Thanks for all the kind words about the layout pictures! The two reasons I have stopped taking new ones (I have posted these sometime ago) are the following.
1 Current version of XP I am running does not have Silver Light (think that is the name of the program) so I cannot use the photo program I was using.
2 Still don't know if I get to keep the house. With work going the way it is (lack of money) and dealing with Bank Of Stupid your guess is good as mine.
Main thing is not being able to use my old photo program. One of the things that fired me up to work on the layout was posting pictures in WPF.. Not have any close train friends (Simon 1966 lives close by, but he is busy running a company and raising a family and does not have much time to stop by but has never let me down if I need help!) it is hard to get motivated to work on the layout.
One of pictures is a Rio Grand SD 7. Far as I have been told a SD 7 and SD 9 look the same on the out side.
Here is a shoot from the mine.
Jeffery now has the Monon BL 2 that is in the shoot. I am 99.99999999% sure it has been patched.

My city fathers have gone over the edge: 2 new city ordinances are in the works; dandelion ordnance and a no trespassing sign ordnance. I’m not sure how the ordnance will read on the dandelions but my neighbors and I have been joking that you will be required to have a permit if you own over 50 dandelions… If you want to post a no trespassing sign you have to have a permit, the permit will cost $50 for 12 months after you buy the cities No Trespassing sign. Tomorrow is payday and I’m considering buying every sign except No Trespassing and put it in my front yard….

Good morning from the People's Republic of Massachusetts. It's cloudy, I had a few sprinkles of rain on my windshield on the way in, and the temperature is supposed to get a bit warmer (50s) before getting down close to freezing tonight. We've had very little rain lately, and with no appreciable snowpack from last winter, we're going to be running dry. I want to get some seed down, too, but I won't do that until I see a few wet days in the forecast.

Our neighboring town, Concord, MA, famed for rising up against British tyranny, has just voted to ban the sale of bottled water in small containers. So, oddly enough, you'll be able to buy a Coke in a can or bottle, but not water. Having bicycled through that town for decades, I've never noticed a problem with "bottled water litter" so it seems like a rather silly regulation. Not as silly, though, as the proposal now before the town to require leashes on cats. (The town does not have a leash law for dogs.) Someone is upset that cats bother the birds. I'm guessing that she'll be more annoyed by the mouse problem, or the feral cats who will take over the territory once the law-abiding felines are locked up.

There silly laws everywhere, and it is getting worse by the day. Some are old silly laws, and others are new silly laws. We are quickly becoming a police-state in the USA!
In the County seat of my county it was an old law that finally got turned over. Here it is: on Front Street and Main Street where the big historical Victorian mansions were built and wealthy people lived, it was a law that said garbage trucks must back up each and every driveway to the back of the house where the garbage cans were to empty the garbage cans- SO NO garbage cans were ever seen on the curbside to ruin the "picturesque look" of main and Front streets!! With the advent of recycling and the cost of fuel, the garbage company got it overturned and now curbside is now allowed and required. But it can only go out to curbside after a certain hour the night before collection,and be removed form the curbs by a certain hour day of collection, I do believe.
It ALSO is illegal to carry a lunch bag,pail or basket down Front or Main streets! Thats is so the Wealthy didn't have to look at the commoners carrying their lunch to work!! An old law.
Many neighborhood control groups are forcing compliance for a certain "look or Feel" to a neighborhood. While MOH and I are not currently in the market for a house anymore, We vowed we would NOT buy in a "neighborhood control" area. Some of them have gone berserk! We have also seen TV home-shopping shows where neighborhood control groups stated that "no SUV or Truck {pickup} will be parked in the driveway"! That show they got a variance for the buyer who had an SUV he wasn't going to give up just in buying the house! {Oh...and they couldn't have a gas bar-b-que grill outside either! They got that waived too!}.
On the online news...someone got called on the carpet for planting certain flowers in the flower bed in front of the home because they weren't approved flowers types!!! {at least they were trying to make it look pretty for curb appeal!} Lets get real! That must be what your dandelion law will be...they are unapproved flowers!!! Someone else in the news, got cited for NOT having any "approved flowers" and only easy-to-care-for shrubbery in the yard!
Another news item was that someone refused to use a certain chemical lawn treatment company to treat their lawn {at their expense of course}. They got notified to correct the situation.
The old phrase, "There Ought TO Be A Law" is what is taking over and people want others to bow down to their ideas of "conformity perfection".
THAT , and the towns/cities/counties/states NEED revenue to run..so add on fees, or pass new laws and fees to raise the money! So why NOT charge a fee for a 12 month 'No Trespassing' sign?
I paid a fee for my handicapped license plates and for the hangy thingy for the window of any vehicle I am in when not in my vehicle with the plates on it. Handicapped people should get for free!
Russia got rid of their "police state" and USA is turning into one!!!
See if you can get a law of your own passed...a law to "prohibit silly laws in our community"!!!!

I finished up one of the three basement windows last evening with Jam and casing. This was not an easy fix as that is the side of the house that was Mud Jacked and things just arn't as true as they were. It also goes up into a recess or bump up into the suspended ceiling which didn't help either. But all in all, it looks very good. Two more to go, but they should go in in half the time.
We up here on the Canadian Prairies are having a great amount of southeast wind. Today it will be 35kph gusting to 70 kph. It is now drizzling with more raining in the forecast and a high today of mid thirties. Ducks might like it, but I doubt it..................
I have also been doing some RIP track work, then built a couple of flat cars, weathered their decks and weighted them with BBs and CA in the frame work webbing underneath. Made sure you can't see them from eye level.
I have to go and pick up my second Son this morning after he drops off his one ton at a diesel repair shop. Betcha that is going to hurt the wallet. Then we will probably go for a little breakfast. Then who knows for the rest of the day.

Vincent, I too believe Sheppard and Lab. I had one for fourteen years and she was almost humane. She knew every word that you said and when speaking to her she looked right in your eyes to understand you better. She and I rode snowmobiles together, with her but between my legs and her feet on the dash. We had a circular red scarf that pulled over her head to keep her ears warm. She was my constant companion whether canoeing, boating, fishing, building or trucking. Her name was Daisey and although it has been over 25 years, I still miss her dearly.
Sure would like a report from Garry, in how the season is going.

I am feeling a little better today. I even ventured outside and could stay for 10 minutes before returning into the safety of our home. That´s progress! I do sleep a lot during the day, as I fee easily exhausted. I am so sorry for Petra, as she has to bear all the burden these days. I hope to continue on the path of improvement.

Just killing time today until I go in to w**k at 4 PM. Today is the shift I am working for my friend. High today 88 F, Dry and HOT. I just looked at the UPS website and it says the TT is on the truck out for delivery. Usually deliveries are between 9-10 AM. Tomorrow I have the club open house all day then back to w**k Sunday for my regular shifts. Based on this I may get the opening in the plywood cut today but the installation will be next week.
Packer- The FP-7 and RS-3 were in their lay down yard. They used to use the RS-3 as the primary motive power for excursions but can't get parts for it. They never said anything about the FP-7.

Just got back from dropping Delilah off to get spayed. even though she hadn't eaten or drank anything for 8 hours, she still managed to get car sick... I have to go to work in a few hours, so I have a little time to kill.
Galaxy, gotta love blue laws. Florida has a few, but some are next to impossible to enforce.
Curt, Oh man, they have an NW5? I've always wanted to make a model of one of those. It's bbasically a switcher on a GP frame, with a short hood for a steam generator. BN had 10 they inherited from the GN.

It is the one year anniversary of the devastating Tuscaloosa tornados, My sister in AL knows someone who lost two of their college kids among the about 200 killed in the storm.
Regarding stupid laws, I'm glad to be away from the cities where stupid laws are enacted. Police are busy enough real problems, and they should not be expected to count dandilions.
Ken and Vincent ,,,, These photos have an SD7 (317) and an SD9 (358) side by side. The difference is 2 ladders on the front of an SD7 and 1 ladder on the front of an SD9. Rear ends are the same. (Except railroads who operated long end forward).

Man, did we get a quick but very drowning down pour last night along with some strong winds. Had water coming into the house from the bathroom vent . WIll need to see if the wind did any damage or if the water has just being pushed so hard in got up and under the vent cover.
Hear this morning that Lamar, CO got hit with three (3) tornado's including one that made a direct hit on their power-plant. "Colorado Emergency Management has issued a statement asking people in the Lamar area to use caution due to downed power lines. They are reporting power is out in Lamar, Eads, Chivington and Sheridan Lake and surrounding areas. The statement calls damage to homes "considerable" and says power may be out for four hours or possibly longer." My thoughts out to those hurt by this storm. Lamar is about 100 miles east of Pueblo and about 30 miles west of the Kansas state-line.

Good morning. It's 71° and cloudy. The high will be 85° and it'll be partly cloudy.From outward appearances it appears I have today to myself as my father is home and can tend to my mother's needs. However there's no telling what he might cook up for me to do. Nothing I hope. I woke up in pain this morning and it'll likely remain with me all day. This constant running back and forth isn't doing me much good. I may be able to do some layout work today. One of the projects involves giving one of the scenes on the layout the ax so I can build something else there. That scene is the Shell Service Center. Not sure what I'll do with the building as it's a bit large. I may just scrap it altogether. I The scene is nice but does nothing and takes up a lot of space that could be used for other smaller scenes.

I grow a good crop of them here in my yard.... they are what keeps my yard nice and green in late August! Besides, they are edible. Seems like we have a lot of nut cases on both ends of the spectrum. I'll leave it there.
Currently 36°F outside the door with little white things falling out of the sky from time to time. Didn't want to mow lawn today anyway. Saying we get get a freeze again tonight. This afternoon I will be with the group interviewing candidates for the MLK Scholarships. May get a few minutes to get some things done on the layout before I leave to go to the meeting.
Have to start cleaning up the layout and my house before the Troop comes on Tuesday. have lots to get done, so I best get to doing it.

Afternoon All,
It came in. It is going to be awesome. I did the measuring and cut out the pit area. I test fit the pit without issue and screwed down the table top to the framing. That will be it until next Wednesday. When I was using the paper template I decided to move the TT towards the back about 3 inches. I'm glad I decided to wait to cut out the pit area.
Garry- I like the loco lineup and your WPF pic.
Ken- Another great pic.
Jeff- Nice pic. Is that the station you are thinking about removing?

I got a workout at work. I put away about 120-some odd boxes (most were 40 pounds, I could go 2-3 at a time) singlehandedly.
I might have found a buyer for some of my P2K NKP locos (GP30s, GP18s, and an athearn GP7). I'm trying to swap them out for other types of locos (F-units, GP7s without dynamics, GP9s, or GP18s with dynamics) to turn into BN locos. THe GP18s I could convert into phase 3 GP9s, but the fans would be the expensive part. I have plenty of GP30s, If I can't find a buyer or trader in a few weeks, the NKP locos will probably be stripped, redetailed and repainted into BN. (sorry Bill)
Garry, Nice locos. The second picture shows the difference in class lights I was looking at to distinguish SD7s from SD9s. I forgot which way it was, but it looks like the SD7s are closer to the center of the hood. It's funny you mentioned long hood foward, GN's SD7s and SD9s were long hood foward. My 2 SD9s are ex-Q units, so they go short hood foward.
Ken, What do you mean by "the only blue box engines ... that lived after being converted to DCC"? Did you get rid of them or store them? I've been trying to find an athearn BB F7 ABBA set for a while for a detailing project (using a friend's stewart shells)
Curt, If you could get more pictures of that unit, that'd help me quite a bit for when I actually build one.

Well,
I went and did some errands and went to my dad's. He is fine. He had a gas tankless water heater installed some time ago, but still finds it does not meet the immediate need for hot water when the shower is turned on,and cools down after he turns water off to soap up. SO he bought a recirculator pump that is supposed to recirculate the water back to the water heater til it meets temperature requirements so water is not wasted down the drain. Seems his $200 model from Home Despot doesn't work, SO the plumber said "darn cheap things, I'll go get another one that is $300, but it will work". SO he goes and brings the new $300 modle the next day. It is exactly identical in every way to the cheap one except for its color. But, It, too, fails! SO now he will come back again with his assistant and neither one have any idea why it is not working. It SHOULD work with a tankless, but doesn't appear to be. ANyone have any ideas? The plumber is to be back again to solve the riddle if he can? I think the tankless heater is probably not kicking on when it recircs the water, but what do I know?
Then I stopped for gas. Had $0.70 off a gallon with my grocery store loyalty card. BUT...the company is changing its offerings on that...it will not be $0.10 per $50 you spend, it will be $0.10 per $100 you spend!!! They are supposed to be bringing in cheap priced good quality goods so that for your $100 you get more food..sure, I believe that...in a pigs eye!! They did bring in a series of cheaper-than-store label brand of certain things, but the quality is not as good. SO I may now shop around for the best prices and nto worry about the gas thing. It was worth a few extra bucks to save off the gas, but now, may not be worth it. It really needs $0.30 off to get a deal as the Sunoco stations here are generally $0.10 higher per gallon anyway than the discounters of gas. so then you have to spend a few pennies to get there to the partner station, and that uses another $0.10. But it sure is nice to fill up with 17.5 gallons and pnly pay $3.19 per gallon!
FOund out teh Kia's low gas light comes on about 3 gallons left, plus whatever reserve is not registered by the guage. Never let gas go that low before. I thought, now watch, the light won't go out when the tank is full! Knowing my luck with the KIA. But it went out.
We'd buy a new car if we could . thinking about the gasoline Chevy Cruize that gets 40 MPG. Wish they made it in a wagon! Our minivans only get aobut 20 MPG. I bet Jeffrey would love a 20 MPG vehicle about now though...
WEll, dinner is serve yourself what you can find as MOH is sleeping now. So I won't cook for just me.
