Good afternoon. I had breakfast with my father this morning. Scrambled eggs with bacon, sausage, toast. While he was cooking that I got a load of laundry started. We enjoyed breakfast then I put my laundry in the dryer. We then loaded up the power chair batteries (both dead as a doornail), my mothers clean laundry and a small shopping list of things to pick up and headed off to town. First stop was Lowe's. While my father went to the animal clinic to get the flea stuff for his dogs and cat I went into Lowe's to get the PVC pipe I need for my scratchbuilding project. I bought two five foot lengths of 2 3/8" outside diameter thick wall PVC pipe, closest I could find to 2.5" OD. Grand total of $11.13. We then went and turned the old batteries in and got new ones. Dropped my mothers laundry at the nursing home then took care of the remaining small items on the list. Got back and got my laundry out of the dryer then helped my father put the power chair back together then put the charger on it. Came home and unloaded my laundry and PVC pipe. Now to get on with the planning for the scratchbuilding of a concrete grain elevator. And why am I building that? Just for the heck of it.

Hi Guys
Jeff: Look forward to seeing some pics of that elevator as you go along.
Well the new job I started last week has turned out to be a horrible horrible experience. I can honestly say that I hate it. If anybody wants the details feel free to PM me and I will let you know my experience at this place.
I am looking high and low for a new job. Because I very much doubt im going back to there.
JeremyBJeff: Look forward to seeing some pics of that elevator as you go along.
Well I'm getting started on the elevator project. The first step is to mark off the sections of the silos so they can be cut. As the photo below shows the marking has been done. Please forgive the crudity of my lines. My hands are not as steady as they used to be.More photos will be forthcoming.
Jeremy,
I have had some pretty horrible jobs in my time. I bet my worst was worse than yours.

I bet I would like yours than mine! Doing a good job where I work is like peeing your pants in a dark color suite. It gives you a warm feeling but no one notice's.
Only reason I am still there is I am praying for my home loan to be modified, if I am turned down I will find someway to get fired. If I get the loan modified, I am still out of there!

GOOD MORNING!!!
*groan* Boy If feel oldER today.. Dunno why..
To some of you I am older, to some of you I am younger, to soemo of you I am the same...fair to "middlin'" age. Actually I cannot wait for my spinal nerve injections on the 10th! I am plumb wore out from all of yesterday's activities and I have to go grocery shopping and banking today!
Some on here have one, I don't have one, some games require them, what are they?
Avatars! SO:
avatar - (modern meaning) iconic or alter-ego used instead of real identity, especially on websites - Avatar is an old Hindu concept referring to the descent or manifestation of a god or released soul to earthly existence, typically as a divine teacher. The word history is given by Cassells to be 18th century, taken from Sanskrit avatata meaning descent, from the parts ava meaning down or away, and tar meaning pass or cross over. In more recent times the word has simplified and shifted subtly to mean more specifically the spiritual body itself rather than the descent or manifestation of the body, and before its adoption by the internet, avatar had also come to mean an embodiment or personification of something, typically in a very grand manner, in other words, a "...presentation to the world as a ruling power or object of worship..." (OED, 1952). The virtual reality community website Secondlife was among the first to popularise the moden use of the word in website identities, and it's fascinating how the modern meaning has been adapted from the sense of the original word.

Good Morning!!!
Coffee and scrambled eggs, loose, with bacon and fried potatoes with gravy. Than….you know, just make that a pile please. Thanks. No not the coffee, I’ll still take that in a mug.
A 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 76.
You know Jeff, I’ve been thinking pretty much the same thing. I look at these buildings and such in the magazines and in photos on the web and I say gee I’d like to build that but it won’t work on the layout. Then I thunked, once things settle down here and I can get back to normal, why can’t I build a model that isn’t going to end up on the layout. I can make just a little diorama or scene for just that item. Looking forward to watching your elevator build.
Someday.
Well today I’m gonna try and make some progress on the old shower stall. But first, I ,must make my way to CBS.com (no advertisement ) and see if the season premiere of Ziva is ready to view. As you know I w**k on Tuesday nights so I watch it on the internet Wednesday mornings. Kinda like waking up with her though I’m sure Brenda would not care much for that analogy.
Ya’ll have a good day!!!!

Good morning. It's 69° with 99% humidity and patchy fog. It'll be partly cloudy with a high of 90°.Work continues on the grain elevator scratchbuild. I got the remaining four silos cut this morning. For those interested the way I get a straight level line around the pipe is by using a hose clamp. Tighten the clamp until it can't be pushed out of line and just slides on the pipe. Marking along the edge of it will give a straight line all the way around and if it was sufficiently tightened that line will be level. Today I'll put some tape across one end of the ends of each pipe section and stand them with the open end up. Pouring some plaster in should seal the other end. When the plaster is dry I'll pour in some glue and let it set. That should lock the plaster plug in place. If I have time I'll get started on making the walls of the structures.
A hearty "Howdeee" to you all!
I've been driving by this diner for many years, and thought I'd stop in for a "real" breakfast for a change...... Guess that would be: eggs over easy, sausage patties, hashbrowns, wheat toast with melted butter, cold glass of milk, and black coffee....................
Living down here in the Houston area, we are slowly getting our weather down to the 80s for highs, and upper 60s for lows. Of course like other Gulf states, weather here is either hot and humid, or ungodly cool and humid.
I'm 68, retired for 6 years from the oil bizzness, and have been a train nut since I was a child in Chicago. I was born/raised in Chicago, worked since I was a kid, married twice, have 4 adult kids, finished school at the University of Louisville, and lived/worked in Chicago, Louisville, Joliet (Ill), Dallas, and Houston. My main RR interest is the building of my '50s themed ATSF & IC HO layout, although I do have a fair collection of Lionel postwar stuff. Obviously I've been a regular on the MR forum for some time - seeking help and helping out wherever I can.
Anyway, its good to say "good morning" to you all, and assuming I keep coming back, I'll do my best to listen more than I talk!
ENJOY !

mobilman44A hearty "Howdeee" to you all!
Thank you for the kind "welcome"............
Gotta say, politics and religion are way too often upsetting topics, and I tend to keep them in the background. Ha, but I do like to talk about most anything else. My kids say I've mellowed with age, and I guess my thing is "live and let live"............
Geezzz, that sausage is good!
- Mobilman44, to one of the finest places around! The food is just great here, low on calories and cholesterol, yet tasty...
Good Afternoon, Folks!
a somewhat drab day, no rain, but just gray - "calm autumn weather" our weather guessers call that.
I have been doing more research for that layout in planning. The structures I have selected are way beyond my reach - that station building is over 180$ for a laser-cut kit . Back to the drawing board for a "suitable" solution for me. I have no plans for the rest of the day, maybe watching some train videos on Youtube.com. Petra is right next to me, designing Christmas cards (!) on her computer. Less than 3 months to go, folks ...
Have a good day!
Mobilman44!!!
the rules here are simple:
As Jeffrey pointed out: No politics/religion/other "flame war" topics.
Also, if you post pics, try to limit it to 1 or 2 and try to keep train related, {though they don't have to be here}. WPF is a good place to post iff'en you wants to post a lot of pics!
Also, NO Risque stuff..pics, or off colored jokes/humor or what have you, as this IS still a family site with young'uns viewing it!!!
Moderators DO monitor this Diner, so watch out!
Iff'en you get the top of the page first posting, you get "to buy" all the other posters on that page their meals..you can pay cash or a "credit card"... and don't forget a TIP!!! A 15%-18%-20% is considered normal and generous for our lovely wait staff.
Iff'en you don't watch out we have an "avatar bouncer" in here..you will meet him iff'en you don't stay on the good orderly direction in here!
Iff'en you mess up the joint or can't pay a bill..you get to clean up and wash dishes!
You may post whatever else you like about yourself, your day, whatever that is from MRRing or Train related.
The "Secret handshake" will be taught to you by the "avatar bouncer". Be sure to listen up for a "special password" each day! {just kidding neither exist in reality but are fun in play.} {Shave-and-a-haircut-two-bits ALWAYS works!}
Well,well
My day of grocery shopping has done worn me out for the rest of the day. After all of yesterday's activities, I am plumb in agony of pain. Cannot wait til the 10th when i get my next spinal nerve injections!
Thank YOu all for the Birthday greetings yesterday!!!!!!
The prayer candle is lit {unless i take a nap which is highly likely} all day now that I are home fer the rest of it.
well I think time to go lie down and wathc some TV
HAve a great afternoon !
'Morning all (or 'afternoon to our European friends). I'll just have coffee and a donut for now.

Zoe, I'll have a short stack of Buckwheat pancakes w/ some NYS Dark Amber Maple Syrup, sausage, and lots of dark roast coffee in my R&GV RR Mug this morning. Thank you Ma'am!
Mobilman44, welcome aboard! As has already been said, this is a great place to sit and share a whole lot of things including all kinds of trains stuff and how life is treating you. Just be on the watch for Vinnie, as there are certain items he gets real mean about... I see those have already been mentioned so I won't repeat them here. Good to see you sir! And stop in often...
The electrician from Rochester Solar arrived this morning to make a few corrections to the panels on the roof. he also has to install a lightning arrestor on the DC side of the system (They had to order one and it just came in). I will also be doing the monthly reading of the meters (both electric and gas) today.
Ulrich, Christmas Cards??? In September? Oh well, my sister in Canandaigua has already bought most of her quantity of presents she will be giving this year. I, am the opposite and start to worry around December 20th. or so.
Jeffrey, nice start on the Elevator! Great idea for keeping the lines exactly straight which gives me an idea for the bands I have been trying to oput on the water tower at the power station. Thanks!
I have a large list of items I should get done today, so I best get moving. Have a great day!

Morning All,

Mobileman As one of the newer diners here I can tell you that this a really nice place to sit and chat while having a nice meal, or just some coffee. Very friendly people here as well.
I think all the stress of what has been going on with my wife for the past two plus months caught up with me yesterday. Stomach was doing flip flops all day. Did not go to work or to the hospital. Feel a bit better today. Wife is on second full day of round two of chemo treatment, and all is well she says. Blood counts are good, and she can start on a liquid diet today. And no Ken, that does not mean lol.
Tried to order some Arizona Rock and Mineral ballast from Caboose hobbies yesterday. The color and size I wanted they were out of, so I need to try someplace else.
Today is my regular day off, so if stomach feels better I will go visit my wife and maybe do some layout work.
Prayers to all in need.
Ray - that early? I did my Christmas shopping always on the 24th
Dan - I need typical 1890´s style brick railroad buildings, as you find them everywhere in northern Germany. Most of the kits available here follow southern German prototype, which is out of place here. There is one business making laser-cut card kits, but they are just outrageously expensive. Need to look for a regular plastic kit, which fits my wallet.
Ulrich -- you might end up having to scratchbuild (or kitbash) something ... I can't think of any manufacturers that make European-prototype stuff outside the sources you've probably already checked (Faller, Heljan, Trix, Marklin, etc).
Is the laser-cut kit cardstock (i.e. paper), or plywood?
It´s plain card stock, but about 400 pieces of it.
In the meantime, I found a suitable kit. It is made by Auhagen, which is hardly known in the US, as they follow European (mainly German) prototype only. Their industrial structures might be of interest, though.
The station building actually pretty much looks like the one in my home town.
With a dab of paint and some weathering, i think it´ll look equally well ( at a quarter of the price for both the depot and the freight shed).
Work on the grain elevator got put on hold this morning. My father needed me to help him lift my mothers power chair into the back of his truck. So got that done then went to the nursing home with him as it was going to take both of us to unload it there. We got it unloaded and I drove it to my mothers room. I tested the speed setting on it on the way. A little below medium should be as fast as she needs to go. The fastest I had it up was 3/4's and the vertical mortar lines in the cinder block walls of the hall all disappeared and residents standing in the hall went by like a picket fence. Yeah, she definitely won't need that setting. Anyway, I showed her how to operate it, how to hook up the charger, etc. Now, on the grain elevator project, I have half of the silos done with what I call 'roof plugs' and I'm preparing to do the other half. The first part of that is to rough up the inside of one end of the with some sandpaper. I then place three strips of one inch masking tape across that end so they overlap a bit. I then put a fourth strip going across those at a ninety degree angle. It's not really needed but I feel better knowing it's there. Next I stand them taped end down on the kitchen counter and pour plaster into them to a depth of one inch then let them stand a couple of hours. I then pour a little glue in and let that set. Removing the tape reveals a fairly smooth plaster plug. Later I'll cover the top with some tissue and glue. That give the glue something to stick to later when I add the gallery (structure on top of the silos). Here's one I did earlier on a piece of scrap pipe to test the concept.End taped:End after plaster set and tape removed:

HOLY MOLY LEE!!!!!!!!! THANK YOU MOST MUCH for your recommendation!!!!! The Furminator just showed up in the mail opened it up, we went outside and man-o-man did the fur fly!!!! Neighbors can't see out of their windows for the fur. AND, as a big bonus, she actually LIKES being brushed with it!!!
Next I try it on the dog.
Mobileman44- Big hearty welcome to you sir! I've seen you around the forums. Glad you stopped in and hope you stay aound. No this place isn't everyones cup of tea, but we like it and welcome who ever wishes to show up. Good thing about here is, if you have a problem, you will get help without the "looks horrible" comments. Those in the know genuinely want to help others enjoy the hobby as much as they do and do NOT have a better than thou attitude. If someone stops in and gets abit brash, and it does happen from time to time, we just ignore them and they usually just move on down the tracks.
Dennis I hope you enjoy the diner.Real nice folks here.
I just ordered 6 bags of ballast from Arizona Rock and Mineral, should be enough to last a little while, unless I spill a lot of it on the floor.
rdgk1se3019 Hi all, I`m Dennis and I`m new here to the diner.
Work on the elevator is progressing. At this time the plaster and glue and setting in the last of the silos. The next step will be to sand them to take off the smooth plastic appearance and give it the look and feel of concrete. I've already done this on the scrap tube I'm using to test my concepts. It has a nice looking texture of concrete. Later I'll paint it and see what it looks like.
Well.......got a call from my boss at 4PM said we will be off tomorrow too.......he can`t get everything together we need for the weekend and also another chance of bad weather too........so I guess I just have to keep working on the layout.
