Sawyer:

Der, just build a loop then, and maybe add a small engine service and maybe a couple industries in a town, with some rural scenes on the rest of the track. That way you can salvage buildings etc,
....indeed, good idea. Trouble is, I don't know what scale I may be in; and THAT depends on the space available. I have to admit though that the buildings such as the stations would be at home in the steam era (which is when most pretty much all of the prototypes for the kits would have been built....and I do have that loop of Unitrack.  Diorama's looking better  all the time!

Jeremy:

Anybody have any tips to get rid of a cold quick???,lol
...strictly as non-medical advice; but take your pick: http://www.google.ca/search?q=zinc+colds+dosage&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8&aq=t&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&client=firefox-a  That looks like a copy and paste move if the link doesn't fire up correctly!

Jeff:

That's OK. Life Lock will catch it.
...or maybe not: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/LifeLock  Huh?

JR: Those are good looking bridges Sir!Bow

Sakel:

(by JR) Besides I suppose you haven't heard of cousin Vinnie the esteemed enforcer here. You know the one who asks if you like hospital food as you'll be getting a lot of it if you don't put the card backWhistling.    J.R.
...allow me to introduce our esteemed Maitre D'hotel "Cousin" Vinnie - his reputation here is founded on the company he keeps - who does the enforcing (Vinnie keeps clean hands, as well as clean floors!) which is also why it is never a good idea to get too friendly with the wait- staff here, two of whom, the twins, h are Vinnies actual cousins; and all of whom he considers as being under his especial care.

So, Sakel

(edges back to the counter).. Hey look I found the card! Guess I will have to give this to its rightful owner..(sighs)
wise decision; and now you know! Whistling

CN Charlie:

Der, I have some of the same dilema as we plan on moving to Vancouver Island in a few years and I know I won't have much space for a layout.
...Vancouver Island - where in particular. We were in Campbell River for 8 years in the 80s. Loved it!
It is beautifully made but appearance wise it just doesn't seem right  for North American prototype.
Agreed, but with the right ballast treatment, that can be remedied for my tastes - which are not too prototypically correct that I can't sleep nights! (or if I can't sleep nights it's not because of ballast profile issues Clown)

The epoxy on the chipper collar repair just wasn't strong enough to even survive the stress of re-assembly. So I'm now just waiting on parts to come in to the dealer....He's an equipment rental place, and doesn't even have email Yoiks!

About time I turned in. Kris went out around 8 to visit neighbours, and said "Don't wait up"; so I won't.Laugh

Goodnight all, and God Bless. Prayers for Ken and all in need of Healing, Comfort, Prosperity and Peace.Angel

Oh, well that does throw a monkey wrench into the situation then doesn't it? Course, if you already have the unitrak loop, that could work for a little moduled line...or time off doesn't always hurt either, I've done that a few times as well

Evenin' folks!

Janie, just my usual decaf for the moment.

Hmmmmmm?  Why is Vinnie all figgity in the back booth?  Somethin' goin' on here?  Hey!  I behave myself.....  Oh, the new guy was playing around and being funny...  Ah.... OK, I'll be extra quiet here then.

Der, all this talk of moving makes me glad I bought a ranch house back 30 years ago now.  I ain't leaving until they carry me out or I can't navigate the basement stairs...  Whichever comes first!

I was hoping we might get an update today on how Ken is doing...  Guess no news is good news.  One can hope anyway.

Barry, I hear you ran trains today and all the gremlins stayed away!  Great!

I got a few things done on the layout today.  Just putting in some roadbed and creating a 2% grade coming out of the Yard at Kanandaqua.  Need to cut out a curved piece to be elevated tomorrow.  This will end up leading to a major bridge over a ravine and creek where a reverse loop will come around.  I also have finished and installed the lower staging piece behind the heater.  Nice to have some time to do some serious w*rk down there.

Time for me to take my blood sugar reading and head out to bed I guess.....

Have a great night everyone, and prayers for those in need!

Howdy ..

Not much MR progress to report because we are spending time with grand daughters.  Tomorrow morning we will go fishing. Fireworks is supposed to be in the evening. The fireworks are over the lake and people go via boats or cars.

Sakel .... Welcome to the Diner! I hope you can continue posting here for a long time.

JR ... I'm very glad to see your progress on the new layout. The bridges and buildings look very good.

Sawyer ... I'm glad to see your diorama in prgress. it will look great when you complete it.

John .. I have had to destroy some prvious layouts because of moving, and it was not fun doing that.

Cheers everybody.

See - honesty - the best policy - especially around Cousin Vinnie right Todd?Wink Haven't been around much lately. Did you do the self introduction thing for us Sakel (you know the usual name rank serial number.... no, no I meant scale, road, time period, etc)..  Nosey people would like to know.    J.R.

I kinda stated this, but here we go anyway. I am in HO scale, CSSX/NS and for time period i am modeling 2000-current, give or take a few years. Well, now that I have cleared that up, I might need a late night snack...... Who has a menu?

Good morning diners.

Just a Coffee, white with 2 and a couple of pieces of toasted raisin bread. I'll get some strawberry jam on those. Cheers

Geez, I never noticed those waitress twins working here before. Hope the wife doesn't find out or I will be answering some harsh questions later. Black Eye

Looks like all the neighbors have their lawnmower men over to make a load of noise. Geez I should throw a beer or two their way and get them to do a quick run over the font yard while they are chopping. Don't think they will jump for it though. They charge an arm and a leg to just push a mower over it . Sigh Will have to do it myself. At least it will get done right. Happy that I did the back yard the other day.

No car today so I will be catching the bus to the pools to carry on with the hydro therapy on my knee. The trainer has upped the program so I will be coming home sore again. I am guessing it will be an evening on the couch with a heat pack on the limb. Grumpy

Hope to get the chassis painted on my RS3 project and add some detail to the cab and body. No work on the layout as yet though I do need to finish the PC Bus' for the control panel. Solder Solder Solder...

Sawyer... The diorama is looking so good already, I am really looking forward the end product.

Jeremy... The only cure for a cold is good food, plenty of water and sleep. I suggest getting some sunlight during the day as well. Don't overdo it though. The body is designed for outdoor use. Too much indoors can end up making you sick IMO.

Jeff...  What on earth did you do to that nail bar? I hope it is not the result of wrapping it around some young rogue paintballers head. Indifferent

Hope the Canadians had a great day and are all partied out.

Everyone stay well or get well. Angel You never know what tomorrow can bring.

Lunchtime!

Zoe, whatever the gang is ordering, put it on my tab, please. I am celebrating post # 5,000 today!

Petra and I went on a shopping spree this morning. It´s the time of summer sales and our wardrobe urgently needed some additions. We spent only a third of what we intended to, but got only half the gear we were looking for Crying. Don´t they have decent clothing for middle-aged folks like us? That teenie stuff looks awful on us. The few things they had in my size were on regular price, i.e. out of reach. I guess I have to go the place I am sure I get decent stuff - our local hunting and fishing shop! Actually, they are sometimes a lot cheaper than other stores.

Nothing planned for the rest of the day. I may watch part two of that train ride to Chicago later on, should I not go for a nap.

Have a good one!

Good Morning All,

Red sky in the morning, sailor takes warning.

The red cast nimbus clouds accumulating this morning hopefully mean we will get some rain.  I’ve been water my yard to protect from the errant fireworks tomorrow that tend to land in my yard.

Red skies on the way into work today cast a nice back ground to the warning signs on the highway of the potential fire areas and asking drivers not to throw lit cigarettes from their cars.  Not something you see every year up here.

Packer, the diorama looks good.  I remember in Kuwait you had to wait until 0200 to run when it got down to 96F, lol….

Jeremy, there was some summer flu virus going around last year at this time that I had the misfortune of catching.  That was a real bummer catching the flu in the middle of summer.  Matter of fact it was July last year.

Jim, I think my last visit to Great Lakes Naval Training Center was in 1991 for medical.  I was stationed in St.Joe, MI and drove around the bottom of the lake since it was the closest military medical facility.

Good morning All,

60F and partly sunny today. Tomorrow we are to get the heat and thunderboomers back so the fireworks may be preempted by mother earth.

Lee - try Great Lakes NTC in January. I remember boot camp and standing at attention in the quad in the morning until we turned blue to match the pea coats. That must be some awesome truck you have if you toured the bottom of the lake with itEmbarrassed.

Sokel - thanks for the info. I was too idle to go back and check all the locked pages to find it. Easier to ask. Some of the folks at the railway museum have worked for CSX over the years and both CSX and NS are the local freight carriers - one to the north an west, the other to the south as we're in the middle of the Conrail territory they divided between the two.Of the two I prefer NS for their sense of history. One of the diner alumni landed a job with NS as well a couple of years back and right out of high school.

I thought this was wintertime in OZ and NZ. Whaddaya doin mowing lawns? Does it not get that cold? We're to go there in December - outside of torrential rain what should I expect for weather?

Gotta run - got cars to prep for Pocono this weekend and neither are finished yet.   CUL, J.R.

Morning guys

I slept in today, not as much as I would have liked to, but 7:30 is better than 5:30.

Plans for today are to go to the bank, post office, and the dentist. I might measure up the Des Plaines inserts and atlas cabs to see if I can make a better fit than the last one (which was never measured). I figure I'll work on the GP5 once I get the cabs squared up, then see if there are any other similar prototypes that are phase 3 GP9s.

Lee, I thought it was: "red sky at morning, sailors mourning." Anyways, I didn't make a diorama. That was Sawyer (Packers#1). It's probably less confusing with us if our real names are used; mines in my signature.

Vincent

Wants: 1. high-quality, sound equipped, SD40-2s, C636s, C30-7s, and F-units in BN. As for ones that don't cost an arm and a leg, that's out of the question....

2. An end to the limited-production and other crap that makes models harder to get and more expensive.

Morning Brew in the DIner... July 2012
Posted by galaxy on Tuesday, July 3, 2012 8:29 AM

Sakel, first Welcome to the diner! Now I have to scold you! We DO NOT tolerate THEFT or THIEVERY in the diner!!! We have very few, but simple, rules {to remind everyone};

No swearing or foul language- that includes squiggles simulating, {&%##(} or stars * in places of key vowels!!! Children are on this family site! As my mother used to say, you can find another {clean} way to express yourself!

No politics - politics and discussion of such can lead to what we call "flame wars" over who has the correct view or party or ideas.

NO religion talks...you can mention you went to church, but no other religious talk, they can lead to flame wars, too.

NO railroad talk that will lead to a flame war..such as "NS is better than CSX!" or such!

Whomever gets the "top of the page posting" has to "buy" everyone on the page their tabs. {hence the reason for the Credit Card}

NO posting of lots of pics in a post, and pics should really be RR related. Limit pics within a post as it takes up space so limit to one or two. If you want to post more of your layout or trains, post in the "weeked Photo Fun {{WPF}} thread. You can get called on the carpet for that!

ALso, Sakel and all take note::: DER!!! you should KNOW BETTER!!! NO RISQUE or "DIrty" pics permitted! Just ask our esteemed Bill tidler...{I think it was him} WHO GOT CALLED ON THE CARPET over posting pics of females and half dressed waitresses such as DER did!!! THose are NOT ALLOWED as this is a FAMILY site..and children read what we post!!! So say the User Moderators and the "powers that be"!!  ULRICH is one and may want to look into those pics, he may remove them!!!!

Now, I didn't make all the rules, just be sure you abide by them!

Pretty simple,rules, huh?

Now, who is buying my breakfast coffee???

Havea GREAT and Safe day if you are travelling!

Good Morning All,

Red sky in the morning, sailor takes warning.  Red Sky at night sailor’s delight.

When the wind is from the west the fishing is the best

When the wind is from the east, fishing is the least

When the wind is from the north, wise fishermen do not go forth

When the wind is from the south it blows the hook in the fishes’ mouth

Never saddle a dead horse. (only a real sailor will get this one)

JR, you should try running a 44’ MLB on Lake Michigan in November or January….

Good morning. It's 79° and mostly cloudy this morning. This afternoon will be partly cloudy with a 20% chance of rain. The high be 95° but will feel more like 104°.

Today I'll be going to the post office to drop off a couple of packages then from there to Wal-Mart to do the remainder of my grocery shopping. $49 isn't much so as usual I'll be getting what I can get the most of for the least $$. No layout work planned for today.

Mornin' everyone!

Zoe, I'll have a short stack of blueberry pancakes w/ Maple Syrup a side order of bacon, and a cup (or 2) of dark roast coffee in my FGLK mug, Please and Thank You!

Currently 80°F under partly cloudy skies here in the Finger Lakes.  Looking at 88°F for the high this afternoon.  Another good day to spend down cellar in the train rooms.......  Haven't had any appreciable rain here in 15 days, and none in the forecast for the next 10 days either.  Drought conditions!  Unusual for early July here in these parts.

Say Zoe?  What's with the blue jeans and long sleeved shirts today?  Somebody complained about the regular outfits?  Sheesh!  Bummer!  I didn't think they were out of place here.  I've seen much worse at McDonalds...  But THAT was on the customers, of course.  And most of them shouldn't be wearing stuff like THAT!  Makes me lose my appetite, should we say. Whistling

Better get moving and see what trouble I can get into today.......

Later!

Ken Update.....

Looks like the surgical option is off the table for the time being and that he is responding to the IV antibiotics.  They are planning to set him up with a visiting nurse and let him come home over the next day or so.  Then it will be 4 weeks off his feet, no beer, no ciggies, no soda, in other-words a real challenge for our man Ken.  He will at least have trains and the forum.  So expect to hear from him in the not too distant future.

Morning fellas. Tried going for a run this morning, but it turned into a walk since I had gone running last night; tomorrow I hope for better, since it’ll be about a 24 hour rest cycle. Diorama work has been stalled a bit because I’m going to order some styrene I beams, but don’t have an LHS, so that will have to wait until I can order some online…or I might get someone in my family to run to Blue ridge Hobbies when they’re in Greenville next week. I can get them a part number for it. Hmmmm, decisions.

Garry, thanks, and sounds like a fun day! No fireworks for us this year, because it’s been super hot and reallllllyyyy dry, and “legally” we’re in the “city” (my backyard fence is basically the city/county line) so there will be cops patrolling, since you can’t have fireworks in the city.

Chris, thanks, and I hear ya on the soldering. I don’t mind it until I’m working in open air under the layout…then it gets kinda tough. And rs3’s rock!

Lee, thanks, and ohhhh that sounds delightfully joyful to do in Kuwait!

Vincent, yeah man, I know what you mean…my name is also in my sig. Have fun with those errands!

Well, now to spend some time today painting, and hopefully finishing up the diorama’s forest.

***Simon, thanks for the update on Ken. It will be a challenge for him indeed, but it is good news.

Slept in so late, the cool morning is already past. Won't be getting much done outside now.

Have a great day all.

GMTRacing

I thought this was wintertime in OZ and NZ. Whaddaya doin mowing lawns? Does it not get that cold? We're to go there in December - outside of torrential rain what should I expect for weather?

Well where I live in Perth it rains for 1 week during winter around this time of year. Then its just cold enough to kill all the veges if they are not protected. (No snow on the west side)Then it gets hot in November through to March. Bring a hat. It has peeked at 46Deg C during summer in the south west.

Where I work, North of the Capricorn, it gets really windy and up to 52 Deg C and rains hard for a few weeks in January and February and then around May it calms down to a pleasant 28Deg C, with lows of -2Deg C until around September. Then It gets windy a hot again.

Cheers...

When the glass falls low,Halyardss, sheets, and braces, tend, When it rides high, let all your kites fly. Learned ditty from Ralph StinMaster Marinerriner. Licensed to operate Any Vessel, Any Size, Steam, Power, or Sail, on Any Waters of the World. He had his ticket hanging on his wall, and it was a thing to behold. Went to sea at age 11, and by age 20, owned three clippers sailing out of Portland Maine. Made over fifteen trips around the Horn under sail.

Sakel, first Welcome to the diner! Now I have to scold you! We DO NOT tolerate THEFT or THIEVERY in the diner!!! We have very few, but simple, rules {to remind everyone};

Whomever gets the "top of the page posting" has to "buy" everyone on the page their tabs. {hence the reason for the Credit Card}

NO posting of lots of pics in a post, and pics should really be RR related. Limit pics within a post as it takes up space so limit to one or two. If you want to post more of your layout or trains, post in the "weeked Photo Fun {{WPF}} thread. You can get called on the carpet for that.

I will have to keep those rules in mind, and as for the children part, on the 7th I will be turning 14.

Well we are having a nice storm; I think any worries about dry grass for the 4th of July has been taken care of.  The construction site across the street from work almost lost all their 4” thick blue Styrofoam when the winds picked up and several yards of dirt at the port blue into town like a sand storm.  I bet we will have a good 1-2” of rain out of this storm before it blows over.
