I clean the tank and change the water weekly. Goldfish can be very messy and so the filters need constant cleaning. I belong to aquarium forum and they also say to do what Im doing and it makes for a nice looking aquarium. There is alot of waste that comes from goldfish.

Golden Carp and other fish termed as gold fish do tend to be quite messy. I used to have quite a lot of them at one point. After a while I switched to red fin sharks and fiddler crabs. You gotta have the top of the aquarium closed up real good to keep those crabs from getting out. If there's a hole they'll find it.

*

It's gonna be cool tonight (38) and there's a fiar chance of rain tomorrow.

Time for me to call it a night. See y;all tomorrow.

Jeremy So what are you doing at the new job? Glad you like it so far! On the Aquarium, for some reason this has gotten under my skin for some reason? Whistling Why are you cleaning it so much and what are you cleaning out? Is it fish poop, none eaten food, alga or just because you where told you had to clean it every few weeks? A 29 gallon tank should support 29 inches of fish, how many fish do you have in the tank?

I belong to aquarium forum and they also say to do what Im doing and it makes for a nice looking aquarium. There is alot of waste that comes from goldfish. I don't know what fish you have? but mine are messy little things. It shouldn't get under your skin though as its my tank to clean.

Here is a good link on goldfish care

http://www.aquaticcommunity.com/aquariumforum/showthread.php?t=23740

as you can see in the article also they recommend 25-50% per water change weekly depending on water tests. When my nitrates start climbing its time for a change.  My Local fish store also says the same. You cant argue with the tests right? How often do you clean your tanks? my water is crystal clear with nitrates at 15ppm and nitrites at 0

I should also mention Ken that my goldfish are in a smaller aquarium then what they should be, thats one of the reasons I have to stay on top of it so much Stick out tongue

 Evening Folks!

 Flo, Beer Pleases!

VA Hospital Visit Well, I am 99.9% sure Sue won't want to go again.Hmm My normal waiting time is 10 to 15 minutes after check in, lot of times much faster! Today, waited 1 and a half hours to be seen. I knew it was going to be a long wait when I over heard my Foot Ulcer PA fighting with the Nurse in charge of the ward!

Well it seems I was right, the PA was very pleased with the way the toe is healing! In fact, she is so pleased she wants to do a skin graft in the next 2 to 3 weeks! Cool That way the wound will be completely closed! Cool

I asked her "how soon after the graft can I go back to work"? Answer was "3 to 4 weeks"! Bang Head I am at a little lost what to do at this point? I will say I would be happy to be away from the job for a month, give me some time to look for another job. Plus I will get some paid time off with being there for 70 weeks now.  But then again, it won't be as much as I am making now either. Then there is the whole BoS thing that is going on as well!

Vince any ET on getting the engines to me? Whistling Like I should be rushing you! Embarrassed Only took me what, 3 months to get the deal done? Bang Head They are my Gift to my self, well and from you. Yep my Happy B-Day rolls around again on the 24th of this month.

Train Front Running a unlikely consist, my MRC F7 A's seemed to need a tad of help. So I added a pair or Erie Built A and B to the consist. Pulling 40 cars like it was nothing, but then again the Erie's could do that on there own. But, looks Cool

See you all after work Wednesday!

Back from Williamsport, things are looking good with Penn Tech.

Placement test results are in. Tested at Level 4, which basically means that I am at college level math. However, because I didn't test at Level 7 (which is Calculus), and I'm looking to go into Civil Engineering, I'll need to take some courses before starting the Calculus course. It's not a bad thing since where I tested is where most people test, about 70%. Only a few people test at Level 7 (about 10%).

Under normal situations, this would mean that I would have to push the classes back by a year unless I take summer courses, but because of how the Civil Engineering course is set up, that won't be a problem. Lots of room in the eighth semester, and two open slots during the third and fourth semesters.

Afternoon folks!

Chloe, I'll have a cup of hot chocolate and some Girl Scout Cookies, those thin mint thingies would be nice...

I have returned from the Dentist...  One less hole in my head I guess.  He works quickly and painlessly and has a great sense of humor.  He is also an Eagle Scout and the Committee Chair for my old Troop.  Next appointment for another filling and a crown (adjacent teeth) is in two weeks.

The HVAC guy was here a while ago as well.  He called to let me know he has a couple emergencies and would be at my house in about 20 minutes.  A half hour latter he wasn't here.  I waited a few minutes more and his truck pulls in the driveway.  He gets out and is followed by a wizened old guy that looked to be in his 80's...  They grab a box of tools and come in the house.  He was late because he decided to go and bring his dad with him as he knows furnaces the vintage of mine much better than he does and was hoping he might have an idea how to get it up and working!  I told them both I thought the furnace is now beyond repair, but I would like him to check and make sure nothing is going to cause any more problems.  He, his dad, and I proceed down cellar.  He kneels down and takes one look at the wiring, his eyes got very wide and he say's, "OH MY GOD!"  He can't unhook the gas from the old furnace as shutting it off will cut the gas from the other two units.  He did remove the thermocouple to prevent it from somehow trying to fire anything.

He told me he contacted his supplier and was told I would be better off with a 60,000 BTU model rather than the 40,000 BTU.  I asked what the difference in cost would be expecting a bait and switch routine.  He says not that much more, no problem, the quote I gave you is still good.  He also is a rare type that will still do business with a smile and a handshake.  The new furnace will be ordered this afternoon, I should have a contract to sign by tomorrow and since he will on vacation for a week the unit will be installed the first week of March.  He even offered to loan me a couple portable electric heaters.  I thanked him but told him I have two usable electric heaters of my own.  One more reason I like doing business with smaller local businesses!

Currently 39°F outside, the only heat is coming from my wood stove (which is almost shut down) and it is 73°F in the other end of the house from the wood stove....  I think I should survive just fine 'till the first week of March.

OK, now I can go do some modeling stuff!

Ray we had our furnace and ac replaced last year. We really notice a difference in cost saving's with the gas and Hydro.

Well it was a good day today at work, I actually really enjoy it there. My supervisor told me I did a good job so that's a good. The day flew by too so I hope there all like that. I do enjoy being home by 3:45 too.

Coffee refill, please.

Found a new farm hand to try out, hopefully tomorrow. He's the son of one of the volunteer firefighters (several brothers) who run my go-to feed store. Should be a good worker. Sure do need the help right now.

Got the appointment and the needle sticking done. Had to get my vitamin D level checked. I've been on Vitamin D gel caps for about two months so hopefully it's up to a good level. When they checked before it was at 13 which is seriously deficient, supposed to be around 50-100.

How will people use rail transit?

Rail transit will be used to commute to and from work, and school; to go to shopping malls, the airport, and entertainment venues such as Aloha Stadium.

The train hours of operation will be from 4:00 AM-12:00 AM. During peak travel times in the morning and afternoon, trains will arrive every three minutes and every six minutes during off-peak time. At low travel times, trains will come every 10 minutes.

The route is 20 miles from  East Kapolei with 21 stations and connects with the Honolulu International Airport and downtown Honolulu and ends at Ala Moana Center. HERE:

http://www.honolulutransit.org/media/21086/bg-map.jpg

It is Estimated at 116,300 weekday passenger trips by year 2030 !!!

  • It will be constructed of the Modern, steel-wheel-on-steel-rail technology powered by a third rail and Elevated, grade-separated.

Italian roast coffee in a SOGGY SOUTHERN mug, please.

***Ray, sure am glad to hear that furnace didn't get any more carried away. Yikes!

***Johnboy, I can use an albuterol inhaler without interfering with the MP which is the treatment for sarcoidosis I am on. Steroidal inhalers and even the new "wonder" asthma drugs I need to avoid. Still have not gone to the albuterol yet, but at least I have it just incase.

Been thinking a lot about the future HO layout expansion. That's about it, just "thinking a lot". Will need to get better health-wise to really get much work done on it. Wonder how long a wait there will actually be for pre-ordered BLI, Walthers and MTH locos?

Have a good day all. Healing thoughts to those in need.

Cheers! Cowboy Rob

Morning Gang! Cowboy

Flo, can i get some sausage gravy over biscuits, and a side of bacon and coffee, coffee, coffee!! I know I said yesterday, "Film at 11", but it was 1:30 before I saw the bed last night. The auction ran a bit long, more on that later.

Ulrich, did you "borrow" your parents car?Question

Ray, scenery looks very good, cant wait to see it done. But don't burn the house down in the meantime! Surprise

Todd, Ribs for breakfast? Might have to try that sometimeHmm

Cedar..My stepson in on Advair too, but only as needed, sometimes when he 1st gets up, sometimes at work. Crazy kid, mild asthma, but he works in a body shop and has 2 cats. Things that I always thought asthmatics should stay away from. Hmm

Garry. Sad story there. Hopefully there can be a silver lining somehow to that cloud.Sad

Yesterday evenings auction was a blast, even though a bit pricey. Any BB loco was going for $45.00 and up, Atlas $85.00 and up, the killer of the night for me was a Spectrum Heisler for $230.00 Surprise However, a buddy of mine also went and got 3 large (3x6 ft) HO display cases, with Lexan doors for $55.00 each. It was strange too, that some stuff was sold individually, some were box lots, and some boxs they would sell  1 or 2 nice items out of the lot, the the remainder of the lot was auctions off as a lot. You really had to stay on your toes! So 5 hours and 137 bucks later, I got mine. But because of the box lots, I did not bid on the Varney or Tyco stuff,,, it just came with the Atlas caboose. Oddly enough, the Varney car is still sealed. Might find its way to ebay that way. And yes, I did bid intentionally on the NASCAR stuff. The 29 for me, the 88 for SWMBO!

Cya all later!

Karl

Mornin'........ Grumpy

Zoe, coffee!  Coffee, dark roast, in a mug...  Oh Please and thank you, Ma'am....

Harumph!  Guess what died this morning?  Huh?  No, no, Blackie is just fine.  I now have no main furnace.  The burner came loose again overnight and this time it flared out and melted some of the wiring on it.  Woke up to a funny smell, quickly got dressed and head down cellar.  Furnace was still warm, pulled the front cover and looked around.  Discovered some burnt wiring going to one of the controls and shut it completely off, both at switch by the furnace, and at the thermostat.  I left a message with the furnace guy and am airing out the house as I type.  This time I was very lucky something didn't catch on fire down there!

Have a dentist appointment at 11 this morning, but the rest of the day I have nothing else planned.

Best get my shower taken, give Blackie his pill, and get some breakfast for myself.

Later!

Well,

I almost forgot to post my morning greeting today!

I have printed off all the coupons I will need for tomorrow's grocery shopping. I was thinking of going today, but oh well.

I have to get the paperwork in for the SNAP, always something they need. trouble is I have misplaced a NEEDED piece of paper. SO MOH will have to call Connecticut to get a new one. It shows Our STAR deduction off the property taxes discount we get for that. Actually I can call and find out if the SNAP lady can pull it off the computer?

Then I will wait til then. I think, though that could take days.

well, MOH is off vacuuming, so I'd best get out of the way. Using the broom to get the corners, that is.

Tomorrow there is  a Hiring fair at ALDIS MOH is going to go to. Thursday MOH goes to the Employment center and hopefully will have good news! They will help MOH get a job?! I downloaded the resume on a thumb drive for MOH as they want an electronic one. Everybody wants things done on a computer these days, They can talk to someone at a job fair , then tell them to "go home and apply via computer",,whereby the Impression in person one makes is LOST. WhY do they even bother with fairs?!

Well, off I go to finish getting trash out..for collection.

Good Morning!!!

Coffee and a rack of ribs, some potato salad and some wet wipes please. I’m a fixin to get messy!! Thank you.

Ulrich- I only wish I could take some of your frustration away. What’s the Poland issue? Language? Surely they would send someone who at least speaks German. I thought only The United States hires assistance people who can’t speak the language.Whistling

Jeremy- Six hours is an average for me to sleep, but only after the two hour wake up. For some reason I will wake up almost exactly 2 hours after I go to sleep. Go right back to sleep luckily, but regardless of the time I go to sleep, 2hours later……. I have no idea why.

Toasted onion and tomato sandwich…..hm. I’m curious Flo, I’ll take one of those as well please, and a refill on the coffee thanks.Dinner

Ken- wish Sue a Happy Birthday.

Ok. Power was off from 0630 until 1015 ummmmmm….Hmm, yesterday. (chuckle) Idn’t that terrible? Had to think about it for a secondLaugh. I did go up to the Church to make the deposits ready for today though I couldn’t enter into computer, I made notes so all has to be done is enter next time. Then….I came home and as soon as I walked in the front door, the power came on. Then w**ked on the layout. Yup, sure did. Didn’t do a thing else all day but watch Ziva off and on and eat. Also baked a chicken using some Chinese recipe that was supposed to take like two days prep but I condensed into oh, 20 minuteChef. Hey it was just a chicken. After eating I’ve decided next time...., I’ll try it the way it’s supposed to be doneWhistling. But I did spend a fare amount of time in the old train room like I said, off and on, cleaning some things up, shifting some things around, looking and wo*king on that bridgeYes WHICH takes a long time to accomplish pretty much nothing. I actually spent most the time on the bridge. Anyway, was pretty relaxing day if you ask me. Brenda even, ready for this…did a couple loads of laundrySurprise. Well, not sure if complete, may have left the wash in the washer as per tradition. I’ll check today.

And while we’re on the subject of today, it is my “full day” of w**k as you may recall, so not much in the way of anything fun will I get done between shifts. Hopefully I will get at least a few minutes in the trainroom.

Ya’ll have a good day, ya hear!!!!

I'll be heading into town in a couple of hours to a doctor appointment. Just a regular checkup. No plans for later today. I may get some layout work in if I feel like it.

 Evening Folks

Flo, Beer pleases and I will buy one for Vince's as well.

Work Front Boy for a Monday it was busy! At this point I am wondering why they made the closing time 8:00 PM, earliest I have gotten out so far is 8:30 PM and only once.

Day Off, well there will not be much of one. I have to be at the VA Hospital Tuesday at 10:30 AM. Sue has decided she wants to go with me, I know what that means! Dinner She will want to eat out, and at some places nice. Friday was her Cake and while I had to work I did buy her flowers and gave her some $ as a Gift she did not get a cake. So I have to make that up to her.

Packer
Ken, I'd say the trade is close enough to even for it to count as even. I still haven't gotten to installing those wiring harnesses. Work's been picking up as of late so I've had even less time to get to it.

Best news I have heard in 4 weeks Vince's! Surprise (well more likely this year Whistling) Been working my F units butts off!  Hope you enjoy the SD40-2!

 See you all later.

Whistling

Hi Chloe,  seems like it is a quiet night here in the Diner,

I'm fine, thanks for asking.. Please, if you will, draw me an HC. and a toasted tomato and onion sandwich.  That should put my dreams into "Technicolor" tonight.

Ran some track cleaning cars today. Not really needed, but there was a couple of spots where I saw the lights dim a little.

Last night I added a few rough ridges to Last Mountain, and they look not to bad as they dry out. Might have to buy a few Cripplebush rocks to give the lower sections a better roughness.  I used Gypsolight on it and I like the texture but it just needs more rock castings.

GARRY,  Glad you got a "ScenicCruiser" I have one in 1/25 scale but must get one for the layout. Really glad to hear the tests on the old pump were good.

ROB,  Asthma has been my companion all my life. For the last several years it has been extremely well controlled by a product called Advair, which is a different type of inhaler. I only take it once a day at bedtime and it holds me well even though the Sawbones says to take it twice a day.  He knows I only take it once and he is OK with that.

RAY, I really like the disappearing road. A very nice touch.

BAMA,  Glad to see you back, glad the girls are all well. Try to post a little more often if you can.

ULRICH,  Enjoy the train ride and I hope all goes well for you in getting your parents settled in.  Stay healthy my friend.

BARRY,  You as well old Buddy, get lots of rest and eat your veggies like a good boy and stay healthy as well.

Well talking about rest, it seems that it is that time of the evening to think about getting horizontal. I am tired as I spent five hours getting some of the snow off our roof this afternoon and then clearing the deck, dog pen, steps and driveway for the ten thousandth time this winter.  Some of the snow was about 30 inches deep in some of the roof valleys. Had to break up a lot of ice on the edges as well. We have had temps that have been going up and down very rapidly and that is where the ice build up comes from. It is not for lack of insulation the ceiling of the house is R20 and bagged.(sealed)

I have work tomorrow evening, starting at 4:30pm, so I at least get to sleep in some. We will see how it goes I will certainly peek in the windows after work, but if it isn't too late I may step in for a chat.

Night all, sweet railroad dreams.

Mr. D, of course I have milk!  I was raised on a dairy farm.... Smile, Wink & Grin  I usually dunk them in my morning coffee though!

Holy Cow!

Good evening everybody .....

Ray .... Nice job so far with the scenery.

Rob ..... The 2-6-6-2 is working fine now. It's mechanism is not as quiet as other recent production steam locomotives, however.  It's current train is a sting of empty coal hoppers. When I have a coal mine, it will haul hoppers to and from it.

Ulrich .... Have a safe trip to your parents. Sorry your car is not available to you.

On the layout, I'm continuing to add details to downtown. I spent much of the afternoon under the layout wiring 15 street lamps.

We've been following a very sad story about a young family who are friends with our niece in Nashville. They already have 2 very young daughters. A year ago, their 3rd daughter was born with a tumor in her head. The baby has spent most of the past year in  Vanderbilt Children's Hospital. Surgeries have not succeeded in clearing the tumors from her head. A major operation (14 hours)  a few months ago was performed to remove a grapefruit sized tumor from her head. Not all could be removed. Adding to the sorrow, the baby has been blind since the operation. More recently, they have learned the tumor is growing again. There is nothing doctors can do. The baby girl will die very soon. It's heartbreaking for the young family. We're praying for the dying baby and her family.

Evenin' folks!

Janie, just a decaf for me right now.

Interesting day today....  The sun shone almost all day nice and bright resulting in a total of 14.45 Kwh of power.  Probably just about the same amount as I used today.  At one point when I checked the output it was developing 3.2 Kw of power.  Best day so far this year.  I think I will really like the system as the days get longer, the angle the sun hits the panels improves, and the sun shines more.

The furnace guy came over and found the old furnace is 100,000 BTU!  Way more than this little house needed.  He figures with the age of the unit it is also about 60 to 70% efficient.  He is recommending a 40,000 BTU furnace that is 95% efficient.  Cost is right in line with what I have read, and is actually the same furnace I was thinking would be the best for this house.  He did all the measuring and calculations, and also was pleased I have lots of insulation and new windows in the place.  if i go with him before the end of March, I will get a 10 year cover to cover warranty for both parts and labor.  Plus the local power company will give me a $600 rebate for efficiency, and I believe there is a federal tax credit as well.  I will know later this week the exact figures.

Only bad thing was that my son called to ask me to watch their dog for a couple days later this week as his wife's great aunt passed away.  I believe she was in her 90's.  That will put a strict schedule on me for a day and a half as they are also going to be busy with some other things.

Got quite a bit done on the scenery module today:

I put more in the WPF thread.

Jeffrey, thanks for reminding me...  I also have to put out the trask before bed tonight, so I best get moving!

Prayers for all in need.

Well I didn't get very much accomplished today. Too busy watching TV and recovering from yesterday. Put the trash out today for collection in the morning. It's been raining most of the day here, light at times and heavy sometimes, plenty of 25-35mph wind gusts. I have a doctor appointment in the morning. Just a general checkup.

Time to call it a night. See y'all tomorrow.

Hi Guys,

Not much going on here. I cleaned my fish tank yesterday and cleaned out the filter better today. Still not working at 100% but its filtering better then it was.No layout work today really, just ran a few trains and added to my "weekend to do list". I start work at another place tomorrow ( after what happen at that last place I quit, not going to go into detail about that )

Maybe this will work out for me, I figure there has to be a job out there for me somewhere right? I have always been a person that stays positive. The good thing is its 7am-3pm. I love day shift as I have always done day shift. The only problem I ever had with day shift is if you don't get a good night sleep you pay for it the next day. Seeing I don't sleep more then 5 hours a night it doesn't really matter

The wife and I were thinking to ourselves the other day  when the last time I slept more then 5 hours and straight through the night. The only time I feel really rested is if I fall asleep on the couch in the basement watching the fish. Which is all great when you fall asleep but when you have to pee at 1am you have to lumber up the stairs to the bathroom. I do enjoy watching the fish before I go to sleep kind of replaxes me.

Well enough of me I want to have read over the diner here and I also have a couple things to add to the list. If Im not back on in the morning wish me luck again fellas ( seems Like I ask that alot lately ) and I will see you in the afternoon.

Afternoon guys

Really haven't felt like posting much lately. But I'll chime in before they send the MIA crews for me.

I'm thinking what I'll do with the money I'll be getting back for my tax return. I'm thinking splurge some of it on train stuff. Say for instance Walther's 50' coal gons to mix with my MDC thralls, maybe a sound decoder for my SW10, maybe the athearn RTR SD40-2s or Bowser C636 when they come out

Ken, I'd say the trade is close enough to even for it to count as even. I still haven't gotten to installing those wiring harnesses. Work's been picking up as of late so I've had even less time to get to it.

Terry, I like the pic of the BN GP30. I have the same one that i'm modifing to be more accurate.

Jim, IDK of a color scheme book. BN was fairly simple about color schemes except between 1985-1989. That's where all the experimental schemes come from.

Vincent

Wants: 1. high-quality, sound equipped, SD40-2s, C636s, C30-7s, and F-units in BN. As for ones that don't cost an arm and a leg, that's out of the question....

2. An end to the limited-production and other crap that makes models harder to get and more expensive.

Cederstrand
Had what I can only describe as a minor astha attack walking across the front pasture today, and I do not have asthma. Perhaps I should carry that inhaler Ithat was prescribed, just incase.

I had an inhaler that was prescribed to me back in 3rd or 4th grade that was supposed to help me deal with my allergies. However, after having an examination done, the doctors said that I had a dangerous level of a certain chemical in my system. Don't know what the chemical was, but it was in the inhaler that I had been prescribed. As soon as my parents saw that, they had me taken off of it. I had only been put on one once after that, and I didn't use that for long as it hadn't done much to make my life better. We simply got the roots of my allergies out of the house, and that was that.

Coffee refill, please.

***Garry, how did that Mantua 2-6-6-2 work out? Is it running well?
