Ah good ole Pennsylvania..........

I AM HOME.   Smile, Wink & Grin

Welcome to my home state everyone YesBig SmileYes

A pic or two from my old home town of Birdsboro PA........once had 3 railroads in the late 1800`s.

The Reading Co., Pennsylvania RR, and the Wilmington & Northern.

The old Birdsboro Corp. in Birdsboro........this company made a lot of heavy machinery for the steel industry.......also they made freight car and caboose trucks.

The old PRR station in Birdsboro PA.

The old Reading Co. mainline looking west toward Reading PA......the line curving in from the left was the old Birdsboro Industrial track.....and extension of the Reading belt line.

There used to be a wye here along with a small yard and where all the trees are was the location of the old Colorada Fuel & Iron, Spencer Wickwire Division.......where Strasburg RR # 4 came from (formerly Reading Co. # 1187)

Evenin' folks!

Janie, just a decaf right now, thanks.

Just bidding the time before giving Blackie his evening pills.  He was out earlier begging for a snack so I hope he will eat his pill like he should.

I got the presents wrapped and the card signed for granddaughter #2 this afternoon.  Potato Salad is all made and that which isn't being taken to the party tomorrow became most of my supper tonight.  The guy from the Brown Truck brought me a better tire repair system to pout in the PIP in case of an emergency.  It doesn't have a spare (like a lot of new cars) but has a little air pump connected to some gunk that supposedly will get you too the nearest Toyota Dealer as long long as you are close to a Toyota Dealer...  Only problem is the gunk to put into the tire ruins the electronic system that lets you know when a tire is low on air and so when you take it to the dealer you get to pay considerable $$$ to get the system back running.  The Prius Chat Group highly recommended the unit from Slime I bought.

Ron, does this look familiar to your wife?

It is the bridge I would like to scratch build for my layout.  It has seen better days.

I will be trying to get permission to go up to the ROW to take more photos and get a few measurements.  Probably won't be allowed to but, I won't go on RR Property without the proper permissions.

Time to see to Blackie!

Later!

Well, it's time to call it a night. Bringing all those groceries in earlier was almost like work and putting them up in the cabinets wasn't very comfortable either. I should sleep good tonight. See y'all tomorrow.

Good Morning!

The sun´s out, certainly giving a big boost to my spirit. I´ll be heading north again tomorrow to meet a potential buyer of my parents´ house and to spend an hour with my elders to cheer them up a little. Only a little more than a 200 mile round-trip in that awkward car of my parents. It does not accommodate my 6´5" well.

Ray - you were right - the "stolen" things mysteriously appeared again. What a nuisance!

Have a good weekend!

Mint tea, please.

Enjoyed seeing the nice layout photos, guys. Have we heard from Sue lately?

Only the lightest dusting of snow out there this morning and mostly on my deck. Should melt right away when the sun hits it. Heading back to The Cave for more sleep.

Have a great day all.

Cheers! Cowboy Rob

Good morning. It's 32° with 81% humidity. The high will be 48°.

It's going to be a cool one today. A northwest wind is coming across the lake making it feel colder than it actually is. This gives a good incentive to stay inside and work on the layout. There's still plenty more clean-up work to be done.

Galaxy, if it is denied, find a legal aid society nearby and go after them!

There IS a fair hearing MOH can apply for, to contest the contesting of the unenjoyment {now see why we call it that??}.

MOH will apply for it if denied. With the Sequester supposedly affecting unenjoyment, may be hard to do...BUT MOH has been going around like a raving lunatic and said will certainly in no uncertain terms tell a few people off. I said THAT won't help your case at all!!!! MOH said "I must get it out of my system or I will do so in the hearing!!!"

We shall see what we shall see.

Meanwhile, have not heard if my medicaid is continuing or if we get SNAP. WE won't have food if we don't get food stamps. In a month we will be out of food, like ULrich was.

I have worked/reworked the budget, we NEED that unenjoymet to pay the bills, no doubt. We have enough to cover the basics out of my check, baring no emergency expenses, and in order to pay a new loan we took out the day before MOH got the ax, we need that money, or we default to the credit union. There is no way around it.

We may even have to declare bankruptcy over not much, but we will then lose the reliable van, the kia which still has  a loan on it. we don't have much choice. OUr income has been CUT in half!! NOt a pay cut, but in half!

Well enough of that.. we haven't heard yet and a fair hearing could take months.

We shall see what we shall see when we see it.

Good Morning!!!

Coffee and a waffle with strawberries and whipped cream please, thanks.

G- Ok, I see now. I guess the policy is a good one IF  you aren’t told to clock back in. Just too bad it wasn’t recorded. Anyway, I hope for the best.

Ulrich- Unfortunately theft in Nursing homes is common in Springfield. Not big stuff, but pilfering snacks, jewelry,  little things and yes, money. The staff, oddly enough, will tell you to not let the resident have more than a few dollars. Most have a “bank” that you can put money in and if they need some money, they just  go get it or, this one place let you charge it and they took it out of the your account. Of course who will prove a resident did not request any money, if the patient is not fully in charge of their mind.  I make it sound worse than it is and there are plenty of honest staff members, more than dishonest I’m sure, butyou always seem to have one or two you know. And yes my Mother accused the staff of taking things as well, only to find out she hadn’t even taken it with her.  Hang in there pal, it’s easy to say from thousands of miles away, but we’re pullin for you. And them too, we want them to be as happy and comfortable as they can be.

(rumages around in boxes....) Is it me or did we lose the welcome sign?

Ron- Welcome!! Oh and the girls were just messing with you. Somehow, and don’t ask me how because I haven’t figured it out, this place has virtually every food imaginable and the cooks can cook every recipe exactly as you like it. Also, and this is a real head shaker, no calories and somehow all diabetic friendly.  Amazing. Kinda like living magical place.

Gee whiz Barry, whatta ya got there, giant gopher invasion? You have the worst water pipes in that neighborhood.

Welp, I’m gonna try out a theory.Hmm In spite of all that makes any sense, I think I stand a better chance of getting in the trainroom on weekends when Brenda is here, than on week days when she is not. Like I said, makes no sense, but I think is true.

Ya’ll have a good day, ya hear!!!!

Indifferent WHOA WHOA WHOA!!! Ron, watch your language. (looks over both shoulders quickly and around room)There are retired people here. You have to say w**k, or similar. It depends on the context. If used like, "you do nice work" in reference to modeling, it's ok. Or like in agreement you say "it works for me", then that is ok to. But as used to reference manual labor or a job, well then it's kinda frowned upon in this establishment. Kinda like the female dog, some contexts it's ok, others will get you slapped. It's ok, most people slip the first few times. In fact, have a cup of your favorite on whoever has the Top Of Page. Many of us still slip from time to time.

EDIT: Jaaaaake! You too! Combine housework if you must, but housew**k is preferred.

Good Saturday almost afternnon, all! 22f and not a cloud in the sky. It is just beautiful out there!! Going up to 36f today.

We're gonna miss Church tommorrow because we're driving to Hudson, WI. to watch my grandson play in a hockey tourny. It's the last game of the season. Then 3 weeks off and his baseball and summer hockey starts. He said he hopes Mom and Dad can bring him up so" we can run the trains, PaPa!" Sure love the little guy! We'll get to see his 15 month old brother, too. Oh, and daughter and SIL. Almost forgot about them.Whistling

Pfc Son's Staff SGT. posted a few pics on his unit's FB account, first time I've actually seen him since October,'12. He is absoulutly RIPPED! Arms look like my leg! 'Course ,one pic showed him humpin' the 240B, evidently his new responsibilty. That's the MG that replaced the M-60. Great big thing. He looks good.

Well, came up from the basement for a break. I'm ballasting the main line. I HATE ballasting the mainline. I HATE ballasting. Period. Got around 15' of double track done. Looks pretty good, but man, a guy's gotta work slow and patiently. Did I mention I HATE ballasting?Grumpy

That's all for now. Prayers for those that need'm( G and Ulrich).

W**K, unless related to the MRRing world, as Todd said, IS  a  dirty word here!!! It may simply be because some are retired, or that others who still toil DON'T want to be reminded of it!!

There are NO dirty  4,5, or 7 letter or other vulgar words {or symbols such as &$#((^$$} here!!!

And W**K is a 4 letter word!

Jeff- make sure you have room for the box with the cars You'll have work to do to bring them up to your standards

Curt- Your box of three is at Jon's.

I have four Tropicana cars- 2 are all green with silver roof, one is all white with one door, other is white body with green roof and ends, double doors. A fellow diner gave me a fifth, car not booze, white body and roof ,with green ends. Very nice Red Caboose model. On left side of door is Orange Juice while on the right side of door is " ORANCE JUIGE "   Is it possible the person printing the words mixed his juice with Vodka???

Wish all Wellness and Warmth Prayers.

Well LION *has* been up in train room. Been repowering a subway train, he has. Has not tested it yet. HIm also glued more weights to the bottom of most cars. Glue must dry before turning train back over onto its wheels. This is one of the one-motor sets that I run on the express loops, where it is its own leader and follower all in one!

V8Vega

84 Today 13 degrees colder tomorrow.
Calif gas tax is going up 3.5 cents July 1st and that makes it 70.5 cents the highest gas tax in the nation. Calif. is wholly controlled by one party and has the highest income, and sales tax also plus there constantly adding fees to our property tax.
The car cover I won on eBay arrived today and on the package I saw the postage was $13.58. I paid $5. + $10 so the poor guy went to this trouble for only $1.42.

Adding fees to property taxes is a nifty idea for them. I am sure NY will follow soon. We have a "2% per year property tax cap" program in process here, but I don't think it covers adding fees! NY's will probably soon see that happening soon as what CA does, NY often does too.....gota cover the deficits and State Mandates somehow.

Sounds like you got a deal on the car cover then!

Well, a boring day, really CHilly here too. Will be the next 2 days too before a warm up. I am sure others are chilly too.

Here are some  Featured Railroads in Pennsylvania, south eastern areas:

Strasburg Railroad has been spotted in the background scenes of the TV show AMISH MAFIA. MOH, who doesn't care for the prgram and has never watched it, made a big deal of pointing that out to me int eh commercial for their 2 hour show comig up { or did it play already}. I said "well, of Course Strasburg RR is in it, the show IS filmed in Lancaster county, you know!

ALSO: THe Strasburg RR was featured in parts of the Railroad Barron's part of "The Men Who Built America" on the History CHannel!:

http://www.strasburgrailroad.com/the-men-who-built-america.php

March 29th-31 the EASTER BUNNY Train will run!!!

For those unfamiliar with Strasburg RR {you hold outs you!} here is the link:

http://www.strasburgrailroad.com/

They even have a real live steamer Thomas there! FOr those with little kids or grandkids or great grand kids!

If my old computer hadn't died and I can't find the hard copy uploadable of Strasburg, I'd post me some pics to share. Sigh

Someone mentioned EBT RR in PA, Or East Broad Top Railroad. Unfortunately, they are now defunct, unless they can get it together this year. The message on the webiste is" On April 1st, 2012, the East Broad Top Preservation Association's 3-year lease to operate the East Broad Top Railroad with an option to buy has ended. After painstaking talks and options were evaluated and discussed, no arrangement could be made between the East Broad Top Railroad and Coal Company and the East Broad Top Preservation Association....At this time there are no certainties beyond 2012. We can't say this is the end of the line, nor can we say this is just temporary. Should any type of operations or events be planned in the future, we will announce them here. Until then there are no further details"
