Evenin' folks!

Janie, just my usual decaf please.  Yes, without the cilantro and the salsa...  Shesh!

Got the vehicles all ready to have there last drive with me in the drivers seat...  My son and granddaughter #2 will be at my house about 11AM tomorrow to follow me up to Canandaigua while I see if the old truck will hold together for the 16 mile journey...  I better!  I will be taking back roads when I get near Canandaigua.  I will do some quick odds and ends that need to be done before I come back mid afternoon to get the Prius.  I will kinda miss both of the old vehicles.  They have served me well over the years.  I hope the new car will do the same!

Tonight I went back over to the old Boy Scout office to help with rechartering.  A couple people involved with a troop to the South of here stopped by and got their charter finished.  Both of them are dear old Scouting friends who came into leadership positions about the same time I did.  We sat and talked about old times for a couple hours.  We noticed that all the "old Scouters" we knew back then have now passed on and that we are now the "Old Scouters".  The guy was a construction worker and boss for his career, and the lady is part owner of a grape farm (their grapes are made into the wonderful Finger Lakes wines we have around here).  It was good just to sit and chat with them.

Jeffrey, my continued prayers for all of your family!

I see Barry is hobbling around the diner...  Sorry to hear of the accident my friend.

Ken, good luck with the test for manager.  I bet you come through with flying colors!

Prayers for all in need!

The GP7 I was working on today. Originally UP 116, now L&A 116. DCC. Digitrax DZ125 FX3 decoder. It's not much to look at but it's paid for.

 Evening Folks

 Flo, Beer Pleases

Pretty wiped out today. Had way to much for lunch (NAPA bought it) and I am ready for sleep.

Work Front / Meeting Front. I found out today it was a meeting for management only. So it looks like I am on my way to getting promoted. I have another day of training and then have to past a written test. I am a tad worried about the test. Reason I was the only none management person there and have never seen any of the computer screens they where talking about today. (again because no one will show me anything and I had asked) Bang Head But I am not stupid, well as far as I know so more than likely I will pass.

 See you all later.

Finished installing the decoder in the GP7 early this afternoon and took a few minutes to program and and test it. Everything is as it should be.

Had dinner with my father today. Chicken pies, home fries, corn, green beans, onions. He's an emotional wreck right now and I can't say as I blame him. At last report there's still no change in my mothers condition. She's still in a coma and they don't know why. This has been hard on the whole family and we're all showing the effects of it.

We still have thunderstorms rumbling through here, some rain but not as much as we need.

Jeff ..... You may tell your father and the rest of your family we diners care about "Dad" as well as "Mom". Praying for he health.

Keith ......... You are welcome. Your photos show some very impressive work.

Galaxy ... That joke was a funny one.

Now you have a "Blownout Heel" as well as a Blownout Cylinder"Sigh Nothing like home accidents to make one unhappy.

Me, I picked up a cold last Friday, took it easy for two days and it seemed to coming around till this morning. Arrrgggg now it's in my chest which could be bad news if I don't take care of it. I've have pneumonia three times before thanks to fighting fires in the middle of winter so I'm kind of ät risk"so to speak.

Expecting my order of a F9A - B units in from Intermountain any day now. Although, the'll probably get \hung up in Customs at the border given the time of year it is Confused Oh well, they will get here when they get here. Doesn't matter a lot since I don't have the wiring done on the layout .

At the dentist today for the 5th time in a month and he's still not done. Hope he finishes before my budget for teeth runs out Sad Sure does know how to treat the wallet.

Anyway, the freezing almost out so I can feel my face again. Maybe have a cup of coffee that doesn't dribble down my chin. Oops - Sign

I read a file on a bridge that a local fishing company wanted to raise 2 feet higher than originally built.  The fishing company gathered a favorable signature from every person that lived in the town and presented it to the county engineer.  The county took a vote to raise the bridge 24” and to raise everyone’s property taxes to cover the construction.  The vote failed and the bridge is still at its original height over 100 years later.  About every 20 years the people get together and suggest the bridge be raised higher and every 20 years the vote fails…..

Same old story. Everybody wants it done but when it comes time to pay for it you can hear a pin drop a mile away. And of course there's the same old grousing that it never gets done. Can't imaging why.

Good Morning all,

Ray, I’ll be 46 this month.  I picked up a federal job when I left the service so I earn something like 1% towards retirement each year I work so I need to do at least 20 years to make ends meet.

I processed the request to install a cofferdam this winter to assist in removing the underwater portions of the bridge.  Keeping that bridge for posterity would have been nice but it would have needed a lot of money to make it safe and even more money in annual maintenance than anyone was willing to pay.

GTM Racing.   Thank you .. as I have said before.. I still have that El Camino.  All gaskets and rubber hoses have been replaced.  Added a Four Barrel to it.. and love it.  Shell Gas.. Premium seems to be the only gas around here worth putting in.  A very small race from a signal.. I love it.. Off from a roll.. you pair up to the guy next to you.. somewhere in 2nd gear.. you wait for the guy.. and you both punch it.  I think I told last time.. but I was asking my wife.. "He did punch it?"  No downshifting.. just the four barrel kicking in.. the bottom end is a thrill .. to feel the power kick in.. I LOVE IT!

Todd.. nice to see you too bud.  I keep wondering if you are making progress on the layout.  There might be a time... when I catch up to you.  I hope your dog is still with you.  I know mine are getting on with age.

Garry thanks for the Kudo's .. yes.. I have been busy.  My way of 'pulling down the shades' of the world.. and escaping into my own little world.  There's plenty of more to come.  This all started way back when I first read a post from Sir Maddog.  He once said, 'He would like to see a layout from start to finish".  I have never forgetten that.. and have been documenting from the start.  If there is something you'd like to see in particular .. let me know.. I have improved upon my skills.  Amazing.. the more you work with the materials.. the better one gets.  HOW busy...?  This busy~

Curt,  Why yes that building is 'Gas and Electric building by CMR.  I bought it on ebay about a year ago.  The price was right, (5 dollars less than the site price) and I had always wanted one.

Blownout Cylinder.  Thanks for the Welcome.  I still have my El Camino and loving it.  Its been a love of my life, truly a fun car to drive.

Jim RCGMO.  That is the Gas and Electric Building by CMR.  I think I paid around $65.00 for it.

"Hardest part (I suspect) might be deciding, "How do I want to arrange this building"

Jim Don't think that hasn't crossed my mind.  Now of course it would seem that most modelers prefer lots of corner buildings.  And this would seem to fit into that category.  I wonder if the real question is.. Which way to place on the corner?  That is, the typical building on the corner or reverse it and have an 'Open area' facing the corner.  I guess the correct word would be 'Courtyard' .. with park like trees and benches along with anything I can think of.  I think by having the Courtyard facing the corner / intersection would be more inviting.

Now on a side note Jim I do bash a few kits for no other reason than to have a corner building.

I kind of fell into bashing that building,  last Christmas my son and his dogs came to visit.  Being still a pup, he got ahold of the model and crunch.  No worries.. I'll buy another and try to bash it all.  All in all I was happy that I ended up with a corner building.

ALSO, at times I will make a mold of a certain building part .. just because it might be used to elevate a building as well as make it corner building.  Here's a pic of what I am talking about .. mold and additional doorway for possibly making a corner building.  I make many molds of various parts that I can use hopefully elsewhere.

Afternoon folks!

Chloe, I'll have a Turkey Club Sandwich, no tomatoes, no salsa, no cilantro.  Why do they insist on serving everything with that stuff...??? Oh, and a cup of decaf coffee please.  No, no salsa with THAT either...

The big ball of brightness is still outside at the moment, but should be replaced with gray gloominess soon, or so the weather people say...  Thanks, Barry. Whistling

Ulrich and Garry, thanks.  Time will tell if this was a smart move for me or not.  I usually buy a car or truck new and then run it into the ground over the next 10 to 12 years...  This is the first time I have ever traded in a car while it was worth more than junk prices.

Got the truck cleaned out this morning.  Didn't need to even put a jacket on.  It is currently 67°F outside.  New record for the books for December around here... Found a bunch of stuff I had forgot I even bought.  Flares, a first aid kit, and a fire extinguisher.  The First Aid Kit and the Fire Extinguisher I got back when I was a commissioner at Boy Scout Camp.  You had to have both of those to use your truck as an official camp vehicle.  Pocketed a couple dollars worth of coins from the coin slots in the center armrest, and found a large number of bungee cords I was looking for a few weeks ago.  Now to go start on the Yaris!

Later!

Garry - the trip to my parents place will not be an easy one. They still live in their house, but continue to refuse any outside help. My Mom is getting weaker day by day, as she has to bear the full load of the household. Aged 84, having had a series of surgeries last year, she shouldn´t be doing all this. What worries me the most is, that she still insists on driving. I am just waiting for something to happen ...

I wish we could have them nearer to us, but they just don´t want to leave their house.

Sir Madog
I wish I could afford an electric car. The little we drive nowadays any of those critters that can do about 100 miles on a charge would just do. The ones in the market are still way to expensive, and you even have to add the cost for the battery rental. I just made a calculation - that rental fee is equivalent to the cost of gas for 10,000 miles. Not really a good thing. We are just too poor to go green.

No way can I afford one of those electric cars. I'll just have to keep buying gas for my gas guzzler.

Good Evening!

Another dull and boring day is coming to an end. I don´t feel like doing anything lately - haven´t even touched my copy of the January MR.

Ray - congrats on the purchase of the Prius! Seems as if you really got a good deal on it. The plug-in hybrid Prius sells for over $ 45 k in our neck of the woods. I wish I could afford an electric car. The little we drive nowadays any of those critters that can do about 100 miles on a charge would just do. Good morning. .. I'll have TH coffee and a TH original donut, (eh, Canadians) please.

Keith ... Thanks for returning to the DIner! Evidently, you have been very busy. Your buildings are outstanding.

Ray ... Congratulations on your new car.

Mark ... That lloks like a good track plan. I prefer around the wall layouts like that plan.

Here is #700D in City of Heartland. A streetcar rumbles toward downtown in the photo.

Jeffrey, hope your mom is doing OK.  Nice photos you have been posting!

As of this morning she's still in a coma. After much testing they still have no idea what's wrong.

*

Busy working on the GP7. I'm about halfway through changing out the decoder. After removing the old one I turned it over and found the reason the light circuit wasn't working properly. It's got a really ugly burned area on it.

Mornin' everyone!

Zoe, I'll have a "Mexican Omelet", remove any salsa from the dish, please and a cup of dark roast coffee in a R&GV RR mug.  Oh bring a bottle of catsup over as well...  Can I get sourdough toast with it?  No? Humph!  I can at Water Street Cafe in Geneva....  OK, Whole wheat toast will do.

Woke up this morning and remembered what I did yesterday....  Can't believe I spent THAT much money on a car!  Today will be primarily spent removing all my carp form the truck and old car.  Not sure what the best way to cut the power to the inverter will be...  I think if I locate the wires at the battery itself, I can just cut the power and see how much wire I can salvage.  I also need to find the bag of heavy duty velcro stips I bought for the EZ Pass unit.  Grabbed that out of the Yaris last night as I thought about it when I drove in the driveway.

Lee...  I can only hope I will still be among the breathing population by 2029! WhistlingLaugh  You must be a young fella, I guess.  I will forward more photos of the Hojack demolition later.  I'm sure you already know, but the bridge is completely gone now.  Only the demolition of the foundation pier left to go.

Jeffrey, hope your mom is doing OK.  Nice photos you have been posting!

Karl, you figured it out... Smile, Wink & Grin  No ramp to the roof... just plugging it in to a dedicated 120v circuit by my porch will suffice.

Barry, keep the gloom stuff North of the border will ya! Smile, Wink & Grin  Right now the sun is shining on the roof, but as soon as I go out to w*rk on the vehicles, I am sure the liquid sunshine will start falling.

Jim, unless I have trouble of some kind with the loan, I think it would be very hard to beat 0% financing.  I can pay ahead on the loan and pay it off at any time I choose.  It will be automatic through my account at the CU, so I may just pay it over the 4 years and not worry about it.  I have had the CU buy out loans before, yes they are great to do those things.

Seems there were a couple other people I was going to say something too this morning.  Oh!  Dennis, yes it was my sister who lost her old cat to an attack by the neighbors dog.  That is why this one is supposed to be an inside kitty.  He is a complete character.  Completely different personality from the old cat.  He fetches things like a dog.  My sister throws one of his toys across the room and he runs, grabs it, and then brings it back and drops it at her feet...  Very friendly and smart!

Best get moving...  Later!

Good Morning all,

Todd, I wanted to scrub the HD and do a clean install anyway this just motivated me to do it.  I have back-ups going back 12 months on the 4TB Ext drive but when I switched to Win7 I experimented a lot with what old programs would work and what wouldn’t and I bet I had a bunch of leftover trash on the drive.

Microcenter has a USB 3 HD tower that will support 12TB of storage on 6 HD’s.  I don’t need that, but it would be cool to have on the shelf….

Richard, 2029 and I can retire completely, already have one retirement under my belt but back 25 years ago they really didn’t have retirement options for us like they do now.  I hope to do the second retirement much better!

Good morning. It's 67°, 100% humidity and very wet. It'll be mostly cloudy with a fair chance of showers and thunderstorms throughout the day. The high will be 75°.

Looks like a good day to get started on changing out the decoder in one of my GP7's. First thing on the list is to go through the CV's and write down the settings so I can program the new one properly. I have no other plans for today except of course to stay dry.

Good Morning!!!

Coffee and waffle with strawberries and whipped cream please. Thank you.

New mouse!!! Works great. Happy world, happy world. Supposed to w**k on any surface cause of some blue light thing and it does w**k well. I can once again use my pant leg as a surface. HmmOf course the one before this last one did too.Hmmm and that was before they invented this new w**ks on any surface blue light thing. What did they do, make all the others NOT w**k on surfaces to sell these? Wouldn't doubt it. Shoot this last one wouldn't w**k well on a mouse pad or any surface.

Keith!! Glad to see you. Thought you dropped off the edge of the country.

SighDidn’t get anything done in the office yesterday due to bookwork for the Church and my trip to town. But I did get a few more things to Habitat for Humanities Re-Store and 2 pair boots to the shoe repair for new soles and heels (got lost for 15 20 minutes. I always pick the wrong road. Only go there once a year so.....), my new mousey and a chicken sandwich and fries that I paid as much for as I would have for a gut buster at the Chinese Buffet. AND no chance the lady behind the counter would have brought me a bowl of peaches either. Fast food is just fast. Well, fast-er. Not cheap. Oh yes there’s the dollar menu for a snack or light lunch, but by the time you get enough of those, you’re right back up there. Depends on how you eat of course.

Gotta few bills in the mail yesterday so I’ll pay them this morn and then spin my chair around and get cracking on this room before grocery put away at 10.

Ooo! Piece of candy!

Ya’ll have a good day, ya hear!!!!

Morning Coffee in the Diner with friends...

GOOD MORNING!!!

Today is Tuesday, December 4th, 2012!!!

We certainly do live in "Interesting Times", SO:

Meaning:

May you experience much disorder and trouble in your life

Origin:

While purporting to be a blessing, this is in fact a curse. The expression is always used ironically, with the clear implication  that 'uninteresting times', of peace and tranquillity, are more life-enhancing than interesting ones.

'May you live in interesting times'  is  widely reported as being of ancient Chinese origin but  is neither Chinese nor ancient, being recent  and western. It certainly seems to  have been intended to sound oriental, in the faux-Chinese 'Confucius he    say' style, but that's as near to China as it actually gets. Confucius's actual sayings are as elusive as those of his western counterpart Aesop- we have no written records from either of them.

The phrase was  introduced in the 20th century in the form 'interesting age' rather than 'interesting times' and appears that way in  the opening remarks made by Frederic R. Coudert at the Proceedings of the Academy of Political Science, 1939:

Some years ago, in 1936, I had to write to a very dear and honored friend of mine, who has since died, Sir Austen Chamberlain, brother of the present Prime Minister, and I concluded my letter with a rather banal remark, "that we were living in an interesting age." Evidently he read the whole letter, because by return mail he wrote to me and concluded as follows: "Many years ago, I learned from one of our diplomats in China that one of the principal Chinese curses heaped upon an enemy is, 'May you live in an interesting age.'" "Surely", he said, "no age has been more fraught with insecurity than our own present time." That was three years ago.

This citation has to be treated with caution as Chamberlain didn't speak Chinese and never visited China, although he was in contact with diplomats stationed there  during his time as British Foreign Secretary, that is, 1924-1929. We have the 1939 citation in print, so the 'interesting age' form must be at least that old. If we are to believe Coulson's assertion, the phrase dates from before 1936 and, if we trust in Chamberlain's recollection,  we can push the origin back to pre-1929.

As to the currently used 'interesting times' version, we can only date that to post WWII. No one is sure who introduced the term but the person who did most to bring it to the public's attention was Robert Kennedy. In  a speech in Cape Town in June 1966, Kennedy said:

There is a Chinese curse which says 'May he live in interesting times.' Like it or not we live in interesting times. They are times of danger and uncertainty; but they are also more open to the creative energy of men than any other time in history.

As those who lived through the 1960s (and can remember) will recall, they were nothing if not interesting.

JOKE OF THE DAY:

A Wise old  grandmother is giving directions to her grown grandson who is coming to visit with his new wife.
"You come to the front door of the apartment. I am in apartment 301 . There is a big panel at the front door.
With your elbow, push button 301 and I will buzz you in. Come inside, the elevator is on the right.
Get in, and with your elbow push 3. When you get out, I'm on the left. With your elbow, hit my doorbell."
"Grandma, that sounds easy, but, why am I hitting all these buttons with my elbow?
"What ... You coming empty handed?"

Stick out tongue

The prayer candles will be lit most of the day for those in need of thoughts and prayers this day. Angel Angel Angel

Make today A GREAT DAY!

Good Morning!

It´s cold and windy outside. Yesterday evening saw some snow, but it started to rain during the night, so all is gone by now. We are "enjoying  a spell of "warmer" weather the next days - daytime temperatures hovering at 38 F. That spell will be over by coming Friday - right in time for our trip to my parent´s place. My father will be turning 86, so we want to be with him that day.

The post woman (mail woman somehow does not sound right) not only brought my January copy of MR, but also that table saw I ordered. Now I have all the tools I need to build those buildings, but no materials for it. Somehow that does not sound right either.

Still no word from our son, whether or when he will join us for the holidays. We have a few little (vey little, indeed) presents for him and his GF waiting for them.

Have a nice day & blessings to all!

Gidday All, certainly no where near as warm as OzJim, 82 F yesterday, and only 70 F today but had warm dry winds, which on top of the driest November in 50 years, has already got the Fire Warning signs at "Very High", though there is currently a severe rain warning for the area, a forecast 3 to 5 inches. Hope we get it as we have two machines down, only two available for fire fighting. Hopefully we'll have one back in the air tomorrow, the second Thursday, touch wood, (firmly touching head with both hands).

Only 2145 hours but I whacked and with a couple of long days to come, its off to bed for me.

Thoughts and Best Wishes to All Those who need them.

Cheers, the Bear.

Gday folks. It’s an early season stinker here. We’re sitting just below 39c (102F) here In Brisbane, very unseasonal to have a December day this hot. Normally our really hot days occur in January or February. The saving grace is that the humidity is only 30% so the wind is very dry, but that means it’s great conditions for fires to start. I’m lucky to be sitting in AC all day, but had to go out to get lunch about half an hour ago. The ambient temperature was 140F!! NOW THAT is HOT. Out in the warehouse it’s about 115F.

Not much else going on, just hope all the people don’t melt who have to work outdoors. Our power demand is Extreme at the moment, pushing the record usage of 4670MW in the day.

Talk to you later… once I’ve stopped melting. OzJim
