Evening All,
I met Phil at the LHS this morning. I couldn't resist the 2 Accurail X26 boxcars (PRR of course). Phil and I then went to his house. He has a nice double Dog bone layout with enough turnouts to do switching if he so desires. I actually like what he has done and he has done it very well on a very limited budget.
When I got home I filled 8 lawn bags with oak leaves from the front yard so after that I skipped the train club tonight.
Ken- I guess it's your fault Phil's trains were not working correctly
Garry- That is a interesting bus. It would be interesting to model it.
Ray- Awesome job on that Water Tower.
Hope everyone has a good night and prayers for those in need.

Mint tea, please.
***B.N. Gary, sorry you had a rough go with the math. Try not to hurt your new trains. Those are some wicked old train photos.
***Ken, sounds like you're having way to much fun again!
***Ray, really nice job on the water tower. Fine work there!
***Dennis, hope you got that window covered up. How about pics of the progress in that area? Would be interested in seeing it.
***Jeffrey, sounds like some pretty good eating there. So, have you created a future MRR-er out of your great-nephew?
Question: Any of you have the DCC Walthers turntable and if so, how easy is it to hook up all the feeder/storage/roundhouse tracks? Do you run separate wires to each track in a certain order? Been thinking with a select few (upgraded) locos, might be nice to actually store some of them in one location, perhaps even in a roundhouse.
Had a mix of sleet and rain earlier and there is a winter storm warning up, although I think it is all north of here. Have a worker coming tomorrow morning, so will get caught up on some neglected farm work.
Cheers! Rob
Jeff: Sounds like you had a great time. If I was around those potato chips wouldn't have lasted long, lol. If I was to have one junk food for the rest of my life it would be chips for sure.ust reading your post I now want a hamburger and a hot dog.
Not much going on here. I picked up the new Mode Railroad Planning magazine. Some great articles which I will read more in depth later. I always enjoy reading the articles on the small switching layouts.
Family barbecue is over with. Hamburgers, cheeseburgers, hot dogs, sausage, ribs, potato salad (home made), corn, black-eye peas with jalapenos, three-bean salad, potato chips. The potato chips never got opened for some strange reason. It was a very nice family affair. Entertainment was 50's music from Sirius Satellite Radio. When it was over with the fish got the left overs. Not the chips though. I took my IHC Alco C629 down to show it to my great-nephew. To say he was utterly fascinated is an understatement! His attention was so centered on the loco you could have driven past him in a Sherman tank and he'd have never noticed. Now I'm back home, gorged and tired. It's been a busy day. One thing I forgot about yesterday. While at the funeral home I dropped my Nikon camera (L20). It was off at the time. The impact broke the locking tab off the battery compartment door. A piece of masking tape made a great redneck style quick repair. Hey, it works. As far as I can tell the camera still performs like it's supposed to.

Good afternoon everyone. I had the pleasure of Curt coming to my home to view my pike He is such a gentleman. Didn't even chuckle or sneer when he saw it. Of course , Murphy, the bain of our existence as modelers, made his presence known. Three trains quit running. Oh well! At least the coffee was hot.
We did have a deep discussion about our families. I have a lot of respect for him as a man. We all know he is a heck of a modeler.
Blessings and Prayers for all.

I won't blame you for washington states failure to teach us the math we needed to know to take a college level math class, I didn't even make it three problems before I closed the tab with my math class homework on. I'm shaking because I'm so worked up, I mess with my, model trains but I might break something. I hate fractions, and fractional equations, and every other thing that has to do with my homework. we never learned it so I've essentially wasted $585.65 on a math class that I will never pass, I knew I should've waited until I had done all of my other classes before I even thought about doing math. I'm gonna hop off the soap box before I cause any more trouble....

Afternoon Folks
Flo, pleases
Yep been one of those days. Today was one of those days if anything went wrong, it was my fault! So if your car would not start, your credit was stolen, your pet is sick, your house caught fire, your plane crashes, your phone goes out, if your power line fall down, if your tress die, if your stove breaks, your beer is flat, if you hate your job, your train derails or if you where born ugly! Just blame me, it is my fault!
At this point I am 98% sure it was my fault we went into a depression and are heading over the Finical Cliff! I even bet I caused unemployment to raise .10 of a % last month here is the U.S.!
Want to guess how my day went at work?
Ken
Yep, that was my fault.
This as well.
Yep Me Again!
I hate Rust
Afternoon, Flo! I'll have a pineapple shake, please. Thanks!
Jeff, thank you for posting the photos from your mother's memorial. I sounds like it was lovely, with all the flowers and with your father telling all the stories about your mother. That was neat how they met - very fortunate (for the whole family) that he stopped at the motel on his way heading for home.
Jeremy, I too was looking at an old MR recently - I'd been reading the article(s) about towns & cities and it mentioned that one building had been in a (Sept.?) 1973 MR issue. So, I decided to see if I had that issue (which it luckily turned out that I do). Now, that doesn't mean I want to do like the guy who wrote the article and scratchbuild the building, mind ya...
Garry, your tale about the CFO's ever-expanding use of closets sounds like the ladies' equivalent of how our layouts seem to expand to whatever available space there is... Oh, I got one of those curly-que lightbulbs for my living room table lamp. It did NOT give off enough light to get through the shade (which was an older lampshade, but...), and I got thinking about the stuff on the package outside which sounded like if the bulb broke, I'd have to call in a Hazmat team for the cleanup... I forget whether I took it back to the store, or gave it to someone else who was more concerned about that climate change than their own health. Interesting bus there, for sure... Is that a passenger-baggage combine type?
Barry, I hope and that you and your cold/bug/whatever will part ways soon(!). If it's the flu, I know that some people down thisaways have had it for about a full week before they got it to move on.
Ray, it sounds like Blackie was just adjusting to the taste of those pill pocket muchies. Now that he like them, should go well getting his medicine in him. Your vet didn't give you the wrong pill (like say, for a horse?), did he/she?
Ken, great photo of the CP there - of course, between that and Dennis talking about his -35F cold spells up his way (good reason to 'wall' over and insulate THAT window, all righty!), I would almost feel a nip in the air. However, here, we're up to a balmy 42F (and in a car with the sun shining on ya, that feels warmer than the air temp! But Ken, rest up your doggies (feet, not wolfhounds or other furry ones) after that day of almost totally being on 'em.
G. yep, at those prices, I probably wouldn't buy ANY RR book (a tad bit too $TEEP...). Some Amazon book prices (particularly the out-of-print ones) are downright outrageous, to almost robbery. Hope your migraine (and other pain in areas) fades away quickly for you.
Got laundry done this morning, and realized I needed to replace at least a couple of pair of pants I wear for w**k. So after I checked the post office box (no notice on either of two things that should be coming in... ), I also went by Sears and lucked out. They had two pair of pants like I liked and in my size (my 34 inch inseam is the problem area - if I were shorter, I guess I'd have more choices...). Got those, then stopped by a bookstore (didn't find any I had to have right now) and then KMart to get odds & ends (deodorant, toothpaste, and some goodies to take to a SBowl party tomorrow - chips and a 2 liter bottle of Dr. Pepper. Never can seem to find Pibb, which I'd like better. Anyway, got the errands trip done and back home.
Hmm, I feel like taking a nap...maybe I'll grab a spot in one of the back booths by Duke and the others..
Blessings,
Jim in Cape G.
Jeffrey_ when we have had trouble wihthte cable...it ALL had to be replaced too...they siad it was that the old cable "wasn't up to new code" or something like that..we didn't care as long as it fixed the problem we were having wiht the cable TV {and internet}. Ao maybe somehting like thta happened with your vcable, or maybe it had stretched to a point where to keep it taut it had to go.
My headache is better, but I am bored not doing uch. Nice to have MOH doing stuff for me, but makes me boreder if possible. My knee is bothering me morte thant than my head rihgt now, but I took a script pill for head.
Well...I have t o figure out diinner...don't know and didn't pull anything. maybe sandwhiches tonight...

Jeff .... Thanks for sharing some photos from the memorial. Prayers continue for your family. We call the Waffle House "The Awful House", but actually some of their food is not too bad except for the grease.
Galaxy .... I watched the video. Looks like the track is a bit rough for the Sugar Cane Train.
I'm still working on scenery for the layout. Also, I'm trying to kit bash a bus terminal at a location too small for one.
Cheers.
Well once again my plans got hijacked for family priorities. Breakfast at the Waffle House with the family. The booths aren't big enough for seven so we took two booths. From there to Wal-Mart so my father could pick up some things for a family later today. Since I was ther I picked up some gauze pads and tape for what is supposed to be my right foot. Right now I'm on my old computer at my fathers place. The family barbeque isn't long off so it's better to remain where I am instead of going home and having to return in an hour. My most recent cable problem was fixed yesterday. The recent high winds had ripped the cable loose from the hook on the service pole so the cable was hanging low over the road where it comes across from the main pole. It was high enough for most vehicles to get under but if a high truck or RV had come through it would have gotten snagged. I called Suddenlink about it Thursday and they said it wouldn't be until Monday and I told them I didn't care what it took, I wanted it fixed by the end of the weekend. So they put it on an emergency ticket to be done as soon as possible. It was done yesterday. they had to change out that entire length of cable. I guess it was damaged. It had been up there a long time. I'm very satisfied with the work that was done.More from malfunction Junction later.
well
Hmm...near the bottom of the page, can't have that!
have a migraine., so MOH did the dishes for me so I didn't have to stand in front of the window in bright light.
Bed rest mostly for me too..sounds like I have compnay, or SHOULD have company?
More ALOHA railroads? Well:
There There is a single book, Railroads of Hawaii: Narrow and standard gauge common carriers by Gerald M Best (1978), which is now out of print, rare and expensive. at $500+ at Amazon.com, I won't be buying it soon!
Take it easy, gentlemen. Have a good day.
Mornin' everyone!
Zoe, I'll have a short stack of buttermilk pancakes with maple syrup. Huh? Yes the real stuff imported from the north east US or Canada, please. Oh and lots of dark roast coffee to wake me up today.
Just waiting for the President of the MLK Committee to show up and sign a bunch of checks this morning so I can get some bills paid for them. I checked to see if Toyota Credit had made the transfer of funds to make the monthly payment on the PIP. They haven't, but it is likely due to the weekend so I will check first thing on Monday. This would be the first electronic payment so I want to make sure it has gone through. If it doesn't I'll have to contact them to get a payment extension to send a check.
Barry sounds a bit better this morning. Hot chili seems to be a good stuffiness cure I think.
Jeffrey, after yesterday I think a day of rest would be good for you.
Ken, take care of those feet! I hope you are still looking for a better job...
Thought I would show you folks what I have completed on the water tower:
Felt good to have some time to do some hobby stuff!
My kitties are laying on the dinning room floor grooming each other at the moment. Blackie took his pills with no problem this morning. Wasn't walking very good when he came out from the couch in the living room. At least he can still get up on the couch to sleep... The hope is too prevent further loss of use of his back legs... I hope we can!
Catch you all later.

Ah ha... Morant's Curve on the CP main line just west of Banff AB Canada. The line follows to Bow river valley all the way from Calgary AB on the edge of the foothills of the Rocky Mountains to Lake Louise then over the great divide and down through the famous Spiral Tunnels to Field. Field is small railroad community. Crew changes take place in Field. West from Field, the tracks follow the Kicking Horse river as far as Golden BC. Golden is a major divisional point. From Golden the tracks follow the Columbia river west till the rails leave the River and climb high over the Rogers Pass or rather under the Rogers Pass via two massive tunnels.
Yup, I've done a lot of research on that line over the years.
Any hoo, nice warm day here, Currently 32F high of 36F and cloudy. Another one of those Chinooks you hear me talk about They make life here in Alberta bearable in the winter time.
Let's see, Saturday... I have to block off a 6 ft by 3 ft window in the railway room because it will really spoil the continuity of the backdrop in that area, particularly since it's where one of my towns will be. So, I'm going to cover the glass side from the inside with white chloroplast, seal around the edges with caulking. After that, I'll put in 6 inches of fibreglass insulation and install the Masonite back drop as an insert into the opening. That will take care of the window and the cold conduction from the window which keeps the room on the cool side during those -35 F cold snaps we get in the winter.
That should take care of the day.
Cheers to all.

Good morning. It's 48° with 81% humidity. It'll be cloudy with a high of 70°.No particular plans for today, just general cleanup on the layout. Staying ahead of clutter is a never-ending job and I seem to be losing all the time.First order of business is to get breakfast taken care of. My blood sugar reading was 78, low for me. At that level it's somewhat difficult to concentrate.

Flo, Coffee to go pleases!
Well, off to work again. Today will be a short day, I get off at 2:00 PM. Going to see if I can get off at 1:30 by not taking a lunch break, after 5.5 hours we have to take a lunch.
Right foot (infected toe foot) and ankle is still hurting some. Yesterday was a rough one.
See you this afternoon.
Morning gang!
Flo, what do you suggest? I'm gonna need something that really sticks to my ribs today, got traveling to do.
Country fried steak & eggs sounds good, yeah, and coffee in that RAVENS mug.
"On the road again, just can't wait to get on the road again" (apologies to Willie Nelson) but it's gonna be one of them days. Gotta have JR to work by 9:30 in Westminster, then off to Timonium(train show), then to see Mom at the hospital, (howard County) then back to pick up JR at 4:00.

While I agree totally with your sentiments James, you do realise that on the two occasions that we fought together under the ANZAC banner, both were military disasters for both Oz and NZ, Gallipoli 1915, Greece and Crete 1941. No disrespect to those who made the sacrifice. "Lest We Forget".

Thanks to all for the kind comments on the service today. It's appreciated. Well it's been a busy day for me and it's time to call it quits. See y'all tomorrow.

Work Front, theme today was Duck And Cover!
Seems Dave (area Supervisor) was in the our shop Thursday and ripped the Taylor (manager) a new one! We all heard the saying Poop Rolls Down Hill, want to guess who was at the bottom of the grade? Out of the 8.5 hours (not counting my lunch break) I was on my feet 8.3 hours of the time. Anytime Taylor thought I was thinking about sitting down, he told me to "Clean Something"! I at one point I asked "Any suggestions to what to clean?", his answer was "Everything"!
Now to be honest, the shop was not well kept the day I went there. I tried to do some extra cleaning, but no one else did and nothing was ever said, so I stopped. Shop all so did not have any real cleaning supplies, no dust mop, no floor cleaner, mop is broken (I still moped but it was half butt) and tile floor need to be scrubbed! After I mopped the show room floor, it looked the same?
Taylor was very short today and border line rude, but I took no offense. My feet our killing me tonight, first time in sometime. Got uses to sitting when there was not a customer in front of me.
Ulrich, best wishes for your family in there time of need and ill health.
See you all Saturday!
Evenin' folks!
Janie, just a cup of hot decaf for me right now....
Jeffrey, glad the service and gathering for your mother went well for the whole family. Like I said, these things are at best a bittersweet time, but can be a lasting memory and reminder of the good times and good people! 57 years, that's a good long time for them to be together! May they all be blessed upon their paths!
Barry, and others thanks for the well wishes for my kitties. Tonight I finally got Blackie to eat one of the pill pockets! Took it, forced his mouth open like i was going to give him his pill, and held his head up so he couldn't spit it back out. He managed to spit it out two times anyway. Then he licked his chops. looked at me and ate it right out of my hand... so i went and got his medication, split the pill (it is large for a cat) in half and stuck it in two of the pill pockets. Guess what? He ate them right up and swallowed the pill(s). Hopefully he will now take his pills well for me. A lot easier and safer than sticking my finger in his mouth.
Barry, hope you will be now on the mend...
I had to run a bunch of errands this afternoon including, picking up the Art and Poetry at the local paper (they ran a full page spread for us tonight!), getting my allergy shot, and running back over to the vet place to pick up some canned food for Blackie. He actually appears to be feeling better already, but who knows. We will know in 3 weeks when they check his blood again. He has been walking around more and acted very hungry for a change. I also assembled the water tower and the "steel" frame for the roof of the power plant. Did some light weathering and it only lacks a ladder (which I still need to buy) to complete it. I will likely glue it to the roof and put the ladder on later. The last step will be to "gravel" the roof like the rest of the roofs on the building. Phot later, maybe...
Have some more stuff to do so I will see you later!
Good Evening...AAAAACCCHHHHIIIIINNNSKIIIII!!!!!!....HONK!!!....
