My Kato NW2 is here #504 ex CB&Q is much smaller than I expected. it'll do a good job though regardless of it's small stature.

Coffee refill, please.

Watched all the videos of that meteor blast. Pretty spectacular sight and wicked sonic boom.

Got a lot done with the grapple today, clearing out a couple fallen trees and a ton of scrub. I also cut one of the trees up into fireplace length sections. It was off the ground, seasoned for two years (since the tornado snapped it down) and is now ready for splitting. Worker showed up late and put in just shy of 4 hours. Wish I could find someone who would work as hard as I used to. Bottom line is I still need the help. Oh well.

Think I may need tomorrow off to rest, then back at it Sunday.

I worked on both the Lima 0-4-0t and the Tyco 2-8-0 today. The motors in both are pretty much shot. They run somewhat but definitely not well. The little Lima loco MIGHT be capable of pushing/pulling a couple of cars provided it could keep running. The pickups are in really sorry shape. The Tyco is a basket case plain and simple. The motor will run but it can't even pull it's own weight. I don't see these two as being anything more than shelf queens. The little Lima Plymouth switcher runs but it needs really clean track. It's a pancake drive and doesn't have any grind or squeal. It only required a light cleaning. I can use it to do the honors when I have pizza. The flanges are massive.

Converting the BN FP7 to DCC will likely be tomorrows project. I'm about tinkered out for today.

Burlington Northern #24

Lehigh Valley 2089

Good morning.

Burlington Northern #24

hang tight gents as a giant space rock will miss us by 14 minutes literally.

There was somebody spreading a very bad rumor about it actually hitting us here in Towanda. I knew that one was to at least pass by very closely, but not hit us. I think they said that one might hit in 2035 or around there, and by that time, we WILL have the technology to divert the giant rock or slab of iron or rubble pile or whatever the heck kind of asteroid it is.

they'd better, we haven't made it as far as the dinos yet.

From a lifespan view point, you're right. As far as the evolutionary path is concerned, we have come leaps and bounds ahead of them. As far a diverting those rocks, all we need to do is get a space craft, which will probably be something like the Space Shuttle, and get it close enough to the asteroid to divert it using gravitational forces. It doesn't even need to be much bigger than a school bus. Everything with mass has a gravitational pull, so it is a really good idea for diversion.

Good evening.

By the end of the next pay period, I will have one big fat pay check. Lots of work over the last two weeks.

Well,

the lady and I finally got together ont eh phone with the SNAP program. She let slip that "WHEN it goes through, it would mean that...", then paused, and cleared her throuat and corrected herself to say "IF it goes through..." SO I am assuming we will get something, hwo much help it will be who knows? She also verrified my exsting card to be sure it was the correct card to use, so we should be getting something...

ALOHA! It is a beauteous 80F in OAHU today!!!

I certainly hope everyone has been enjoying my reports on railroads for Hawaii, obviously it was in its heyday earlier last century and the late one before, but still not small potatoes by any means! SUGAR plantations relied heavily on them. THe sugar plantations have reduced in HAwaii also so that contributed to the defunctness of the railroads. SHall I do more?

I had a whole post abojut a model railroad of Hawaiian railroad and the whole post disappeared when I accidentally clicked the closing "x" in the Tab! *POOF* Its gone!!! ANd NOW, OF course I can't find it again!!!! ARRGG!! DOuble ARRGG!!!

So...Here I sit all broken hearted...

PT is over for me. went today as the last day. I am not sure it did much good, but basically I have to excersize the knee and hip more, "not just use them". The best part was the massaging they woudl do to the knee and hip..which i cannot do myself, and will have to train MOH to do if i cna get MOH to do them.

I need to fillup on gas,,,will need a whole tank almost and I haven't needed that in awhile...so that will take aobut $80 with the 40 cent discount I get from the grocery store discount...helps some it'd be about $88 without the discount. SO I will take what I can get. That $80 represents my usually monthly amount for gas! So my budget is $100 for a month and usually use only about $50- $60, so I have some left over top go to the next month with.. but now I have used almost a months worth in a week...I know some of you with gas guzzlers who communte 120 miles one way to work will be overjoyed to have such problems! but for us on one retierement income, hard.

Glad I was not on the cruise that went BOOM! Cruise ships don't have a good record according to me, adn MOH wants desparately to go on one, I keep pointing out these types of problems! AND the cruise line has all but obsolved itself of any liabilty when you sign your ticket that expemts yhou form suing the. "The curise lines need to pay for the costs to the govenment based on the $26 billion they profit" the news says...Sad when you are safer on a plane than in a boat on the  water...

Well, we may go to the trian show in Scranton, but I doubt it. We don;t have moeny to spend adn MOH gets depressed not finding teh european trains in N scale MOH wnats to "remind me of the trains I rode in Germany". I say pish posh, get into the USA trains that we are riding now! whether old tourist line steamers or sleek AMtrak....

We are itching to get out to see/ride another steam tourist line..we alwyas do  time of year..it gets depressing. we can't plan this year as we don't know the money or work situation for MOH yet. Last year we plain couldn't afford it!

I do hope MOH get ssomething soon. so we can get back on feet. TOok out a new consolidation loan the DAY BEFORE MOH GOT FIRED. TALK ABOUT TIMING. I don;t want to go back to livinng on credit while MOH is unemployed as we did when MOH was underemployed. NOT good that is why we took the consolidation loan to get rid of that into perpeturity adn at higher rates. Teh CU came though for us, now we have to keep up.

MOH is in the sme age gorup/boat as ULRICH...BUT didn't have the high level job ULRICH had.Still doesn't make it easy on MOH. WE shall see. MOH need s something esaier to do anyway I think.

Well I have tiraded enough here...so Off to bed soon!

Have a good night!

Evening All,

Had pork steak and stuffing for supper, and drinking a cup of coffee now.

I finished plastering the mine and small hill. It only took 5 1/2 rolls of  plaster cloth and around 4 hours. They are drying now (still damp). Tomorrow I plan on caulking on the rock faces and paint the plaster brown. Next week I plan on doing the ground cover on them.

Tomorrow we are taking my Dad out to supper for his 80th birthday.

Sunday I go back to w***k and my new schedule is Sun-Mon-Tues. Sunday they are projecting a high in the 50's and by Wed a high of 77 F. Got to love FL in the winter.

I am trying to convince MOH that in addition to going to Strasburg PA and Steamtown in May that we really need to go to Horseshoe Curve also.Whistling

Garry- Excellent modeling scene in WPF.

Hope everybody has a good night and prayers for those in need.

Dennis- I will definitely be in Strasburg (unless life gets in the way) in May. I believe the current plan is May 16th (Pennsy Days at the museum). I'm trying to convince MOH to make the side trip to Altoona.

I said that the BN FP7 would be tomorrows project. Well, I got bored and converted it this evening. It now has a Digitrax DH123 decoder in it. I opened up the trucks to lube them and WOW! They were already lubed. Over lover lubed as a matter of fact. Big time! The gears were swimming in grease! I mopped out as much as I could then lubed the gears lightly and snapped the trucks back together. After it was all wired and ready I programmed it and took it for a test run. Quiet as an Atlas it ain't. It sounds more like an Athearn. I discovered one additional thing. The motor was tightened down too tight and causing the flywheel to rub against the frame. Loosening it up a little took care of that. Somewhere along the way someone changed out the axle gears. I have several of these FP7's already and they all have red gears. The gearbox gears in this one are red all right but the axle gears are white. I just looked at the gears in the UP unit and it's exactly the same. My other ones the gears are of uniform color. Of course these are around thirty-five years old so they have quite a bit of use on them already. This BN unit as I said is somewhat noisy but it's a stump puller and it's quieting down the more I run it. Right now it's coupled up with my CN C420 Frankenloco and being run back and forth around the layout. Soon as the donor FP7 gets here I'll fix the UP unit and convert it to DCC.

My CN C420 Frankenloco has a Bachmann decoder in it at present. It'll soon be getting a Digitrax DZ125.

Evenin' folks!

Janie, just a decaf for me, please.

rdgk1se3019

I`m headed to Long Island tomorrow to visit friends and play trains.......and I am getting there by train.

Cool!  Have fun and get some photos to share...

Ran a few needed errands today.  Had to get more coffee beans...  Dark roast of course! So while I was at Mother Earth Natural Foods downtown I bought several bars of organic dark chocolate...  Yum!  Snacks for a couple weeks.  Went acroos town and got my allergy shot and went next door and picked up more screens for the hearing aids.  I just got two packs of them about a week ago and they have disappeared.  Only thing I can think of is that they got knocked off the counter and landed in the waste basket.  While I was walking into Mother Earth Natural Foods I happened to run into a retired Science Teacher from the Middle School.  We have been friends for 30 years or so having worked Outdoor Education for many years together.  he was also the Chartered Partner Rep from the Methodist Church for the Cub Pack I was Commissioner for.  We stood and talked for about 15 minutes, mostly about Solar Panels and EVs...  He owns a farm outside of town and has put in both a huge Solar array on his roof and a small wind turbine in a field.  He is another nut case like me...

Did a bit more plaster w*rk on the scenery module.  Tomorrow I hope to start painting the plaster rocks to match some real ones I have (like I did with the other corner).  Took a couple photos but the card is still in the camera...  I also stopped at Staples and bought a 32 Gig USB stick.  The PIP can play MP3s directly off a USB memory stick so I spent a couple hours figuring out how to convert my AIFF files to MP3s for the PIP.  Found that iTunes can't do such a thing as it can only convert when it imports songs...  SO I found an App at the Apple Store that can convert from the AIFF files to MP3s.  Very expensive... $3.99.  I converted a few playlists to use in the car.  I will check out how well it works tomorrow.

I was going to make a comment about if an asteroid hitting Towanda , PA it might be considered urban renewal, but I won't.... Smile, Wink & GrinLaughWhistling  Just joking, I like Towanda, PA.  Nice town to drive through.... Whistling  In fact I have driven through there many times on my way to Shunk, PA near Camp Brulé (Boy Scout Camp).  The camp is centrally isolated and involves driving 8 miles on an old dirt road to get there.  You turn right at New Albany, go over the bridge at the Creek, then drive up the switchbacks on the side of the mountain and hope for the best.  Especially in the middle of Winter...  Yep been there!

Have a great night and prayers for those in need!

Bang Head Either I but it is a sort of sleep mode, or the repair Simon 1966 (site member ) did failed? That would be very un Simon like, he does great work!

It's after 3:00am and the tooth I had worked on Monday is acting up and keeping me awake. Had not needed to take anything for it since that one time right after the dentist had at it. Oh well, need to get some sleep. Will be back for coffee later in the morning.

Good morning. It's 35° with 66% humidity. It'll be sunny with a high of 55°.

Well today I guess I'll tear into the CN C420 and rip out the Bachmann decoder that's in there and replace it with a Digitrax decoder. Other than that I suppose some layout cleanup is needed as there's locos, cars, boxes and other stuff all over. It looks kinda like the result of an explosion in a machine shop.

Good Morning!!!

Coffee, my regular French Roast please, and a Veggie omelet. Oh and could you put some ham in it as well? Thanks. Grumpy I hate that word “Veggie”.

Talk about Hate the weather wait a day….we’re on a roller coaster ride. A small one, but it’s still obb-e-noxious.

Oh I think plane and ship travel is safe. Very safe I’d say. Considering how many flights and….umConfused…floats(?) are going on daily. Keep in mind every plane and ship that has any issue gets reported about in the national news. Even if a two seater private plane crashes in Norway you hear about it. Ya two ships have had problems here lately, one much worse than the other, but realistically, out of how many cruise ships having been under way in that time frame? Or in the last year. Or better yet, the total mishaps compared to the total “trips” since say the Titanic, not counting wars, worldwide. If you compare the same numbers for auto’s in the U.S. alone…Surprise…. Using that reasoning, you wouldn’t even want to be near a car. Or…yes it’s true, travel by rail. Way more incidents involving rail too. Whyyyyy Ray just reported one just now. Not trying to say anyone’s wrong for feeling the way they do, nope, not at all. Each is entitled to their own opinions, and Lord knows there are things I won’t do that others can apply the same type of reasoning to, just sayin.

Hey Curt, Happy Birthday to your Dad!

Luau?! We’re having a Luau? Oo! Zoe in a grass skirt…Mischief….

Welp, no plans for today othern w**k on setting the bridge. How-ev-eeeer, let me give some clues that makes me believe this will not be a stay at home weekend for Todd and that come Monday that bridge may still be sitting on the bench where it is now. First, she already asked if Sunday we could go get the ten bicycles for the Easter egg hunt the Foundation gives away. So Sunday including Church is  done. Now for today, yesterday she wanted me to think of what we may need from the store because she was going into town last night. Clue; this morning the three item list is still laying on the counter. Meansshe didn't finish the list. Reason...I didn't write anything down therefore she didn't know if I knew of something we needed, therefore...my fault the list was not compiled AND...since the list was not complete there was no sense in going to the store. Therefore, once again my fault so no use in complaining about it. She did however make some progress on her game of Riven on her iPadYes. So, today we will be going in to town to do the shopping as we won’t be able to with a truck load of bicycles on Sunday and that's ok by me because I tell you what, I ain’t a gonna push a grocery cart AND deal with ten bicycles at the same timeThumbs Down. She also knows how I feel about two trips to town in one day. Same amount of trips I know, but it just doesn’t seem the same (see? can reason against me just like I said earlier). Now that also means today, she will want to eat out because, well, we’re in town and accompanying me.... is my money. Keep in mind this woman can also turn a hour trip into town into a day long excursion and when you get home you think..how in the world did that take sooooo long no more than we did? And you will spend the next hour trying to figure it out. Then of course it's bedtime. Maybe she drugs me and time just goes by un noticed.

Anyway, as for tomorrow….guessing basically the same. Good thing we got that new stove.  Oh I hope we don't bring those bikes home like last year.

Ya’ll have a good day, ya hear!!!!

Morning All,

Sitting here drinking a cup of coffee and looking over the forum.

Well the mountain is still damp so MOH suggested I sit it outside to help it dry. Why didn't I think of that?Sigh

I'm wearing a new pair of work boots around the house to see if they will need further breaking in before I wear them at work. They feel strange to me since this is the first pair I have had with a zipper in them.

Ken- If the QSI decoder is completely shut down, to restart it is a double tap F6 or F6 F6. If that does not work try the address 03. My original BLI M1 has QSI in it and from time to time it loses it's mind and the cab number, but it works using the default address. This has happened to me several times.

Todd- Thanks for the birthday wishes.

I will try to check in later but if not I will talk to you either Tue or Wed.

Hope everyone has a good day and prayers for those in need.

Mornin' everyone!

Zoe.....  Ah.....  Very nice outfit my dear, you look stunning!  What's the occasion?  Ah a Luau!  i should have guessed.  (WOW......!  The grass skirt is ....  Better not say it here....)  Ahem, I'll have some dark roast Kona coffee and a trip to the breakfast bar this morning...

Gloomy and dark outside.  It's what the weather guessers call partly cloudy around here...  I am happy to report yesterday I did surpass last month's total for electric output.  As of last night the panels kicked out 94.75 Kwh of power.  If the bright yellow orb comes out for a while later I should see 100 Kwh for the month today.  Not great but OK for this time of year.

Not much planned for today.  Probably should go over the latest NMRA Membership list and update my records for the Division.  I do plan to spend some quality time downstairs in the layout rooms.  I have several projects that should be getting done soon.  There are others I am waiting for some items that have been out of stock for at least 10 months now.  Need railbars for Details West.  I got an email and was told they are still having problems getting a working set of molds to produce them and they hope it will be in production shortly.

Curt, hope it isn't raining down there in Flowiduh where you are...  Might not get the mountain to dry well....Whistling

Catch you all later.

[edit]  looks like my procrastination earned me top honors this morning....  Zoe has my credit card, go easy please.) Sigh

Well, although that one asteroid did miss us, a fireball exploded over Russia.

Ah...  Gary?  Is there a reason you are quoting all the quotes?  Just wondering as they now look quite silly, really!

Well this morning I got decoder in the CN C420 changed out. It now has a Digitrax DZ125. This loco is one of my Frankenlocos and as such it's an unusual looking thing. It's a Lima C420 body on a Stewart AS16 frame resting on Proto 2000 FA1 trucks that have Athearn blue box worms and shaft couplings. It's powered by an Athearn motor with hex flywheels. I made the drive shafts by gluing pieces of hex shafts into pieces of blue box shafts. Originally the steps of the Lima loco were part of the trucks. I cut them off of the trucks and super glued them to the bottom of the body shell. So looking at the front and rear of the loco there's no pilot facings, just the coupler with the steps to either side.

As an additional project I installed body mounted Kadee 148 couplers on a metal framed Mantua tank car.

Just finished removing the masking tape off the trim in the Kitchen repaint. Two walls done two to go but not today Smile, Wink & Grin Need a day or two off before I tackle the other two walls with the cupboards on them. Here are a couple of before and after shots of the walls. Heck, it only took 1 coat of primer and 2 coats of color to cover up the brown. Which reminds me... got to buy some sunglasses cause it's BRIGHT Cool

Actually not planning a whole lot today. Maybe I'll spend some time in the RR room putting in that window insulation. That should not be too bad.

Anyway, have a good one and CU later
