Good Morning!!!

Coffee and some of that oatmeal with brown sugar please……, ummmmm. No, no cream, I believe I’ll just put a little milk on it myself thank you.

Snow. High near 35. Breezy, with a east northeast wind 13 to 23 mph, with gusts as high as 32 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%. Total daytime snow accumulation of 1 to 3 inches possible. They’re saying another inch tonight as well.  Might end up with about 5 inches by tomorrow night. Maybe oughta get the snowblower out.

I don’t know what it’s doin out there right now but it’s blowing like crazy and there is some unidentifiable substance on the ground. It’s not snow, it’s not sleet…it’s slush. It is “raining” slush. A nice thick slush. They're starting to close things already.

Rob- I was able to make up for it today, I slept until 5:30. I don’t mind 5 to 6 am wakeups but 4 and 3 is just a bit ridiculous.

Ulrich-  I’m happy you got your parents settled.  I’m also glad you have let your Brothers’ issue start to slide off you. It sounds to me as if he’s only interested in preserving your parents money for future disbursement, to put it politely.  Been in your shoes. You are doing the right thing and in the best interest of your parents.

Welp…., just come up from the basement in response to a call from the wife. Strong ozoney smell. Started going around and found the culprit. Battery charger for my old 3/8” drill. Yup it’s toast. Luckily no damage to anything else other than a bit of an elevated heartbeat. Guess that means the drill will be disposed of unless I can find another charger which I doubt I will even try. It’s from back when a 12v drill was a real whopper and now they don’t make batteries to fit it anymore. The last one I had to get about 4 or 5 years ago from E-bay on one of those bought a bunch of old never used ones at a sale kinda things. Probably best just to replace it. Still got the ½” I use most anyway.  Too bad, it is a good drill.Sad

I didn’t get to play yesterday, I hope to get a few minutes today between “shifts”. I’m w**king on the bridge area and even though the cost is more, I do believe I like the plaster cloth better than the towels and plaster thing. A LOT more. Not first time I’ve used it of course, but now I realize the ease is worth the cost. Confused To me at least. Also I can just do a little piece if I need or have time for just a real quick something. Also not a lot of prior planning of how to use all that is made. Ok, you sold me.

I wonder if the grocery trucks will be late. One comes from Chicago of all places.

Ya’ll have a good day, ya hear!!!!

Good morning. It's 43° with 68% humidity. The high will be 60°.

Woke up this morning and felt like I'd been dipped in ink and dropped in a coal mine. The room was absolutely pitch black. The power was out so I had to turn on the little emergency light on the wall at the head of my bed. Now that I had some light I could see to turn on the electric lantern and light the room. By my pocket watch it was 3:15. The power came back on at 5:02. I checked the DVR and it indicated a stopped recording at 2:10. The cause of this? The weather guesser was wrong again. The report said the bad weather was over with last night. If by bad weather they meant rain they were right. But the bad weather was far from over with. Along about 1:00 am we got the biggest wind storm so far this year and it was still howling when I woke up at 3:15. It's still going right now but is diminished somewhat. Wind gusts are 30-40 mph.

My plan today is to get some more of the clutter off the layout. But you know, it almost never fails. About the time I pick up the second or third object the phone will ring and my plans will be put on hold.

Mornin' everyone!

Zoe, I'll have the breakfast buffet this morning and a cup or three of the Kona Dark Roast coffee to celebrate our second to last day here in Howareyah...

There are shadows outside.....!  Yep the big yellow thing is breaking through the Finger Lakes cloudiness for a moment or two.  Today should put the total yield for the month over 170 Kwhs from the panels for the month making it the second highest month for production yet.  Now a few more months from now this months output should be considered small, or so I hope.

Just got a call from my son.  His day off from w*rk...  He just got a project he has been working on finished and installed on the shelf of the window in his bedroom.  He built a solar heater from stuff he had laying around the house, a small computer fan, and a solar panel he bought.  It consists of a plywood box painted black in the inside, 3 foil hoses painted black, and the fan unit, all covered over with a plexiglass sheet to seal the unit.  He called to say it was putting out 90°F heat in the hazy sunshine we have today.  He has inherited some of the Fox (his mother's side) love of building stuff just for fun to see what it will do.  His Uncle once built a working wood powered lawn mower.  His Grandfather built full sized airplanes in the basement of his house (Had the plans for and once built a Piper Cub from scratch down there).  He comes by it naturally.

Jeffrey, what I do is ignore the phone when it rings (most of the time anyway).

Best get to doing some things around here.

Later!

Good Morning !!!

Lots of activity around here this morning. Graders clearing the sn*w off the front street right down to the pavement and plowing it to our side of the street. It's actually more ice than the white fluffy stuff so the windrow along the sidewalk is these big chunks of ice.

Got a bobcat coming in this morning to load up the windrow in front of the house big enough to park in and haul it away. There goes $110 to get that done but there is no way I can shovel it by hand Thumbs Down.

Other than that it's wash all the cupboards down with TSP to get rid of the stuff off them in prep for painting.

That and go get the 2 LH turnouts I need to finish the staging yard.

Nice a sunny right now and 32F. Spring is just around the corner in .... April.

Have a good one today one and all.

Good Afternoon!

My hopes, that my parents are fine, are not being fulfilled. They are completely unhappy where they are and I do understand them. I will have to move them again. We found a place close by, which is much, much better - more room, nicer place, friendlier people. It´s a 25 minute drive away from our place - not 2 hours as right now. I hope my parents make the right decision tonight!

There has to be an end to this soon - my heat is giving me more than just warning signals.

Have a good one!

Just a quick update. My parents have agreed to move into the place close by. Big sigh of relief. It´ll be a handsome piece of work to get the second move done. I still have hopes that we will get back into calmer waters then.

At the moment I have lost interest in just about everything. No thoughts of MRRing, no nothing. This will change as soon as Petra and I have a chance to come back to our normal life.

Afternoon folks!

Ulrich....  Wonderful!  I hope this happens without a hitch for you!  Still keeping you and yours in my prayers.

I did my laundry today...  Two loads of wash are in the dryer at the moment.  When grocery shopping.  No, Galaxy, you aren't the only one who has to do THAT... Whistling  Done spent enough $$$ today that I have now earned 50¢ off per gallon next time I fill up the PIP.  Probably will be this Saturday so I can get the tank level down below 1/3 of a tank before I patronize the Oil Baron's Establishment.  I have put 438 miles on this 10.5 gallon tank so far.  Computer says I have averaged 68 mpg this time.

Have everything ready (I hope) for the MLK Committee meeting tonight.  I will have to do some explaining about my mathematical methodology in coming up with the profit/loss (it is a several hundred $ loss) on this years MLK Service last month.  We plan on losing money on the service, but this year due to number of people we fed and some other items we lost a bit more than usual.  Several quirks in accounting presented themselves like the person with the bill for the programs giving her yearly donation by paying part of the cost and keeping the cash from another person to help pay for the printing...  Means we have $85 that should have gone to the Scholarship fund that is essentially not shown in all the accounting and hasn't been transferred over to the 501c account yet. The $$$ works out to be the same but I expect some members to question the figuring.  I also printed up a handful of last years scholarship applications so we can, hopefully do some updating before they have to over to the high school next month.

Sky is getting greyer outside, but today has been a great day for electric production.  I am definitely now past the total for last November for production.  I like....  At 12 noon it was at 9.25 KWh already.

I finally received my Atlas FP7 in the mail today, eleven days after it was shipped. It's a 70's era model as I expected. Originally Santa Fe, somebody stripped it and very carefully sanded off all the molded on grabs then painted it primer gray. A diesel detail kit came with it. It's standard DC of course. I test ran it to see if the motor works. It works quite well but the gears were as dry as burnt toast and very loud! Add to that the pickups on the rear truck were loose and the pickup keepers had fallen off. I had my work cut out for me. I got all that sorted and it runs smooth and quiet now. That makes five FP7's I have now, four 70's era Atlas and one 80's era Con-Cor. Here's what $20 bought:

Now I gotta get me something to eat. My blood sugar is down to 67. When I get to working on stuff like this it's almost to the exclusion of all else!

Ken : Good luck on the job search, your right that is no way to have to go through each day at work

Jeff: We are going to get some real nasty weather here tonight also. But in the form of snow.

Well Guys,

I have had a miserable couple days. Its just my luck too as I got a new job last week which I like and come Sunday night and Monday I have had a bout of stomach sicknesses like I have never had in my life. I lost count how many times I Ick!. I had to call in sick on Monday and I could only manage 5 out of 8 hours today. Also to top that off we are expecting a massive snowstorm tonight which will make it very hard to get to work tomorrow. Its so frustrating, I get a new job last week and have to call in sick already. I am more mad then anything to tell you the truth. I came home today at 11:30 and was asleep by 12 and just got up now. Just very weak feeling right now. I haven't been sick to my stomach in years and no soon as I get a job BAM..... Angry

From what I see at the Weather Channel website it looks to be mostly in the form of a liquid where you are...  Maybe some freezing rain, sleet, and other stuff...  Looks to be about the same here in the Finger Lakes area.  Most of the stuff that accumulates on the ground should be to the west of us.  Still rather icky weather though.  Good time to spend the day in the trainroom.

I just put out some kittie treats for the boys.  Manét was over asking for them.  Blackie was still on the couch where the two of them have spent the entire day since this morning.  I went in and Blakie smelled the treats on my hand, stood up and looked at me as if to say, "Daddy, aren't you going to carry me out so I can have some too?"  I carried him him out to the kitchen, he ate, and then came into the office area to get picked up and cuddled for a while.  he has now hobbled back to his perch on the couch.  I try to get him up and moving around on his own power as much as possible.

About time to think about making some supper....

Later!

Fortunately it's too warm here for that white stuff. The extended forecast (next couple of weeks) shows rain with periods of something called sunshine. Anyone know what that is?

I've always loved trains , but I discovered the airplane at an early age. Specifically the War plane, it has a lot to do with my love of history. My favorite aircraft is the B-17, but there is a list of my favorites too many to name off it's an assorted grab bag of WWII, vietnam, cold war, and modern aircraft. Mostly US with some from other countries. so here's a 1/144 scale F-15 I've been working on today.

I wouldn't know . WE are in an area that gets few "sunlight days" per year..mostly only in JULY-AUGUST.

But, I hear tell that that thar "sunshine" is some sort of "giant ball of gasses exploding in the sky"... It is also called the "bright yellow disc in the sky", or a "giant orb of white/yellow in appearance".

I once actually had to leave the country to see some sun. We had rain after rain after rain all that summer and I went to N side of Lake Ontario in CANADA and came back sunburned. I was asked "where did I get that much sun?"...I told them I had to leave the country to find it!

Fear not, for sunglasses shall be needed again....someday....

Good evening ....

CDN Dennis .... The brake line model is impressive. I see they got rid of the trip pins.

Ulrich .... Sounds like a positive step is being made for your parents.

Those model airplanes reminds me of some I made as a kid. I assembled them in my bed, and later my mother completed about glue in the sheets.

Not too much done with teh layout today. It's busy. I'm getting ready for a trip.

Cheers, everybody.

Had Fettuccine Alfredo for dinner tonight, something I don't have often. Well as I reported earlier I got my fifth FP7 today. That makes four Atlas and one Con-Cor. I don't much like the mostly plastic motor Con-Cor used. When it fails I'll slip in a PPW can motor. Enough about that. Back to the new arrival. It's a 70's era Atlas model. I had to put a bunch of work into it, little things mostly but they were time consuming. I did something new on the rear coupler. On all my FP7's a #5 or #148 would be too low. This time I calculated how much I'd have to shave off the rear of the shell to have #148 in a #242 draft gear box at the proper height then ground off that much. I also had to chop off about half the length of the box to clear the rear truck. I installed the coupler and box then checked it with my Kadee coupler height gauge. It's right on the mark. I know what I'll be doing to the other four FP7's. I also installed a DCC decoder. I hard wired in a 9-pin harness and plugged in an old Lenz decoder. It'll do for testing and a good run-in. Later I can pull out the Lenz and plug in a Digitrax DH123 when I have one to put in. That was my fun for today.

Time for me to call it a night. See y'all tomorrow.

Mint tea, please.

***Gary, cool model. Look forward to seeing the finished product. Love WWII planes myself. Used to have many models of them, but nothing that compared to those of my two neighbors growing up. One was a German friends father who was a very fine model builder with a basement full of WWII planes. The other was Admiral Spangler who also had a room full of WWII models hanging from a ceiling. I was hooked, but mine were not even kits, but neat little Mini-Planes. Ah the ariel battles I had with those.Laugh BTW, my dad was lead bombardier for a group of B24 Liberators. Recently received some of his lost medals. Unfortunately, he had already passed on last year, but at least he saw the confirmation letter that they were being sent.

Last nights wind storm landed a tree across my driveway, taking out the powerline and snapping the top of my power pole. Here is a pic of the work crew preparing to remove the old pole, followed by other pics.

With the power out, I cranked up the wood stove and made a yummy pot-roast today. Also, once the driveway was cleared from the first crew, I darted out to the PO where I had a package waiting. It was the WS City Hall/Police building. Very nice!

Has been a long day, so Good Night all.

thanks rob, that's awesome, sorry about your father. My Opa was a warrant officer in the army he was a huey pilot and a tank commander I have his coffee mug. As for my mom's dad "grandpa" he was a mail train guard when he was stationed in Germany, he's always telling me about the german steamers both big and small.

 Evening Dinners

Flo, surprised to see me this early? Yep got out on time for a change! Yes Beer Pleases.

Work Front Got a nasty phone call from Tyler today at 9:30 AM wanting to know why I was not at work? Super Angry Told him as far as I knew I did not come in till 1:00 PM and that I was closing everyday this week! He looked at the schedule, came back to the phone and apologized, I was right!

When I got to work Tyler had all ready went home, he really does need some time off. He has worked everyday for 3 weeks. With him gone I had a pretty stress free day and made a few bucks.

Health / Work Front. Not sure yet if I am going in Wednesday yet. Been having sines problems for a few days, now on the same side I have a small tooth ache. (is that spelled right, sure does not look right) Plus on and off today I felt like I had a fever. My days of going to work sick is over!

Well I see you all later.

Evenin' folks!

Janie, I sure could use a nice hot cup of decaf right now...  Why thank you Ma'am!

The MLK Meeting went quite well tonight.  We got a huge amount of business done and people assigned tasks leading up to the Scholarship Dinner in May.  Of course several of those jobs are as always assigned to me...  I don't mind as most of the things I enjoy doing and am glad I am still able to be of service.

When I left the meeting, the cloudy sky had opened up a bit and some wet stuff was falling....  I just looked out the window and the wet stuff has now turned to partly cloudy falling at a pretty good rate.  I would say we are getting close to a inch or more an hour of "Partly Cloudy".  So much for the all rain event!  About an inch and half on the ground at the moment.  May have to start the old noisy gas guzzler to clean out the driveway in the morning.  I just may decide I don't need to go anywhere and wait until it melts.  I'll decide in the morning.

Ken, glad you had a good day at w*rk!  I am enjoying the photos you have been posting.

Guess I shall check the wood stove and head out to bed.

Prayers for all in need!
