Good Afternoon!
Thank you for all your prayers! My Dad´s BP is down and he seems to show some improvement. I am still worried, though, not only about him, but also about my Mom. She got lost on her way to see him and it is just a miracle that she found her way back home! Since her heart surgery last year, she suffers from a loss of short term memory and shouldn´t be diving at all. When I phoned her last night, she´d promised me to have a neighbor taking her to the hospital, but most likely forgot that promise this morning. I wish my old folks wouldn´t be doing silly things like this, but there is no way I can stop them. Moving close to us into an assisted living facility is still out of question for them, although they cannot manage the daily household chores any longer. I feel pretty bad about being helpless.
Other than that, it is a dull day here. Some occasional snow flurries and dang cold outside.
Have a good one!
thanks to the guys on the N scale. org faacebook page I know where I want to go wth my track. Jeff's on top , May I have some french toast with a side of sausage and bacon please.

Here’s what I’ve been thinkin…, Ziva. No! Well.., yes. But no. I mean, that’s not what I mean. I mean about the railroad. Not w**king on it, but thinking. I wanna use buildings that can easily be used in multiple eras. Now that kinda limits me to mainly rural areas, or small towns such as Williamsville where you could park a ’41 Ford uptown and it would still look just like it did in the ‘40’s ‘cept fewer buildings. And that's okee dokee with me. But, even with that, there are a few buildings that have been built since that time and have a modern look so like real life, in the town there are a few buildings that reflect a newer era. Probably the oldest I could get away with would be the ‘70’s and if you recall my first plan, it was to be set in the ‘70’s. Aaaah, the '70's. Only the greatest decade of all. The music, the cars, the clothes and the hair styles. Oh the hair styles. The ‘70’s styled those untamed long manes of the ‘60’s, before cutting the styled part of it away creating…..the mullet. Oh yah, I’m sure a few of you rocked a mullet back in the day. Anyway, then I thought, why. It’s my choo choo set, if I wanna run steam, or F-units, why can’t I? It’s a made up railroad in a made up area so why not. No one I hang around with will really probably even notice, know, or care. So Proto purists, hang on…..Problem solved.
I’m curious how they pronounce that town J.R.’s in. I...…, have my…….ideas.

In addition to trains, do any of you play Golf? Or have you heard it stands for "Gentlemen Only, Ladies Forbidden"?, Well:
Meaning:
GOLF - Gentlemen only, ladies forbidden. The phrase that is sometimes supposed to be the origin of the word golf
Origin:
It seems hardly worth mentioning but, of course, the word golf wasn't coined as an acronym formed from 'gentlemen only, ladies forbidden'. It is only mentioned as it is one of those nonsense stories or jokes that circulate on the Internet and this may help cut down on the number of times it gets repeated.
Golf is a very ancient game and the name is first used in print as early as 1457:
"And at e fut bal ande e golf be vtterly cryt downe and nocht vsyt."
This was part of a proclamation by James II of Scotland aimed at reducing the time that the populace spent playing golf and football , which were keeping his subjects away from archery practice. The edict was repeated later by James III and James IV, who called golf and football 'vnproffitable sportis'.
There were many spellings of the word prior to the acceptance of the current spelling - goff, gowf, golf, goif, gof to name just a few. The unsupported idea that the word was formed from an acronym hardly explains how all the alternative spellings came into being. Acronyms are in fact a 20th century innovation and more than half a millennium too late to be the source of the name golf.
The real derivation of 'golf' is obscure and the subject of considerable dispute.

Near a cornfield in Indiana...
Greetings from Pukekohe,
Today was registration and scrutineering so we got done early. We'd had to take a lot of the Lotus23 apart to clean it after Travis fell off the first turn (5th gear downhill) on his last lap. A beach full of gravel and a good sized mess but he kept it off the wall so - could have been worse. Also found the source of an annoying loss of coolant and changed out the water tank which had a split in the filler neck that only showed up at high revs That took the rest of the morning. Time off took us down a winding road to the Tasman sea. Volcanic sand wind surfers, rocky shore gorgeous. Tapas for dinner - a new experience for the CFO and lovely food in a great relaxed atmosphere.
Sorry to hear about the continued flu problems. On top of the rest we are a hurting bunch just now. Wow IUlrich. When I went in with 220BP the nurse backed away like I might explode. Hope your Dad gets better quick. Ken - slippers are in order I guess - or at least shower shoes. I had the same issues when my foot got mangled but I was anal about keeping everything disinfected and clean and it worked out ok. And I can also relate to the time on your feet. Do you have any recourse under ADA regs? They could at least allow you a stool to perch on between customers.
Lots of rail here in Pukekohe. We are on the double track mainline of Kiwi Rail and there are also commuter trains going both north and south in the morning. Lots more COFC traffic here than Austrailia where they seem to transfer everything out of containers right by the docks. We also went by the local rail museum but they seem to only be open Sundays and that is race day so no deal there. If there is not too much to do between races we hope to take the train from here to Christchurch on South Island just to do the touristy thing. We'll see where it goes from there. CUL, J.R.
Chamomile tea, please.
***Jeffrey, sure glad your detective work quickly tracked that one down. YIKES!
***Ray, love your cat. Looks so much like my "Storm Cat" curled up on the loveseat right behind me.
***Curt, now you've gone and done it. I had the Proto in a shopping cart, then (being at home infront of a puter screen) just had to check out videos of the BLI 2-8-0 and, well, how could I ever justify getting the Proto 0-8-0 when for not that much more I could have a smoking cool 2-8-0? I was very impressed with the vids of that one. Sooo, will hold off on the switcher for now and think on it awhile. (((If you knew the two locos I just pre-ordered, you would understand my desire to wait a bit first.)))
Have a good night, y'all.
Cheers! Rob
Well I was having some trouble with the electricity here today. The lights kept going from bright to dim then bright again. I checked the voltage at a couple of the outlets. It was fluctuating between 92 and 115 with an occasional dip to the high 60's. Just out of curiosity I turned the heater off and the reading went up to 109. I then turned the heater back on and it dipped to 92 again. Then I turned it on high. There was a pop from under the layout and the reading went to 115 and the heater was running on high with no problem. Aha! Only a couple of things could account for that. The first one I checked turned out to be the culprit. There's a heavy duty heater/ac extension cord between the heater and it's 20amp wall socket, and yes I know for a fact it's 20amp. I installed it myself when I rewired the trailer in 94 with wire more than equal to the need. Where the cord plugged in the wall socket was OK. When I picked up the end the heater was plugged into it sizzled a little, the light dimmed and brightened so yes, I had found the problem. That cord had only been there for twelve years (I put it there in 2000) so it had every right to be acting up. No sense trying to save it. I got a new one (exact same type) from the closet and put it in place. Now everything works as it should. Good thing I went way above code on the wiring when I rewired this place. Well that's enough about that. I wouldn't want to bore anyone. And I did run a train today. I'd knocked some wires around while I was under the layout and I ran a train all the way around to make sure there weren't any problems. I even checked the track voltage at several points. Eleven volts, just what it should be. Go much higher than that and the Z Scale decoders don't like it. Above fifteen volts in anything bigger than a yard switcher they start running hot so I don't go there. I run them in geeps, SD's, F units, etc.Well time to call it a night. See y'all tomorrow.
Evening all. Just stopping in tonight before I start falling asleep at the laptop (as I was doing last night as I caught up on things, but was unable to post). Today was my day off, which meant I didn't go and work at my full-time job, but I did manage to get a side job out of the way and put a little extra money in the bank. Was also able to watch a couple of trains today before I headed home for the evening. Amy made stew in our crockpot and there's plenty left over, so y'all help yourselves!
Ulrich: our thoughts and prayers are with you and your dad during this time. Please keep us informed, sir!
To everyone else, y'all stop getting sick (sheesh, you'd think we run a germ factory around here!)
Welp, I think I'm going to be heading off to bed, I've gotta get up early tomorrow morning to put Heather on the bus and its supposed to be cold, windy, rainy, and possibly snowy in the morn (snow is a pretty rare thing in this particular part of Bama, so we'll see).
Later taters!
Evenin' folks!
Janie, just a cup of decaf for me before I turn for the night. into what, I have no idea...
Curt and Barry... No, no! Claude is just fine... He is a very healthy and active kitten. It is my cat Blackie that is not doing so well. This guy:
He has been just sleeping most of the day in his chair by the aquarium. I'm hoping he has just pulled a muscle and will get better on his own. Doesn't seem to be any worse tonight, so......
Tomorrow will be a completely off the wall day from the time I get up 'till late evening. Friday was to be my day to leisurely pack the car and get everything ready for the meet on Saturday. My son called earlier and they need me to watch the girls for about 3 hours on Friday. That puts an end to the word leisurely. I finally got a hold of the mother of the girl who is helping to watch Claude, and she will feed and take care of him for me on Saturday and again on Monday.
I joined the Prius Forum a couple days ago and today I made my first post there... Asked them where they hid the clutch? They all took it in the way it was imtended....
This evening I worked on new name tags for the Division membership. got the name tags done, but I need to stop at Staples and get a pack of those "Hello, my name is___" ones for guests.
Barry, glad you are feeling a bit better.
Prayers for all in need!

We'll get there sooner or later!
Rob- I use a H10-44, NW-2, 4-4-0, and a 2-6-0 at different times depending on what I feel like using. I would like to get the Proto 0-8-0 but can't see spending that kind of money for it. My Dad has a IHC 0-8-0 (comes in a red box) that he had a Tsunami put in and it runs and sounds good. Of course I have the BLI 2-8-0 on preorder and that is not cheap.

OK everyone, how about we all stop having all these health issues for awhile. YIKES! Continued healing thoughts for all in need, and there seem to be quite a few these days.
Mint tea, please.
Hey, for those of you modeling in the steam era, what is your favorite loco for switching duties? I am heavily leaning towards a Walthers Proto 0-8-0 w/ DCC & sound (are they worth it???), although the cost of one is almost enough to make me pass out. Still, kinda think this would be an ideal loco for simple yard work on the new layout (and maybe around the Soylent Green Plant.)
What A Day.
Flo, Beer Pleases! Get a second one ready as well!
Work was slooow today, this could be the worst check to date! But, that is OK, I got home at 7:00 PM and was ready to enjoy the dinner, watch Ziva and run some trains!
Hum, I saved a link to a Foot Ulcer Clinic so I decided to read it before I came to the dinner, that was a mistake! Fire Fox was sort of hijacked (new add on I did want) and I could not close the site! Tried the Ctrl, *** and Delete and it would still not shut down! So I crashed the computer and restarted it.
So it rebooted and I was able to open Fire Fox, sort of? I tried to send a PM to Vince's, could not open the PM, tried to open the dinner, nothing? After rebooting 3 times, I found the Alt key was stuck down? Got it unstuck and the is fine now.
Vince' s I will be sending you a PM Thursday before I go to work.
YGW Lets just say this is one of the worst job's I have had so far and wish they never called me! Long story made short I was a Pawn in a inter-company power struggle. My side lost! If you like more details I will PM you the details.
Toe and Work Front you asked? Well I was made to stand 7.5 hours a day out of 8 or more hours, regardless if I had a customer or not. Well I started getting callus on my feet and did not think anything of it! Well I am diabetic, the callus caused a diabetic ulcer on my right big toe! It was not till there was a open wound that I realized I was in trouble!
I spent 6 days in the VA Hospital and was off work (with no pay) for 6 weeks! There is still a hole in the bottom of my right big toe about the sizes of a dime. Toe keeps getting infected because there is no skin so after I went back to work I have missed around another 15 to 20 days of work on and off! Now that we know what is causing the reacquiring infection
maybe it will heal.
Ulrich your father is in my prayers as well.
See you all later, got to watch Ziva!

Good Evening..
Lots of sun today but it was not enough to keep the ccold at bay like it did yesterday...the westerly winds kept springing up.
Got most of the creeping crud out of my system...Mattie' Chile did it...chile slow cooked with cheesecloth bag with cut up habanero and ghost peppers in the middle of said chile...mmmmmm...good!!
YGW:
Ulrich: for your father
Ray: Hope Claude gets better soon!!
Ken: Hope that everything works out for you..
Evening All,
Back home from w**k tonight. Today was my Friday.
YGW- Condolences to your family and am saying prayers for you.
Ulrich- Saying prayers for your Father.
Ken- Hope your toe gets better real soon since you now know what is causing the problem.
Barry- Hope you feel better soon.
Ray- Hope Claude is OK.
Hope everyone has a good night and prayers for those in need.
Ulrich: I hope everything goes well for your father.
Sir MadogGood Evening! Just a short stopover here. I am worried about my Dad. He is in hospital, his BP exceeding 250! Prospects are not very promising. Please include him in your prayers. Blessings to all!

Evenin' folks,
Chloe, I'll have the hot chicken sandwich, and a trip to the salad bar for dinner tonight. Oh and a cup of decaf along with it as well. Thank you Ma'am.
I am pretty close being nearly done with absolutely must get done today list even with several interruptions. Just have to call the kid who is supposedly helping to take care of my sisters cat tonight and make sure she will feed him on Saturday and next Monday. I don't think my sister told she is needed on Monday, because I forgot I will be tied up with all kinds of other stuff on MLK Day and didn't say anything to sister about it.... Worst case scenario, Claude won't get fed until early evening.
Once again when I got my sister's house this afternoon, Claude had left one of his toys in his food dish for me.... He is a character! He alternates between a sweet little cuddly kittie and a discharge of electricity. Blackie doesn't appear to be any worse than he was. Hopefully he will recover without a trip to the vets...
Ulrich, your father is in my prayers! Hopefully they can get get it calmed down for him.
Later!
I hope he will be ok Sir Madog.
woot! my Kato silver streak zephyr is here so I'd better get ready to do a review.
Howdy all, been really busy the last while and it`s mostly NOT on the Railroad The new year seemed to set MOH off on a ton of Ì need your help with` ... fill in the blank.
So the list is now down to painting the main bathroom - done 2 years ago - tired of the color
Paint the kitchen - done 2 years ago - It`s too dark! What, you loved it when I did it 2 years ago!!! and finally, Honey (smiling sweetly) when you do the kitchen (smile smile) I don`t suppose to I could get you to do the living room too. Right just did that 2 years ago as well, what`s wrong with IT now
And so it goes. At this rate it will be spring and I won`t have gotten anything done on the layout still.
As for the layout room, it`s in a state of chaos right now....
It started looking like this... and has progressed to the second picture. Still utter bedlam but the ceiling is about two thirds done if you can see around all the junk.

Italian Roast coffee in a UNION PACIFIC mug, please.
Speaking of locomotive sizes in person, I was surprised how large The General was in person, as I expected it to be a itty bitty thing and it wasn't. I remember as a youth little tank locos (0-4-0, 0-6-0, etc...) that were anything but little. Have never seen a big articulated in person, so can only imagine the massiveness of such beasts.
Have a terrific day all.
Mornin' everyone!
Zoe, I'll have a hot bowl of oatmeal with brown sugar and a pot of dark roast coffee please.
Starting out gray here in the Finger Lakes, but the sun may make an appearance for a bit this afternoon. Today is crunch day! I have a long list of things I have to get done before I go to bed tonight and I don't think there is enough hours in the day to get it all done. This will be a frantically busy weekend and I will have little time for any MRRing.
On top of everything else, something is wrong with Blackie... He can no longer jump up and get on the bed. Most of the time he tries and falls back down (He is declawed). He seems to walk OK but is not able to get up to his usual places. Doesn't seem to be in a lot of pain, so I'm hoping he just pulled a muscle or something like that. I can't get him to the Vet until next week because of the other obligations I have, so I hope he gets better on his own!

Question. What is this digital copy thing Kalmbach is selling now ? Is that just a digital copy of the mag ? Or is there extra stuff with that ?
Good morning. It's 33° with 100% humidity. Mostly cloudy with a small chance of rain. The high will be 45°.Other than a possibility of light rain this morning it looks like the rain is coming to an end. About time. I think I'll just get some rest today. There are no plans for working on the layout at this time. Electrical power isn't stable this morning. It keeps fluctuating. So much so it causes my modem to drop out for a second.
