Good morning. It's 31° with 100% humidity and patchy fog. It'll be sunny with a high of 62°.Well I looked outside and it is indeed foggy. That thick cut-it-with-a-knife, feel-your-way-with-a-toothpick type of fog and from what I can see it is indeed patchy, one big patch!I should be getting some items in the mail today and hopefully a certain package from Canada. With this stuff I'll be able to work on some more projects.No particular plans for today. I should be able to do some more vacuuming on the layout provided that I'm not interrupted.

I think BOS or Congress is running my water department now. I finally made an appointment to get the meter changed out on the 25th. Tons of people are getting their water shut off for not paying their bills. The valves are so old in town that to turn the water off the city has to replace the valve first. So I’m thinking they are installing a electronic shut off to save money…..
Feeling as if I’m getting the flu, but not bad enough to miss work. Just run down and not very motivated. Last night I took some OTC meds and lay down for an hour before the train club meeting. Got up and it felt chilly in the house. Figured out the furnace stopped working. I checked the normal stuff then called the repair guy. He stopped over right away; the bottom panel vibrated loose and wasn’t holding the safety button in far enough for the furnace to run. No charge for the service fee……

I thought this was gonna be my last day on earth. Wifey woke me up with a valentines day with a card, a cup of coffee a Bavarian creme donut and 3, yes 3 boxes of candy! I looked into her eyes and said "Dear, you DO remember that I'm diabetic, right?" "Of Course I do" she replied as she gave me a peck on the cheek and went to feed the cats. Well I ate the donut, I'll sneak the candies off to the grandkids.
But as a Valentines day treat, I;ll pass this along. I think a few of us have been here before!

Not a whole lot new from around here. As usual we went railfanning this past Sunday and caught 3 intermodal, 3 mixed freight, and an empty trash train in 2 hours. I guess we are becoming a fixture at our usual spot. Even the police are giving us a little wave as they drive on past.
Visited my long time neighbor and friend who is back in the hospital on Tuesday. After retiring 5 or 6 years ago, his health rapidly declined. He has been on oxygen for about 4 years and seems to catch every bug that comes around. So he's in and out of the hospital quite often. He was admitted once again in mid-December and since then has bounced back and forth between the hospital and a nursing/rehabilitation center. He was hoping to be home in time for their 50th wedding anniversary later this month, but I don't think that will happen. I'm sure they will both be seriously disappointed that they won't be able to celebrate at home. I haven't been able to visit him as often as i would like lately as the nursing center he was at was restricting visits due to the flu that was going around. Then I was fighting off something for 2 or 3 weeks. So I didn't want to pass along any germs or get them either.
I'm going to take the wife out to an early dinner this evening as a Valentine gift. Got to stay in her good graces you know. After dinner we have to make a stop at a funeral home for a visitation. My cousin's mother-in-law passed at the good old age of 90. We never met her, but her obituary states she was very active in church and several other charities.
Have a nice coating of ice on the walks and driveway this morning, but I threw some calcium chloride around and it seems to be taking care of that problem. Everybody take care and have a good one.

ROB, are you finished the chores already ? How is the tooth doing ? Sure hope the pain is gone.
Not much happening here today,,, so far. MOH is still sleeping. I know she was having a problem last night with some "Gerd" and didn't get to sleep until late. So I won't disturb her for awhile.
If it goes as I think it might, it might be a day of throwing some things out to start to get rid of some clutter.
If I get to the railroad, I will probably work on preparing the river channel that I chickened out on before. Think I'm ready to tackle that now.
Anyway that's all from the "Great White North" and it really is this morning as there was another 4 inches of white stuff overnight. OH YEAH, you see, that is what happens, There is more snow to move before anything else gets done.
A very "Happy Valentine's Day" to all and especially your Wives, Girlfriends, Lovers, Others and Mothers.

Lets see now, have to take MOH to the dentist for a root canal this morning so that will take a couple of hours. I'll do some reading while she's in the torture chamber. That and have my wallet out to be pillaged when she's done.
The Kitchen painting project is progressing slowly. Covering up dark brown with light yellow is a challenge even if the paint does have "the primer built in". Maybe get the second coat on this afternoon.
What with appointments, running for food and supplies for painting, not much is going on down in the RR room. Oh well, variety is good too... I think

I went to Wally world, The grocery store and Aldi's {another store brands only at a discount grocery store for those unfamiliar}.
While i was out, naturally the lady for for food stamps called for the phone interview, naturally, of course. She is hopefully calling back? Maybe by next week she will. Hopefully. I left a message. MOH didn't get the name right, of course, "I was caught off guard" was the excuse....I told MOH to be looking out for just such a phone call!!! The secretary hopefully hooked me up to the correct voice mail message.
We applied again as with MOH on unenjoyment, we should get at least some? Naturally she had to call while i was out. Was gonna wait til to grocery shop when we found out, but the fridge, pantry shelf and cupboard shelf and freezers are about empty. time to stock up, and take some money form the gas money {which needs filling up too} to buy food. Out comes the CC for a little help. IT will take the next week's Unenjoyment check to pay for all i bought today...and I need gas...almost down 3/4 of a tank! That takes care of the NEXT weeks after next week's unenjoyment check.
Now watch- we will get a monthly amount equal to 4 times what i spent today....
NOw my back, knee and hip are screaming Jeffrey's insults at me heavily!
Oh well off to a treasured piece of blueberry pie -- for Valentines day,,, sounded better than cherry, but maybe i should have gotten the RED cherry pie instead?
Now to go lie down after I take a pain pill....

I have a couple cards for my granddaughters and couple dozen butterscotch Toll House Cookies for the family to share. My son will be picking the stuff up on his way home from w*rk this evening (and hopefully delivering some stuff that belongs to me and has been sitting at his house for a couple months).

Sun just peeked out from behind a cloud for a while. yesterday turned out to be a good one for generating electric. Got the second highest yeild so far this year. Meter down cellar said it had produced10.64 Kws yesterday. If today and tomorrow are as predicted by the weather guessers, it will already have produced more in February than It did all January. Come-on sunshine!

Have to get some materials out and check over who has done what on the Railroading Merit Badge as I will be working with 3 Scouts tonight on it over at the handicapped troop.

Got my two Atlas FP7's today. They're 70's era. One is UP 912, the other is BN 9794. The BN loco runs fine. The UP however has a problem. On the front truck there are two fingers that hold the truck onto the frame, or should I say there would be if they weren't broken off. I got this loco AS-IS with NO warranty stated or implied. So went on Ebay and grabbed one in fair condition for $20 to use as a parts source. The UP unit is also missing the coupler retainer pins and a horn.Currently the BN unit has horn hook couplers. That's about to change so fast. It's getting a pair of Kadee #148 Whisker couplers.The mailbox was like the 'horn of plenty' today spewing forth all kinds of good things, expected and unexpected.
I got three tank cars, two which need some attention. A Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers lapel pin. Two video cassettes. One titled 'Thunder on the rails', the other is about Grand Central Terminal. I also got a box from Canada which I haven't ripped into yet.
Coffee refill, please.

Time to go start making a RR-tie base to hold a bunch of very large 5'-6' logs off the ground where they will cure until next winter, at which time they will become firewood. Except the pine logs, which will probably cure for 2 years. Always enjoyable using the Little Beast with grapple.
In the box from Canada I found among other things four locos. A Tyco 2-8-0 Consolidation. The motor (tender drive) looks to be hopeless. Another steamer, a Lima 0-4-0t would probably run well with the right care. It'll look good on one of my shelves. A third loco, also a Lima model is a Plymouth switcher CN #76. It seems to have some pickup issues. It wouldn't do well on anything less than code 100 track anyway. It has pizza cutters that can handle the thickest Pizza Hut has. There's also this Lima diesel, CN 3220. It somewhat runs. It would probably run quite well after a thorough cleaning. However I'm more interested in seeing if I can adapt the shell to fit a better quality chassis.

Guys! the DCC bug has bitten me, I've been looking at dual mode decoders with sound for my N scale locos but they're $100 a piece I'll have to start with my DCC ready locos before my non DCC ready's and I'll have to have someone install them too if I decide to switch.

Looks to me like the Sundown shops are going to be humming along for a while Jeffrey I can only imagine what you'll come up with this time but knowing you it will be ah different. Now that you've gotten all this stuff, the layout clean up will probably go on hold for a while.

Returned from Nashville last night. Shelley's Mom is recovering okay from her heart operation. She's talking a lot (normal for her). Remarkable what doctors can do. She's in he upper 80's.
Spent the day catching up with non-railroad stuff.

Evening All,
MOH did not want to go out for dinner so I picked up Chinese for supper. Ran errands today, vacuumed the floors, and modified my mountain and made an additional smaller hill. MOH made the suggestion that it would make the new ones flow into the finished hills and look more realistic. As usual she was right after I spent some time looking at it.
Tomorrow I hope to plaster the mountain and hill. If I get that done I will paint the plaster on Saturday and I will get the ground cover on them next week.
It's been raining on and off all day as the next cold front comes through. The highs will be in the 60's until Tuesday I believe.
