Jeff -  that's an interesting 'Guns & Tackle' shop - it reminds me of a DPM/Woodland Scenic white metal kit, but the roof on it looks... different than I recall. Have you had that long?

That's exactly what it is, a Woodland Scenics white metal kit. There were a couple of variations that could be built with what was in the kit. I picked it up last year (assembled of course) in a trade I believe. I've made no changes to it.

Jake - sounds like you had some good fortune at the train show. Thumbs Up

Everything on the hudson is working, and the Timken is in really good shape, so I feel good about it.

Good morning.

School again today with some minor work in the evening.

Good Morning!!!

Coffee and hashbrowns covered in sausage gravy with a couple scrambled eggs pitched on top please. Oh and could I get a couple pieces of whole wheat toast and some apple jelly too? Thanks.

A chance of snow and sleet before 1pm, then a slight chance of rain. Cloudy, with a high near 40. Gotta dusting of the white stuff already.

Ray- You up??!! Furnace guy’ll be here in a bit. Hope all goes well there. A little stiff this morn? You start being a little more careful….er. We don’t want you falling and  laying around waiting for help some day.

Like Ray, I don’t like leaving the house with a fire going even if it’s the dryer. So we don’t even leave with the clothes dryer running. However, we don’t give the furnace a second thought. Nor the water heater.Tongue Tied

Hello Cape Jim! Good to see ya. I know yer still kickin from the e-mails, just nice to see you in the diner once in a while.

Welp, today…, er yesterday (getting ahead of myself there) went as planned. Pretty much so I guess, though not as many naps, and not as much done to the layout as wantedLaugh. Applied a couple rock faces (need more) and put some joint compound over the plaster cloth. I need more Joint compound as the bucket I have is moldy and I’ve pretty much dug around as much as I can/want. I also ballasted about a foot of track between the rails going into the tunnel and under the bridge. Vice versa actually. Might do the sides this afternoon or evening. It’s a small area and I want to get the scenery pretty much done before I set the bridge you know. This drying time is a killer. I should look for something else to do while that is happening, but my continuing resolution of completing one project before starting another has been such a good one. Hmm Maybe if I look at the railroad differentlyConfused….hm. Yes, maybe so.

Got both batteries in the ole power drill (not the one with the fried charger) charged up and ready for action. Today is the day we tear the pews out of the Church Sanctuary and put them in an adjacent room. We’re “refreshing” the Sanctuary with paint, new carpet and lighting. Should take a couple weeks. Preacher said next Sunday is “Casual Sunday” because we’ll be in the basement for services.

Best get a movin so I’m not late. Project begins at 8 am with coffee and donuts…..Hey….. We’re MethodistsDinner Laugh. I kinda wanna get there to take some before pictures. We’ll see.

Ya’ll have a good day, ya hear!!!!

Thanks. Wish I could take credit for it but it was already assembled and painted when I got it.

Good morning. It's 49° with 95% humidity. The high will be 72°. A wind advisory is in effect.

Looks like it's going to be a windy day here come about 10am. The weather guesser is talking about a south wind around 25mph coming up with gusts to 35mph. It's calm outside right now. Not a breath of wind.

It should be a good day to get some layout work done provided something else doesn't come up which it probably will after I've picked up three items. I'm also toying with this crazy idea of starting work on the primer gray FP7 to get the grabs and rails mounted. This includes drilling the holes for them. See why that sounds like a crazy idea?

EDIT: Well, I said I might get something done provided something else didn't come up. Well as usual something has. About one minute after I typed that my father called saying he has something I need to help him with. Isn't that always the way?

I think I have beaten Barry's cold!! I can BREATHE today!! Big SmileBig SmileBig Smile

Had some excitement in the neighborhood yesterday, wife came back from the grocery store and said "hey lookout here, they got the street lined with firetrucks!" Seems a neighbor, 4 houses down had a fire in the basement! 2nd fire in a month in our development!  The one has yet to be determined, but may have been the clothes drier that lit up!

Well, off to the post office to send off some ebay winners stuff, the stop by SWMBO's office, possible project there. Then the rest of the day is mine!!

Todd. I hoped you remembered the deodorant,,,,I'd hate to hear you put the p-u in the pew! Laugh

Good Afternoon!

I am glad I survived this morning. My parents do their very best to take care of an early end for me. After a number of really unpleasant phone calls, my heart was acting like a roller coaster. I went to see my doc and he was not at all pleased with my condition. He told me I am suffering from a total burnout and urgently told me to find a way to relax. But how to?

On the positive side, I have lost 30 lbs. in the process.

Did I mention my brother called my parents yesterday? That explains why they were all mad this morning. Thursday will see the move to the new place. Once that´s done, I will drastically reduce my care for them - just to keep my own health and sanity.

Enough of that - have a good one!

Mornin' everyone!

Zoe, I'll have a bowl of hot oatmeal with brown sugar and a cup of dark roast coffee this morning.

Currently 24°F outside and all the furnaces are off.  Lucky I got up early enough to rake the coals and the wood stove fired right up for me.  I have it 69° here by the computer right now.

Furnace guys showed up at 8:25 for their 8:30 appointment and there has been lots of noise going on down cellar.  Manét has been over to meow his displeasure about the noise several times.  Old furnace is gone and they drilled the hole through the side of the house for the exhaust pipe as the new one is already in place and being hooked up as I type.

Todd, so there is a Methodist in your Madness?

Ulrich, you have been through a great deal with this, but do know how much better off your parents are because of what you have been doing for them!  Good luck moving them closer to you and know you remain in my prayers.

Have a number of deadlines to meet this week so I best get started.

Later!

Morning all: Seems like everyone's a comedian around here today. Let me just say this "Don't quit your day job" those of you who have one that is Laugh

Still got the white fluffy stuff falling from the sky here. Sheesh, winter is suppose to be uhh, waning isn't it. Oh right,, this is Alberta. We can get the white stuff 12 months of the year.... really!

Darned cat has decided that 5 AM is the time for Mom and Dad to start the day. Wakes us up, bugs us for his morning treat and his breakfast has a lap cuddle as I drink my coffee then off he goes to have his morning nap. Job Accomplished. Some times wonder why we love him.

Have a Honey Do list to go running for this morning, plus I'm once again out of wire. Not really, I just don't have the right colors/gauge for what I'm doing. This hobby sure takes a lot of wire.

Well, better go chase the vac around the living room. Seems to be one of "my" jobs since MOH wrecked her back a few years ago.

Warm thoughts to all

The wind has come up here, about 25-30mph and the white caps are rolling on the lake. To be more accurate, big waves out in the deep water and BIG white caps in the shallow areas. Anybody out there has got to be a nut!

I helped my father with his project this morning then we went to the Waffle Shoppe in New Llano for breakfast, so it hasn't been a totally wasted morning.

Yep, it is that time again! No real time for trains this morning but I did put out some resumes. Cannot say any of the jobs I applied for are ones I want. But one thing for sure is I don't want this one any longer.

I got one goal, that's to make it to friday in one piece so I can get my check and order myself a pair of specially commissioned SP&S RS3's from lowell smith. the same place I got #99, could it be that I may end up switching from the BN to the SP&S? Nah, I love the big green freight machine too much.

Ahh, I see, it's a man made lake. What's it used for? Power generation. Couldn't be irrigation given the amount of rain you get.

As for tree stumps, don't they clear the area before damming up the water? They have to remove everything up here before they dam the water

Ah maybe it's cypress trees growing in the water. Never thought of that.

Nope, it's old pine trees. Back in the late 50's when the lake was planned nobody cared about clearing the area first. The original purpose for the lake was as a giant flotation pond (4,600 acres) for a timber company. The lake was created in 1961 by damming up several large creeks. However the timber company backed out and the parish was stuck with a lake. It didn't take long for some to see the possibilities of a recreational lake. There's been much talk over the years of clearing the dead timber from the lake but that's all it's been, talk.

Sundown Guns and Tackle has everything! Some of the shots are from the new camera. It's just a VGA camera so it isn't sharp but sometimes a shot sneaks through. Most of the new photos are from my Nikon L20. The only thing I've done to the Magnolia tank car is put new couplers on it. Much of the 'weathering' is dust and rust. Real rust. The car is all metal.

Seems like forever till I can "Get on the road again".

My pride and joy!

Sigh! Anyway, enough of that. Big news for the day for me at least is that I finally got to watch a train run on my layout. Bout time I'd say. A few issues that need to be resolved like some turnouts that need tuning and some weird DCC stuff but it sure felt good to run an ore train with my brandy new F8 AB consist and It's got sound. Now that is a new experience.

Nuf said, it's been a good day

They swim in it when it's a normal level like now, weather permitting. There's a public beach not far from here. In the real hot years it gets low. The year my younger niece got married was a hot dry year.

Evenin' folks!

Janie, just a decaf for me right now...  Been a long day.  But a productive one.

Jeffrey, you gots any Alley Gaters over in that there lagoon?  That might limit some folks going skinny dipping I guess...  LOL  Seriously, any problems with critters in it?  Water Moccasins or other such things?  Maybe I shouldn't watch that Bayou show when I'm over to the son's house...

The furnace people took a break about 11 AM to go to a call for help on a furnace and then get lunch.  He told me they would be back around 1PM.  1:05 PM I hear activity down stairs, sure enough they were back on the job.  You know when the owners actually do the w*rk themselves, they tend to keep moving!  When they left for lunch I snuck down and got a couple photos.  They had already removed the old furnace and had a good start on the new.

By 3 PM they were finished had test fired the furnace, showed me where everything was, how to use the new thermostat, and then sat down with me and went over all the paperwork to get the NYSEG Rebate (filled in, all signed and in the envelope to be mailed in tomorrow).  I wrote him a large check, we shook hands, and he was on to another call.  Looks like this now:

Comes with a 10 year parts and labor guarantee, so I figure it should do nicely for as long as I will probably own the house.  Although I hope I outlive the guarantee!  One less thing to worry about around here.  He did suggest I move the heat producing computer stuff (battery Backup, switches, and stuff) as they sit right below the thermostat.

I also printed several more 7 x 5 photos of members of my High School Class who have passed on.  There are 40 of us now gone...  Some of the ones I printed today were close friends of mine in school.  Makes me feel a bit sad....

Later!

Ray. Nice looking compact one.

10 year warranty? better than the 1 year we got and then of course the furnace needed over $1K in repairs 2 months after the warranty ran out. since the old furnace was the same brand and lasted 28 years -even surviving an oil to gas conversion, I didn't much think about the warranty.

But I'll bet We paid less for ours than you did yours. A lot of money for us though...Cheap is as CHeap does I guess.

and, we didn't get no stinkin' rebate from NYSEG.

We CAN add C/A when we can afford it. Double the cost of the heater alone if we had it installed when it was. Doubt we will ever have it installed though.
