Ray {SPMan}

I missed your joining us here in the diner!!!

Consider this another big fat Welcome !!!

Well got my FIL ot the hospital, now MOH will get him home.

Tried to get our HEAP application for winter heat assistance, but the office was, of course, closed! How DARE they!!! Have to get the application in for food stamps too...

Went to my father's to take him dinner.

Now we still have to figure out how to care for MIL and do it on limited money. It woudl be easy if they qualified for Medicaid.

Well, I am EXHAUSTED....so I go for nap.

Good Afternoon All, A quiet Thanksgiving here on the island. Cooked lobsters, shrimp stuffing, yeast rolls, and had pumpkin pudding. Nice thing---no leftovers for the next five days. Cold front coming in, wind is SSE X E, low scud clouds overhead showing a lot of wind coming, two, three hours probably. Temp 54, so will not have to shovel, signed hopeful. The lobster catch defies logic. Average catch for the gang is just over 1000 pounds a day. Price dropped again, down to 2.70 a pound. The last Fall that I fished was in 74, and I got 3.25 a pound. The only thing the fishermen have going for them is the amount being caught. Fuel and bait is running around 700 a day, to haul around 400 traps. Gone are the days of ripping down the bay at 35 MPH. Most jog down at 10-12 MPH to save on fuel burn. 5-6 GPH vs. 32-38. Have started to overhaul the tracks on the layout, relocating six turnouts, and redesigning my siding yard. About the time I have decided how I want things to look, I see somthing that someone else has built that makes more sence, and am back at square one. Prayers for all in need, herrinchoker

Evening guys,

Work went well.  I got off at work close to when I was scheduled, 10 minutes later is close for them. lol. I also asked the one girl I work with that I like out on a date (we've hung out as friends once, and she hugged me [I wasn't expecting it]) and she said yes. So now to find a time when we can go to dinner. But she got upset with me when I mentioned trying to get a job at the local customization (aka, wanna be speed-shop) as her ex and all his friends work there. Then I remembered their is another shop like that closer to me. I'll check them out whenever I'm off again.

I got home and I couldn't find my airbrush. I looked all over the place for about 2 hours and finally found it. In the garage under the bench. But it's already getting dark out so I'll just use it tomorrow after going to the MR club.

Galaxy, Since you're FILs car doesn't have a distributor, why not disconnect the starter? Or replace his key with one that doesn't work? Personally I think there are quite a bunch of people driving who shouldn't be allowed to drive around here. The Liscense test around here is just drive around the block once (which is all low speed, just set the automatics in drive and go) and park. No limits on how many tries to park... No vision test, no driving in traffic, no tests for road hazards or rough conditions, no road manners, etc.

Hope no one throws anything at me for this one: I live behind a retirement community (as in I have to pass the exit/entrance to go to work) and I think about 1-2 thirds of the people that live their shouldn't be driving. There is a corner right before the exit and more often than not they pull out without looking, and only go up to 20. The speed limit is 45 on the main road. The other day I had to slam the brakes to avoid one pulling out right in front of me. Boy was I glad I had ABS at the time. Don't get me started on drivers who don't move over either... Okay flo, getting off the soap box...

Ken, Check PMs

Question for the dinners: Anyone here assemble and accurail kits recently? I've been trying to get a bunch of the dummy couplers they include in the kits.

Vincent

Wants: 1. high-quality, sound equipped, SD40-2s, C636s, C30-7s, and F-units in BN. As for ones that don't cost an arm and a leg, that's out of the question....

2. An end to the limited-production and other crap that makes models harder to get and more expensive.

Evening All,

Was a pretty busy day yesterday but as a station we were all able to sit and eat a Thanksgiving dinner together. MOH said the supper at our house with the family went well also. Sunday we are celebrating my Mom's 77th birthday. She wants to go to her favorite Mexican restaurant then back to the house for cake.

Packer- Sorry, I have made several but I throw away the couplers.

Hope everyone has a good night and prayers for those in need.

 Evening Folks!

Flo, Beer Pleases and I buy SP Man one as well.

Work / Stealing from Me Front. Been a interesting day to day! When Tyler (my current manager that I like) got to the shop today we checked a few of my tickets that had spiffs attached to the sells. In the short time I was there, we found the following!

Jamie She only stole 1 for $15.00!

Jason Services Manager He stole 2 of my tickets for $45.00!

So I have only been at the new shop for 3 days and I had been ripped off for ONLY $60.00! What is it with the people that work here anyway? We where going reach more of my tickets when I got sent to another store.

Seems one of the Idiot Mangers I tried to train (note I said tried, he was the one I found watching TV in the customer lounge when I was trying to find him) has stopped showing up for work after he got a shop? Whistling So today I had to cover for him.

I am either getting fired or getting a Shop Saturday! I work at the above shop again Saturday. I am going to put Dave (area supervisor) on front street! (he will be there Saturday) Either give me a Store or Fire me! I know more about tires and cars than jackasses he is is giving stores or making services mangers and if I am not at work, I am in the hospital!

At this point, I really feel like I have nothing to lose. So far this job has been a

Train WreckBang Head I was hired to be a manager, not a counter person!

No Flo, that one picture is not of trains making baby trains.

  See you all Saturday!

Curt, it's alright. I'm looking for the non-operating ones. Intresting GP7 on switcher trucks.

I got a loco in the mail. A P2K Gp38-2. It's an early Gp38-2; my other GP38-2 is a late phase. I started to work on modifying it for DCC, but I realized one thing. I need to get some more micro-bulbs and details west beacons... I have 2 that have bulbs in them, but they are going to the GP38Xs. (If there boards don't support extra functions, I just turn the rear light to the beacon.

The fun part will be speed matching the 2 Gp38-2s, the 2 GP38Xs, my GP15-1, and my Gp30 2250. I should probably get a sound decoder to stuff in a GP38X or 38-2.

Morning coffee in the diner

GOOD MORNING!!!

Sometimes it is hard to Get A Word in Edgewise:

Meaning: Join a conversation in which another is speaking continually and leaving little opportunity for others

Origin:

S'A word in edgeways', or as it is sometimes written 'a word in edgewise', is a 19th century expression that was coined in the UK. 'Edgeways/edgewise' just means 'proceeding edge first'. The allusion in the phrase is to edging sideways through a crowd, seeking small gaps in which to proceed through the throng. The phrase 'edging forward' exactly describes this inch-by-inch progress. It was first used in the 17th century, typically in nautical contexts and referring to slow advance by means of repeated small tacking movements, as here in Captain John Smith's The generall historie of Virginia, New-England and the Summer Isles 1624:

After many tempests and foule weather, about the foureteenth of March we were in thirteene degrees and an halfe of Northerly latitude, where we descried a ship at hull; it being but a faire gale of wind, we edged towards her to see what she was.

This practice of 'edging' was used with reference to the spoken word by David Abercromby, in Art of Converse, 1683:

Without giving them so much time as to edge in a word.

The first example I have found of 'a word in edgeways' in print is from the one-act play Twelve precisely! or, A night at Dover, 1821. The names of the lead characters, Amelia Wildlove and Sir Ferdinand Frisky, give a sense of the nature of the play:

Sir F. (Aside.) Curse me, if I can get a word in edgeways!

Joke of the day:

A Jewish grandmother is giving directions to her grown grandson who is coming to visit with his wife.
"You come to the front door of the apartment. I am in apartment 301 . There is a big panel at the front door.
With your elbow, push button 301. I will buzz you in. Come inside, the elevator is on the right.
Get in, and with your elbow push 3. When you get out, I'm on the left. With your elbow, hit my doorbell."
"Grandma, that sounds easy, but, why am I hitting all these buttons with my elbow?
"What ... You coming empty handed?"

The prayer csndles will be lit while I am at home today.Angel

Peace, health and happiness to everyone

Lunchtime!

Flo, I´ll go for a bowl of Galaxy´s Polish chili verde soup, and a coffee, please.

It´s a cold and foggy day. Temperatures are not above 34F and visibility is below 50 ft. A day to stay put at home.

I spent the morning preparing the scale drawings for my next project. It is going to be the half-timbered community hall in the center of my layout. Construction will be easy, once i have that mini circular saw - without it, it´ll be a chore. The only thing that still escapes my imagination is how to build that thatched roof I´d like to have for that house. Time will tell.

I´ll be able to use the drawing as a template, which eases construction a lot. Make a print, glue it to .5 mm cardboard, cut the openings, and start to glue to scale timber in the respective places - that´s about all.

Have a good day!

OzJim, I ran that kph that you mentione - 120mph? SurpriseWow No wonder they were out of glass for a long time. You got me curious though - are there local glassmakers in Australia? I have seen photos of one of the desert areas down there, but don't know what types/kinds of sand are needed to make good glass.

Yes it was in Km/h.

We have lots of glass makers in Australia. We do have the right sands etc for the glass making. We have lots of desert too Big Smile

JR is about 950km from where I am. It would be great to catch up with a fellow diner. Maybe next time!!

I hope everyone enjoyed their thanksgiving and ate plenty of turkey.

Ken: Good to see your toe is holding up so far.

SPRay: Welcome to the diner!

Ulrich: I'll come visit you someday, and buy you and Petra dinner.

Hope everyone is doing a-ok.

Mornin' everyone!

Zoe, I'll have the Breakfast Buffett this morning and a cup of dark roast coffee in a FGLK mug please and thank you, Ma'am!

It is 33°F outside here in the Finger Lakes this morning.  Combination of clouds and sun and lots and lots of wind.  Wind gusting to 26 mph which is getting rid of all the last of the leaves hanging onto their trees around here.  Had a dusting of the white dust on the ground early this morning... Just enough to remind us it is almost December.  Need to get all the holiday decorations out and see if I have better luck with them this year than I usually do!

May even find some time to get down to the train room as well.  (I do have to do my laundry, and there is a good reason to have to be down cellar.)

Later!

Well, well

Took FIL to hospital to see MIL. SHe's not doing so hot. SHe's been sleeping and unresponsive lately, The nurse {yestgerday} says "well she was awake and "ate well" for us" {yeah right....1/2 a banana and a 4 oz ucp of cranberry Juice?? That's eating well??}. But the last 3 dyas I have been there she was sleping...and today she was trying to vomit in her sleep.Of course she didn;t actually bring anythig up so....they don't believe she is actually gagging!

FIL said "I hope they evaluate her and don't just send her home tomorrow"...I WHOLEHEARTEDLY AGREE. I will call MOH when out of work to remind MOH to tell FIL to DEMAND she get evaluated and "not just sent home"......Hospice frespite care  ends tomorrow....

They don't do much for them in the hospital especially on weekends...when skeleton crew is on....

Well, I have a migraine setting in wihte the drastic 20F degree difference in weather and change in wind patterns to bring on nasty northern winds!

Well

I take some meds and go lie down...

I was hoping to have this posted a little earlier but Suddenlink went and dropped the signal TWICE in FIVE minutes! And they wonder why I'm ticked off with them!

Good morning, or afternoon depending on where you are. It's 49°F with 49% humidity. It'll be mostly sunny with a high of 58°F.

Well it was my job to watch my mother from 7am to 9am this morning. The nurse would be there at 9 am. Well 9am came and went. No nurse. I had already gotten my mothers breakfast and medicine for her, checked her blood sugar and administered the required amount of insulin. My father called at 9:30 and was somewhat surprised the nurse hadn't showed. He called her and inquired. It was her understanding she wasn't to be there until 2 pm. Talk about getting wires crossed. She finally arrives at 10:45. I for one was very happy she was there. There's not much I can do for my mother other than watch her, get her meals and meds. I can't even roll her over. That requires someone who can keep their balance to a large extent. It also hurts me very bad when I try doing anything like that. That's why it took over a day to remove th front of my kitchen cabinet, an area less than two feet wide.

Now I'm back home and any plans I had for today are going to have to wait until I feel up to it. I hope the rest of you are having a better day.

I really enjoy passenger trains which is funny because the railroad I model didn't have any passenger trains for longer than a year after the merger, welp I guess they will now once I start my next bigger layout. just got to get that other BN passenger train. come on next friday, come on!

That requires someone who can keep their balance to a large extent. It also hurts me very bad when I try doing anything like that.

Jeffrey,

I sympathize/empathize with you. I grew up taking care of my mother, who had Multiple sclerosis and eventually over time became a quadriplegic with a loss of vocal skills and loss of vision. When My father retired I was able to move out and start a life that was independent of theirs.

Now, of course, you know we are dealing with my 85 y/o MIL. She had a stroke {major one} about 15 years ago and now is in pretty bad shape. I can only do about what you can for your mother...only my foot is not as bad as yours it is just my back is so bad and my asthma causes me to wheeze and gasp for air. I can't even carry the heavy groceries in to the house...i leave those for MOH unless they will freeze... then I carry them in over about 1 hour or so bag by single bag.

Its a good thing MOH and i neither of us has kids, or we might be raising them at he same time trying to take care of aging parents!

Getting old is pure {you know}. and I don't know what will happen to MOH and I when /if we get that old.

After long and careful thought, they have convinced me. I have come to the conclusion that they are right. The aliens did it.
