Lunchtime!

A bowl of spaghetti alla arrabiata, please!

Spend the morning developing some ideas for a LRT type layout, based on the Enoshima Railway. Did a lot of research to come up with some prototype locations. Here is what I have so far:

I still have some track left, so I might start to build that soon, as there is still room on my shelf Laugh

Good Evening Diners,

I had a long post nearly done and then it went 'poof' so this is a shortened version. OK, I heard that sigh of relief.

Ken, good luck with the 'smokes' issue. The slang in Canada for cigarettes is 'smokes' . I can't comment on how hard it is to quit as I have never smoked. I think I was put off the whole idea because my father smoked cigars in the winter, in a Morris Oxford, with the windows up. Too cold to open them especially with a heater as weak as the one in a 1951 Morris. I often felt a little sick. Thanks Dad.

Barry, sure hope the next go around does trick. Not a good way to lose weight.

Todd, I think Missy deserves a cheesburger for being so patient and a Lone Star for you.  As you know we have always had West Highland terriers and altough cute, they were originally bred to flush out badgers so they are not very tolerant of other dogs who try to take over their territory. If the female we had were put in such a position as Missy there would have been blood and it wouldn't have been Pippa's. In fact she attacked our male westie a few times when he got too pushy when playing and she drew blood. He was a little afraid of her. Like all terriers westies have very large teeth and they aren't afraid to use them.

Well time to say Good Night,

CN Charlie

Breakfast in the Diner - July 6th, 2012
Posted by Anonymous on Thursday, July 5, 2012 9:54 PM

Good Morning Gang,

not yet 5 am and I am up for an hour already. Those sleeping issues caught up on me again Dead

Summer is especially bad, as the sun rises around 3.30 am in my neck of the woods.

Barry - continuing Angel for your recovery. Once you are through with your treatment you should come and see us. Petra´s good food will certainly put some lbs. on your bill again!

There is a mile-long HD list waiting for me today. Petra wants me to give our kitchen a dab of paint, but I don´t really feel up to it. See what I can do to postpone that!

Have a good one!

Evenin' folks!

Janie, I'll have a cup of decaf right now....

Temperature is going down into the 60's tonight!  Yes!  I can shut of the arin conditioners and put the fan in the window.

Curt, I finally went to using Bamboo Skewers as picks and pulling out all the magnets.  The skewers allow me to spot a car, and uncouple it where I need it.  I also didn't like the looks of the between the rails type.  I had one or two of the under the track and the electromagnet types with varying degrees of success.  I used to have trains uncouple over one of the under the rail permanent ones....  Figured out it only happened with certain cars.  Each of the "certain cars" had steel axles on its trucks.  The magnet would pull the car forward just after the couplers had moved to the side and the train parted.......  Took a couple months to figure out what was happening.  THAT was 20 years ago.

Barry, hopefully it will be just one more week...  Good to hear the treatments are working!  Keeping you in my constant prayer my friend!

Ken, I hope Dave is able to buy you some more time to heal and get back to work!  Know what got me to stop smoking?  I used to smoke cigars and pipe for about 10 years.  My then 4 year old youngest son looked at me after dinner one night as I lit up a cigar and said, Daddy how come you tel the kids at school not to smoke but you do?  I quit cold turkey and never went back.  I have had two cigars in the last decade.  One was in honor of my FIL who passed away at 95.  At his funeral all the men in the family (including both my sons) went outside the Funeral home and smoked the last of his cigars in his honor.  The last one I had cost me a $10 donation to the Camp Alumni Association to sit on the porch of the office at camp and tell stories about "Skip" one of our grand old Scouters in the Council who also smoked cigars to the day he died....  The first few weeks after I quit I was always reaching for my pocket to grab one when I was at home....  got over it and glad I did!

I got part of the porch sealed today.  Did the hard part which is the railings and underside where it can be reached.  Tomorrow I will do a little over half of the deck itself and then Saturday I should be able to finish it after moving the picnic table and chairs on the deck.  The Thompson's Water Seal is just soaking in as fast as I put it on!  It may be 4 years since the last time I did it....  I should do it every other year I think.

Finally found the small board with the electronics on it I have been searching for.  It was right where I put it.  I had just about given up after saying some of those words we can't say in hear...  When It hit me!  Looked where I thought it should be and, yep, there it was right where I put it.  Should have looked there first...Whistling

Got a phone call from code enforcement in the City today.  They have the permit all ready for the PV panel installation...  I think it still has to go through the Planning Board, but that shouldn't be a problem.  Of course I was out sealing the deck...  So I didn't get the message that the guy was going to drop it off at my house tonight if I called him back until 8PM. Then I listened to the message a couple of times but couldn't make out the cell phone # he left for me.  Went to listen again and pushed the delete button instead!!!  I have done that 3 times in the last week....... GrumpySigh

Guess I will call it a night!

 Evening Dinners

 Flo, Lemonade Pleases.

Feel a little achy tonight, most of my joints hurt just a little. Might be from not doing anything for a week now.

T White Good luck on getting the monkey off your back. Sure not going well for me at this point.

Curt Looking forward to seeing a updated layout video. Glad you are enjoying the pictures as well.

Hard to believe but it is still 101 degrees here and it is all most 9:00 PM! Dead Think it is time for a offices job!

Time to head in and see what there is not to see on cable. Whistling

Evening in the diner July 2012
Posted by galaxy on Thursday, July 5, 2012 7:56 PM

Good evening, late for me.

Saw the psychiatrist tonight and renewed my meds. Its about $800 a month for my psychatric meds, but they do seem to help keep me on an even keel. He also tends to act as a secondary primary doctor as he also wants to know what else is going on medically and what is being done about it by who where.

Caught a meatball sub on the way home...sure are delicious but contains mega amounts of calories adn sure not good for the heart  or body. But I DO enjoy them and at $2.50 for a  6 incher delicious and cheap, though I think the foot long is $5 anyway..Whistling

I've periodically mentioned some of the troubles that MOH has had with the department manager of the store where MOH works. Seems the Store manager called MOH in and asked a bunch of questions and let MOH talk about the issues with the department manager. The store manager then kindly handed internal harassement documents to MOH to fill out and file! Seems MOH is wanted in the department by the store manager and the department manager is in trouble! There stilll remains the issue that there are "two strong willed personalities in the department" as the store manager put it. MOH may win out yet! He wants to keep MOH inthe department...

well,

tomorrow a hot day to do errands, but they must be done!

Nice looking gon Jeff

Not much going on here today, hot and sticky like Barry was saying. There is still a small chance of a storm tonight but I don't think anything will fire up. Went to Michales this morning to pick up some 20/0 brushes. I also stopped by the dollar store on the way home to pick up some small glass dishes that I need when painting as the plastic ones I have are getting pretty rough ( Plus the wife is sick of me stealing her good ones for painting my model trains, lol ) There calling for 104F tomorrow, Im kind of glad that I didnt get tickets for the IRL race in Toronto this year as it is going to be very hot this weekend.

Evening All,

Just had pulled pork for supper and  drinking a cup of coffee to settle my stomach (ate too much). I feel like I made about 100 phone calls to different medical offices that the Doc's  worked on me last month-had to add a secondary insurance (Tricare) so hopefully the 4 bills I have will disappear or go down. Went grocery shopping, and as always was a fun filled event.

Tomorrow I am going to Jon's (LHS) to pickup my Bachmann 44 T switcher. It has been running like doggy do-do if  you get my drift. After  that I think I am going to try to shoot a layout update video since there has been major changes since the last one. I'm making Jambalaya for supper but Jeff would  probably not like it since it's a box mix and not very spicy.

Ken- I wish you the best on your recovery and I always love the great loco photos you post. I quit smoking around 25 years ago but it was pretty darn tough to do.

TWhite- Yeah I know, it's almost sacrilegious not to have a Belpaire Fire box but I looked at several actual PRR F class photos before buying it (some had it and some didn't). Just me being rigid in my modelingEmbarrassed

JR- Thank you for the kind words.

Lee- I ordered Rare Earth magnets last night. The cost wasn't bad and I would prefer to not cut the inside track ties if I can avoid it. If the don't work then I guess I will go with the Kadee ones.

Sakel- I remember after I moved to FL and I finally bought a truck with AC after about 6 months. It was almost heaven.

Ulrich- Please take care of yourself. We all want you to be in the Diner for a long time to come.

Jeff- Nice gondola. It looks like the 3 I use for my LCL loads.

Hope everyone has a great evening and prayers for those in need.

Spent most of my day in Alexandria today. Got my mother to her eye appointment so she could have her tests done. Afterward we went to an Italian place, Corrino's I think it's called for lunch. Went by the LHS and picked up an Athearn 52' mill gondola with a load included. Also got a pack of Bachmann street signs and traffic lights. Picked it all up for half price.

Now I'm tired and sore and just want to rest.

 Afternoon Dinners!

 Flo, Diet Dew Please.

Nurse dropped by today to watch me hook up the I V drips and I got a passing grade! So I will be doing it by my self for now on. Vitals looked pretty good as well.

Infected Toe is looking real good, I hope it will be healed over by next Thursday.

Train Front Looks like I may have gave up on my first batch of PK 1000 F3's to soon! I pulled one out that still had all the wiring and motor in it, I was going to make it a dummy. For the heck of it I tested the amps the motor would pull while it was still hooked up to the trucks. It stalled out at .98 amps, so next is to install a decoder and see what happens. Vince's you might check the one I sent you, it still might be good.

All so gave my PRR M1a train to pull, you know it still pulls pretty good. It does not like one turnout, but nether does my Y6 b so I guess I will work on it.

Work Front Dave called today to see how things are going and when I will be back to work. He seemed a little shocked when I told him two weeks. Then I told him about the letter I got that stated I would be terminated if I was not at work on the 7th. He said he would make a few calls and let me know.

See you all a little later!

Afternoon guys

I've been working on the trains some more. I got quite a bit done. I got the 3 unpainted stewart chassis painted black, the Amtrak F7 mostly stripped, found my good scrubbing brush (dog got a hold of it but it's still useable), and temporarily got primer on the two GP cabs. I say temporarily because some do-hicky fell off of the tree above me and hit both cabs and messed up the primer. I think it was a seed pod or something, looks like a ball with lots of holes and burs. Walther's tracker shows the glazing for my SD7 is at the fedex office in town as off 11:30am. I hope it shows up today since that SD7 is practically finished shell wise, but I still have to clean out the trucks.

Vincent

Wants: 1. high-quality, sound equipped, SD40-2s, C636s, C30-7s, and F-units in BN. As for ones that don't cost an arm and a leg, that's out of the question....

2. An end to the limited-production and other crap that makes models harder to get and more expensive.

Hmm...

Noticed the guy down the street has a pickup truck on the market.

He has a large sign on the front windshield wipers stating: FORE SALE  !

If the FORE of the truck is bought, does the AFT come with it?

Enquiring minds want to know...

Good Evening Diners!

Well, I am a little late today. It was not really a good day for me, fighting BP issues all day long. I did manage to run a few trains, though!

Welcome back, Lupo. Hope to see you more frequent in this wonderful place. It also feels good not to be the only one from this end of the Big Pond.

Galaxy - you know, Steven had to call you on the carpet for that post! Take it lightly and smile Laugh

Enjoy your day!

Afternoon Break at the diner - July 2012
Posted by galaxy on Thursday, July 5, 2012 11:50 AM

Well, I got called on the carpet. I didn't think it was an issue, but..wondered if it COULD be considered so...so it got nixed by our esteemed Steven Otte.

SO much for trying to do the good deeds for the people in need...

I've been wrong before and will be wrong again in the future, as is everybody.

Well, dishes are done.

Laundry is half done.

I get to see My Psychiatrist tonight. He had an opening,sO I took it. Now I just have to remember it!

I was wrong about today being the hot one. It is tomorrow that we will be 93*, and Possibly "pushing 100*"...that is a heck of a discrepancy of 7 *, maybe he meant the heat index....see i was wrong agian...

WAiting for a call back from the Dr./s office, not getting a response after 3 messages to his nurse's phone....maybe have to set up new appt just to get the issue of "prior authorization" on a script taken care of? That would be  redundant and a waste of the peoples money for an appointment when a follow up phone call will do. Maybe she went on vacation but someone should manage her phone!

MOH leaving in a few minutes for work...

On to the boring chores...

Morning all from SunnyCal.  Our expected high today is 89, and after that, we're expected to have about four or five days over 100.  Seems that midwest heat bubble is expanding and it's OUR turn!

Had a very noisy Fourth, all the neighbors set off fireworks, and there was a huge show at the high school, which is about two blocks from where I live.  The cats were not amused.   Uff-Dah made a dash for under the bed and didn't come out until about midnight, Spooky just sat in the window and watched (she also likes thunderstorms).   Chester hid under the computer when he wasn't on my lap.

Jim:  Doesn't look as if Chester is going to enter the general household cat population for a while--I had him tested, and he's FIP (Feline Immune Virus) positive, which means though he's not infected with the virus, he could be a 'carrier'.  The vet wants him re-tested in a month, because older cats that have lived outdoors most of their lives can also show a 'false' Positive.  FIV is the kitty equivalent of AIDS, but is only transmitted directly from bites between cats (humans can't catch it from a cat).  The vet seems to think that Chester is a 'false' positive, because cats don't usually live with the virus much after 7 years, and Chester will be 14 pretty soon.  So for right now, it's the computer room (and my lap) for him.  He's a real sweetie, though.  Hopefully----

Curt:  I love those turntable photos.  Egad, did I spy a Pennsylvania steamer without a Belpaire firebox there?   of course, I understand that the Pennsy had some--but REALLY nice work!Bow

Jeff:  That Rocket/Rooster story is fracturingly funny.  Made my day reading it.  Thanks.

Ken:  I'm on the Nicoderm patch and it seems to be working pretty well for me.  5th day w/o, and I've only had an occasional 'twinge'.   Did you say that your Port is in your arm?  I remember when I had kidney failure and was on Dialysis, the port was in my chest, right below my throat.  Had to learn not to sleep on my stomach.  NOT fun!  Get well, okay?  I'm praying for you.

Went over to Roseville Hobbies last Tuesday and picked up the Woodland Scenics track maintainance kit.  The one with the handle and all of the rubber and felt track-cleaning attachable goodies.  Tried it out yesterday.  Works like a dream.  I think between that and my Atlas cleaning car with the vacuum attachment, I can keep the MR relatively pollen-free this summer.   FINALLY fixed the kink in the one curve, just pulled the track, re-adjusted it, and it works fine (for now).  But that's what I get for having a MR in an uninsulated garage in the middle of the Sacramento Valley during summers that can climb to the lower 100's for weeks at a time.

Got the under-table speakers all positioned and installed for my Maxx-Traxx sound system, and oh, my, had to do some SERIOUS volume adjusting--even just barely cracked, the new speakers make it sound as if i'm INSIDE the locomotive cab, LOL!   Talk about bass response--my Yellowstones sounded like the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse.  It's all good now--sound when I want it, silent when I don't.

Well, it's time to feed the cats, grab some toast, pop some pills and head out to the garage for the morning 'tinkering'.  Best to all, prayers for those in need.

Happy Thursday Modelers!

Lisa and I got the heck out of town for the 4th and got in some RRAdventures time plus did some other stuff in and around 11,000-12,000 altitude range.  When we drove back into town the city was in a haze from smoke so we jumped to see what the news was and to our surprise it was smoke coming in from Wyoming from their fires.  Seems like the entire Front Range is burning these days; but, at least for Colorado fires are slowly coming under control...

Well, it's official, JUNE was the HOTTEST is Record History here and we have been above 95F for nearly two weeks straight.  They say some serious RAIN is coming in by the weekend - YIPPEE!!!!!!!; but, that too can be bad news for mudslides in the burn areas and could cause damage to the Colorado Spring water supply...

Hope to have my Travel Blog updated by the weekend from yesterday's travels so stay tune for that...

Good morning - a bit cooler in New England, low 80s and it should be below 70 by bedtime.  Still, I'd like to have it cooler, too.

I spent most of yesterday putting cobblestone sheet on the layout and adding a small one-lane car bridge over a canal.  I can finish up a lot of the scenery over the weekend, I hope.

Zoe, I'll have a short stack of blueberry pancakes w/ Maple Syrup, a side order of breakfast sausage, and my usual dark roast coffee in a R&GV RR mug.  Please and Thank You Ma'am!

Relatively nice outside here in the Finger Lakes this morning...  Currently 74°F with a high this afternoon in the low 80's...  We could sure use some liquid sunshine though!  Even the weeds have stopped growing!  I know, Maybe if I got to w*rk and waterproof the deck it will precipitate.........Whistling  I do have to get THAT done soon.

I have a bunch of odds and ends planned for the day including a trip to the recyclers, my allergy shot, and checking out what I need to buy to start painting the deck.  Hopefully I will be able to find the missing board I was looking for yesterday among all the other stuff to do.....

Later!

Italian Roast coffee in a  SUNNY SOUTHERN  mug, please.

Other than a tweaked neck from farm work yesterday, all is well.

Have a good day everyone!

Cheers, Cowboy Rob
