KEN-
LISTEN VERY CAREFULLY-
GET THEE TO A HOSPITAL, NOT A CLINIC, NOT A GENERAL PHYSICIAN, NOT THE VA CLINIC, BUT A HOSPITAL!!!
GET to the CLOSEST HOSPITAL, or you may NOT stick around with all your limbs and toes!!!
THE DOCTOR at your "Anderson Center" TOLD you to go to the hospital!!! GO THERE IMMEDIATELY!
I have lit a special prayer candle for you KEN....let it be used wisely! BUT Prayers alone will NOT DO IT, YOU MUST GET TO THE HOSPITAL!!!
And, like Jeffrey, I, with special long list of medical problems, can tell you, you NEED TO GO WHERE you can get the HELP you NEED!!!
GO TO THE HOSPITAL- THEY CAN CALL IN SPECIALISTS FOR YOU!!!
If YOU are worried about a bill..ask to see the PATIENT FINANCIAL ADVOCATE...they will HELP YOU AND NEGOTIATE THE HOSPITAL'S BILL FOR YOU! THEY WORK FOR THE PATIENT, NOT THE HOSPITAL!!!

jeffrey-wimberly Ken: You really need to get that looked at by a doctor who handles such things, not a clinic that doesn't have the capabilities to handle problems like yours. That's almost taking your car to a cabinet salesman for repairs. My primary doctor handles my overall health but my foot problems are handled by a specialist who knows exactly what he's looking at. It was a general practitioner who misdiagnosed my problems in their early stages that sent things so way out of control.

I agree with Jeff.........get a specialist to take a look at whats going on..........what you did was like going to the dentist for a colonoscopy .....................although some might say in my case it would be the same thing

Evening Dinners!
Yes Vinnie, here is my Dr Note.
Flo, and a antibiotic chaser pleases.
Infection Front, I went this morning to Anderson Express care and was looked at.When I was filling out the paper work on what was wrong with me I listed the ulcer, leg pain plus I have a cold. Seems all they saw was cold / flue, nurse was in for a shook when I pulled my shoe off!
Toe was bright red and purple, top of my foot was red and some red on the leg. All so have some very tender spots on the front of the calf and on the side.
Doctor came in and all I really got out of it was Express Care has very limited ability's and next time I should go to the Hospital it self. He gave me 2 scripts for different antibiotic's and sent me on my way. Never told me what kind of infection I had or if it might have been blood poisoning.
So as far as I know, I will be sticking around a while longer with all my limbs and toes.
All so Dinners, thank you for the outpouring of concern.
Now if Simon had some luck on my EM 1 quest, this could be a halfway good day.
Ken
I hate Rust
Afternoon guys
Been busy helping my dad with my brother's car. Got the window and window track out of the door. It wouldn't go all the way up and I found out why. The teeth on the metal arm (the one the gear on the window motor engages) had some teeth wore off. Junkyard time I guess... Also changed the rear bumper (instead of "Mustang" it says "Cobra") and messed with a few other odds and ends. He figured out why the clutch got stuck, the weight on the clutch arm had broke off and wedged itself in a way that the arm was stuck with the clutch engaged.
While I was outside I re-primed the F-units from earlier. I think I got the mold lines out of the way. However the Rustoleum automotive primer I used leaves a fuzz that has to be scrubbed off with a stiff brush. I also painted part of the 3 Bachmann cabooses I have with yellow paint. Then comes the green and then the silver. I think from now on I'll just cough up the extra money for the SEM self-etching primer. That was some really good stuff (goes on smooth, dries fast, and is durable), but at 8 bucks a can I'd better be careful not to waste it.
Terry, I'm right there with you. Go Pack!!!
Ken, Hope everything is OK with the foot/leg issue.
Vincent
Wants: 1. high-quality, sound equipped, SD40-2s, C636s, C30-7s, and F-units in BN. As for ones that don't cost an arm and a leg, that's out of the question....
2. An end to the limited-production and other crap that makes models harder to get and more expensive.
Good Saturday afternoon!
20f ,cloudy and blustery. Cold front almost here, thanks you guys NOTB!
Train day again today. Mostly fixing/improving little things that have been bugging me. Finishing little projects, etc.Nothing major and a local is running the layout. I'm awaiting a delivery from Becker's MRR Supply( my not-so-local hobby shop). 2 Bulk packs IM wheelsets and a bunch of KD's.
Thanks for the update on Ken,Simon!

jeffrey-wimberlyEDIT: OK, I see Simon posted while I was typing up my post. Good to know that he's going. You know, that's probably the reason he's been feeling like crap lately.
I hope he hasn't waited to long to save his toe, foot, and/or leg...! Jeffrey, I think you are right on the money.
I'm sitting here waiting for a lady to drop off a check for the MLK Scholarship fund. I expect it will be a large one!
Currently 50°F under partly skies this morning. So far we have been getting mostly the Cloudy side of the "partly", but the rest of the ice and snow should be gone from the roof by this afternoon. I will need to checking the sump pump down cellar to make sure water is flowing into it and not backed up behind the steps of the outside steps to the basement (and then running all over the floor and not into the sump...). wouldn't surprise me to get some water in the train room as well since the ice dam on the back roof has been dripping outside the foundation.
Best keep moving... Lots of stuff to get done today!
Prayers especially for Ken! Later!

Thanks for that Garry,
I had almost 35 years with the Hound, and it was a great Company earlier on. But, what they have done to it the last 15 to 20 years is a bloody disgrace. We who are still living are sick about it and those who have passed on will be restless in their graves as this is not the standard of service that we held ourselves too and that the Company met as well for many years. It is so sad to see a great Icon go the way it has. I could tell you stories of disastrous moves the management made and we would still be here at midnight. It all started with the sale to Laidlaw and then to First Bus. Neither of these companies had any real interest in over the road bus service. --- and we'll leave it there.
But thanks for the picture. I never drove one of those Yellow Coaches (MFG) but my father did. He had 21 years in before I started.

If Ken went to the ER he was likely admitted on the spot. Blood poisoning and/or staph is nothing to play around with. I've had both and getting rid of them is no picnic. The staph was especially vicious as it was the MRSA type. Take my word for it. You don't want it! The antibiotics they used on it were so powerful I honestly wondered what would kill me first. The infection or the cure. I had to do the home iv thing three times a day for a few months to be sure I'd gotten rid of it. I sure hope he doesn't have that!
EDIT: OK, I see Simon posted while I was typing up my post. Good to know that he's going. You know, that's probably the reason he's been feeling like crap lately.
Just spoke to Ken. He is heading to the ER now. Red streaks have faded but he does not feel good, some pain I think? He has me on a mission looking for an EM1 at the WGH train show in St. Louis this afternoon

***Ken, sure hope you took everyones advice and sought treatment. Let us know how you are doing, please!
***Jeffrey, sorry about the insomnia. Happens to me, too and I do the exact same thing (or listen to old time radio shows) which usually does the trick. Take it real easy today!
My brain is working out the order in which to approach the monumental layout location change. If very careful, by using a reciprocating saw with long blade, it may be possible to save at least a few "scenes" from the old layout to be incorporated into the new one. Even if minimal damage occurs in the process, touching them up later may still be easier than completely starting over on them. This will actually be one of the first tasks to do, since all the old layouts will need to be completely removed before moving any furniture in there. Also some wall repair will be needed when I tear out the shelf layout which I kinda made permanent. Soooo, will be heading to Home Depot next week for the longest, stoutest blade they sell.
Will be busy with farm stuff today though. Have a good one y'all.
Cheers! Rob

A 20 percent chance of showers after noon. Mostly cloudy, with a temperature falling to around 41 by 5pm. Tonight-Rain, freezing rain, and sleet before midnight, then snow, freezing rain, and sleet likely. Low around 24. North northwest wind 11 to 15 mph, with gusts as high as 23 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90%. New ice accumulation of 0.1 to 0.2 of an inch possible. New snow and sleet accumulation of less than one inch possible.
Boy I sure hope Ken listened to you guys. I’m gonna say by him not being in after that, that he did. Or at least I hope so.
Rob- Go for it! Oh not that I wanna see you tear down the layout. You have a lot of w**k and enjoyment into it to just go willie nillie tearing it up. But let’s face it, starting a new layout is always fun and exciting no matter how many times you do it. And, it sounds like it’s more convenient locale.
Garry- Nice job on the passenger car. And I was gonna say 4 dogs, but only because I assumed the back of the bus had a greyhound as well. And I already knew what a three dog night was, but alas, we only have one dog so…not only is there the blanket wars, but the fight over who gets the dog too.
CDN Dennis- I know exactly what you mean. I was a mechanic and soooo many people feel ( even the ones you barely know!) that them “buying the parts” (me going to get them of course) should make the job “free”. After all, I’m not really out anything. Needless to say….I don’t w**k on peoples cars anymore.
Don’t know what I’ll do today. Haven’t felt good for the last couple days. Wait, let me rephrase that. I have felt well, that is not sick …. I've just felt tired. Haven’t done anything to get tired for, so it’s probably just lazy tired. Odd how when you do nothing, you get more tired than when you do something. Anyway, didn’t get in the trainroom yesterday for no reason other than I didn’t. Might today ifn I think about it. That’s what it is sometimes, haven’t been in there for so long, I just don’t think about it.
Ya’ll have a good day, ya hear!!!!

Good morning. It's 69° with 100 humidity and light to moderate rain. There's a fair chance of thunderstorms this afternoon. The high is projected to be 78°.Another sleepless night. It's safe to say that I'm in a really lovely (read that as bad) mood this morning. God help anybody who comes around knocking trying to sell stuff door to door. They're not supposed to do it but some people don't check the laws for this area or just don't care. The word 'NO' doesn't seem to mean anything to some of them. Those individuals get introduced to Bertha. They understand her with no translation needed and are suddenly in a real hurry to make a hasty exit! But enough about that.As I was saying before I got side tracked on sales people, I couldn't get to sleep last night so I sat up all night watching movies I've seen a bunch of times hoping that I'd get bored and fall asleep. No dice. I even watched '2012' and 'Unstoppable'. Those two watched one after the other should have been a surefire cure for insomnia. But it didn't work.No plans for anything today. Guess I'll just take it as it comes. It's more rain today. According to the weather guesser it's more rain clean through to Thursday! That doesn't help my mood any. The lakes coming up and those folks living lakeside are starting to think they may be in for real trouble. I'm safe enough up here on my hilltop thirty some feet above the lake. At eight feet it'll be in one of my neighbors home. At ten feet it'll be in another one and at twelve feet my father will have water in his great room. Hopefully they get the flood gates opened enough and that won't happen. The folks downstream from the dam could have a problem though. Last I heard the 'Little Sandy' creek was up over ten feet and I can hear water roaring over the lakes spillway from here, half a mile away.
Morning gang!
Just a quick pit stop this morning, gotta work on the kitchen cabinets today. Seems the prior owner Painted them DARK blue, with little artistic inserts with pine trees, mooses (or meece?) and pine cones. Just playing around the other day we found we could strip it off quite easily with a heat gun. The cabinets and island were originally white, so white they will be again! At least until I can afford solid Walnut with granite counters (yeah, dream on!)

Hi I always lite 1 prayer candle for general prayers for the country/world, and 1 candle specifically for those in need here in the diner. A prayer is said over them when lighting them to send healing thoughts and energy the way of the direction for them to go. I add one usually for secere comlicatiosn for our Diner members, and so I lit one for Ken with his serious situation. Consider that prayers were added and said for your friend! I hope they find a rather benign cause and the episode is not repeated.

I hope Ken has listened to your advice and went to hospital straight away. Blood poisoning is a serious matter! My prayers go out to him and all others in need!

GOOD MORNING!!!
Today is Saturday, January 12th, 2013!
A Three Dog Night..simply meant is was very COLD.
It is either of Australian Aboriginese origin or Alaskan Northern Inuit, as both lay claim to it....
If you thought it was COLD, you would invite one of your dogs to sleep in the bed with you at night for warmth..in the Outback to fend off the night desert cold, in the Northern territories it would be your mush huskies....
If it was COLDER, you would invite two dogs, and
If it was COLDER STILL, you invited three dogs to sleep with you for warmth...
So a "Three Dog Night" meant it was very very cold!
Along the Animal theme, lets look at " you can lead a horse to water, but you can't make him drink":
Meaning:
People, like horses, will only do what they have a mind to do
Origin:
Proverbs give richness to language and, to some extent, define a culture. 'You can lead a horse to water, but you can't make it drink' might be thought to encapsulate the English-speaking people's mindset better than any other saying, as it appears to be the oldest English proverb that is still in regular use today. It was recorded as early as 1175 in Old English Homilies:
Hwa is thet mei thet hors wettrien the him self nule drinken [who can give water to the horse that will not drink of its own accord?]
There are other pretenders to the throne of the oldest English proverb; for example:
A friend in need is a friend indeed. (mid 11th century in English; 5th century BC in Greek) When the blind lead the blind, both shall fall into the ditch. (late 9th century in English; Bible, Luke Chapter 6)
A friend in need is a friend indeed. (mid 11th century in English; 5th century BC in Greek)
When the blind lead the blind, both shall fall into the ditch. (late 9th century in English; Bible, Luke Chapter 6)
Whilst the above were spoken in English earlier than 'lead a horse to water...', they derive from either a Greek or Biblical source and so can't claim to be the 'full English'. Either that or, like the 11th century proverb 'full cup, steady hand', they haven't stood the test of time.
The proverb 'lead a horse to water' has been in continuous use since the 12th century. John Heywood listed it in the influential glossary A Dialogue Conteinyng the Nomber in Effect of all the Prouerbes in the Englishe Tongue:
"A man maie well bring a horse to the water, But he can not make him drinke without he will."
It also appeared in literature over the centuries in a variety of forms; for example, in the play Narcissus, which was published in 1602, of unknown authorship, subtitled as A Twelfe Night merriment, played by youths of the parish at the College of Saint John the Baptist in Oxford:
Your parents have done what they coode, They can but bringe horse to the water brinke, But horse may choose whether that horse will drinke. The prayer candle will be lit for those in need! A SPECIAL candle will be lit for our own CUDAKEN! MAKE IT A GREAT DAY BY DOING A GOOD DEED FOR SOMEONE WITHOUT THEM ASKING, AND COME BACK HERE AND TELL US WHAT YOU DID FOR SOMEONE!!!
