Morning all...
Coffee, white with two. Hmmm might have a chew on one of those deep fried spring rolls.
Happy 4th July to all that make time for it.
Just found part of my damned fence has fallen over after 23 years of partitioning the neighbors house off it has given up. The Insurance company says they wont cover it unless the wind speed is able to be calculated. I told them I am not sure when the thing fell over as it is behind the shed and its not in plain view from my or my neighbors back yard. I didn't realise people actually sit around watching fences to see when they fall over.
We had a storm last week so it may have happened then. But hay I still have to wait for Homeswest( Government rental scheme for low income families) to sort out their side of the 50/50 repair.
Looks like their dog gets a bigger playground for a while. Not to worry she is only tiny. I hope the presents she leaves are just as tiny.
Hydro therapy this morning was not so nice but it is done and now I sit here with a heat pack on the knee for a bit. No pain no gain they say.
Well no real progress worth popping up today so all have a good day and take care of yourselves.
Cheers...
Chris from down under...
We're all here because we're not all there...
Ken, glad to hear you're back in the train/snake room and on the mend!
Happy Fourth of July for all 'south of the border' diners!

Evenin' folks!
Janie just a tall glass of lemonade right now, please.
Temperature outside will stay above 70°F tonight..... THAT is something we usually have 2 or 3 nights of in August.... That's all! The rain was a few drops and gave us a sum total of 0 inches earlier.... They are saying we will double that amount overnight... Let's see 0 times 2 is.... Ah? Don't think the drought is over just yet!
Ken, glad to see you are back home and on the mend! As others have said and I think you already know, time for some lifestyle changes!!! Just keep reminding yourself how much money you will have to spend on trains without the cost of beer and cigarettes! You continue in my prayers for a good outcome.
Lee, no passwords or other info on the unit. It just connects up to 4 computers to the modem through it's own IP address. I assume the Netgear Switch (hub) I just put in does exactly the same thing. They are both "Plug and Play". The new one has corrected all the little quirks I was having and the internet is now blazing fast and stable once again. Funny thing is my old, old G4 Mac had 1000Mbit as did the G5 that died last February.... All this time I have been using a 10Mbit/100Mbit hub.... Duh!
[edit] Tom, on quitting the smoking! Love the bridge, BTW.
I managed to get a lot of odds and ends done today. Got my hair cut (OK, I had them all cut), cleaned out more junk (electronics) for recycling, spent a couple hours in the trainrooms tearing out and rebuilding in some places. The Homabed I ordered back in early April finally arrived yesterday..... I won't go into detail, but I won't be ordering anything else from him. Looking at what has to be done to get it installed, I think I shall stick with cork roadbed. I have some that was installed 30 years ago that is still holding up and since I don't think I have another 30 years in me, the cork is cheaper and easier to use. I may use up the Homabed on some future dioramas or give it away (sell maybe) to someone who wants to use it.
Hope you all have a great evening and a wonderful 4th. of July tomorrow!!!

We'll get there sooner or later!
Ah, gotcha Vincent, sounds good. I can book it up to the Y in about ten minutes, but there’s a bunch of people etc. Nice prototype for the GP5.
Ken, glad to see a MOPAR brother back!
Tom, thanks man, I just have to pray to God for patience every day, and so far He’s blessed me with it abundantly Also glad to hear you’re feeling better man, and good on ya to quit smoking!
Well, not much planned for tomorrow, I’m going to go to aaron’s tmrw and we’ll walk up to Gamestop and then come back to his house. I’ll be taking my pastels and paper over and I’m hoping to teach him a bit about art and design and composing scenes, since his dad has their little backyard set up really nicely (weeping willow, three Japanese Maples, and some red mulch, along with other little bushes etc). We’ll see what actually sticks, but I hope it’ll be something he doesn’t know much about yet and so I can help him know a little more, which is part of what his dad wants him doing. Then a few of my friends and I are going over to the friend of one of my friend’s house to swim and celebrate the fourth. Should be a fun day.

Afternoon from SunnyCal, and I suppose I'd better be VERY careful about saying that--our high today was 90, and we're expecting 94 for the 4th. So, for everybody else in America, I do sincerely apologize for our good weather. I MEAN it, guys--that heat wave you're experiencing must be sheer Hell--the news is covered with those storms on the East Coast and temperatures ranging up to 108--man, my utmost sympathies.
Had to do some catching up, a lot has certainly happened since last I visited. Some of it pretty darned serious, too.
Jeff: I hope that paintball incident left you okay--I actually went Paintballing with a few of my students a couple of years ago (the "Nerd Herd" as they called themselves) and even with the proper equipment, those things HURT! Obviously those idiots that paintballed you either have no idea of how dangerous they are, or are just too bloody dumb to care. I hope you're OK.
Ken: I hope you're on the mend, buddy. You're going into my Prayer Schedule at church.
Sawyer: A great BIG bow to you for becoming a Big Brother to an Autistic boy. That just puts you WAY Over The Top on my Admiration Meter.
Sackel: , I hope you enjoy it here. This is a very Nifty bunch of people to hang around with!
J.R.: Whoa, you've got MY bridge (or I have yours, either one, LOL!) Great work!
Well, I got to take my own little trip to Emergency last Sunday, seems I had a really Major COPD attack and ended up with a breathing treatment. Triple dose of Albuterol for about an hour, cleand me out good and proper, it did. And so I finally made the Big Decision. NO MORE SMOKING!!! Put on the Patch Sunday afternoon, tossed the Newports and guess what? So far I don't even miss them. And my breathing is at least 75% better, just in 3 days. Luckily, I found out that I do NOT have Emphysema, just a particularly nasty case of Chronic Bronchitis, which, if I promise to be a Good Boy, should improve considerably. Not go away, mind you, at 72 it's a little late for that, but at least become manageable. How I escaped having Emphysema is absolutely beyond me--I must be built like a Sherman Tank or something. So now I have two things to monitor--kidney disease and Bronchitis. But I can't tell you how much better I feel in just 3 days. And believe it or not, I don't miss the cigarettes, which is a REAL surprise, since I have never been famous for my Will Power.
Bought the Woodland Scenics track cleaning kit (not the plug in one, the kit with the handle and all of the pads), so hopefully between that and my Atlas track-cleaning cars I can remain relatively pollen-free this summer on the layout. Also picked up some Grandt Line row houses and a Walthers wooden peel n' press building for the loco yard area. Still have to work on some kinky track (I'm saying to Heck with it and re-laying it with wide-radius EZ 34" radius). And now that I'm feeling partially human again, I'll be spending the 4th in the garage.
Happy 4th everyone. Best to all and sincere prayers to those in need.
Tom

Hi Fellas,
Good to see you back Ken.
What a hot sticky day we had here, had a decent storm this afternoon too but only made it feel worse. Tomorrow there calling for 33C but feeling like 41C, got to love Southern Ontario weather where in February its -40c and in the summer its 40C,lol
Feeling better after yesterday, thought I was getting a cold but turned out to just be allergies, plus the day before I spent way too much time in the sun. I will put out the garbage tomorrow and then that will probably be it for any outdoors activity. I love the summer but right now its just way too warm out there to do anything and actually enjoy it.
Time for me to call it a night. See y'all tomorrow.

Hi Gang,
Chloe, I'll have a slab of bourbon ribs and a double RBF, when you get a chance.
OH, HAPPY DAY............. Cuda Ken is back in the land of the living and just in time for the Fourth Of July celebrations here in the Diner.
Great to have you back Ken and sincerely hope that everything continues to go well for you.
Since you've been gone, Jeff got shot in the head, Lee has been chasing down free blue styro-foam that came by his place in a wind storm and Garry has been sharpening his babysitting skills. Other than that things are pretty much normal. CN Charlie, is still trying to get over his Anniversary celebration, J.R. is getting ready for Pomona this week-end and I'm back to work for a couple in the morning. (this to shall pass)
Been doing some RIP track work today.,,,,, because I made a major goof inside the mountain range where one line crosses over a lower one. I thought I had proper clearance and then I went and put another re-enforcement under it and guess what ??? my double stacks don't come out the same way they go in. So in a engineering spectacular, rather than tearing into the mountain, I decided to take 1/8 of an inch off the bottom container of the three double stacks and now it clears (if only by a cat's whisker). I really don't intend on having anymore double stacks anyway, so this was a good quick fix.. .Rivet Counters, keep it to yourselves, I know you are not impressed but, this is how the LM&E stays viable in this financial crisis. WE have tornado warnings in several places in the province and a couple of touchdowns by Diefenbaker Lake. These should all blow through in a couple of hours. It was 31 C. here today but will cool off a bit then hot on the week-end again.
Hope ya all have a great week.

Ken, glad you’re back and in “good shape” rest and heal up.
Boy the storms just haven’t let up, still pouring down rain like crazy and lots of lightning. I wish I could share with the dry areas.
Nice switch tower Curt.
Ray, before you throw out the old unit, if it has any stored passwords: soak it in a bucket of salt water overnight before trashing it. If you don’t save the power supply cut the cord and dispose of it.

KEN! Glad to see you back! So help me, I'm actually happy to see your bad grammar. So who did you have to kill to get out of there?
Hey Gang, I am Back!
Flo, Lemonade Pleases.
What a week! I will go into more details Wednesday but I am sure glad to be back in Train / Snake Room.
Over all I got a lot of good news. Heart is still fine, as Simon all ready reported I have good blood flow and my A1C (long term sugar) test came back way better than I hoped it would at 7.8. Still a little high, should be 7.0 or lower.
My left arm looks like it has had a hammer taken to it, because of the vein's that blew out from the Piggy Backs they where using. My right arm has a Picking Block in it right now an it does bother me. It has to stay in for the next 4 to 5 weeks.
I am not out of the wood yet, but I am getting there.
Thanks for all the well wishes I got from folks here! But I will need some more in the coming month's.
Going to lay down now.

The dentist visit went well. No issues, and the receptionist was pretty hot. lol
Sakel: It's a GP5, starting point is a P2K GP9 III. Basically they are the trucks, motor, and other guts from retired FTs stuck into GP9 carbodies. Being that they were built in 1958-59 they look like Phase 3 GP9s, but have stats on par with the FTs. I'm building BN 1365 which was the only low-nose GP5:http://www.rrpicturearchives.net/Locopicture.aspx?id=44549
I'm pretty sure I have everything I need, except I may be short a few wire grabs because I forgot about the GN's double grabs. I could use the stock P2K grabs, but they are hard to paint.
Sawyer, The ocean is 7 hours away, the gulf is about 30 minutes if traffic is good. The bayou I swim in is about 150 yards away, but I walk to an area about 1/4 mile away to swim because there is a park there.
Vincent
Wants: 1. high-quality, sound equipped, SD40-2s, C636s, C30-7s, and F-units in BN. As for ones that don't cost an arm and a leg, that's out of the question....
2. An end to the limited-production and other crap that makes models harder to get and more expensive.
Janie, I'll have the hamburger steak med rare covered with mushrooms and gravy; the sauteed zucchini, peppers, and onions; Garlic bread; and a tall glass of unsweetened ice tea please!
Just finished the new hook-up for the ethernet system... Had to reset the cable modem to get it to find the new equipment. All I can say is "WOW"! Guess I have been missing out on some speed here.... Everything is loading 10 times faster.... Uh, yep, it went from 100 Mbs to 1000 Mbs which I think explains it...... And all the sites are coming up the first time rather than asking for it again and again. Think the old Belkin unit was about done for anyway.
Tonight I plan to head down to the train room for a bit. may check in from the Mac Mini down there.
Later!

Every time I open the July Diner thread, I see Jeff at the opening post with the red paint. Jeff, I hope you cleaned up the red paint by now and you are okay.
Simon ... Thanks for the info about Ken. Tell him we care.
Busy with grand daughters in town. This morning the weather improved, and we went fishing. *-year-old caught a 5 1/2 pound catfish.
Ran a few trains, but not much more model railroading to report.
Have a nice day !

I have this sneaky suspicion that there's about to be a rash of Andy Griffith movies on the one eyed wonder. He passed away this morning at the age of 86.
R.I.P. Andy Griffith.
So long sheriff Andy Taylor.
Afternoon again....
Just got the OK to dilute the couple of teaspoons of fog Juice with water and pour it down the drain from the water/sewer dept. It is mostly Propylene Glycol and a bit of Glycerine. Some plants can handle it and some can't, so I figured it was best to ask. I can bnow put the old machine ijn the recyle pile.
The weather service says it will be around 94°F around here at 4PM, then some thunderboomers are rolling through and will drop the temp to 69° by 5PM. By 7PM we will be back up to 81°F Interesting day........ I do hope we get some rain out of it. Starting to get dark outside........
I just got a package from Staples. It contains a new Ethernet hub that should be about 10 times faster than the old antique I have been using... I have noticed problems at times with sites not conecting or not coming through correctly on the new 'puter, so I figure I will try getting rid of the bottle neck and see what happens. Should know by later tonight.
Packer The thermometer says it's only 90, but the heat index is around 110. Either way that means getting into my car is like stepping into a sauna. But it looks like it might rain today.

Afternoon All,
I go into w**k at 4 PM today and get off at 1 AM. nothing much going on here other being on the phone most the day trying to get some issues resolved with my medical insurance.
On another note I put together the PRR tower and replaced the tower on my engine servicing area.
Simon- Thanks for the update on Ken.
Sawyer- Nice work on the diorama.
Sakel- Welcome to the Diner.
JR- Good luck on the race.
Everyone take care and prayers for those in need.

Afternoon folks!
Chloe, a tall glass of iced tea would taste good right now....
89°F outside on my porch right now where I have been sitting trying to use the ancient old smoke/fog fluid with the Fog Machine I bought way back when I was in the DJ and Theater business..... Suprised the police or fire dept. haven't paid me a visit yet.......... The unit still runs, but I don't really want to sell it or give it to someone else. It is old and has seen better days. I was successful in sending all the High School students in Red Creek, NY out into the cold one night when I was using it at a school dance.... They had one of those clarity fire systems that has an electric eye that will go off if the beam is interrupted. Nobody including the administration had thought of THAT when I brought in the fog machine....... I just got told to put it away and not bring it anymore!
Have found a number of old devices and machines to take over to the Recycling place here in town later this week. I am cleaning out the spare bedrooms off and on and today, since I am waiting for a courier delivery this afternoon seemed to be a good time to continue the process.
Good to hear Ken is on the mend and may be able to keep all his toes and feet..... Do hope he will stick to the diet and lifestyle changes he will be given!!! My barber has been struggling with much of the same thing. He was found about 10 months ago out cold on the floor of his shop by a customer who happened to walk in right after he had a major heart attack..... After some stents and other stuff he was given 6 months to get so he could walk the 200 feet out the road and back without major pain in his legs.... He seems to be doing OK now, at least for the moment. He used to be one of those, "Aww Cigarettes never hurt anyone.. My great grandfather smoked every day of his life and he lived to be 97 years old..." guys. He is still struggling to get over a 3 pack a day habit!
Back to having fun making fog for the neighborhood.....
Afternoon guys
Errands are done, dropped my sister off at her BF's, went to the post office and dropped off a package for $10.03, then went to the bank and cashed my check that I wasn't able to cash yesterday. Car needs gas, but that can wait till Thursday. I figure I have about 60-75 more miles on it before I need gas.
I did work on some RR projects though:My order from Des Plaines and Atlas came in, and now I have all the parts needed to finish my GP5. A coupler cut bar from Detail Associates, and some steps from cannon. If I could find the sill from the HH GP20 P2K did, It'd save me some work, but you can't win them all. I figure once I figure out how to use cannon steps I should have it all put together in a week or two, provided the nose doesn't give me any more trouble. If all goes well with the GP5, I'll have enough parts to make a similar-looking GP9; probably BN 1947.
If I could find my small brushes (sister probably has them and messed them up) I'd work on my GP38X's new handrails (old ones broke, no suprise there.
Simon, Thank's for the update on Ken. Looks like the hard part may just be beginning for him
Sawyer, I would get back into running in the morning, if it wasn't for working all the time at 6am. I could swim to keep cool since I live a couple of blocks from the beach.
Chris, I have an athearn RTR RS3 that's given me fits from the moment I got it. Luckily it cost nothing but time to fix since athearn replaced a bunch of parts for free. Other then the initial issues it's a really nice loco, given I only got it for $25.
i tell you what, those construction workers had their hands full chasing those sheets, Sun is out now and I think the rains moved well to the south...
Simon. Thanks for the update and good news about Ken.
Lee. Did you send all that rain my way? And how much time did you spend chasing free 4" styrofoam sheets?
MB - thanks. I now have a wide brimmed hat for summer days after having bad stuff grow on my neck this spring. J.R.
sakel I will have to keep those rules in mind, and as for the children part, on the 7th I will be turning 14.
I will have to keep those rules in mind, and as for the children part, on the 7th I will be turning 14.
Simon: Thanks for the update on Ken. That's great that the antibios are working. He's still got an uphill battle. It took me about five years to get rid of that dang sore on my left big toe.
Got my errand to the post office done. Only cost me $15.23. Afterward I went to Wal-Mart and spent $46.92 of the states money on thirty-eight food items. Back home now. I'm really tired for some reason. Head feels a little fuzzy, eyes burn and ears are ringing. Of course all I've had today is an oatmeal creme cookie and a Dr Pepper so that probably has something to do with it. It's almost lunchtime so I'll soon have more substantial to munch on.
Well we are having a nice storm; I think any worries about dry grass for the 4th of July has been taken care of. The construction site across the street from work almost lost all their 4” thick blue Styrofoam when the winds picked up and several yards of dirt at the port blue into town like a sand storm. I bet we will have a good 1-2” of rain out of this storm before it blows over.
