Time for me to call it a night. Got a doctors appointment in the morning. General physical and lab work. I'm going to be stuck with needles. Looking forward to getting some freight cars tomorrow. They're used but new to me. See y'all tomorrow.

 Evening Dinners!

 Flo, Beer Pleases.

Chicken Wars My wife wanted me to BBQ tonight so I did. Went outside to start the grill, Chicken was sitting on top of a lawn chair. Hum, most of us know where a Chicken will sit, it will S%^&. Well, it was kinda cute (would look better in a KFC bucket) so I left it alone. Well, I chased it out of the yard.

Went back out, Chicken was standing of the safety net that goes around the pool. Then it started clucking at me like What are you doing here! Well that did it. Got out the trusty Bee Bee Gun. I have not used it for around 15 years. Went back out and the Chicken was on the other side of the yard, about 70 feet. Drew a bead on the Foul Bird and let the Bee Bee Fly. Direct hit on the birds butt! Big Smile Sure got it's Cluck'er in gear!

Still a pretty good shot, when I was in the Army I was a Expert with the rifle.

See you all later, time to Dinner

I had a lot of catching up to do yesterday. Many pages to read on this and many other web sites. All because I got hit with a virus that just about completely took over my laptop last Sunday. Grrrrr.

Fortunately, I got very lucky Friday night and not only managed to salvage and back up some of my personal files, but I also managed to get rid of it. I really do despise these clowns and hope only the worst for them. So I'm back in business and all is right with the world again. For awhile though, I was sure a new laptop was going to be necessary.

We had a nice time today, even though it has been raining just about all day here in Pittsburgh. In fact, a pretty good thunderstorm with heavy rain just ended a little while ago. First we went to the last play of the Season at the Civic Light Opera. It was "The Addams Family." Some really good performances and very funny lines. Afterwards, we went out to dinner. I feasted on a salad, garlic mashed potatos, and a strip steak, while wife had her usual of baked sweet potato and baby back ribs. Life is good and I'm ready to start the new week in the morning. That is, after we have breakfast at our local diner.

Hope everyone had a nice weekend.   Tom

Good Afternoon Gang,

it´s a rainy day today, so no outside "activity" at all. Still fighting with my mood - I may have one the first battle, but not the war yet.

A big and hearty welcome from the other side of the Big Pond, Rob II. Now that we have two of you, we have to introduce numbers Smile, Wink & Grin

Out of shear desperation, I started to draw locos with my track planning tool:

TeenSteamFan should be able to recognize this one. It´s a Stroudly LB&SCR A1 "Terrier", built in the 1870´s. It earned its nickname for the mature "bark" it had. It hauled commuter trains south of London until WW I. Nearly all were taken over by the Southern Railway in 1923 after 50 years of service. The last to be withdrawn from regular service was the "Hayling Billy" locos, serving the Havant to Hayling line. This was in 1963 - after 90 years of service! Quite a large number were preserved and can be watched on regular outings at the Bluebell Railway and others.

Have a good one!

 Morning All,

08:00 and temp is 71 , calling for a high of 91 with thunder storms. Thunder storms here mean lightining, boomers a few drops of rain, and the high probaility of brush fires.

Got the battery charged on the Isuzu, I guess I will have to remember to start it it up once in a while.

Ken,     back in the mid 90's when I bought my Digitrax Big Boy, I converted all my bb 's to can motors and N.S. wheels, just this past month I installed a Tsunami in a GP 9 works fine I was just wondering about the tune up that I read some place. Thanks to Johnboy I now have it saved in my favorites. Enjoy running trains at K-10 Models.

The store is open from 1000 to 6oo on Sundays, so that is my shift today. The wife had a good day yesterday so I think I will be able to go in all day.

Prayers to one and all who need them.

Jeff, I thought of that after I posted it, LOL.

Rob, just be polite and you should do just fine.  Welcome to the diner!  We do chat about train stuff and life in general.

We never repeat gossip, so you better listen close the first time.

Good Morning all,

First time dropping in the diner. What are the rules here?

83 degrees and sunny in Knoxville right now. Calling for 89 with chance of storms today.

Heading into Univ. of TN later with the gf while she does some of her geology research.

Trying to decide if I should rip up what I have started on my layout after the water leak or just start 2 new modules. Hmmmm. Hmm

Have a great day.

GOOD MORNING!!!

Today is Sunday, August 5th, 2012!!!

August -- Augustus Caesar's month

Latin Augustus "Augustus"
Latin Augustus mensis "month of Augustus"
Latin sextilis mensis "sixth month"

Sextilis had 30 days, until Numa when it had 29 days, until Julius when it became 31 days long.

Augustus Caesar clarified and completed the calendar reform of Julius Caesar. In the process, he also renamed this month after himself.

no balls, there are a couple communities around the country that host Coast Guard Day, I think the largest celebration is in Grand Haven, MI so we focus our attention on those festivities.

I asked a cop one time what would be considered a good contribution to the Policeman's Ball. With a completely straight face the cop answered 'Policemen don't have balls'. Then he realized what he said. The look on his face was worth a million bucks!

Good morning. It's 76° with 93% humidity. There's a fair chance of rain today. The high will be 95° but will feel like 110°.

No outdoor activities scheduled. It's gonna be too darn hot to do much out there. Cleanup of the work area on the layout needs to be done. It's rather cluttered and it's getting hard to find things.

It's almost 9:30 pm and it still feels like 94 outside. Time for me to call it a night. A bit before noon today the power went out and stayed off for over an hour. There wasn't a storm anywhere near so I don't know what happened. Other than that it was a quiet day. See y'all tomorrow.

 Evening Dinners

Flo, Beer and keep them coming! Been a long day!

Paul as a whole I have not had great luck converting old BB engines to DCC. First thing you need to do is check running free wheeling amps then stall amps. Free wheeling should be around .50 amps and stall max's is 1.0 amps. Lower is better! If your motors are in that range and you want a simple hard-wire look at Digitrax DH-163-AT or there 123 DH-123-AT decoders.

If your motors amps are to high and you don't want to spend a arm and a leg check out this site for motors.

 http://www.alliancelocomotiveproducts.com/

Only draw back to there Hump motors is you have to grind out the chassis to fit the motor. I have one in my BB Santa FE F7A. For what I paid for it I cannot complain. Just makes a little noise.

Work Front Worked a long day, got there at 8:00 AM and left at 7:30 PM. 11.5 hour day is a long day. I will add it was a Pain In The Caboose Day. I only made around $40.00 Commission but it better than nothing.Far as my Feet they fared pretty darn good!

Sunday Seems Dave is leaving it up to me if I want to work? Hmm Hum, this could be a trick! Whistling But, then again K-10 Model Train's has open house this Sunday. I would like to go.

 See you all later.

It's after 10PM here in the Finger Lakes and still 79°F outside.  Dog Days are here!  The air conditioners will be left on again tonight.

Tomorrow I will be doing Docent duties out at the museum.  Forecast is calling for some strong thunderstorms with the possibility of high wind and hail.....  Oh Joy!  It they hit mid afternoon, we will probably close down early.

Jim, I don't think the "Match Making" will go anywhere...... LOL.

Time to get some sleep!  Prayers for all in need!

Good Evening All:

Yesterday was the U.S. Coast Guard’s 222nd birthday.

Garry I’m sorry to hear about your daughter’s MIL.  I’m glad to hear you feel sore, that means your healing and with heart surgery that means you’re still alive.

Jeff, that’s disappointing that your mother will stay in the hospital a little longer, but I’m glad she is doing better.  The slug looks pretty good.  I remember seeing those and cab-less GP’s running around the yard in Walbridge, OH.  Sorry as you said I never saw a F unit slug, but when the railroads see your concept unit who knows what will happen….

Today I took the puppy to the vet, then we went to the shop and had both truck batteries replaced.  They will call me in 2-3 days and tell me what I owe and I’m on the honor system to pay.  The old batteries were sent back for testing and credit for the prorated warranty or a full warranty.   So the one battery had 2 dead cells and the other one had 1 dead cell, this caused the diode in alternator to keep things running at full charge burning out the voltage regulator.  So short story long I hope this fixes all my issues.

Evenin', Janie, how about a hot fudge sundae with a  Rio Grande  mug of coffee, please? Thank you. Smile

Wanted to check in and see if anyone has heard from Garry so far. Wondered if he would have internet access (and a computer to get to it) in the hospital after his surgery. Anyone know yet?

Ray, how's your 'family matchmaking service' coming along? Smile, Wink & Grin Had to chuckle when I saw that a few pages back.

And from the quick peek, it looks like Todd is stil in the middle of (yet...) another home project. I would figure that the whole house would be fairly new by now, with all the parts of the house that you've updated/replaced/etc.

Have been kinda busy at w**k lately - supposedly, we have one person covering in the daytime, and one 'floater' who helps the day person out with things (except that the 'floater' keeps getting called out to cover some emergency in one of our outlying (more northerly) offices...). Makes it hard to have the paperw**k for one day done - not only by the end of a day, but even a few days later (since much of the rest of the week, we're covering nighttime on-call...). Friday/yesterday, I was thinking I was going to get the two days from last week caught up, when about 3/3:30 p.m., we get a call for our furthest place we cover from our office (which meant forget getting any 'catch-up' on the documentation done). Bang HeadBang Head Before I left, I told our supervisor that I would try to have my monthly summary ready by Monday (theoretically, it would've been due about the first). Sigh Not enough hours in the w**kday to get the day's paperw**k done...

Got together with my buddy Mark (lives north of town) for lunch today - after getting together with my men's group from church for breakfast. At least got to see some familiar faces over food. Smile

Kinda at an impasse on the layout momentarily, only partly due to some glitches with new operating system (10.8.0) that I downloaded (and installed - thank Heaven!) on an *external* drive; kept my current operating system (10.6.8) on the internal drive. Glad of that! The new system has a few, let's say, "communication differences of opinion" with the Mac App Store (which the older system does not...). New system won't let me log into my account on the Store (which means, no recent updates to some apps for the new OS). After an email exchange of several emails with a certain company's tech support, I carbon-copied my last email to the CEO of said company. Must've (to whatever degree) w**ked, as I got emails and phone calls from a guy who appears to be the CEO's troubleshooter/support person. Maybe come Monday or Tuesday we'll talk on the phone and get the 'gotchas' ironed out. (Memo to self: do NOT get the "point zero" version of an operating system (10.8.0, etc.); wait for .2 or .3 version...)

Have been keeping various Diners (and your needs) in my thoughts and AngelAngel while I have been away.

Think I will kick back at the RC here and see about whittling down this sundae to size...

Blessings and prayers,

Jim in Cape G.

Hello.... Hello!  Anybody here?  Oh at least the waitresses are in.

Well, let me see, Flo, I'll have the oriental chicken and melon (zucchini) special, with eggroll please, some fresh fruit, and a glass of iced tea for dinner.

Place has sure been empty today....  Guess everyone is out building their empire and staying out of the sun!

I did a couple loads of wash, and worked on the railroad....  "Oh, I've been working on the railroad, All the live long day!"  OK, OK, I'll stop...  Got some more done on the mold form, varnished the top of the upper staging board, and sat and starred at some other things hoping to get an idea or two of how to do them....

Later!

Decided to stay home and help with the wife, trying to get nutrition in her. Hooked up the battery charger to the Isuzu.

Dang just remembered we are out of coffee. I need to go to Costco for that and might as well pick up one of my  meds while at it. It's 95 out and not a cloud in the sky. 81 inside with the a/c.. Well I will jump in the little Focus and turn the air on full blast.

Thanks for the info. I think I will try this tune up. It does not look too difficult, just have to check my wire box to see if I have some  22 or 24 gauge wire.

Good afternoon all,  if the grill is up and running, Rerun and I will take a plate of double cheeseburgers...thanks.

I saw this and thought of our Coastie, LEEToday is National U.S. Coast Guard Day. If you know anyone who serves in our Guard, please make sure to thank them. In 1988, Speaking about our youth, President Reagan said, “If they said they wanted to help people in distress, guard our borders, conserve fisheries, battle drug smugglers, enforce maritime law, test their courage against stormy seas, and defend America in times of war, and wear proudly each day the uniform of this great country, then I would tell them just one thing -- I'd tell them: Join the Coast Guard.”

Have a good day. Rain, wind and storms here with much power line chaos around the region.

Hey guys

Just letting you guys no I'm still around. Been really busy as of late.

Right now I'm looking for a technical illustration/mechanical design job now that I'm through with college. Looks like the jobs are all in texas, but there are a lot of mechanical engineering jobs that require some extra college around here. I'll ask my instructor if he know anything that I can do on Monday.

As far as trains are concerned I've done nothing. The DRGW F9A still will not strip and it's been soaking for almost a month. When I get some more $ I'll buy something that should work. I'm also trying to find a powered and dummy stewart chassis. The drive parts from one would suffice since a frame is inexpensive. (Jeff, Don't you have left-over drive parts from a stewart F lying around? I have 2 P1K F3 drives laying around if you wanna make a trade of some sort). I really don't want to buy 2 more locos, just for the chassis.

Vincent

Wants: 1. high-quality, sound equipped, SD40-2s, C636s, C30-7s, and F-units in BN. As for ones that don't cost an arm and a leg, that's out of the question....

2. An end to the limited-production and other crap that makes models harder to get and more expensive.

I am thinking of doing a hard wire for my BB Athearn loco's. I remember seeing it done somewhere but do not remember where. (I suffer from CRS) Anyone do this or have an idea how it is done and if it is worth it? I know alot of people do not like the BB Athearn's but I have 5 and do not want to just trash them and spend $ on better (?) quality ones. At least not at this time. Doctor bill may be very large, even though I have medical insurance.
