Afternoon guys

Well I finally got around to weathering some cars. I didn't use the rustoleum this time because I wanted a few different colors (Haven't found some in rustoleum cans, like greys, browns, tans, etc) I got the pieces of the autorack plus the following weathered the following kit cars:
DRGW FMC hopper
CB&Q ACF hopper
SSW ACF hopper
UP combo door box
MP Thrall Gondola

The UP and MP cars came out lightly weathered. The hoppers are a bit heavier; with the CB&Q being the heaviest (about 20 years old in my era; kinda hard to read the lettering in dim light). I ran out of grey after the UP and MP cars, so I made due with a bit of white and brown. The bottom of the DRGW car actually broke in half when I tried to take it apart to weather (I don't see why people glue MDC or BB kits together). I'll try gluing it up and touching up the weathering. IMO I kind of overdid it on most of the cars. I kind of have uses of overdoing it when just using the brush with different colors.... I haven't overdone it on the rustoleum white trick though...

maybe tomorrow I'll get those cars back together and weather some more, using the rustoleum.

Vincent

Wants: 1. high-quality, sound equipped, SD40-2s, C636s, C30-7s, and F-units in BN. As for ones that don't cost an arm and a leg, that's out of the question....

2. An end to the limited-production and other crap that makes models harder to get and more expensive.

Excuse me while I pop in here for once, again... I swear I'm still around!

Applying to colleges is interesting. Some colleges wanted my name and address and grades, nothing else; others want me to write a 10 page paper on how awesome I am, it seems.

Within all of the music, schools, life in general... trains still are there, somewhere. I've been plotting world domination (the world being a piece of wood roughly 4x8 feet) once again.

Edit... it didn't want to post this as a picture, the link is here QdJ1s

The long tunnel with a 4% grade could prove tricky... liftout section will be a must, I imagine.

Evenin' folks!

Janie, just a cup of decaf please.

Ahhhh, been a long and busy day!  Got our my "holiday decorations" and put them up.  They didn't want to co-operate as always, so I decided to just go with the flow.  Came out pretty dog-gone good if I do say so myself!

Did my laundry and hung it up to dry.  Then I realized I didn't have any underpants clean to wear to church tomorrow so tonight I took all the white clothes down and put them in the dryer for a while.  Have another 15 minutes or so and I will have clean dry under stuff to wear when I go to church to be an usher tomorrow.  Hope the roof doesn't cave in what with me showing up 3 weeks in a row...

Did a bit more scenery along the back wall of the layout while the clothes were washing.

Tomorrow night I get dinner again at my son's house.  Probably will get cake for dessert after I blow out the candles...  Remind me to check and make sure they have a working fire extinguisher before they sing the song!  Wonder what key it will be ion?  I usually start the obligatory song on other peoples "special" day.  Or a day close to it.  Nope tomorrow isn't the day for me either...  I plan to sleep most of the day on Monday to get through it without problems!  (except I have too many things that have to be done on Tuesday.)

Later!

Howdy ...

It's a great visit with son, DIL, and 2 grand daughters from Cincinnati. They brought their 2 dogs (1 normal size and 1 giant dog).... The giant dog is the one they got after they had an intruder in their house. A couple of years ago DIL returned home from shopping. She had the 2 little girls with her. She thought the house had nobdody in it as it should, but that was not the case ... My 2 grand daughters have never gotten over that ordeal. ...... Their huge dog keeps stangers away now.

SPMan-Ray ... It's good to see you here. Interesting you worked for SP. We have some retired railroad guys here in the diner, too. ..... I've had a few SP models from time-to-time with my model trains.

SLOW-Ray ...... I saw your photo of the Christmas lights. Looks like you may have a hang up, but I won't tell. ... Is that a picture of your branch line?

Darren .... Glad you stopped in with the photos. I hope you find more time to visit the diner.

Duke .... Ditto. The SOU Ry Crescent locomotive is fabulous. .... That must be you in 2nd picture running it. Is that in NC?

Galaxy ..... I hope things improve with your in-laws.

Hoople ... It's been a while since we saw you. Hope to see you again soon. Good luck applying for college.

Jeff .... Nice creative photography with rear view mirror.

JimCG ..... There is so much to do before 12/21/12.

Everybody ...... It's great to see all of you here. I hope you had enough to eat on T-day!

Not much model railroading to report here with the holiday weekend. I did, however, finally get around to installing decoiders in my Proto 2000 F7 ABA locomotive set.

Cheers.

Been a busy day for me. First had the foul-up with the nurses time table this morning. Then had half a ton of stuff to get done online. Had a late lunch. Then I had to help my father get my mother from the house to the car so the three of us could go to Buffet City for dinner. She can't even stand on her own anymore and I sure as heck can't lift her. I feel a sharp pain in my ankle tonight that's probably being caused by a shard of broken bone. I'll know for sure if it goes to bleeding like a stuck pig in the next day or two. Got to go down there in the morning to look after her for a couple of hours in the morning until the nurse gets there at 9 am. Told my father he needed to come across with some cash for gas if he expects me to keep coming down there. Gas is hard to come by on my tiny income and my van doesn't run on good wishes. I need it to take care of my errands, business and doctor appointments. All this other stuff is extra expense and he can darn well supply the gas for it.

Well, time for me to call it a night. See y'all tomorrow.

 Evening Dinners!

 Flo, Beer Pleases!

Been a long day, but I am in pretty good spirits

Work Front Did a 12 hour day today in many regards not worth talking about. Dave the area supervisor was there as well today, and over all seemed pretty unhappy, hum my opening I thinks. At one point I was looking for something (remember the store I am helping at is not mine) he offered to show me where to find it. While we where walking to the store room I asked him what was wrong. Said "I Hate This Shop, it is a thorn in my side"! I asked him why? As we turned a corner he said "Lack Of Management"! Want to guess who was hiding in the stock room as he said it? WhistlingThe Manager! Laugh

Little later I threw my hat in the ring and told Dave, I want a shop! He did bring up my foot problem and I was complaining about a 40 hour week? Pointed out to him, I have all-wise asked for more hours, not less. Allso I have no problem walking and if there is a customer, I am standing! But, if there are no customers, I need to sit. Besides, manager sit 50% of there time in there offices doing needed paper work anyways.

So he is going to set up a new Aptitude Test (mine has expired) and if I pass it, I may get the shop! So wish me luck!

 See you all later!

Morning Coffee in the diner!

GOOD MORNING!!!

The prayer candles will remain lit as long as I am here Angel

SOmetimes someone tries to "Pull the WOOL over Our Eyes":

Meaning: TO attempt to, or to fool somone

Origin:

Goes back to the days when all gentlemen wore powdered wigs like the ones still worn by the judges in British courts. The word wool was then a popular, joking term for hair ... The expression 'pull the wool over his eyes' came from the practice of tilting a man's wig over his eyes, so he couldn't see what was going on."

Someone else might try "to steal your thunder":

Meaning:

To preempt; to draw attention away from someone else's achievement in favor of your own

Origin:

English dramatist John Dennis invented a gadget for imitating the sound of thunder and introduced it in a play in the early 1700s. The play flopped. Soon after, Dennis noted that another play in the same theater was using his sound-effects device. He angrily exclaimed, "That is my thunder, by God; the villains will play my thunder, but not my play." The story got around London, and the phrase grew out of it.

Have a GREAT day!

Good Morning!!!

Coffee and the Sunday Breakfast Buffet please. Thank you.

What? No joke today? Grumpy  (jk)

Ray- You’ve outdone yourself again this year on the holiday decorations. I haven’t even started yet. I suppose we’ll get the tree out of the basement today and go from there. Oh and:

Happy Birthday!!!!! ……uh……whenever. Yesterday, today, tomorrow.

Mornin Lee. Been alright? Just busy I hope.

Went to town yesterday. Aaaaaaall the way to the southwest corner of Springfield, past actually, to the Meijer’s store because Brenda ordered some photo thing on Fish snapping.com and that’s where we had to go. Waaaay out past Sam’s etc. Come back to Office Max, which is next to Sam’s, and pick up my ink and two pictures she ordered because Meijer’s (which is out past Sam’s) didn’t make them that size. Did I mention we were near Sam's? Did I mention we were there twice? oh Ok. Then off to a new Chinese Buffet out there...Confused..-ish (actually closer to mid town but no where near downtown). Not very good. Waitress didn’t greet with a smile and say “Hi how are you today?”  Had to tell her what I wanted to drink, they didn’t say “enjoy” before you blasted off to the buffet (tradition you know. Can't eat until she tells you to enjoy your meal) she just said “go ahead”. Didn’t ask if my food was good, took the empty plate but didn’t take any used napkins away. Did get a refill on my drink, but she didn’t ask if she could get me something from the buffet. She did say thank you when I payed the bill and she saw a tip was on the ticket, but only once. I'm used to vollies of please and thank you's just lobbed around almost as if to see who can be the politest. And, she didn’t even wave and say bye bye when we left. I think I’ll stick with Suki. Even Brenda said she was much better and the others were friendlier. And yes, she even admitted Suki smelled better. Oh, food? Well, that wasn’t too good either. It wasn’t bad, but they’re stuff wasn’t as full flavored as our regular place. Or the other place. Oddly enough, somewhat bland. Brenda agreed. They did have Egg Foo Yeung though. Not bad, but I prefer the gravy from another place.

Aaaanyway, got sidetracked, last night Brenda starts talking of “when we go to Sam’s tomorrow we need to…..” Indifferent I said “Sam’s. You mean the place we drove past twice yesterday?” She looked at me somewhat indifferent and said “yes.” I could tell she was coiled and ready to strike and in her mind she was in those moments when the big cat is circling it's prey looking for the right opportunity to attack. Then, in a bold move, she challenged me head on by saying “why?” Already weakened by an off handed comment I'fd made earlier about the waitress not offering to bring me some peaches and a neck rub like the “good waitresses I’m used to” and further hampered by the effects of a full stomach, I still had the wits about me to recognize the danger I was in if I wrecklessly responded to the inquisition from the hip. So with a display of pure brilliance that only years of experience through many failed attempts can garner, I quickly feigned and said “oh just making sure we’re talking about the same store.” She stated there was only one. Paree!! A comment I smartly ignored. Touche!! After a moment of silence, she apparently conceded to my decisive victory and she then proceeded to tell me what she wanted to get. All I heard was “wah wah wah wah wah”

Maybe they’ll have a decent mouse there.

Ya’ll have a good day, ya hear!!!!

Ray... First Happy BIRD DAY to EWE!!!  { Happy B-Day   Cake  Gift  }

Jeffrey- I know the feeling. WE are running extra gas running FIL around. I normally only fill up the Kia Sedona ONCE a month, this past month I filled it THREE times running FIL around. MOH says FIL will have to come up with some gas money to help us if he expects us to help him Of course, he will say {as he already has} "I want you to move in so then there will be less gas used!"...MOH will say NO {expletive removed} WAY!!! I second THAT emotion, er, rather MOTION.{maybe I really did Mean "emotion"}. Thye have more money ans assests, but now going to pay for paid nurses, so if hes got paid nurses, he doesn't need us running all the time. Even the drive to his house still uses gas, even if we took his car from there, {which I won't drive unless he puts me on insurance and then, I still wouldn't want to!}. He said he feels a NEED to get out of the house EVERYDAY...I don't go out every day, why should I run him? He is GOING to HAVE TO LEARN that grocery shopping is done ONCE A WEEK, NOT EVERY BLOODY DAY!!!

Whew Bang Head   SoapBox over.

Morning everyone.

Its snowing out at the moment, we got some on Friday that stuck around all day Saturday and today is adding to it. I put my parents christmas lights on the house yesterday and then when I got home the wife and I put up the tree and cleaned the house. It was a busy Saturday to say the least. Today I am just going to kick back and watch the last F1 race of the year and maybe watch some football later. Im going over to my parents again for dinner so dont need to bother cooking anything tonight. Well I have some laundry to do before the race. Take care.

Morning All,

Sitting in the back of the Diner drinking coffee with everyone else. Really nothing planned RR wise today. Later we are taking Mom out for her birthday and then cake at the house. MOH made enough for the Diner, so everyone is welcome....Even BarryLaugh. Tomorrow we are disconnecting DISH and installing PRISM at MOH continued insistence. I just finally gave in as I was tired of hearing about it. The new grand kids will be here later alsoBig Smile.

Yesterday MOH, I, Daughter and SIL drove in 2 pickups to the other side of Orlando to get a heavy wood swing set/slide/monkey bars/fort. We had to take it apart, load, unload, and put back together in my daughters yard. I was beat but we got it done. SIL had to go to work as soon as we unloaded it.

Jeff- Great logo on the truck. That's all folks....Whistling

Good morning. It's 53° with 48% humidity. Ground was white with frost at 7:15. It'll be mostly sunny with a high of 68°.

Went down this morning and looked after my mother for a couple of hours this morning. Nurse arrived at 8:45. By that time she'd had her breakfast, morning meds, blood sugar check, blood pressure check. That's pretty good considering I feel like crap today. We went the Buffet City last night for dinner. After I came home I took my night meds an dwent to bed. Half an hour later I was on the throne and spent most of the night there. Neither of my parents got sick and we all had the same things to eat. So I just have to believe it was a side effect complication of one or more of my meds. I got less than an hours sleep all night. So the plan for today is to go back to bed. The computer will be off so if anybody calls they're gonna get nothing but a message stating the number is not in service. I don't care if the world is burning down, the fire depts can put it out without me. I'm retired anyway!

Good Evening Gang!

It´s been a dull day, with dull thoughts on my mind. One of those days you´d better spent in bed instead of getting up.

Winter Blues Whistling

I did do some more design work on that row of houses. They were all looking too much alike, so I changed that to get a little more variety into that scene.

Afternoon folks!

Thanks for the Birthday wishes!  but...  You're a day early. LOL  We are celebrating it today as my son and his wife both have to do that nasty w*rk thing tomorrow.  Son says they are grilling steaks for me tonight.  Sat with the family at church today.  I was an usher today as well.

I plan on getting the few decorations I do put up around here for the season in place today before heading out to my son's house.  Have to finish the laundry as well.

Jeffrey, I like the truck!

Ulrich, nice row houses.

Later!

Evening guys

Work was eventful for today. One of the regular customers F-250 had a flat rear tire. On top of that he is deaf and can't speak. The girl I like (Brooke) was able to get him a paper to write down the problem. He had a full-size spare, but no jack. Me and Brooke went to our respective cars to get our jacks but she couldn't find hers. (I wish she would have, I think the one in her Explorer may be bigger than the one in my Mustang). The guy had already busted the lugnuts loose by jumping up and down on the tire iron (I was suprised for a dude who might be around 75-80). So I used my little hand-crank jack to get the truck up to change the tire. All 8 lugnuts were a bit tight on the threads (hand-turning was hard); but I managed to get the other tire on before the other co-workers needed my help. Some other customers finished tighting the lugnuts for me, and brought me my jack at the counter. The co-workers said I did a good deed.

When I was getting my jack, I noticed Brooke was resting the hatch of her Explorer on her head. After work I talked to her and took a look at it. One of the lift struts had apparently came off, and it was in the trunk. I went to see if it would compress and strech but it was stuck. I told her I could fix it, if she could get the part. I guessed 15-20 for one strut. I probably should have mentioned that I could get one out of a junkyard for her next time I go.

When I got home I put together my 2 GP38Xs and my 2 GP38-2s. The GP38-2s recieved new windshield wipers, and one had a new set of handrails. One of the GP38-2s had to be slightly modified for DCC, the other one I was gonna stick a beacon in. I didn't stick the beacon in because I don't have one ofthe right type that is cored (I have an old solid one, but I don't know if I'll be able to drill it out. I had a DH123 to stick in the new GP38-2, but it has a short in itself. So I need a decoder and maybe a harness and some beacons for this set. (ought to be fun, I don't see a way to put one into the Atlas GP38s in the right spot.

Ray, Happy Birthday

Jeff, I know what you mean. I have a friend who needs a ride all the time. She does have a way of paying me back, but sometimes I just want the cash/

Vincent

Wants: 1. high-quality, sound equipped, SD40-2s, C636s, C30-7s, and F-units in BN. As for ones that don't cost an arm and a leg, that's out of the question....

2. An end to the limited-production and other crap that makes models harder to get and more expensive.

 Evening Dinners

Flo, I take a Beer and will pick up Birthday Boys Tap. Cake

Curt, thank you for noticing I threw my hat in the ring for a Store Manager Slot

Work Front While we where not real busy, I had a very solid day! Had 3 fluid exchanges, 3 three year alignment plans, a $500.00 rear brake job (that was priced fairly) and some odds and ends.Tyler (Manager) was very pleased and text-ed Dave ( Area Supervisor ) that I was the hero of the Day with half the stores sales! Cool Sure does not hurt with me hitting up Dave yesterday for a Manager Slot! Big Smile

I am off Monday and Tuesday! Big Smile Monday there is really nothing planed so maybe I can get some train stuff done.

Vince, I have not forgotten your PM. With some luck I will get what you have asked about done.

  See you all later

  Ken

Haven't been able to get much rest today. Seems like every time I close my eyes my head starts spinning like an E ride at Disneyland! Yeah, I still feel like crap and I don't see things being any better tomorrow.

Time to call it a night. See y'all tomorrow.

Evenin' folks!

Janie, just a decaf...  and maybe another piece of Birthday cake.  It's OK, I just took my blood sugar reading and it was all of 99!  Can't believe it after to dinner I packed away tonight.

Had a great time at my Son's house this evening.  He grilled huge steaks outside, while the ladies baked potatoes, made a nice tossed salad, baked home made bread, baked squash, a sweet corn dish, and then a fresh baked cake for dessert.  The fire extinguisher was nearby, but the granddaughters and I got them all blown out the first time, we did!  Tomorrow (my actual birthday) my son is taking me to lunch with granddaughter #2.

I am almost concerned at how low my blood sugar readings have been for the past several days.  The highest reading since Thanksgiving has been 100...  As long as it doesn't get too low I will stay a happy man.

Ken, thanks for getting the tab for my dessert, and I do hope you finally will get your own store.  You deserve some good luck and you certainly have done your best under some trying circumstances!

Jeffrey, hope you are felling better tomorrow!

I just got an email tonight telling me application for the NMRA volunteer certificate is on its way to national for the final check.  This will be certificate #5 That means I have done all the difficult ones I will need and now just have to do a couple more impossible ones...

Prayers for all in need!
