Will perform some more work on the troublesome 2020 turbine today. If it still doesn't work, I'm just going to look for an E-unit at the next train show.

cudaken For some reason my Figures are sweating? I have been watching my blood sugar and it seems to start as my blood sugar is starting to drop. Sugar is still high in the morning around 200 and when I hit between 160 and 140 the sweating starts. Tuesday I had my best reading at 107 around 2:00 PM, did not check after that. Rest of the week lowest reading I got was 140? I am starting to think it is because of Anxiety being caused by work! Jeffery, any thoughts?

tcwright973Dennis/Curt - You guys mentioned shift schedules. Ours were very open the last 5 or 6 years I was on the job. For most of my 23 years, I worked 4 on with Monday thru Wednesday off. Daylight worked 10 hour shifts and nights 14 hours. I was pretty much steady daylight as the guys who worked nights all had daylight jobs and preferred not to rotate shifts. Towards the end you had the option of working 24's. That would give you 5 days off. Some even worked 48 straight. I tried it and didn't care for that at all. Took me a second 48 hours to recover.
Our shifts were all 2 10 hr days and 2 14 hr nights. I loved that setup. Of course once I moved into a Deputy Chief Position, I worked straight 8 - 5 days with weekends off. On call 24/7 which was a bit of a drag. I can remember sitting in my office in the summer looking out at the beautiful summer days and wishing I'd never gone into administration. Never did get over missing the 10/14 routine.

Morning All,
Currently 28 with an expected high of 55 under mostly sunny skies.
Found a lot, if not all of the boxes that my model railroad stuff had been packed away in. Started to go through them to find some things I was looking for and found stuff I did not remember I had. Three or four building kits, and 2 bb boxcar kits. Never did find what I was really looking for.
Will not get to do much layout work until Wednesday, as I work two closing shifts today and tomorrow. Since my knee feels so much better I hope to get a lot done on the layout Wed.

The weather people insist that the sky is cloudy here right now, but I see mostly blue out there and quite a bit of brightness! Doesn't bother me at all. Currently 21°F with high of 30 later this afternoon. Very seasonable for February here in the Finger Lakes.
Rob, I miss-typed last night, it is Granddaughter #1 who is now in Girl Scouts, and yes she is a real sweetie! last night when I went over for dinner she had me go into her room and she read me a book she bought at school (Book Fair). Reading level for the book is about 3rd. grade and she is a kindergartener. She was able to read most of the words by herself with a bit of help from grandpa on the others.
Mr. D, of course I have milk! I was raised on a dairy farm.... I usually dunk them in my morning coffee though!
Have an installer coming to give me an estimate on replacing the furnace and possibly whole house air this afternoon. The business is less than two blocks away from where I live and has people on call 24 hours a day for emergencies. He has an excellent reputation according to the folks I have asked so even though I will get a couple other estimates, this is the one I will most likely go with.

Good Afternoon!
Petra and I are (nearly) done with the flu and getting back in command of our household. No time to relax, though, as I will be heading up north to my parents tomorrow. As the car is still nor running, I´ll take the train, which means doubling travel time. First, a 15 minute walk to the train station, then a 35 minute ride to Hamburg, where I will be changing trains after a twenty minute wait. Another 100 minutes´ train ride will take me to Schleswig, where I will have to take a bus to my parent´s place. Leaving around 9am, I´ll be arriving at 1pm - a lot of time for a 120 mile trip! Actually, I am looking forward to the train ride.
My Dad will be released from the hospital in a week´s time. As my parents have changed their minds again, I will have to see that the house is ready to receive him by then. He needs an special bed, a special toilet and some fixtures and gadgets in the shower. All the carpets have to be removed to reduce the danger of him tripping and falling. Rails have to be fixed along the walls in the aisle. His current office has to be cleared and furnished for a household help, who will also look after him and my mother. That household help has to be recruited. Most likely a girl from Poland, which will impose a problem of its own. Lots of running around waiting for me!
I still think my parents would be better off in a nursing facility. I can´t picture them having some strange person with them 24/7. Somehow, I have a hunch that I will be hunting for a place in a nursing home pretty soon! Would only be the fourth time within the last 12 months...

Yesterday I was off and no hand sweating, today it is back and I work. I am off Tuesday and I see if they sweat. I am all so going to the VA hospital and will ask about it while I am there.
Going to watch the trains a little while, then off to work.

I still need to get the other E9A, a Pair of U30C's, an SD40-2, a dash 9 and SD70Ace. then I can get some container, coal hoppers, and a ton of other random freight cars.

I had an inhaler that was prescribed to me back in 3rd or 4th grade that was supposed to help me deal with my allergies. However, after having an examination done, the doctors said that I had a dangerous level of a certain chemical in my system. Don't know what the chemical was, but it was in the inhaler that I had been prescribed. As soon as my parents saw that, they had me taken off of it. I had only been put on one once after that, and I didn't use that for long as it hadn't done much to make my life better. We simply got the roots of my allergies out of the house, and that was that.

Really haven't felt like posting much lately. But I'll chime in before they send the MIA crews for me.
I'm thinking what I'll do with the money I'll be getting back for my tax return. I'm thinking splurge some of it on train stuff. Say for instance Walther's 50' coal gons to mix with my MDC thralls, maybe a sound decoder for my SW10, maybe the athearn RTR SD40-2s or Bowser C636 when they come out
Ken, I'd say the trade is close enough to even for it to count as even. I still haven't gotten to installing those wiring harnesses. Work's been picking up as of late so I've had even less time to get to it.
Terry, I like the pic of the BN GP30. I have the same one that i'm modifing to be more accurate.
Jim, IDK of a color scheme book. BN was fairly simple about color schemes except between 1985-1989. That's where all the experimental schemes come from.

Not much going on here. I cleaned my fish tank yesterday and cleaned out the filter better today. Still not working at 100% but its filtering better then it was.No layout work today really, just ran a few trains and added to my "weekend to do list". I start work at another place tomorrow ( after what happen at that last place I quit, not going to go into detail about that )
Maybe this will work out for me, I figure there has to be a job out there for me somewhere right? I have always been a person that stays positive. The good thing is its 7am-3pm. I love day shift as I have always done day shift. The only problem I ever had with day shift is if you don't get a good night sleep you pay for it the next day. Seeing I don't sleep more then 5 hours a night it doesn't really matter
The wife and I were thinking to ourselves the other day when the last time I slept more then 5 hours and straight through the night. The only time I feel really rested is if I fall asleep on the couch in the basement watching the fish. Which is all great when you fall asleep but when you have to pee at 1am you have to lumber up the stairs to the bathroom. I do enjoy watching the fish before I go to sleep kind of replaxes me.
Well enough of me I want to have read over the diner here and I also have a couple things to add to the list. If Im not back on in the morning wish me luck again fellas ( seems Like I ask that alot lately ) and I will see you in the afternoon.

Well I didn't get very much accomplished today. Too busy watching TV and recovering from yesterday. Put the trash out today for collection in the morning. It's been raining most of the day here, light at times and heavy sometimes, plenty of 25-35mph wind gusts. I have a doctor appointment in the morning. Just a general checkup.Time to call it a night. Janie, just a decaf for me right now.
Interesting day today.... The sun shone almost all day nice and bright resulting in a total of 14.45 Kwh of power. Probably just about the same amount as I used today. At one point when I checked the output it was developing 3.2 Kw of power. Best day so far this year. I think I will really like the system as the days get longer, the angle the sun hits the panels improves, and the sun shines more.
The furnace guy came over and found the old furnace is 100,000 BTU! Way more than this little house needed. He figures with the age of the unit it is also about 60 to 70% efficient. He is recommending a 40,000 BTU furnace that is 95% efficient. Cost is right in line with what I have read, and is actually the same furnace I was thinking would be the best for this house. He did all the measuring and calculations, and also was pleased I have lots of insulation and new windows in the place. if i go with him before the end of March, I will get a 10 year cover to cover warranty for both parts and labor. Plus the local power company will give me a $600 rebate for efficiency, and I believe there is a federal tax credit as well. I will know later this week the exact figures.
Only bad thing was that my son called to ask me to watch their dog for a couple days later this week as his wife's great aunt passed away. I believe she was in her 90's. That will put a strict schedule on me for a day and a half as they are also going to be busy with some other things.

Rob ..... The 2-6-6-2 is working fine now. It's mechanism is not as quiet as other recent production steam locomotives, however. It's current train is a sting of empty coal hoppers. When I have a coal mine, it will haul hoppers to and from it.
Ulrich .... Have a safe trip to your parents. Sorry your car is not available to you.
On the layout, I'm continuing to add details to downtown. I spent much of the afternoon under the layout wiring 15 street lamps.
We've been following a very sad story about a young family who are friends with our niece in Nashville. They already have 2 very young daughters. A year ago, their 3rd daughter was born with a tumor in her head. The baby has spent most of the past year in Vanderbilt Children's Hospital. Surgeries have not succeeded in clearing the tumors from her head. A major operation (14 hours) a few months ago was performed to remove a grapefruit sized tumor from her head. Not all could be removed. Adding to the sorrow, the baby has been blind since the operation. More recently, they have learned the tumor is growing again. There is nothing doctors can do. The baby girl will die very soon. It's heartbreaking for the young family. We're praying for the dying baby and her family.

Ran some track cleaning cars today. Not really needed, but there was a couple of spots where I saw the lights dim a little.
Last night I added a few rough ridges to Last Mountain, and they look not to bad as they dry out. Might have to buy a few Cripplebush rocks to give the lower sections a better roughness. I used Gypsolight on it and I like the texture but it just needs more rock castings.
GARRY, Glad you got a "ScenicCruiser" I have one in 1/25 scale but must get one for the layout. Really glad to hear the tests on the old pump were good.
ROB, Asthma has been my companion all my life. For the last several years it has been extremely well controlled by a product called Advair, which is a different type of inhaler. I only take it once a day at bedtime and it holds me well even though the Sawbones says to take it twice a day. He knows I only take it once and he is OK with that.
RAY, I really like the disappearing road. A very nice touch.
BAMA, Glad to see you back, glad the girls are all well. Try to post a little more often if you can.

Well talking about rest, it seems that it is that time of the evening to think about getting horizontal. I am tired as I spent five hours getting some of the snow off our roof this afternoon and then clearing the deck, dog pen, steps and driveway for the ten thousandth time this winter. Some of the snow was about 30 inches deep in some of the roof valleys. Had to break up a lot of ice on the edges as well. We have had temps that have been going up and down very rapidly and that is where the ice build up comes from. It is not for lack of insulation the ceiling of the house is R20 and bagged.(sealed)
I have work tomorrow evening, starting at 4:30pm, so I at least get to sleep in some. We will see how it goes I will certainly peek in the windows after work, but if it isn't too late I may step in for a chat.

Work Front Boy for a Monday it was busy! At this point I am wondering why they made the closing time 8:00 PM, earliest I have gotten out so far is 8:30 PM and only once.
Day Off, well there will not be much of one. I have to be at the VA Hospital Tuesday at 10:30 AM. Sue has decided she wants to go with me, I know what that means! She will want to eat out, and at some places nice. Friday was her and while I had to work I did buy her flowers and gave her some $ as a she did not get a cake. So I have to make that up to her.

Ulrich- I only wish I could take some of your frustration away. What’s the Poland issue? Language? Surely they would send someone who at least speaks German. I thought only The United States hires assistance people who can’t speak the language.
Jeremy- Six hours is an average for me to sleep, but only after the two hour wake up. For some reason I will wake up almost exactly 2 hours after I go to sleep. Go right back to sleep luckily, but regardless of the time I go to sleep, 2hours later……. I have no idea why.
Toasted onion and tomato sandwich…..hm. I’m curious Flo, I’ll take one of those as well please, and a refill on the coffee thanks.

Ok. Power was off from 0630 until 1015 ummmmmm…., yesterday. (chuckle) Idn’t that terrible? Had to think about it for a second. I did go up to the Church to make the deposits ready for today though I couldn’t enter into computer, I made notes so all has to be done is enter next time. Then….I came home and as soon as I walked in the front door, the power came on. Then w**ked on the layout. Yup, sure did. Didn’t do a thing else all day but watch Ziva off and on and eat. Also baked a chicken using some Chinese recipe that was supposed to take like two days prep but I condensed into oh, 20 minute. Hey it was just a chicken. After eating I’ve decided next time...., I’ll try it the way it’s supposed to be done. But I did spend a fare amount of time in the old train room like I said, off and on, cleaning some things up, shifting some things around, looking and wo*king on that bridge WHICH takes a long time to accomplish pretty much nothing. I actually spent most the time on the bridge. Anyway, was pretty relaxing day if you ask me. Brenda even, ready for this…did a couple loads of laundry. Well, not sure if complete, may have left the wash in the washer as per tradition. I’ll check today.
And while we’re on the subject of today, it is my “full day” of w**k as you may recall, so not much in the way of anything fun will I get done between shifts. Hopefully I will get at least a few minutes in the trainroom.

I have printed off all the coupons I will need for tomorrow's grocery shopping. I was thinking of going today, but oh well.
I have to get the paperwork in for the SNAP, always something they need. trouble is I have misplaced a NEEDED piece of paper. SO MOH will have to call Connecticut to get a new one. It shows Our STAR deduction off the property taxes discount we get for that. Actually I can call and find out if the SNAP lady can pull it off the computer?
Then I will wait til then. I think, though that could take days.
well, MOH is off vacuuming, so I'd best get out of the way. Using the broom to get the corners, that is.
Tomorrow there is a Hiring fair at ALDIS MOH is going to go to. Thursday MOH goes to the Employment center and hopefully will have good news! They will help MOH get a job?! I downloaded the resume on a thumb drive for MOH as they want an electronic one. Everybody wants things done on a computer these days, They can talk to someone at a job fair , then tell them to "go home and apply via computer",,whereby the Impression in person one makes is LOST. WhY do they even bother with fairs?!
Well, off I go to finish getting trash out..for collection.

Harumph! Guess what died this morning? Huh? No, no, Blackie is just fine. I now have no main furnace. The burner came loose again overnight and this time it flared out and melted some of the wiring on it. Woke up to a funny smell, quickly got dressed and head down cellar. Furnace was still warm, pulled the front cover and looked around. Discovered some burnt wiring going to one of the controls and shut it completely off, both at switch by the furnace, and at the thermostat. I left a message with the furnace guy and am airing out the house as I type. This time I was very lucky something didn't catch on fire down there!
Have a dentist appointment at 11 this morning, but the rest of the day I have nothing else planned.
Best get my shower taken, give Blackie his pill,and get some breakfast for myself.

Cedar..My stepson in on Advair too, but only as needed, sometimes when he 1st gets up, sometimes at work. Crazy kid, mild asthma, but he works in a body shop and has 2 cats. Things that I always thought asthmatics should stay away from.
Garry. Sad story there. Hopefully there can be a silver lining somehow to that cloud.
Yesterday evenings auction was a blast, even though a bit pricey. Any BB loco was going for $45.00 and up, Atlas $85.00 and up, the killer of the night for me was a Spectrum Heisler for $230.00 However, a buddy of mine also went and got 3 large (3x6 ft) HO display cases, with Lexan doors for $55.00 each. It was strange too, that some stuff was sold individually, some were box lots, and some boxs they would sell 1 or 2 nice items out of the lot, the the remainder of the lot was auctions off as a lot. You really had to stay on your toes! So 5 hours and 137 bucks later, I got mine. But because of the box lots, I did not bid on the Varney or Tyco stuff,,, it just came with the Atlas caboose. Oddly enough, the Varney car is still sealed. Might find its way to ebay that way. And yes, I did bid intentionally on the NASCAR stuff. The 29 for me, the 88 for SWMBO!
