Welp, it´s a little late for a "Good Morning" at this end of the Big Pond. It´s past lunchtime, and I just woke up from a short nap. Have not been feeling really well the last few days.

Zoe,  strong coffee in my Enoshima Electric Railway mug, please.

Todd - 6" by 12" is not really a lot of reals estate to work with, so one has to come up with some odd ideas how to implement some sort of urban scenery. Those Japanese do an awful good job in making the best use of little spaces.

I just wish I had a little more room for some more modules Smile, Wink & Grin I could put the entire line on about 200 modules. That figure could go down to 100, if I´d use "selective compression" of the individual scenes. Our apartment would be just big enough, if I put up shelves in every room we have. I doubt that Petra would like it, though.

Have a good one!

Hey just thought of something. If I were to claim Mexican based on my GGGrandfathers country of birth (technically) would that make me Latino? Hmm

Good Morning!!!

Caramel roll please. Oh yes and coffee thank you.

Mostly sunny, with a high near 89. Looks like we're in for a cool off for at leat a week. The ole Blackberries just might recover. They've taken a good hit because of this intense heat

Well I see my weekend activities kept me away so I missed Jeff’s Birthday Party.

Happy B-Day Jeffrey!!!

You too Young Sam.

Barry- You lucky…Whistling..I tell you what you have the Model Railroadn’-est neighborhood/town I’ve ever heard. You keep tellin all the stuff that shows up at garage sales and folks just a chuckin things like Challengers at ya, and you may find a bunch of us move up there and horn in on your little gold minePirate Laugh.

Ulrich- Thanks for posting the video. Gave me some ideas about what to do if the structure is too big for the space. I think about cutting structure in half or so for the background, but never thought about the foreground. Don’t know if I’ll need to yet but it’s something to consider using. It ddidn’t look too bad on the video. Don’t know if I’d wanna do it a lot, but one or two if needed may not be that bad.

Filled out the latest Census surveySigh. Claimed nationality or ethnicity…TexanYes. Probably get a call on that oneMischief Hey, what are they gonna do? They asked. I’m as much Texan as the wife is Italian. Check this out, my Great Grandfather was born in Texas in 1836 so it was a Nation then as much as any other country right? so…. Texan. His Father was born in Tejas as well but in 1805 Hmmso I guess I could claim Mexican or whoever had claims to it then. My family never was big on the “where we were froms” as most are I guess. All I ever heard was “My Father come up from Texas to Calhoun county and I was born there.” “Gee Grandpa, where was his Dad from.” “Texas”. Well Grandpa, where was HIS Dad from” (Grandpa scratches his chin) Confused "Don’t know. Never said." As for my Dad’s side, Dad said his parents were from Indiana and that’s all he knows. They didn’t worry about what boat their family came over on either I guess. May be I'm the way I am. As far as I’m concerned I was born here, and that makes me United Statsian born and bred.

Went to my maternal Grandmothers family reunion Sunday (they never stated where they were from either. Three strikes). Pretty much the only family reunions I’ve ever attended that I recall. Or ever remember even knowing about for that matter. They’ve held them in Pittsfield for a while now. Most the family come from in around the Nebo / Pleasant Hill area, but of course most have now dissipated to where just the few are still down there. My Aunt being one. She and my Mom are from there and my Aunt married a Nebo farm boy and has been there all her life. Wonder if they’ll keep it there when she’s gone. Don’t know if I’ll go any more when that happens.

Welp gotta run Brenda’s car up to Lincoln this afternoon so’s they can give a trade in value to her. She went up Saturday with me to look at these three cars she’d picked out and test drove a couple. Charger, Challenger and a 300 (used year old). She has one of those now. A 1999 300M which she just absolutely looooves and hates to get rid of, but you know age has it's issues. Been a great car though. No problems. Now she wants to see if a trade in will bring her more than what she’s been offered privately. Then she will work out the best deal she can get on the three it sounds. She can’t really decide so she’ll just take the one she gets the deal she’s happiest with. Or, shemay just decide to pu on a set of struts and call it cheaper than a new one. She did mention that yesterday after her return fom town in it.

Ya’ll have a good day!!!!

Good Morning All,

This morning it feels pretty good outside.  After work I plan on building the legs for the 4x8 layout and maybe a coat of paint will be in order.  Other than that not much planned.

R.I.P. Ernest Borgnine. He passed away today at age 95.

Time for me to call it a night. No layout work today but I did run a train for a while. First with the three GP9 Frankenlocos then with the F7A-F3B-F3B Frankenlocos. Weather here was on the verge of rain. Very humid and sticky. Went to see my sister today. Just the walk from my van up the hill to her porch was enough to get me soaked what with the high humidity. That's it for today. See y'all tomorrow.

I actually got something finished today; the 4x8 bench work is waiting out in the garage for a coat of paint, hopefully I can do that after work tomorrow.  One of the guys from the club will be stopping over Thursday with road bed and track.

Jim there is 8 automotive repair shops on one street here all within sight of the other so competition are pretty stiff.  I’m sure the worse thing would be to see my truck sitting in front of the next garage….

Jeffery So you think the buzzing is coming from the commutator. I going to try polishing it with 2000 grit paper, think that will help? Any other ideas? If I can not get it quieter I try some foam in the shell, but not around the motor.

Cleaning the commutator usually works for me. I've never tried polishing it with fine grit sandpaper. May work, may not. One thing I've done in the past is to remove part of the brush springs. Not much, just a coil at a time until it quiets down. Make sure you have extra brush springs on hands before attempting this. I use it only as a last resort.

 Flo, Lemonade Pleases.

Got mt running done and got Shaddy her dog food. Kind of hard handling a 50 pound bag with just one arm!

Dash 9 Front Cleaned the commutator with CRC and it might be a little quieter Still sound like a Mad Bee but it sure does run well! I have a pair of PK 1000's running at 42% power and it is keeping up at only 22%. For now I am running it with out a shell.

Hey all!

Been awhile once again. I can never seem to come here regularly for an extended period of time, can I?

I've been drafting up plans for the EMPIRE... well, new layout at my dad's place. He's given me a room that is ~9x10 feet (it's 9ft8in, close enough)

That's the general idea for the plan. 24" minimum radius (except mountain line), #6 minimum turnout for the mains, #4 for sidings. Maximum gradient is 4%, the topmost track on the plan heads up a 4% to the left, through 15" curves up to a mine or a small town or something. I love mountain running and operations, so hopefully this plan will allow me to do both. Green is mountains that block stuff, big black lines are the edge of the layout and the door's swinging area.

See you all later.

Sunday early bird special... 2012
Posted by galaxy on Sunday, July 8, 2012 3:02 PM

Well, well,

only one load of laundry of several left to do. Will do it either later if I feel like it or tomorrow.

Bagged up cans and bottles, We put them in a huge diaper box in a very large garbage bag. the return cneter need s them sorted by type/size/kind etc. to make it easier on us to return them, I count them out and mark each whiote tall kitchen garbage bag with the size, kind, and count on it so we don't spend FOREVER waiting while they do that. ... they typically take us at our word for our counts. I don't have areason to cheat..soo..it is better for us and them if I do it that way. I have coupons to get an extra 1/2 cent on the bottles/cans. They already pay a penny over the 5cent paid for deposit, so I get 6.5 cents per container. Then, after 10 returns of 250 or more {i think it is} when I get my card stamped, we get 7 cents per container! last we took in and got $50.70 cents. for aobut 3 months worth of containers..I think I  drik too much seltzer water {no calories, just fizzy water with flavor} aNd MOH drinks too much tonic water {the quinine is good for muscle spasms and cramps}. We don;t drink soda or other crap.

Ribs are slow basting in the oven. MMM MMM!!! we will have a salad and some pasta salad with them!

MOH be home in about 1 and 1/4 hours, ribs eatin in 1 1/2!

MOH has been transfered to front end cashier and coffee shop in the store, so it ends the drama with the dept. manager who was such a problem. STill have to file the harrasement/complaint forms...will do that tomorrow. we have a 5 page document for that !

Later,

Geeked

Afternoon, Flo - I'll have a chili dog (with cheese & onions), and a RBF please. Thank you.

Sam, looks like you didn't need my suggestion on the assembly (hmm, maybe he's smarter than me?...Huh?). One MRR club where I used to belong had an intermodal section with one of those cranes, lots o'stacks, and the rails buried almost level with the concrete. I recall that it was 'fun' for the guy who 'poured' the 'concrete'. I think he used some kind of construction 'mud', because it didn't crack so badly (still took him a one/two touchups after the initial pour).

Lee, I wish I knew of a place like your mechanic's, around here. That, or how to persuade him to move here...Smile, Wink & Grin (Especially with those kind of prices!)

Barry, you got a MTH Challenger? Cool! So even with your locos, you "Barry-size" them, eh? Whistling

Garry, maybe you could have your wife take a photo of you and the granddaughter on the dock, and sell it to Hallmark...? Cute photo of that F-unit! (Though I doubt that the engineer for that one would agree...) Did you get any rain last night/today? Some church friends who live just south of Cape said that they got rain last night. Sigh Maybe we'll get that rain that was forecast for us today.

Ulrich, how high off the floor are your modules? Maybe you could use my suggestion and lease out space over your neighbor's furniture to extend them. It sounds like you have our (until this year) typical July weather - hot (but not as bad as this year), and afternoon pop-up showers that mostly wet the streets and create a little fog rising off of them. Close?

Rob, are you doing new stuff on your farm, or are you still cleaning up from that storm? I know you mentioned having a lot of branches/trees down from it. Are your livestock doing okay?

I had one call out earlier today, but it didn't involve any hospitalization, so I'm done and back here for lunch. Dinner. Thought we might be getting rain at one point (was clouding over), but not so far.

I took a look at the Accurail Santa Fe (plug-door) reefer car kit, and they have gone to added-on drop grabs, which look to be more prototypical thickness. So that means, I will need to be more careful (both when cutting them from the sprue, as well as when gluing them on).

Last night, I fiddled some with my future layout plan - swapped the mine and the sawmill to opposite side sections of the plan. Now I'm wondering about maybe a multi-deck plan, except that all of those I've seen are fastened to the walls (which living in an apartment, I have doubts that the landlord would okay). All my current stuff is free-standing, with space underneath for some storage (but there *are* support legs at the ends of each module/section. Have to think on that for a bit...

Blessings and prayers,

Jim in Cape G.

 Afternoon Folks!

 Flo, Diet Dew Pleases.

Been reading this post from another site. Charlie built a pole barn in his back yard and built a train room. It was fun reading and looking at the pictures of a bare backyard to a good sizes layout.

 http://www.the-gauge.net/forum/viewtopic.php?f=46&t=2638

You will all so see a lot of familiar names on the thread. Curt, he is doing a PRR railroad, lots of steam!

Jeffery Thanks for the tip and I will give it a try. Will re-oil the bearing first after I clean it.

Simon Picked up my PK 2000 E-7 today to see if he can get it to work. We had it running yesterday and as soon as he left, it quit working? Whistling It will make the sounds like it is working but won't move. Simon thinks one of my solder joint failed, could be. Sometimes when you move the wires it will move. He did re-solder the wires yesterday and all seemed good, till he left.

Sue Glad you are enjoying the pictures.

See you all late, I got to go get dog food.

Afternoon folks!

Just got home a while ago from the Museum.  Very nice morning out there.  I arrived at 8AM sharp and was on train at 8:30.  We had a LOTS (Lionel Operating Train Society) tour this morning out there before normal hours.  Great bunch of folks and LOTS of fun......

Guess I will change out of my "Trainman's Uniform" and get some other things done.

Good Evening Folks!

It´s been a somewhat awkward day today. The weather went on a roller coaster again - from sunshine to a heavy thunderstorm back to sunshine. It´s not that hot, "only" up to 77 F at noon, but it is wet & "sticky". I shouldn´t be complaining, this is our usual summer weather, thanks to the benefits of the gulf stream and prevailing south-westerly winds. Southern Germany is still having a bad time - lots of thunderstorms, rain, hail storms and flooding.

I was not up to doing much today. Spent some time at the computer, doing research for my new modules. I was able to track the line on Google Maps and also found an inspirational video of a layout.

watch?v=bI602HTAjs&feature=playerdetailpage

Some of the findings I incorporated into the layout design:

I need to figure out how to scenic Kamakura Station. I could also use some more feet of shelf space - Sigh

Well, time to run the evening train, just to keep the dust off the tracks!

Have a good one!

Good morning, Diners.  Today, we have an operations  session at a friends home.  That is the layout where I dispatch.  It looks like I will get to operate, if I am not asked to help the dispatcher.  WooHoo!

Ken,  I am enjoying your posts of locos.

Jim,  That is the best looking RBF.  I will try to stop by for one after our operations session.

Barry ..... I think you just caused all the Diners to become envious, and you know coveting other people's stuff is a "No No". ... Are you trying to lead us astray? ...... Seriously, glad to hear about it.

Our grand-daughters are continuing to enjoy the visit. It was nice last evening sitting on the dock fishing with one of them. It would have been a good scene for a Geritol advertisement. Laugh

On the model railroad, I'm dot doing much lately. However, I buy a few more decoders, and am converting more locomotives to DCC. .... If I get a chance, I will post a picture of some vehicles I put togethr from resin kits a couple of weeks ago.

Dash 9 Front Found a low power draw motor (Athearn BB) and now the Dash 9 run's at correct speed. But the motor makes a terrible racket. It was noisy before I installed it. Going to try some ATF per Jeffery and see if it will quite some. Any other ideas Jeffery?

Clean the commutator with some CRC 2-26.

Good morning. It's 73° and mostly cloudy. The high will be 88°. Showers and thunderstorms are likely.

Nothing special planned for today. Got some cleanup work to do on the layout. May run some trains later. Now back to watching "The man with the golden gun".

 Flo, Diet Dew Pleases.

Well we got a Lightning last night, not sure if we got any rain. When I got up and looked at the back patio it was dry. High today will be only 90? Boy that seems cool now! Laugh

Work Front I still have my job, well till this coming Friday. But, I have to get a Dr releases first. Don't think that is going to happen by then.

74F and Raining here; not that I’m complaining after the heat and humidity this past week.  I never made it out to the garage yesterday to build the bench work for that 4x8 layout I was just too darn muggy so I wandered around Wal-Mart and Home Depot for a while after I got the truck out of the shop.  The truck has been acting like it was starving for fuel so the local mechanic gave it the once over and it looks like I picked up some really high sulfur fuel.  $23.18 to rotate the tires, inspect the rear brakes, sea-foam the fuel system, inspect/test the alternator, starter, and batteries.  I love the small business shops that still care about customers over the profit margin.

Sam, I take it that you have several containers to go with that Mi-Jack already, yes? Read the directions very carefully, and with the parts sprues in hand, so you are sure which part it's calling for at each step. (Voice of a couple of less-than-great experiences speaking...).

got it assembled, painting it now....as for containers, I have a maxi-III double-stacked and a husky stack with a container and a 4-unit set of impak car and 2 trailers......So i'm set for that....I just need to lay a spur to get to itSmile, Wink & Grin
