Quoting Ulrich ... "Garry - I´d be my pleasure to w*rk out a rewarding itinerary for you. Certainly a must-see is the Rhaetian Railway Albula and Bernina lines, combined with a trip on the famous Glacier Express down to Zermatt. A stopover at either Realp or Oberwald would yield a trip over the Furka Mountain line - a line reopened some years ago. It was closed when the tunnel connecting these two towns was finished in 1982, making the trip over the Furka Pass redundant. A bunch of really crazy people worked for years to reopen this spectacular line. They even went to Vietnam to buy back the original steam locos, which were sold to Vietnam in 1947, following electrification of the line " .... Ulrich ... Looks like a great idea. We have airline points , and so at least the flights would be covered. I'll have to look into the idea quickly if we do it this year. Calendar is filling up. Second half of july looks clear now. ... It would be nice to do both Switzerland and Germany. Would like to see the huge model railroad in Hamburg. Where is the German RR museum again?

Ken ... Well I'm glad Larry is out of your location anyhow. However, I suppose we will not sing "Ding Dong The Witch is Dead".

Chad ... I like the IH tractors.

On the layout, I worked on the wiring some today.

Also, one of my Rapido Trains passenger cars had a broken reed switch for the lighting. I had emailed Rapido I needed a replacemnt. They sent a new circuit for no charge. Second time Rapido solved a problem for me for no charge. Good company. Today, I installed the new circuit, and the lights work fine again.

Good to see so many people in the diner today.

Good morning all

Work did another slip-up this week. I had to wait until 8:30 last night to get my schedule for this week, then they changed somethime after that. I was supposed to work 6-2, but didn't find out about the change until I got there...

Dunno what I'm gonna do today since I have it off. I could add the firecracker antennae I got yesterday to  some of my locos that need it, but the beacons will wait until I get some SMDs or mini-bulbs for lighting them. The tricky part about the beacons is that they are above the numberboards on most of the hood units.

Jeff, You commented on that picture you posted last night as being the frankenstien F-units. What's so frankenstien about those ones? They look normal from here.

Galaxy, Lucky for me I don't have to buy flowers.Laugh

Vincent

Wants: 1. high-quality, sound equipped, SD40-2s, C636s, C30-7s, and F-units in BN. As for ones that don't cost an arm and a leg, that's out of the question....

2. An end to the limited-production and other crap that makes models harder to get and more expensive.

That just shows I did the work on them well. While the bodies look normal the drives in each are a mixed bag made up of new and junk box parts. Athearn motor and Proto trucks in a Stewart frame as an example. There's a Varney metal body shell, Mashima motor, mixed and matched shafts and a Proto 1000 frame thrown in the mix as well.

Good morning, Chloe.  A large coffee while sit in this corner booth, please.  Let's see who shows up.

We got a couple of fence post in this weekend.  We have a month or two before the ground gets too hard.  We will pick up a couple calves this fall if we get the leaning fence posts replaced.  The ice storm finished some posts that were starting to fail.

Ken,  I am enjoying your layout photos.

Good morning. It's 69° and mostly cloudy with patchy fog. The high will be 88°, partly cloudy with a 20% chance of showers and thunderstorms in the afternoon.

Nothing on the schedule today. I was thinking about doing a little layout work but putting my weight on my knee just once nixed that idea. The idea of just sitting back and watching some movies on the idiot box is looking rather appealing.

Morning (or whatever), Zoe - I'll have a glass of Ed's OJ please, and the #2 special, scrambled, with wheat toast, blackberry jam, and a Santa Fe mug of coffee. Thanks!

Hmm, 'non-meteorites,' IH getting into the lawn tractor biz (guess they want some of the 'Deere' action), and hailing hams...Huh?  Been a strange few days lately, eh? May everyone be doing better than previously (especially Jeff's knee/foot/leg). AngelAngel

Chad, neat photos of those 'home tractors' (yeah, you'll need a rag to wipe the drool off of 'em...). Smile, Wink & Grin

Do take care of yourself, Jeffrey! Think about staying in today, since your weather may not be that great today (see below), from what the morning weatherguessers were showing. Man, those ditch lights were bright on your photo this a.m. (Almost had to get out my  Cool...)

Gonna be a warm one in this river city today - supposed to reach 80 or so (F) today, and slight (what percentage is that?) chance of severe thunderstorms in the afternoon evening. But they're not talking (yet) about ham-hail...

Ken, I bet the company figured it was cheaper to 'promote' Larry elsewhere (likely and put him where he didn't have customer contact?) than to fire him. Seems companies now are scared to fire somebody who's dishonest or incompetent. Oops, there comes the SoapBox - better quit talking about all that, eh?

Garry - what was your wife's response about your two-phone comment? Smile, Wink & Grin

Darren - it's Munday? Ohmygosh! Surprise... Nice weathering job on that hopper, by the way. WhistlingWink

As somebody posted over the weekend (I think...) it has been a while since JR stopped by. Hope he gets time to fill us in on how things have been going.

Well (fairly dry in there lately...), I'll be at the window booth, talking with Sue about the finer points of fence posts, and sketching some ideas for my diorama. See who else comes by.

[Edit]: And it looks like I have the breakfast tab - Zoe, here's the card, and go ahead and set up the buffet for these chowhounds! Dinner

 Morning Folks

 Flo, Coffee Please.

Jim If they moved Larry because I could prove he was stealing from me, it will because they want to keep him. Like most company's, all they really care about is profit.

Sue, Thank you for the kind words about my pictures. Compared to your layout, mine is very modest.

Feeling Ick! to my stomach. Getting ready to make my house payment. I am going to be dipping in to my savings to live on.

 Later, Ken

Afternoon in the Diner
Posted by galaxy on Monday, April 30, 2012 12:28 PM

Good afternoon,

I will have the salisbury steak, smashed taters and green beans.

Gee, I had a lot to say before bu the site wouldn't let me in. Now I can't think of a  thing to say.

It has turned out to be a nice day here, sunny, warm { into the 60's which is better than the 40's!}.

Ulrich- I do hope you feel better! Here we have a thing called fibromyalgia, that is often a catch-all to describe unbelievable pain, or pain all over the body, or in the joints a, as well as other symptoms. here is the esteemed Mayo Clinic's take to it: http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/fibromyalgia/DS00079

Maybe that can explain your symptoms?

Jeffrey, I do hope YOU are feeling better in the knee department too!

MOH got the training to work the coffee shop. So now maybe can get hours there too. We sorely need the money. $100 or less paychecks aren't quite cutting it!

I was gonna mention a few other things, but I have "aging Disease"..it attacks brain cells and causes lack of memory.

Water seems to be back on as we were without while TOwn put new well/pumps to work this AM.

WEll, my show is on in aobut a 1/2 hour, so I;d better change mediums.

Later.Have aGreat Afternoon!

Afternoon folks!

Chloe, can I get a cup of hot chocolate to tide me over to dinner?  Thank you, Ma'am.

Just walked in the door from the last MLK Scholarship interview.  He was not able to be at the ones we did last Friday as he was out of town.  This kid is fantastic!  Just waiting for his Eagle Board of Review, if that tells you anything.  Definitely has it all together, has done a huge amount of community service,  balances work, community service and is a honor role student.  Very, very personable and easy to talk with.  He walked in the room right after I got there and before the two ladies who were also there for the interview arrived.  I gave him the Scout Handshake and he lit up like a 1000w lightbulb and gave me a huge grin!  After the interview, both of the ladies, just looked at me and said, "Oh yeah!"  I just got off the phone with the Rev. who is the President of the committee and he will call and let the kid know after 9PM.  It would be earlier but the kid has work and then Scouts before he goes home to start his homework......

Galaxy, it sounds like you might have, "Old Timers disease...."  Is that the one you are trying to think of?

I have to drive to Canandaigua to deliver a folder of Summer Art Class forms I printed for my sister, and then stop and get groceries on the way home.  Then I have to continue to clean the house and get ready for the Troop visit tomorrow evening.  I can't believe how filthy everything is!  I mean, I cleaned it just last December before Christmas......  I hope to have it all done by 6PM tomorrow so I can have a half hour to get ready for them to arrive. Smile, Wink & GrinLaugh

Later!

Good Evening...

We got rained on 5 times today...did I get much done?!?!?!?

NOOOOOOOO!!!!!

I'm not a happy camper..because the way the weather looks I might be doing the in and out thing through the week..which will mean that train time can be somewhat muted....

So...anyhow, I'm off for the rest of the day to do some other stuff...in the basement...

Hi Chloe, I'll have that Salisbury steak special that Galaxy is chowing down on, please - looks good! Yeah Thank you.

Galaxy good to hear about your OH's additional hours - did you say she'll be helping out the twins and Vinnie in here? Oh, sorry, wrong coffee shop - guess I maybe dozed off a little bit, eh? Smile, Wink & Grin But I never have met anyone who couldn't find a use for a wee bit of additional incoming cash. (Oh, yeah! Big Smile) Hey, did you find a water heater that would fit your trailer? I know you mentioned that you had to stop sooner than you'd've liked at the one place.

Ray, I recall you mentioning that young man when you were talking about this batch of MLK scholarship candidates. As you said, no sense in tripping up his study habits tonight. Wink I know what you mean about the cleaning up - it never seems to stop, does it? (Boy,, I sure wish the dust and mess(TM) would at least take a vacation for a week or two...)  Hey, it's your fault, Ray - I just ordered a six-pack (no, not beer..) - of those Tichy 40' flatcars you were building a while back (or maybe it's that you are about to build them, what was it?Huh? Now, I wonder if I can find where you posted about how to make the deck look like weathered wood...

A butterfly? WHERE?...

Uuummmmm...how about...is it possible to have Amnesia and Deja Vu at the same time?

Barry, you don't, but that's okay, it'll be back in a little bit....Whistling

We got a bit of a downpour earlier this afternoon, but I doubt that it would fill anybody's Well very far. Then the sun came back out to raise the humidity a bit more (seemed like it, anyway)....

I need to go by Hobby Lobby and get some of those little disposable brushes, for something to apply epoxy (for gluing the walls of some of my resin structure kits together). Hope to do that on the way home from the Diner.

I'll be...uh, somewhere... (how about the window booth, Chloe?) getting ready to chow down on dinner Music "Dinner in the Diner,Dinner in the Diner, Music Nuttin' could be finer..." Music Whistling

Time to stop my mouth with food, eh?...

Blessings,

Howdy .... I'll have an RBF with a chile dog, please.

Jeff ... Perhaps the F-units could also be called  "Mix and Match" ... mostly mix.

JimCG ... My humor is not always appreciated by by better half. Oh well. We have fun razzing each other. Sometimes we get carried away with it, and if others overhear us, they may think there is a problem. Sometimes voices carry across the lake and later we get some interesting comments.

Ken ... That last photo looked good. Looks like a branch line track connecting with a main line.

I did a little more wiring, and now have more of the layout changed over to DCC. Still have plenty of locomotives to install decoders.

Evenin Folks!

Janie, I'm just taking a break from cleaning the house...  I think I need a Mexican Sundae and a cup of decaf for the moment.  You know i wonder why they don't have Mexican Sundaes on the dessert menu at that Mexican restaurant my sister insists on going to....  Oh it isn't really?  Hmm, learn something every day!

If you remember last week I mentioned the little mousie wousie I caught in my kitchen last week.  Today I just got back from shopping at the grocery store and putting them away and sat down here at the computer.  Manét came around the corner very proud of himself.  He brought it over to show daddy.....  Yep, a half grown little mousie.  He dropped it on the rug for me to see, and I managed to grab it by the tail without Manét grabing it from me.  The mouse was dead by the time he brought it to me.  I praised him and got him a kittie treat to replace the tasty little morsel he caught.  Other Victor trap is set under a box in the kitchen to see if there are any more around......

I cleaned up a bit in the train rooms and moved a couple trains over to the new trackage to store while the Scouts are there tomorrow night.  All was fine until I fired up the coal drag.  I somehow in bumping things had the loco and tender derailed.  Got them back on the track and found two of the coal cars were also derailed.  The train derailed several more times while I was trying to move it over to the other yard from the top of the mountain (Bare Mountain)....  In one spot I can see there is a track problem on a bridge.  Will not need that for tomorrow, but the other place is one I can't get to without bringing in the topside creeper.  I will run the passenger train tonight before I shut down or first thing tomorrow..

Still have to clean the kitchen and bathroom.  I am on schedule except I didn't get to the aquarium today.  I'll see how time goes tomorrow.

Jim, hope you like the Tichy flat cars as much as I do!  I bought a second 6 pack.  One group will be loaded and set at the quarry.  the other group will be unloaded and dropped off at the quarry when the first group gets picked up....  Yep the old, "Loads out - Empties in" routine.

Galaxy, you say it's Dejavue all over again?

Guess I'll see if I can get a bit more done before bed...
