought for me was crack it open and examine everything inside which didn't take as long as you might think. Knowing what you're looking at takes a lot of time off the job. But that's a job I got burned out on and I definitely wouldn't enjoy doing it again.

Another Sunday, another day of rail fanning. It started out a little slow as we only saw 2 mixed freights in the first hour. However,  2 intermodals, a unit train of auto-racks and another mixed freight showed up in the second hour. So not to shabby over all.

We did have an interesting thing happen that shows there are still some nice folks out there. I spotted a train coming and got out of the car to stand by the edge of the road to get some pictures as I usually do. I noticed an automobile coming up the road at the same speed as the train and more or less along side the lead engine. I though, well, no good pictures of the engine with the car obscuring it. Then I guess the driver saw me as he hit the brakes and came to a full stop, where he waited until the engines had gone by me and I had my photos. I waved as he went by, but I would have really liked to have thanked him for the courtesy he extended. Don't think too many people do that anymore. By the way, he was a younger fellow.

Dinner was excellent tonight. Meat loaf, mashed potatoes and gravy, cream style corn and dinner rolls. All washed down with a bottle of Cayuga White wine from a Seneca Lake winery. Oh, desert was pudding. I'm full so I'm saving the pudding for later.

Have a good week and stay safe.

Wants: 1. high-quality, sound equipped, SD40-2s, C636s, C30-7s, and F-units in BN. As for ones that don't cost an arm and a leg, that's out of the question....

2. An end to the limited-production and other crap that makes models harder to get and more expensive.

Another bumer day, must be the colder weather that set in. Actually warmed up with sunshine {I think that is what its called}. Only the 50s this week though. TOmorrow more of that strange sunshine thingy stuff!

Tomorrow with all the interview MOh has been going to, MOH needs  some new dress clothes. so we go shopping to spend money on the credit card that we will have when MOH brings me a paycheck, minus 30% for saving immediately, and minus about another 20% for taxes, as MOH, at minimum wages, pays more in taxes than Obama does...an NY is not a cheap state.

Well, I should run the final load of laundry....

As for Jeff and the IT field, maybe he got tired of answering some of the really, really dumb questions from end-users (or people wanting their computer fixed for $25 after it took a lightning strike to the motherboard - without any surge protector...). Think of all those jokes you've read, about the calls that IT departments get, and picture that level of stupidness/stupidity, day after day...Might even make BofS look fairly intelligent by comparison. Wink But then again, Jeff may have had worse than those examples, right, Jeff?

I got tired of fixing problems that were caused by people who didn't take the time to think about the consequences of their actions. That's all I have to say about that.

Good.. Afternoon, Janie - I'll have a BLT and cheesey fries, please, with a RBF. Thank you!

Hmm, did I just get TOP again? Ah well, tomorrow's payday, at least. Start the tab please, Janie.

Ken, thanks for the welcome back. The thing I forget about the Diner is, if we stop by more often there are fewer posts to read when we post (but if you are away for multiple days, as I too often wind up doing, there's about as many posts as Ken has quarters - okay maybe a bit fewer than his total # of quarters...).

Welp it’s still a bit early and dewy for outside, so I guess a load of laundry or two would fit in just fine. Brenda will be going to play Bingo so I’ll have most the afternoon if not all, unobstructed. We’ll see just how much of this not getting much done stuff is me or her. If it turns out to be me…., I’ll probably say it’s her anywayWhistling cause how would you guys really know.Laugh

Indifferent DOH!!Bang Head Why didn't I think of that a long time ago, I could have had this fantastic layout all perfect and .....cool. (shakes head)

Yep, Todd, but you know we'd be asking you to post photos for us to see, right?...ClownOops

Paul (in NV), that'll be the day, when a doctor gives you any satisfaction guarantee or warranty. (Or is that why they pay malpractice insurance? Hmm...) Anyway, sounds like you've been celebrating your older daughter's birthday properly. Nice thing about eating out is, are no arguments about who's gotta do the dishes afterward (well, unless somebody forgets his wallet, anyway). Whistling

This afternoon, I've started washing off some resin building kits and drying them off. Will see about painting them with some base coat of paint and then go from there. Couple more of the Main Street Heritage kits (kinda Western-looking,Cowboy with stone walls on the back and sides), and also the junkyard resin castings that I bought on deBay a while back. We'll see how the painting goes, might post some photos later today (or tomorrow). I washed them in the sink (double tub one in my kitchen), and thought I'd lost one small piece when I was rinsing off pieces. After some looking and shining a flashlight into the garbage disposal, finally fished it out (Grumpy Hate it when I loose or break a small part in a kit).

Hope everybody has some fun (and/or MRR'ing) time this afternoon! Even if it's a good Zzz....

Blessings,

Jim in Cape G.

Good morning, afternoon, or whatever-the-heck you wanna call it.

Working on scholarship again. Hope to get more work done on the 109 and caboose again. Hoping to get an undercoat on the caboose and lower fuselage paint on the 109. After they are done. I will put time into the P-38, which has been sidelined for a while now. When that's done, I'll work on the good ol' P-51D Mustang.

howdy everybody! well the trip overall was lots of fun we didn't get to see #700 or 4449 because the GPS put us on the other side of the river(how is it possible? not sure the things been screwy the whole way to the interpretive museum), the Pasco museum was closed but we watched the BNSF hump yard for a bit, then we went to the last museum sort of sped through the building so we could look at the stuff outside (lots of logging equipment and an SP&S F3A and Caboose). As we were headed home I caught an all EMD trio two ACes and a MAC in Exec colors.

  Morning All,

Well I have been absent from here for about a week, and seems I missed lots of the goings on.

Ulrich  - Sorry for the loss of your dad.

Galaxy -  Good news about YOH getting a job

Jeffery - hope you are feeling better.

I have been busy with w**k, which is getting on my nerves, and my business. Trying to make a go of it without having to move. Still paying doctor bills. Too bad the medical profession does not have a satisfaction guarantee. It just does not seem right to have to pay a medical bill, when I no longer have a wife.

Today is my oldest daughters birthday, so we have been celebrating for the past two days, by eating out. I am still stuffed, but we had a good time.

Today I am going to spend some quality time with my trains.

   Prayers to all in need.

      Paul

Good morning. It's 45° with 95% humidity. There's some clouds. The high will be 75°.

Still under the weather but I'm feeling much better than I did yesterday. Not being able to remember even simple things was the absolute pits.  That doesn't seem to be a problem today.  So maybe I'll be able to get some layout work done. Nothing special, just put some things away. It won't clean up the mess but it will reduce the clutter a bit.

Good Morning!!!

Coffee and the Sunday Breakfast Buffet please, thanks.

Partly sunny, with a high near 61.

I got done yesterday what I needed and wanted to do (believe it or not) leaving today open for…., you guessed it, yardw**k.  I’ve got so much to do it’s not funny.  Hopefully, I’ll be getting time to get back in the trainroom more often here again pretty quick.

Ya’ll have a good day, ya hear!!!!

Ah....  been quite a day here.  We have had clouds, sunshine, rain, snow, high wind a bit more sun, then more snow, and lots of wind.  I just checked down cellar to see if any water was on the floor and then looked at the inverter before it shut down for the day.  Not a terrible day, but not spectacular either

If we had that weather here it would be declared a state of emergency, with schools some roads, public offices closed. All TV and radio would have commercial free continuous coverage of the huge storm.

T'was a funny day around here as well...and with windchill to boot, some areas north of here just got hammered....friend of mine living up near Bracebridge told me of flooding and then a big snowsquall showing up...with even more potential run-off for them today

This morning we currently sitting at the mighty 20f with a  current windchill of... tada!!...14f...like I said yesterday...back to winterGrumpy

Not much going on today...may get a bit of train running time later on this afternoon...anyhoooo...have a good day!!Wink

Evening gang!Cowboy

Been outside all day! Son #2 came up. He recently bought a house with a small lot and relieved me today of the littlest John Deere, an R72 rider. I'm gonna miss the little bugger because of it maneuverability Crying but we don't need it here anymore. The John Deere 40 and the Cub Crapette keep things under control here. While I was waiting for out grass to dry out, Son #5 and I emptied then swept out and rearranged the shed. Then cut the grass. Afterward he and his friend went longboarding, and while SWMBO was grilling dinner, I climbed on my 12 speed bike and went in search of those 2! Yes, 1st time in 2 years, 1st time since my stroke, and I rode the bike  around the block without a problem.Big Smile

Tomorrow we'll help SWMBO plant the rest of the flower bed, spread the rest of the mulch, then I'll see if I can get somebody on her bike for a nice little ride.Big Smile

UlrichAngel Prayers for you and yours. My Mother has suffered from Dementia for years, but it became much worse after my Fathers death.  Try to not let it get you too down.

Well gang,,thats all for now. Gardening tomorrow, job fair to attend Monday, and a 3rd interview Tuesday morning for a job I really really want! Yes If I can land this one, it will be the 1st time since 1980/81 that I haven't been in the Automobile business! That will be a BIG Yahoo! Cowboy

nite gang,,cya when I can!

Karl

NCE über alles! Thumbs Up

Cudaken, the P38 has temporarily been sidelined. I'll work on it again when the 109 and caboose are done. The 109 intercepting B24 Liberators at 30000 and the caboose on the high iron, which will hopefully be soon. Night everyone.
