In my previous layouts, I was unhappy with the ground cover, having a much too uniform look for my taste. When I built a narrow gauge layout some years back, I tried a different technique, using Heki Flor mat ripped into pieces and applying long fibers of yellow static grass to simulate an area covered with grass and weeds. Turned out better than I expected it!

The layout has been sold some time ago.

Show me something unusual on a layout.

Something unusual?  A hand laid stub end turnout I did 25 years ago now long gone:

Show me something you made that you no longer use.

Something I no longer use?  I built a new layout, switching the theme from the forest-products region of East Texas to a seaport on the Texas coast.  I no long have any use for pulpwood cars.  I built one Santa Fe FT-V 53' pulpwood rack car from two 50' flats bashed together, Precision Masters ends and a scratchbuilt dihedral deck.

Prototype photo at Conroe TX ca. 1980.

Atlas GSC pulpwood rack modified to more closely represent a Santa Fe FT-6.

Prototype photo at Conroe TX ca. 1980.

Since I cannot use these, I am trying to dispoise of them.  (hint)

Show me something you wanted, you made out of something you didn't care so much about the way you got it.

If i understand correctly, this maybe a good example.
An RTA Kato & an Amtrak F40PH, became Chi-Towns Metra units.
These are embarassing as they are early units when I was still learning, wrong colors, bad weathering, & not really finished with all the parts.  At the time I was pretty happy though.
Now we can buy the factory ones in a few weeks!

Please Show Me Something You Modeled, Before it Became an 'Available From Factory' Unit!!!

Thank you very much George, I appreciate the Pass!
I will give a Detailing Double Feature.

This is an IC&E Unit that I detailed out as a Former CP Unit, however it's known as 'April Fools' as I added the CP markings representing their takeover. It has the Canadian Cab Bell, and other detailing I enjoy doing.

This is an Amtrak Dash8-32BWH that I modified the pilot to be able to pepprt it with all the MU, & HP receptacles they have, & other detailing, it is not exactly like the prototype, but I will be making anoter as I damaged the cab & you can see it a little bit here.

Please Show Me Anything You Customized!!!

EDIT: Sorry, I was late..

No Alco Big Boy, but instead, Baldwin's biggest and best, a hunky 2-8-8-4.  Actually, as far as tractive effort, you could call these M-3/4's a  "Bigger Boy", LOL!

Show me some mid-train helpers.

[bump] This is pretty open ended...
I really like the way this turned out!
Show me something at sunrise or sunset. (dare I ask?)

I really like how you made the engine stand still and moved the layout under it very quickly to give the illusion of movement.Stick out tongueConfused

Just one switcher and some MOW equipment from my freelanced Bunker Hill & Eastern RR

Is it me, of does the new format have fewer posts per page then the old one? Confused

Show me an EMD E unit
