Evening All,

Had chicken for supper. Flo can I have a cup of coffee please.

Finished hooking up the lights. I initially tried to power them using a 12V power supply but they did not work. I then hooked up a 16 V power supply and bingoBig Smile.

I think my trip to Disney is canceled for tomorrow. MOH said she was not going to force me to go on my off day. If we stay at home I think I will run all my locos through JMRI to make sure all the current settings are saved.

Hope everyone has a good night and prayers for those in need.

CDN Dennis- I don't have any experience with the older TT's but I have heard a lot of negatives about them. Although the TT I use is DCC programmable I control it by analog. I was afraid I would quickly become overloaded trying to control it on a throttle as I am pretty much a analog kind of guy. You may have problems finding a new TT, I believe they did not make enough to keep up with demand. If you are mechanically inclined Custom Model Railroads has build it yourself kits in a good variety of sizes. Lee built one and is happy with it. I am not sure the track degree spread is the same but they have RH kits also.

Thanks for the point in the right direction Curt Thumbs Up

Good evening all,

A cold Heinekin sounds good right 'bout now.  And as the sun sets here in the Gateway to the West I have relented to the perils of a cold floor and flannel pajamas and fired up the furnace for the winter.  All is not as I expected....the circulating pump is making more noise than I remember.

On a brighter note, band rehearsal went well this morning.  It was a curious mix of instruments....acoustic guitar, electric bass, synthesizers, electronic drums and a 5' Yamaha Disklavier grand piano.  High point of the morning was an impromptu men's quartet gathered around the piano singing old hymns in 2.5 part harmony.

Finally found a photo of Delaware & Hudson GP38-2 7325 in solid blue paint with silver trucks, the only Geep to get that paint scheme.  Let the modelling begin!

Well I'm back in business. It was a family affair. The guy from the electric company showed up to cut the power and went on his way to other calls. My father located a new service pole, my niece paid for it and her husband went to DeRidder to pick it up. Then he and one of my nephews friends dug a three and a half foot hole to stand the pole in. The boxes and associated hardware were attached to the pole. I made sure the wiring of the boxes and the service plug were OK and my nieces husband fitted the insulator to the top of the pole. My niece called the electric company guy back and he came and reconnected the lines. I turned on the service breakers one by one. No sparks flying. Everything is working.

Evening all. Glad to hear some are doing well, pulling for others to get to a good place. Flo, you got a Moosehead back there? It is the weekend after all...

Jeff - I see one of two things that could have happened during your power troubles. Either your grumble, pull on boots, and go start the backup generator, or (like me) you huddle in the dark and make dinging and chuffing noises as you push trains around manually. Good to hear it's pretty much solved for you.

Curt - Sorry for your loss; we will definitely be praying for your loss and for the drive. Come back and talk at us soon!

As for the gang in Hope, all is good. The kids have friends in from out of town, the wife is working, and Stu gets to burn nachos for dinner. All is good. Have a safe and trainy evening all!

Evenin' folks!

Janie, my usual cup of decaf wiuld be most appropriate right now...  Thanks you Ma'am.

Ulrich!  Please know I am keeping you in my prayers for a quick recovery, and do make sure the somehow Petra lets us know how you are doing!

Had a very pleasant day on the rare milage special rail fan trip on the LA&L today.  It was a sold out trip and the Museum should have brought in some serious $$$ today.  Very well organized and executed!  Only thing that was the pits was the weather, although it looks like it was the best day we will have around here for the next week or so.  Couple photos from today.  We did several run by photo shoots.  Notice it is an Alco in the lead... Whistling

At the R&GV Musuem, they staged Beebee Station 1941 on the hill as the LA&L was stopped by the siding where the Empire State Express is kept.

The cars in the Empire State Express we have were put into service on December 7, 1941...  Ring a bell for anyone?  Here is all except 2 up in the restoration building area (9 cars in all).  The ones on the left still have a massive amount of work to be done to put them back in service.

Oh!  The old B&O Heavyweight Baggage car is our tool car and not part of the train...

We are under a High Wind watch here for the next few days:  "WINDS... NORTH TO NORTHEAST 35 TO 45 MPH WITH GUSTS 55 TO 65 MPH. STRONGEST WINDS ALONG THE SOUTH SHORE OF LAKES ONTARIO AND ERIE AND POSSIBLY ACROSS HIGHER TERRAIN."   And a Flood Watch as well.  There is a potential for 2 to 3 inches of rain Monday afternoon through Tuesday evening....  Winds from the North to Nortyheast are not usual here so they expect a lot of downed trees and powerlines.  "Oh Joy, oh Rapture!"

Hope all of you in the path of Sandy stay safe!  Prayers for all in need...

Busy day for me today. First moved the stuff from my fridge down to one of the fridges at my parents place. Then with a lot of help from family got the power problem taken care of. All that while my right leg was beyond the point of surrender. I was on it a lot today but what else could I do. I can hardly walk now and it's probably going to be hurting very badly in the morning. I have the heater turned on low tonight. It's 46 and is supposed to get down to 38 tonight. It never got over 59 today.

Time to call it a night. See y'all tomorrow. I'll probably be to the point of crawling.

Evening All, boy Bills' cup of coffee looks good, but I'll settle for a hot chocolate, to go with a slice of my daughters banana cake, otherwise I'll be up all night.

Was a good day, even though I got called out to w**k this morning. Driving home around lunchtime, needed the air con on for the first time this spring. Managed to get the lawn mowed before it turned into cow pasture, they need mowing once a week now. and dug a stump out from the garden. Also time to shed the "winter coat" so got a haircut.

Managed to get the last coat of paint on one batch of 6 removable coal loads I'm making.

Thoughts and Best Wishes to those affected by "Sandy" , those with health issues, and those who just need them.

Cheers, and nite, the Bear.

Good morning. It's 38° with 97% humidity which makes it feel even colder. A northwest wind off the lake isn't helping matters any. It'll be mostly sunny with an expected high of 65°.

Cold out here on the side of the lake this morning. I'm glad I have heat. Nothing much going on today. I'll be getting my stuff from my parents fridge and bring it back up here to mine. Right now all the food I have is rice, some chili and a few pasta dinners. There may be some layout work today but I somehow doubt it. My right leg is hurting so badly I can't hold my weight on it for long. I think the bulk of my activity today will be watching some movies.

 Morning All

Flo, big cup of coffee pleases.

Not sure if I have to work today? Called the St Charles store last night and Scott said he was told I would be back in my store. Called my store and spoke with Chris and he said he was told I would not be working there this week? So I will call this morning and ask Eric if he wants me to come in.

Sort of hope he does not have me come in today. Still a little under the weather and there are somethings I need to get done.

Jeffery, glad to hear you have some family you can count on!

Some explorers come to a jungle village. All night and day they can hear the sound of drums. The leader of the expedition asks the chief of the village "Why can we hear drums?" The chief responds "Drum good. When drums stop, very bad".
One day, the drums stop. All the natives come out screaming and shouting. The expedition leader grabs hold of a boy and asks him "What is the fuss?!" The boy responds "Drums stop very bad..when they stop.......BASS SOLO!"

Heading in for awhile.

Good Morning!!!

Coffee and the Sunday Breakfast buffet please and thank you.

I’ll just set this pot of chili here so’s ya’ll can just help yourself whenever the mood strikes. Now it’s a beef chili with tomatoes, not a tomato chili with beef and yes it has beans. Not too hot. So Jeff’ll need some hot sauce, but it does have a little heat. Not enough to take the flavor away though. I don’t need to prove how hot I can make chili. I like to eat the stuff, not brag about the burn. The buffet has all the add ons you may want like chopped raw onion, shredded cheeses and crackers. I brought in a stack of flour tortillas too in case anyone wants. They are my usual choice instead of crackers.

Dennis- Sorry, you misunderstood Tom. He’s the retired Firefighter, I’m a retired DoD mechanic.

Barry- Awww nuts. We’ll, I guess it’s not uncommon. I was just hoping….well, still praying for you.

Ken- Not just the Navy, have ran into it from all branches. It’s the personality. Usually they were a nobody in the service and now they can be somebody by playing the part. "Look at me I’m cool, I’m hard, I’m a Vet. Sorry, that’s the way I was trained." OOOORAH!!!(or however you spell it). They’re lacking something and are making up for it. My usual response is, “bet you went far in the (insert branch) didn’t you.” Ask ‘em why they got out. Sometimes it’s a real cool storyYes Confused, most times it’s a thinly vailed thing that screams couldn’t cut it. Most times. There are others who were that way in the Service too.

Ulrich- Extra strong prayers for you. Keep us informed the best you can.

Welp, still tiling the shower. Distractions you know. Just my luck. Anywho, I should have it done inside early today (lots of cuts is another reason it takes so long). Yard needs mowed too and some stuff outside. Will try to worm that stuff in this week.

Prayers to all those to be affected by Sandy. Hope she peter’s out.

Ya’ll have a good day, ya hear!!!!

Good Afternoon!

It is a cold, but sunny day today. Temperatures are not much above freezing - thank goodness no snow yet. Did not do much today - I am feeling all weak. Toyed with some more ideas on that planned layout of mine, which I hope to be able to build.

Just for those of you who collect my plans:

Well, it´s back to the sofa for me now - have a good one!

Mornin' everyone!

Zoe, coffee to go, dark roast and super size it!

I will be leaving for the Museums shortly.  I will be giving the Troop a tour out in the cold rain...  To co0mplicate things, there is a great article in the Rochester Democrat and Chronicle the morning so they gthink we may have a busy day again today...  Wonderfull! Whistling  Everyone is pretty much worn out from the excursion yesterday and the weather today is not going to be good...

I will get myself out of there ASAP this afternoon to come home and batten down the hatches on the home front.  We are now under a high wind warning for Monday afternoon and Tuesday Morning as well as a flood watch.  High likelihood electric will be out for a while.  If my house holds together, at least I have the wood stove, gas heaters that don't need electric, and the inverter in the truck that will give me some emergency power.  I just moved the truck over to the lawn on the other side of the house so it is not nnear any trees that could make a dent or two...  Also closer to the cellar entrance should I need the inverter to operate the sump pump.

Flip, Yep, I increased the insurance on the house to cover the panels a month ago.  And yes I sure hope I don't need to use it!!!

Got to get going, feed the cats their lunch early and stop at the drug store to pick up Niacin on my way to the museums.

Stay safe everyone!

Later!

Well, my trip to the train show at Timonium is over for another year. We left home on Friday, stayed overnight at Camp hill, PA. Stopped in for a short visit with my niece and her family, which was followed by dinner and a movie. Saturday we drove down to the show where I picked up a B&O Budd RDC and a B&O "wagon top" by Fox Valley. Walked around the show twice while the wife waited for me in the refreshment area. Then we both walked around the building containing all the layouts. Wow, there is some beautiful and impressive work being done out there. After breakfast this morning, we got on the PA Turnpike for the drive back to Pittsburgh.

Are some people taking "Sandy" serious? I would say so. On our 3 hour drive on the turnpike we counted over 450, yes 450, utility trucks headed east. About 75 of them were tree service trucks. Now considering that we only were on that one highway for only 3 hours, I can't imagine how many total would be involved for the entire east coast. Quite a logistacal undertaking by any stretch of the imagination. I was very impressed and think we all owe an expression of thanks to those responsible. Oh yeah, we saw about 20 ambulances in groups of 3 to 5 headed east as well.

Anyway, that was my weekend. And a fine one it was. Now it's nap time I think. Hope everyone has a good one and stays safe.  Tom

We ARE taking it seriously. If the assumed model path is taken, the center of it will head our way and on up to RAY's way.. The stores are out of many food items, and camping supplies have been stripped bare.

I HOPE some of those trucks are headed up here as if Irene and tropical storm Lee were any indication last year in September, we WILL need all the help we can get,. I am curious, did you recognize any power company names and areas they are from??  I am wondering who is sending help.

The assumed path is wider than that of Irene and Lee.

If I am missing in action for a few days, it will MOST likely be because we are without power, I Expect to be without power for 5 days, and loose two freezers full of food. we have a generator, but no shelter under which to safely run it, so it it rains rains rains we won't be able to use it. we have'nt any "dog house" to run it in, or any porch that isn't enclosed to run it on.

A train Horn is blasting in the distance on the other side of the river, must be something/someone on the tracks...blew it about 20 times!
we will see what happens next!

Be SAFE all you in the storms path, and prayers for your safety will be said, whether I am online or not!

If they're smart they are! I have a friend who lives in that area. The last time I talked to him (Friday) he and his family were packing and getting out. Where? Anyplace that was out of the storms path!
