Ulrich, last year we had 66” to 77” of rain, this year we have had almost none so I’ll bottle this weather for you and have it shipped right over.
Yesterday I poured some molds I had made; on attempt #3 I was able to cast an HO-Scale farm tractor. I’m painting them up and will share some pictures this weekend.
One of the club members stopped and picked me up for the train club meeting last night I had a good time, but I talked too much (story of my life) and the left side of my face went numb. I took 600mg of calcium and everything went back to normal. Too bad I don’t have a meter or something to tell me when my body needs calcium….

Welm, Have a very busy day....
MOH has 2 Dr.s appts due to a finger surgery.
Have to get MOH's pay check and Have to go to the bank and Credit Union.
Have to turn in bottles/cans for the 6.5 cents per {yes they pay 6.5 cents over the 5 cent deposit paid with a coupon on the back of the cash register receipt from the grocery store}- we have probably $40-$50 worth. It will give us "pocket spending money" for aobut 2 weeks.
Have to go get a B-day cake or something for MIL's B-day. Have to Visit MIL for her Birthday. She is now 86 Years Young.
HAve to go pay my Medicaid spenddown for next month.
Have to visit my father. Spenddown and father can wait til tomorrow if we spend a lot of time at MIL's}.
What else..I am forgetting some things I am sure.
Dishes are 1/2 done..had to stop for MOH's shower, and mine soon as MOH is done and hot water replaced.
I can throw in a load of laundry when home.
NOW, If MY BACK only holds out! Fingers and toes, legs and arms, ane eyes crossed!

Ken - hope your surgery goes well and turns out ok.
The rest of you with ongoing medical issues are seldom far from my thoughts even though I'm not in here much lately. Of course my prayers as well for those out west dealing with wildfires or the threat. I've been through the north of Colorado several times and always am in awe of the scenery. The aftermath of a fire is awful, but the land will regenerate and houses can be rebuilt. It's the toll in lives I shudder at.
No layout progress to report, I've been so tired at the end of the day that I usually just veg out for a bit and go to sleep. Haven't been to the museum for the same reason. No racing this weekend, but next week starts another 4 in a row plus we need to get ready to ship 4 cars in a container to OZ in Sept.. Catch y'all later, J.R.

OK, I'm wearing a Hawaiian shirt to work. I always tell people "You can't be unhappy in a Hawaiian shirt." Oddly, there seems to be some truth to that. I have one particularly bright one that I actually bought in Hawaii. It lights up the halls at work, and people smile.
A few months ago, I noticed someone going through my recyclables by the curb on garbage day, looking for deposits I might have tossed. Since then, I put all my deposits, carefully separated, out with the recyclables. If someone is willing to do that in the dead of winter to get a bit of extra cash, I'm going to reward him for his efforts. If the economy gets better and people don't need to scavange like that anymore, I'll bring them back in myself.
Today is the start of another heat wave here in the Northeast US. Looks like I'll be modeling through the weekend, along with watching the Tour de France on the tube. Ooops. It's not a tube anymore.
It takes an iron man to play with a toy iron horse.

Good morning. It's 79° and partly cloudy. The high will be 100°.Nothing special planned for today. I found paint that's tougher than that used on Bachmann locos. The type used on the Norscot Cat equipment. I soaked a dozer in alcohol for twelve hours just to see what it might do. Nothing. Didn't even faze it. Am I glad our models aren't painted with this stuff! Haven't decided yet what I'm going to do with the Bachmann 4-8-4. I have no use for it except to put on a spur or display track and leave it or use it as a paper weight. Need to do some cleanup on the layout today now that I'm finished playing around with the N Scale models.

Well, we got some rain and also WIND yesterday which ended the streak of 100+ days...
The rain did help the Fire Fighters yesterday but sadly we are see more of the destruction that has occurred.
In Colorado Springs the count of homes lost is somewhere between 200 and 300. Once it got into the city it was literately a house to house fight. Here is an aerial shot of some of the massive destruction...
The large fire up near Ft. Collins is now 75% contain and they are saying 257 homes have been lost there. It is listed today at 87,284 acres.
Sadly I am learning through Co-Workers that they have family / friends whose homes are among those lost in recent days

We had a "Mid-Winter Luau" at work a couple of winters back, and I - someone who rarely gets involved in office social activities - decided to go with it and wore a lightweight Hawaiin shirt to work on a day the temperature peaked at about -10F here in Minnesnowta. Of course, I was the only one wearing a Hawaiin shirt, everyone else had on sensible sweaters and heavy shirts. O well....
p.s. I always wanted to ask why thread was called the "Mourning Coffee" thread. Did the coffee die??

Rob- Gotta be funny to survive. If I take everything serious I’d go nuts have a heart attack and be gone. My release is to just put it out there. The stories are true although some a bit exaggerated (though not much) and sarcastic for entertainment I will admit. Some who don’t know me ask if we are getting a divorce. I laugh and say you misunderstand. Divorce is not in the plans at all. It’s way cheaper to keep her.
Terry- I’ve been to Ft Irwin. Great place if you’re a sand flea. Just don’t touch the….frogs IIRC. Or was it a lizard. No I think it was a frog. Been a while. They’ll pee and die. Lots of trouble if they catch you. They say the heats not that bad because it’s a dry heat. HA! Our oven is a dry heat and you don’t see me hanging out in there. Good luck to him in his career. Sounds like he enjoys it.
Gotta get a few more things straightened up round here for the In-cousins tomorrow. I w**k both nights and I usually stay for a bit after and watch some TV at the bar. We’ll see if I’m allowed to do that or not. Still kinda burns me the second busiest week we have, they decide to stay. Sure hope they don't decide to come up for Fall Festival. Now THAT one Brenda's busier than I don't know what. Wouldn't surprise me though. "Oh we'll be no trouble". Not the point.

Currently 76°F here in the Finger Lakes with a high in the mid 80's this afternoon. I hope to get the rest of the campsites done today and tomorrow. They will be using every site next week so I need to get done out there.
What a summer so far! Colorado is on fire and 27 states will see 100° weather today! It sounds much nicer for you guys "Down Under"........ Maybe I should take a vacation? Nah! I don't have any $$$ to do THAT.
This Saturday is the Camp Alumni Association Celebration of 75 years of Babcok-Hovey Boy Scout Camp so I will be spending all day out there.
Prayers will be said all day for Ken! I do hope they can get the foot healed and not have to remove a toe or anything else!!!
Prayers also for all of you facing danger and extreme heat today!

People have been going through our recycling bins here for years. I always put it down to people who are desperate for some small change so It never bothered me as long as they never made a mess doing it. In the last months there is a lady who goes up and down on garbage day going through it while texting on her iPhone and another guy who pulls up in his dodge challenger to go through the bins. So clearly even people who probably dont need that small amount of money in bottle returns are now doing it.

A bit windy here today but still a pleasant summer day.
I'm enjoying being on holidays and am thinking that retirement might not be so bad but then again, I think I'd rather have the cash flow so back to work I go on Tuesday.
I did get to run trains a little last night which was nice. It is CPR time on the Mortimer sub and likely will be for most of the summer. I only have 3 CP locos, all diesel but do enjoy running them from time to time as they are nice ones. I tend to run engines in a kind of informal rotation. It is CP summer but then I'll move on to CN passenger for a while, then freight, and so on.
Have to finish a little housework as my wife is coming back to the house with a couple of her co-workers for lunch and so everything has to be ship shape.

Anyone know what FIMA is? It seems I may have some benefit's coming from them? I was told by Dave to call them when I told him yesterday I will be missing work for awhile. Only thing I know for sure now that I have started a claim with them is I will not be fired for the missing work.
I was sure not looking forward to working the next 5 days with 100 + degree weather but this was sure not what I had in mind!

Ken- I think you mean FLMA- Family Leave and Medical Act. I am no expert but it is designed so if a worker or a family member of a worker has a significant medical issue that will require the worker to be out for a prolonged period of time or at different intervals of time to allow the worker to keep his job. There is a max time limit that can be used (don't know it) and your MD has to agree that it is necessary in writing. Your HR office should be able to help you with it. Of course it is unpaid.

It has not been a good day for the Webb family. Seems my eldest son spent the previous night in jail and it took until 4 PM today to bond out. So tomorrow him and I have numerous phone calls and errands to run

Hawaiian Shirts...since going to Hawaii in 2005 and coming back with Hawaiian shirts and stuff, and having bought a straw type hat with braod brim in Macy's Honolulu, I have been wearing Hawaiian shirts and broad brim straw hats from the earliest breeze fo spring trhough to the chilliest days of fall setting in. ALL the people we routinely see for business..bank. dentist,etc all wait patiently through winter for me to appear in Hawaiian shirts and broad brim straw hats. {The hat bTW, keeps the sun off my head and shoulders..I have had large skin cancers removed from my forehead and so I avoid sun exposure if I can now}
How Did I influence someone ? Well, the little 4 y/o boy across the street flipped me the bird, gave me the finger, {etc.what ever you like to call it}. So he got called on it by my other neighbor to whom I said "I sure hopre your 6 y/o doesn't develop the nasty habit the boy across the street has"..so she called the 4 y/o on it and made him apologize. SO I told him it wasn't nice to do what he he did and I hoped he wouldn't do it again to anybody and that is was nice of him to apologize, and that I accepted his apology. I did note, however, when his own mother caught on to the discipline my neighbor was giving him, did NOT say anything to either him or me. She was silent on the subject. Interesting. SO hopefully in a polite way, he learned NOT to do it agian. Oh, yeah, when my neighbor asked him if he did it, he said he did.so he owned up to it instead of lying about it. I am Post-positive he will givce someone else the finger before the year is out {maybe even the month}, and i wouldn't be suprised if his own mother thought it was funny.
Returnable bottles in the recycle bin: I have been on both sides of this story. I have been the scavenger, and I have placed bottles next to the bin and they disappear. I say NEXT TO The bins, because the counties around here would collect them from the bins and turn them in for cash money of course. THe couties passed laws stating that once something was placed in a bin, it was illegal to remove it by any other than the recycle collectors!! So, the nice people would line them up along side the road OUT of the bins!
WElm, we got our outside errands done. My back is killing me though. I think in 2 weeks I go for more injections before vacation! {If MOH gets it off as requested}. I did NOt get the dishes done so there is now 2 days worth piled up. I did not get to laundry either. TOmorrow is another day for boht.
Dinner was meatloaf, green beans smashed taters with mushroom gravy. Yum Yum!

Gave my nephew and and one of his friends some help on putting an ATV back together today then went to my parents place for dinner. Had a pork chop with mixed veggies. My fathers idea of adjusting his diet to fit his new diabetic lifestyle. Had watermelon afterward. Went through my mail and tossed out the obvious junk. Looked through the bills just as a matter of course. They're all paid automatically so I don't have to mess with them anyway. Got an acceptance packet from the American Legion, most of which went to the shredder. My dates of service fall outside those accepted so I couldn't join even if I wanted to. I kept the window stickers and address labels though. No sense throwing them out when I can use them for their intended purpose.

Aaaahhhhh! Long day. I spent all afternoon finishing the campsites on the South Side of camp and getting a good start on one of the two remaining tent sites on the North side. They will go a lot quicker and I should finish them easily tomorrow. Saturday I am supposed to out there for the Alumni meeting and 75th. celebration of the camp. Looks Like I will be spending most of the morning doing the 3 Leanto sites. They are much easier as they are mostly shaded so I figure and hour and a half tops. May even get one of them done tomorrow. Sunday I am playing with the trains on the layout!!!
Was not only hot today out at camp, the humidity was really oppressive as well. Drained a few bottles of water out there and sat in shade every chance I got. I have also run into several old Scouting friends I haven't seen in a few years so I have been having fun.
Think I will call it a night. Prayers for all in need.... Thinking especially about Barry and Ken!
Time for me to call it a night. I've taken my night meds and the nightly insulin shot is next. I was quite busy today and I ache in a few places I haven't ached in for a while. I'm watching a Chuck Norris movie tonight. Something called 'Forced Vengeance'. What the heck, it has a three and a half star rating. Maybe I'll stay awake long enough to see Chuck hand somebody their butt after he kicks it off. Only loco run today was the Bachmann Niagara. The Norscot bulldozer is still submerged in alcohol. Not so much as a loose flake of paint. It's been over twenty-four hours. See y'all tomorrow.
