Gidday All, Just a hot chocolate before bed please.

After watching the great powerhouse video that blownout cylinder posted last night this was on a local evening news show earlier tonight. If you like steam, ships and railways you might enjoy this. I don't think that the railway connection is actually mentioned but the TSS Earnslaw was owned and operated, as part of the network, by the New Zealand Government Railways from 1912 to 1968.

Good morning, Diners.  A large coffee, Chloe, and I will be off to work.

Welcome John.

Terry, Nice photos.  Adding diaphragms is a good idea.

Jeffrey, We had plenty of rain last night too.  That's a good start.

Yesterday, I finally got my car shop walls together.  I also finished the doors.  I will try to get a progress photo sometime this week.

Later,  Sue

Good morming.

John R .... All scales are welcome..... 1:1 too. .... We have even had live steam in here in the past. It would be nice to see some of your good stuff.

BN 24 ..... Welcome. Enjoy the conversations.

Terry .... I have used the Walthers basic rubber diaphragms on F-units. They do not fit well but when units are coupled, they are not too noticeable. ..... I have also used American Limited diaphragms which are much better. Currently listed in Walthers are American Limited diaphragms for Athearn Genesis F-units, but they should work well on other makes of F-units. .....

Our company is here. I ran trains. No derailments but I shut down the DCC system while running the BLI Blues Line E7's with CZ passenger train. Time to add a booster I guess.

Cheers

Burlington Northern #24

just curious can one just jump right in and join this discussion or is it a private group?

Step RIght Up..and a big fat Welcome to you!!!

Anyone can join. Just jump in and chat with us..we won't bite! You'll get to know who are regulars around here and who are mere visitors.

The waitresses will gladly take anyone's "money" or "credit card" for "food ordered".

Just be on  the lookout for bouncers like cousin Vinnie... he can bend crows bars one handedly!

Talk about your day, life, aches and pains etc.

A BIG FAT Welcome to ALL the recent Newcomers!!!

Here are the rules for the newbies:

There is only ONE Diner here

No politcis, religious or other flame war topics

No foul language..including squiggles {##&&%(} ... as my mother used to say {may she rest in peace} "you can find a better way to express yourself". This IS still a family site and we DO have younger readers in here!

If you post pics, our hosts prefer only one or two, any more and they like you to do it in the Weekend Photo Fun page {WPF} {something about bandwidth or something}

You CAN post pics that are NOT MRRing or Train related, but NO RISQUE pics!{the family thing again. of course and we respect that highly}

NO RISQUE Jokes!

You CAN post about topics NOT MRRing or Train related

Tell Us about yourself if you'd like!

Tell Us about your day/week/month!

If you get the top of the page posting..you have to "buy" all the posters on the page their meals..."money" or "credit cards" are accepted...and remember a 10% TIP is a cheapskate, a 15% is a OK tipper, and 18-20% is a good tipper!

ALL our food comes with NO calories, NO cholesterol, and Is always prepared just the way you like it or the "way MOM made it".

NO pinching the waitstaff...the bouncers will bounce you!

The diner gets moved once a month {again that pesky bandwidth business} to a new place in a new month. So search the last day late or early next day for the NEW diner!

That about covers IT!

Oh, the one religious thing allowed is to have special thoughts and prayers for those here sick, ailing or passing or family/friends doing so. I keep a prayer candle lit often as part of MOH's ministerial duties, so I am often asked to light a special one for somebody here. I do so if i can in real life. One DOES NOT need to be religious to have Special thoughts for someone ailing!

Start the Morning, PLEASE!!!

got it, I work in a restaurant anywho so tips are automatic. besides MRRing I'm into military vehicles(aircraft), history, and star wars. thanks for letting me in.

Morning guys,

Wow did the temp drop over night, from 19c to 8c in about 10 hours.

Just got home from the interview. It went great everything they are looking for I have alot of experience in and I think the supervisor was a great guy and I think he is interested in me. Here is the problem now...

I am still waiting on another place I applied too, they have called my references so I hope that is a good sign. So I dont know what to do if I have both places call? they both seem great but the place I went to today for the interview is part time and $3 less as apposed to the other which is full time and benefits and holidays. I dont know what I would do If I was fortunate to have a couple places wanting me?

As nice as this fellow was today I think I would have to take the full time job because I want the health benefits for the wife and not want her to worry about money.

Welcome Burlington Northern #24.Welcome

Jerome: If faced with two offers you have the option of taking the one you like best or taking the one that will be better for you. A full time job brings steady hours, benefits and usually better pay.

Good morning. It's 64° with 78% humidity. It'll be most sunny and the high will be 82°.

Seems like I picked up someones cold. Hopefully I can get rid of it quickly. I'll be be doing more work on the gallery structure today. I hope to get the roof sections measured out and ready to cut.

Good Afternoon!

Well, the weather did not turn out as nice as we were hoping it would. There are some spells of sunshine in between the showers of rain, with the temperature not above 40 F. Not really nice!

Janie, some coffee and a blueberry muffin to munch on, please.

I am just glad that quite a number of new folks are showing up here. Since we have so many MIA´s, there are vacant seats which need to be filled Smile, Wink & Grin

I was able to snap a few quick shots of what I have been doing the last few days. The modules are more o less finished - there are a few missing bits and pieces, which will most likely remain missing, as I hate to ode them from Japan. The platform needs to be populated, the roads need signs, and a few guard rails and fences should be put in place. If I order that stuff in Japan, shipping will be double the cost of the material Grumpy

Well, here are the pictures:

Don´t ask me what is written on the signs on the buildings - I hope it is something decent!

I would take the fulltime job with benies. I would be hard pressed to pass that up in favor of unstable part time lower pay no benies. I woudl have to LIKE the part time job SOOOOO much better and NOT like the full time just to get past the offerings of the full time job.

+here is where you will have a problem. Murphy style; the part time job will call and say "you've got the job can you start tomorrow" and THEN after you DO start the part time job  {cause of no firm offer from the fulltime company} the fulltimers will call!  THAT is when you will have a difficult positon to be in!

Thanks for the advice Galaxy ( Did you ever get my PM regarding your furnace problem? how did that work out )

I think If the part time job calls first then I will definitely work there until maybe the full time place calls. At least I would still have a job. Knowing my luck If I sit on my hands waiting for the full time place to call they wont, lol

Mornin' everyone!

Zoe, I'll have the #2 special this morning...  Over easy eggs, bacon, home fries, and a double order of the sour dough bread toast.  please and thank you Ma'am!

I see some new faces around the place...  Welcome to all!

Currently 61°F here in the Finger Lakes Region, with a high of 63° later this afternoon.  Wouldn't be a bad day except there are a lot of clouds in the sky.  The sun does peek through from time to time.

I will be up to my armpits in alligators most of the day trying to get a bunch of things done and gather some info as to why a Doctors visit a year ago (right after I got Medicare) was refused...  It may be because the original card was under my late wife's SS# and I got a new card right about that time?  I will be calling the very big Doctors Consortium to see what the business office can enlighten me with.  I expect to be told, "I dunno..."  I also found out the Code Officer can't come over and inspect the installation until he gets the remaining paperwork form the installer.  Something I can get done is the house cleaning!  I sure does need it!

Later!

73

Ray Seneca Lake, Ontario, and Western R.R. (S.L.O.&W.) in HO

We'll get there sooner or later!

Afternoon All,

Lazy kind of day. Went to Chiro this morning then made a appointment on next Monday for a MRI. My Doc  wants to  check my bone density as some of  my hormones are a little out of  whack. Got home and  vacuumed the house and hooked up the new power distribution buss and power supply under the layout so when the yard lights come in they are ready for hookup. I go back to w**k tomorrow. My regular partner is on a cruise and one of the people I am working with I really do not like but luckily it  is on my 8 hour day instead  of a 16 hour one.

Great news about my friend. He has been taken off the vent, is able to sit up and has started to eat solid food. Thank you all for your prayers.

I'm taking my Mom and Dad out to dinner tonight and MOH has a quilting class so I will try to check in later.

Hope everyone has a great day and prayers for those in need.

I think the last pair I ever bought were 20 dollars.

Two pairs for $200? My last pair cost $700. But mine have to be custom made.

That is exactly why I refuse to buy running shoes!!!!!!!!!!! Last pair of Nike's I bought were $145 and that has to be twenty years ago at Sports Check. Used them in the shop because of the concrete but now I just buy Dr Scroll's Jell insoles for a pair of jump boots I have left over from the Fire Service years and they work way better.

Any "Running Shoes" I buy now would be "Slow Walkers" anyway and I'd get them from Pay Less for $30 bucks. Angel

I'm in work boots probably 12 hours a day at work

Used to be the same for me. I was working in a warehouse and steel toed work boots were a must. Now I can't wear any footwear other than the custom made stuff I have to get. I don't have a choice.

My feet are cold already. so SHOES? I USED to spend a lot on expensive shoes, THINKING they were "better for my feet", but I found the $30 version to work just as well.

Now I don't walk nearly as much as I used to when I was working, but Even then -always worked 2 jobs- one pair would last me about 3 years.

I have bought a few pairs of the Wally World specials for $12.95, but found the Dr. Scholls $30 a pr at Wally World are OK.

Now I need to break out my fuzzy over-socks to keep my feet warm for the chilly nights we are having. It ain't even winter and already I am using the heating pad on my feet to warm them up. My Mother {may she rest in peace} always claimed to have cold feet and used a hot water bottle or heating pad too.

I know the circulation isn't so great down there according to the DR. {I am borderline diabetic so I have many of the same effects}. Apparently loosing circulation si one of the effects. I was in the hospital for 3 weeks with pneumonia some 3 years back and a lady was in there bedridden with feet that were black {literally} form mid-shin down that had them out on the bed I'd see as I did my walking up and down the hall.I can see that happening later if my circulation doesn't improve.

Well It is the chilly nights requiring a furnace boost and hte afternoons heat requiring A/c that bother me. Seems counterintuitive to use both. But it will only cool down as time goes by...

I agree with Dave, jell insoles are great. I always use them in my work boots.

Well the place I had a interview today called a few hours later and said they really want me for the job and am looking forward to me starting. I have a good knowledge of industrial floor sweepers so I hope I can bring some help to them that way. The supervisor I met seems like a great guy.

Is it the place I really want to get into? No, but its a job and I will give 100% at it. But I still am holding out for that other job which is full time and benefits.

I start Wednesday and will be on days for two days of orientation and then move to afternoons on Friday. Thanks for the kind words I have got from you guys Yes

Like I said, my wife runs.  Probably over 50 MILES a week.  A pair of shoes for her might last 3 months.

I can see where good shoes are a must for that. I used to do quite a bit of running myself.

Yes and no.   My wife is into distance running and when your into that then shoes do make a difference.  Walmart specials aren't going to cut it.   For the average Joe like myself, not so much.

I love my underarmour cross trainers amazing shoes, I guess as long as it's wearable I'm fine. Thumbs Up
