Well, lets see.... Just a couple of pieces of toast this morning Flo and coffee please and thank you. Foggy and cool here. Sn*w in the forecast for the next 3 days. About 10 degrees below normal for temps too. Ick! Sick of winter.

Daughter's suppose to drive up from Calgary today to pick up some stuff from here that she wants. She says one thing and does another so who knows if it will happen or not. Darned kids.

Have to go to the e store and buy some more # 18 solid wire in 3 colors for the switch machine wiring job that's next on the to do list. Then the scenic dividers and fascia. Hopefully by the time I get that done it will be time for spring cleanup in the yard. Model RR will be down to rain days once the weather warms up.

Wish I could find some Atlas twin coil switch machines, new or used. Is there a buy/sell website for Model RR stuff on the web someplace?

Anywho, time to go scrape the windshield and drive to the north side for wire, again and again. Sigh

Have a goodly day all.

Morning y'all.  Just stopping in before starting my HD list.  Today is my day off from w**k, so its hanging out at the house with the kids (as Heather is on Spring Break also).  Tonight we have a small group meeting with some friends and members from our church.  Other than that, probably do a whole lot of nothing.

Welp, gotta go, I'm being summonsed....

***Lee, sounds like Katje really misses you when out of view. Or wants very much to "help" with the layout. Laugh

Have a good day all.

Ray - I'm not really sure, but if I had to guess, I would say they do have to get an emissions test. There has been talk over the years about changing the law so that a new car for instance would be exempt from testing for say the first five years or so, but nothing is ever done. To make a bad system worse, is there any other way when politicians are involved, the testing requirements are based on geographical locations, rather than state wide. For instance, I live in Allegheny County, so I'm required to have my car inspected, but suppose I lived on a street where my neighbor across the street was in Butler County, he wouldn't be required to get an emission test. That's Pennsylvania, where the state does everything half-a**ed and 25 years behind the rest of the world.

Morning guys

I haven't been in in a while. I've been too busy with other things

Today I've actually gotten around to working on some trains. I got my order from accurail for some doors for a Front Range boxcar I'm building (took long enough) so I have the doors in green paint, which is drying right now. I also got all the shell parts for my GP5 together. I just need to get a BLMA grab iron template and some grabs, MUs, and a few other things and I'll have everything.

I did do some shopping on Ebay recently. I picked up a BLI SW7 in BN with QSI sound/DCC for under $100, an athearn BN RTR SD40- for $60, and a few accurail BN cars. Both locos seem to go for over 100 on ebay.. The SD40-2 is the only one I'm sort of lamenting right now, as it's kind of a project. It's missing a numberboard (IDK if the BB athearn ones will fit the RTR ones) and it's fans, antenna, and horns are messed up. I think I have almost everything in my parts box. The good news about it is that it's supposed to run very well and it's actually fairly nicely weathered. I might plunk the motor into the ATSF SD40-2 (still haven't heard back from athearn) while I get some stuff to fix up the BN one. As for the SW7, I had  an SP one and liked how it worked since it actually pulled very well for it's size due to it's metal frame (like the atlas/Kato Geep). So I'll probably keep it, but I'd want a second one... I might use it as a 3rd inbetween my SW15 and SW10, or pull the electronics and stuff it into one of the other SWs with a QSi upgrade chip for a EMD 645 non-turbo.

Ken, I got your locos in the mail yesterday. The lady said they should be there by thursday or friday. Although when I got home, I noticed I left one of the fuel tanks and the LED for one the P1K F3 chassis behind. I'll mail out a second pacakge with them in a few days..

Jeff, Some of that "old" stuff I might be able to use. I'm curious what's down there. If you find an Athearn Trainmaster chassis with trucks and/or any AHM/Rivarossi U25C shells let me know. Also any athearn plastic F/GP, SD40-2, or SD45/F45/FP45 sideframes would help me out.

Later today I'll cut the steps out of my project P2K GP7 and GP5 (Ph. 3 GP9 with a chop nose) so I can use the risers I made to have 4 correct steps like the prototypes. I just need a small square-nose, flat end, smooth jaw, pliers to bend the steps. I forgot to get one at harbour frieght when I went to pensacola the other day.

Vincent

Wants: 1. high-quality, sound equipped, SD40-2s, C636s, C30-7s, and F-units in BN. As for ones that don't cost an arm and a leg, that's out of the question....

2. An end to the limited-production and other crap that makes models harder to get and more expensive.

Coffee refill, please.

Question: Are the (HO) Kato Unitrack #6 switches ready to use on a DCC layout? Note: I would have some manual switches and others controlled by throw-switches, but none controlled by a DCC unit. (leaning towards Kato track over Bach. EZ track)

Resumed removing screws holding the last sections of the old (N) layout to the walls in the train room. Might need to have my hired hand assist with removal of the sections though. Can't handle much these days.

 Evening Folks

 Why Thank You Flo! Beer

Warning, while I was messing with the layout AVG got a Trojan Horse while I was on this web site. Seems the AVG did it job, guess we will see after I reboot the Keyboard Thing.

VA Visit, just about a total waste of time.I was sent to Plastic Surgery for some reason. I asked "Why Am I here"? They did not know? When the Doctor saw me, he asked me why I was here? Told him I did not know? Only thing I got out of the visit was some Socks and I did get the needed blood test out of the way.

Train Front Not sue why it happened, but the E-8 came out of it coma when I used the DT 400.

Vince, looking forward to the new engines, if they show up Thursday that would be great!

 Later, Ken

I think they'll live without me for one night, probably not gonna do much of anything I suppose I could sketch up some track plans for a 4' x 4' layout. maybe I'll order some Code 55 track just to see if it's what I really want.

Evening All,

Just got back from taking MOH out to supper for her birthday.

Nothing much happening this way other than Friday I will be out of town. Tomorrow I'm going up to the LHS and then grocery shopping.

Well,

 a rather strange day.

MOH put in some computer resumes. Seems we may have to revamp the revamped resume some more according to the professionals. Things like removing dates that will age you or jobs over 10-15r years NOT applicable to the job applied for I think can actually give you away as if you don't supply dates, they probably ASSUME you are "to old". every professinal has an opinion aoubt the resume format..but you knwo what they say about opinions...

As I pointed out, being 53 and "unemployable" means MOH has to work 5 times as hard as a 20-something.

I think the better bet will come with the placement service of the educational institution MOH wants to go to, but the courses don't start til June..

I Strongly suggested MO volunteer for jobs near the CNA or LPN MOH wants to go for. May help in networking for new job. But MOH doesn't "want to". Is "depressed" and can't face it. I said then go to Dr. to get something for it like I take! DO something about it! Sitting and wallowing won't solve the problem! 2 months is long enough to wallow.

Meanwhile, I have to put the Kia Sedona up for sale. 1} we can no longer afford the payment and 2} need to have something that is paid for. Won't get much to replace it with, because there are no "cheap cars" now, BUT. Wish we had the money to buy now and sell later, but NOT. Have to sell first then buy. have my eye on a Kia Rio wagon 2002, low miles for $2150, but is far far away and don't have the money to buy it now. I'd go the distance if we could have the money to buy. Looks about the best deal I've seen. MOH is not concerned about it as is not MOH's vehicle! But when MOH wants to go somewhere, I will *kindly* point out we don't have a good reliable vehicle. i think the next we buy will be paid for up front so no loans to worry about. THAT will take time to get to a "reliable" vehicle.

MOH suggested divorce if i don't like it.I said "marriage is about working problems out TOGETHER,not divorcing at the drop of a hat" . I MAY just  divorce and move in with my father, I said if MOH doesn't get with it and get moving. I pointed out to MOH would have no money to pay ANY bills then..I HAVE an income! MOH doesn't now! It just cannot quite support the 2 of us, need two incomes!

Made MOH apply  more seriously though!

ARG stresses! and more stress!

Well. off to bed soon to TRY to sleep. Haven't been sleeping lately because of bills and no way to pay.MOh of course sleeps 12 hours a day as is "depressed".

I am the one who has PAPERS certifying bi-polar with prominent feature depression. I can deal with life and things..so can MOH. If not get meds that will help!

Arg. This is why i haven't been posting lately except the AM greeting.

have a good night.

Evenin' folks!

Janie....  Ah, I see you already have it for me.  Thank you, Ma'am!

Galaxy...  Hang in there!  I would light a candle for you and the Mrs. but I would probably burn my house down....  Do know you both are in my prayers.  Something will show up for the "other half"!

This has been quite a day around here, it has!  Got a call mid afternoon from my oldest son to let me know his wife fell at the school (Hillside) she teaches at and broke her Radial bone.  Not sure which arm...  She will be out using her sick days from work I guess even though it is a Workmen's Comp claim.  They sent her to a hospital  about 40 miles away from where she works due it being Workmen's Comp.  Anyway tomorrow I will be filling in as chauffeur for DIL and Granddaughters for a few things over the next few days until she can drive again.

I drove over to a teacher friends house late this afternoon as she had a couple trees that the state took down on her property right next to the road she wanted to give me for firewood.  One of them has poison ivy vines on most of the rounds....  Those my son and I will carefully roll into the woods for her.  The other will give us a couple trailer loads of firewood easily.  Only problem is I no longer have a truck, and my son has yet to get a trailer hitch on his wife's SUV for hauling his boats...  I also no longer have the wood splitter, but have been considering getting a light duty electric one.  We will work this out, but not good timing.

I am going to be sore tomorrow...  Spent a couple hours today stacking stones putting up the start of two stone fences and then split some tree trunks to make rails for a new wood fence.  Huh?  Well yeah, I'm talking HO scale here but it was still hard w*rk!

Time to find a nice warm comfy spot to catch some Zzz

Prayers for all in need!

  Evening All.

Yesteray went to the orthopedic doc to check my knee. He has no clue, chalks it up to old age. Still on the Naproxen, and will be for two weeks and see him again. Good thing is, he does not think surgery is needed.

Ah Wednesday, day off w**k, but still had lots to do. 1 load of laundry, food shopping, got to the accountant and got my taxes done, had the Saturn Vue serviced, cleaned one bathroom.

Was hoping to get some modeling in, but just got too tired, and besides tomorrow I have an opening shift.

Gary - Nice scene, looks great.

     Prayers to all in need.

G

I dont know if your area offers this, but down here we have offices in each county that are geared to get folks back into the work force. Note only do they have job listings that never get to Monster or Career Builder, but the also have resume coaches, classes on networking, interviewing and such.

I know you are not crazy about social sites, but YOH may want to reconsider Linkdin. The interview I went to Monday was off a Advert there, nowhere else. Forget the newspapers, you might find more on Craigslist.

I can relate to what she is up against somewhat, being 52 and competing with "kids".  Its not easy, (especially with a slight speech impediment and wobble at times related to the stroke) but you gotta try, day in day out. I'm usually up and on line at 6-6:30 every day, 7 days a week going through job boards till about 10a.m. and going once a week to the county job center. Luckily for me, MOH has a good job, so between that and unenjoyment we're OK.  Best of luck to the both of you. Angel for you both.

It's been busy here today. I was going to get started on the closet this morning. As soon as I was going out to get a trash can the darn phone rings! You guessed it. It was my father calling. He wanted to have breakfast in town and he had things to do in town as well and I figured into his plans. So we got his stuff down and I got home about noon. Got a late start on the closet. I sorted through the contents of six boxes and tossed out enough junk to fill a thirty-five gallon can almost halfway. And by junk I mean pure dee junk that even I can't use! Damaged loco frames, a bunch of cracked or broken loco shells, cracked trucks with stripped gears, freight cars that were damaged beyond hope, etc. On the flip side I found some motors that are in fair shape. With a little work they can be put to work again. Also found some Planet Toys Ford and Dodge vans and some Malibu vehicles. A couple of Ford Pinto wagons, a couple of Ford Escorts, waht looks like a retro T-Bird convertible, a Fire-bird convertible, a late 60's Z28, John Deere tractor or two and a few semi-trucks. I got the six boxes thinned down to three so that's progress.

Time to call it a night here. See y'all tomorrow.

Good Morning!

Is it a good morning? I don´t know yet. I am up for several hours now - just could not sleep. Late last evening I was called by the nursing home. My Mom had packed up and left the place. Fortunately, she did not get far and they could persuade her to return. As there is no legal means to "tie" her to the place, we will most likely face that quite often. It all burns down to an unresolved conflict between my parents on how and where the want to spend their last days on this planet before they meet their maker. Neither my brother, with whom I enjoy a rare case of agreement on this issue, nor I can provide any help in this, they have to settle that among themselves. I am just aghast, that this is a question at all - after 62 years of marriage! What´s the value of this marriage, when my Mom leaves my Dad at a time, when he needs her the most?

Galaxy said "marriage is about working problems out TOGETHER,not divorcing at the drop of a hat" and right he is, but I am afraid that the two are unable to work this one out. What´s left for me is to step aside and watch them going down rapidly. Makes me utterly sad - and mad at the same time.

No, I am not a happy camper.

Have a good day!

Sir Madog

... I am just aghast, that this is a question at all - after 62 years of marriage! What´s the value of this marriage, when my Mom leaves my Dad at a time, when he needs her the most?

There is one issue here that plays into their marriage that doesn't play into mine YET.. didn't you say your mother has Alzheimer's or some kind of "separation from reality" disease? SO she is not with all her mental faculties, and her decisions may not be rational or reasonable ones.

Unfortunately you may be right, you may face this problem often as  you said she flat out doesn't want to be in a nursing home.

It, and things like this, should give all us aging buzzards pause for cause to reflect on WHAT WE want for ourselves when WE get to such a state! And put it in WRITING somewhere will others will find it to know what we want!

Long term health insurance is  a NICE idea, but if you have it, don'tt think it will cover you. My neighbor had LTCI. She went through $250,000.00 of it in about 3 years! Now lives with her daughter  at an advanced age {high 90's}!

Knowing what we know about my MIL as well...she is in bad shape but not dead yet....

well, have a good day anyway...

Lunchtime!

I´ll go for a slice of that deliciously looking pizza, Flo, and a mug of strong coffee, please.

My parents have been terrorizing me all morning - 12 calls. My Mom has lost all the money they took with them, a suitcase is missing and numerous other little things, like where is the paper for the printer. It´s all there, but she is so confused that she does not find anything. I will go there in an hour, not only to "find" all those missing things, but to set a few things straight. I am not going to tolerate this any longer - period. Unless both accept were they are now and issue the necessary power of attorney to me to handle their business in their best interest, I won´t be responding to these emergency calls - period.

I don´t know why I am helping my parents the way I do. They have never been the loving and caring parents they should have been. No wonder I felt so comfortable with my guest parents during my year in the US. They had "adopted" me in the best sense of this word. I still am very much attached to my guest mother and miss my guest father, who died almost 20 years ago.

I am just glad I seem to be a better parent to my son.

Good Morning All,

29F but only partly cloudy here at the shop. Cancelled my trip to Sebring and just left three of the crew and the Audi there as the rest of the drivers cancelled out.

I can sympathize with you Ulrich - we're going through a rough patch with my Mom just now she's 92 and insists she can care for herself at home, doesn't want the VON  [visiting nurses] in there helping and wants to reopen her Bed and Breakfast. Except of course she can barely see, can't go up and down stairs, etc. Ah well my grandmother broke out of her rest homes repeatedly as well so we have mutual experiences there as well. At least here, being named executor and having power of attourney is a must as otherwise most of the assistance cannot be accessed without a bottomless checkbook.

Nice street scene with the trolleys and peeps.

No layout progress other than soldering the joins in the rail for the yards. Mostly I'm asleep an hour after I get home from the shop.

Hope the rest of you get better or have your situations improve soon.  Catch y'all later, J.R.

Good Morning!!!

Coffee and biscuits and gravy with a couple scrambled eggs tossed on top please, thanks.

A slight chance of rain before 10am, then a chance of rain and snow between 10am and 1pm, then a chance of rain after 1pmTongue Tied. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 48. Chance of precipitation is 30%. Looks to be highs in the 40’s thru Wednesday at least.

Yes Garry, nice scene!

Galaxy- You and YOH are in my prayers.

You too Ulrich, you have a tough row to hoe.

WhoaIndifferent, if it’s junk to Jeff, it’s GOT to be junk!

Welp, got me new drivers license yesterday. Cost me 30 bucks thoGrumpy. I guess that breaks down to $7.50 a year which doesn't sound that bad I suppose. Took the vision test and forgot to put my glasses back on after writing the check. Actually I forgot, but when questioned I told the guy I was just checking to see if I still could and....yup, no problems. I just said I feel more comfortable with them on and especially at night. The restriction keeps me smart. What? LaughYes in Illinois, apparently you pay for your license before you even find out if you get one or not. Part of the new deficit reduction plan I thinkHmm. Ray, you should be getting the bill for your Illinois Drivers license sometime next week I think. Don't worry they accept Mastercard, Discover and debit cards (No Visa at this time for some reason). Pretty nice you don't have to waste the postage or the fuel and lodging just to be turned down. This way they just get your $30 then they can e-mail your denial. I think that's the best way too myself.

Still it's pretty pretty easy to keep a licensein this state for a guy who never had a ticket in 35 years of driving. Nope not a one. Ifn you don’t count a parking ticet due to taking longer to conduct insurance business than the meter allowed. Who’d ever put a 20 minute parking meter downtown?! THAT was when I changed insurance company’s and said I’d never conduct any business downtown Springfield if I could avoid it. That was when I was 18.

Today I have laundry and a few odds and ends around here, not including w**king on the railroad. Still haven’t finished the tile floor yet either. Slow going for me on this one, a few minutes here and a few minutes there, but hey….., I’m getting in there almost daily. Even if it’s just for a few minutes.

Ya’ll have a good day, ya hear!!!!

Good Morning

Partly cloudy today...that is what the guessers say...right now? Snowing like the proverbial backhouse and windy to boot.Grumpy

We went through the same stuff that some of you did when my parents went through their rough parts...except we managed to get them to give my sister and myself PofA...it certainly does help...

 Morning

Flo, Bill Sizes Coffee Pleases. Coffee

Sitting here waiting for the BoS and Green Path confreres call. There is a web address on the back of my wife's SSI card, I am thinking I may be able to get a print out of her SSI payments from there site. That may or may not help dealing with BoS, we will see. Whistling

Ulrich best of luck dealing with your parents, just remember it is not your mothers fault that things are clouded in her mind. I am starting to have my fair share of Senior Moments my self!

  See you all later, Ken

Mornin' I think.....  Ah, yep It seems to be morning here at the moment.

Zoe, I'll have the Eggs Benedict and my cup of dark roast coffee in a FGLK Mug today.

Slept like a rock all night....  Of course when I do that I have trouble getting moving even to just get out of bed!  Blackie gets his morning pill at 9:30 AM and it took me until 9:40 to roll out of bed, stand up, and visit the room at the end of the hall...  Some old guy with a beard was staring back at me in there.  I made an evil gesture at him (the nerve!) and he did the same back at me.  Actually it was good to get a good nights sleep as that hasn't been happening a lot lately.

Ulrich, sorry to hear the saga just seems to keep going.  Good luck sorting out all that has to be done.  My father, as soon as he got home from the hospital after his heart attack, decided to give power of attorney to both my sister in Canandaigua and me.  He also had one drawn up for my mother who wanted no part of it.  I loaded them both into my pickup truck and drove to town to the lawyers office.  The lawyer came out to the truck with the prepared forms for us to sign.  My Mother said, "What is this!!!"  Dad just said shut up and sign it!  She insisted she needed to know what it was.  He insisted she ,"Shut up and sign".  After he yelled at her loudly a few times she signed because she didn't want him to make a scene in front of the nice man...  "Who was that dear?"  "Never mind!"  Having that piece of paper made a world of difference getting Mother care during her last years.  She finally gave me her checkbook and let me just take care of things for her.  She was already in mid stage dementia when she signed the paperwork and had no clue what it was she was signing.

Todd, thanks for the warning.  If they won't take VISA, I ain't paying! Laugh  Here in NY you have to prove you don't need hearing aids to get the license renewed.  So my license has a code "J" on it so I have to be wearing my hearing aids in order to drive the car.  Luckily it doesn't say they have to be turned on, I just have to be wearing them.  What you need to do is get a little trailer in Flowiduh.  You live there one day over 6 months each year and then you will qualify for a Floweeduh Drahvers Lahsince.  No vision test, no hearing test, don't even have to be able to walk.  Just have someone wheel you in to the office, pay the fee and they will give you permission to drive anywhere in the U S of A I hear...WhistlingLaugh  I have family down there, BTW....

Ken, good luck with the confreres call...

I better see if I can still keep moving...  Not even dressed yet and I have to be at my son's house in three and a half hours.  Catch you all later!

Good morning. It's 49° with 55% humidity. The high will be 70°.

I'm getting a late start today. After yesterdays closet cleaning I think I'll take a break today. There's still more layout cleanup to do and I may get to that later. Another problem that needs addressing is one of my FP7's has a bum motor. It runs though it's noisy. It's to the point that when it stops it doesn't always want to move again. Usually a sharp tap takes care of that. I thought it could be a loose connection so I checked everything over and resoldered any suspect connections. No difference. So I ran it chassis only stopping and starting it until it failed to start again. I used my meter to check for continuity across the motors terminals and there was none. Aha. A fault in the commutator? A brush going bad? Who knows? I tapped the motor with a screwdriver and continuity returned. Pretty obvious the motor will have to be changed out at some point.

Good Afternoon!

Well, I am back from that emergency visit to my parents. Of course I found all those missing things, including the money. My Mom had "stolen" it from herself, just to have a few hundred bucks on her hand when she leaves Dad.

What followed was a Philippic statement from my side. Spare me the details, but at least I have reached an armistice between the two. I just wonder for how long. Should hostilities be resumed, I´ll drop out of this game.

Zoe, coffee and a slice of that cherry crumble pie, topped with vanilla ice cream and sprinkles of bitter sweet chocolate, please:

 Morning Again

 Flo, Diet Dew

Conferences call with BoS, Green Path and I. Call went a little better than I expected! First, the Modification Case has been reopened again! So that means I am not going to be foreclosed on anytime soon, like next month. My file has never made to underwriting to be Officially turned down because lack of a paper trail from Sues SSI Payments. To be honest, the longer I can drag this out the better I feel, I don't think BoS will help in the long run!  Longer it takes gives Shaddy time to pass away in her home. While she seems in good health, 10 years is a long life for a Irish Wolfhound.

Paycheck, hum lot fatter than I thought! Seems I hit a Mystery Bonus of $100.00 and the mystery to me is what did I do to get it? Whistling  Sure would like to know so I can do it again! Plus it looks like the company paid me for the Snow Day we where shut down? Only thing I can guess with me getting a extra 8 hour's of O/T? Anyway I look at it, my check is for $250.00 more than I figured and I will take it!

So now I will not feel guilty when I go to K-10 Model Trains and buy a new engine.

See you later, time for a nap.

well

Happy Pi Day! On March 14, mathematicians, scientists and everyone else who just loves pi (or pie) celebrate Pi Day—so named for the Greek symbol π, the ratio of the circumference of a circle to its diameter. The number’s first three digits are 3.14, so  its holiday (which was officially designated by the House of Representatives in 2009) falls on 3/14.

ULRICH- I am surprised your mother is allowed to keep ANY money. Here, in hospitals, nursing homes, etc, they strongly suggest NO ONE keep amy money OR restrict anyone for having money so no claims of anyone stealing it cna happen. IF one DOES have money, it can be locked in the hospital/nursing home safe so it is secure. You NEED to leave her with NO MONEY so she has none to STEAL. Tell her you sill take it ot the bank for her and deposit it and DON'T give her any other way to get any money!!! SAD when we take all cars, houses, drivers licenses, money and dignity away from our elders, but NEEDS to be done!!!

Well MOH is napping now, but will hit the jobs taril soon I hope. Hopefully I can get MOh to apply to volunteer at the local hospital. They always need help and MOH will get networking done there. also not leave gaps in MOH's work history! It may not pay, but will give MOH experience and something to feel worthwhile about!

SLeep came last night and this AM for me finally. I slept form 10:30 pm to 6:30 AM with only one stop to the facilities and right back off to sleep, Then I went back for a nap at aobut 8:30 and slept to 11:30 !!! SO catching up! FINALLY!!! Feeling like another nap this afternoon, but MOh may want help with things.

Well off to do some chores and have lunch!
