Jeff- I really like that tall wooden building behind the loco.

Funny thing is that building is as flat as two day old beer. All the buildings behind the loco are a piece that I cut out of a Detail Associates farm town background and stuck to the backdrop with small loops of masking tape. The farm town scene is a little under $10 at Walthers.

Jeff, after your initial glitch, did your Friday the 13th prove uneventful for the rest of it (better than your day before and the tractor)? Neat idea with your problematic turnout, though I'll miss your enginehouse.

No problems with the 13th.

Afternoon, Janie - I'll have a RBF (Mais bien sûr!), s'il vous plait. Merci, Madame!

Barry - Mais bien sûr (the cat video...) ROTFL! Don't know where you got that one, but it nailed cats for sure. Good to hear about your friend being able to go home. Thumbs Up Loved your 'musical bar(re?) story'... Whistling You are on a roll (not necessarily a piano one, either) there! Laugh

Jeff, after your initial glitch, did your Friday the 13th prove uneventful for the rest of it (better than your day before and the tractor)? Neat idea with your problematic turnout, though I'll miss your enginehouse. Does sound like your mother is starting to heal, from her response to going home without the level of care she will need. Hope she continues to heal up.

NSJoe - judging by that receipt you posted, I'd say CONGRATULATIONS!! BowBow Takes a bit of the pressure off the rest of your school year, doesn't it?

Garry, that wood've been a likely trip to the hospital for you if the branch had been a few more inches the other way. Glad you dodged that one! [whew!] Steam generator car looks nifty, also. Yeah

Rob, better take care of (ice, splint, doctor visit or whatever) your toe. And watch out for any red streaks, as was said.

OzJim - that prospective expansion of your layout mainline sounds very promising! Thumbs Up (Go for it, dude!)Wink Hope they put out that scrap fire quickly - I can only imagine having THAT smell stuck in my nose for even an hour, let alone longer than that!

Todd, I think that of the various ways suggested for Galaxy to check his speedometer, yours was the most... interesting. Smile, Wink & Grin Good to hear that your local gendarme is so willing to help you out (well, after his Facebook post was done...). Whistling

Ray, sounds like everybody pretty well had a great time at your show. Bow (Lots of effort put into preparing usually does that...) Smile, Wink & Grin

Galaxy, hope you get the car window adjustment figured (and done). YeahGrumpy And hope you get a break from the weather in your area.

Speaking of rain (Ken and Todd), I went to St. Louis yesterday to see the Mac store where I'd bought my MacBook Pro (and about the time I started driving back, the deluge began..!). The store had a different door chime when you came in - sounded just like a startup chime on a Mac. Smile (Though, having w**ked in computer stores before, I'm sure during their busier times, the staff may get weary of that...). Nice place, had the (1990's?) wooden paneling with the rails set into the wall for displaying lighter-weight stuff, and a bunch of Macs (not as many as an Apple store, but this place probably had a smaller budget than Apple does, y'know...) Pretty good neighborhood bar & grill across the street, where I settled for the 5 oz. burger and house fries, while catching the St. Louis Cardinals game (rain-delayed at the time, so it was more of the Angels and Yankees game). I was pretty stuffed after eating that burger and fries. Zzz Then, I had to stay awake and figure out my return to I-40 and then I knew how to get the rest of the way home. It's been a while since I drove in the St. Louis area...Surprise Somewhere along the route TO the store, I drove over what looked like small RR yard under the overpass - about a half dozen tracks wide or so. Smile Made it up there and back on about a half a tank of gas, which was good for my car.

Sorry to hear about the storms to the west of Missouri (and northwest and southwest from us) yesterday. Prayers for all those affected (and hope that Chris in Iowa missed the storms in his area!). Some seriously nasty weather, and at some of the worst times to come through those areas, as well.

Yesterday after I got back, I started epoxying the walls together for my Magnuson post office/print shop kit. Had primed the four walls earlier. Today, I hit the walls with another light coat (to get the back of the false front that will show above the hip roof), and sprayed the back of another front wall for a similar reason. Little more done on some structures, at least.

Garry, nice photo, and nice job on the marker lights, too! Thumbs Up Best wishes on your tax returns. (Now you have me wondering how bad next year's tax changes will be...)Sigh

I'll be at the RC for now - debating if I want a Barry-sized burger (maybe not - still feeling a bit full from the burgerfest yesterday in St. Louis), or something a bit smaller. Hmm....

Blessings and prayers for those affected by the storms, and for those in need of healing and comfort (of various body parts, like Jeff, Rob, Johnboy and others), as well as for those needing a good night's rest.

Blessings,

Jim in Cape G.

Evening All,

At home so I can relax. This week is supposed to be in the mid 80's with possibly rain on Thursday. I think I have talked MOH into not only a trip to the PRR museum next spring but also a trip to Steamtown in ScrantonBig Smile. Of course I will have to reciprocate by going to outlet malls, etc.Crying. Oh well, it is in the name of trains.

The last gondola I ordered came in Saturday, so Wednesday I will fit the load and weather it.

Jeff- I really like that tall wooden building behind the loco.

Ken- I'm really liking your car photos.

Ray- I'm glad your meet went well.

Tom- The only wine I can stand to drink is Riesling. I guess I'm not very sophisticated, I would rather have a dark beer.

Hope everyone has a good night and prayers for those in need.

Heartland Division CB&Q

It's the 100th Anniversary of the Titanic sinking. Hard to imagine what the passengers were thinking as the big ship sank.

So much for unsinkable. I'm suing the travel agency! Oh man, I'm gonna get my new shoes wet! I hope I can return this suit after it's been in salt water. Did I leave the iron on?

Howdy ....... Good to see everybody!

It's the 100th Anniversary of the Titanic sinking. Hard to imagine what the passengers were thinking as the big ship sank.

I'm still busy with the tax preparing stuff. It helps to have the deadline delayed until the 17th.

Not much new on the layout.

Happy Model Railroading.

Got the parents yard cut. Had only one problem and it was very minor. At one point I had to stop the blades before crossing over a gravel driveway. When I got to the other side I went to re-engage the blades and all I got was smoke from the belt. Something was keeping the blades from turning. Turned out to be a pine cone wedged between the chute opening and the end of a blade. Removed it and all was fine again.

We spent two hours railfanning the Norfolk Southern main line today. Sort of overcast most of the time, but with the temperatures in the low 70's it was the first time this season we were able to sit outside the car with the lawn chairs. Not too busy today, just three intermodal, a mixed freight and the Sunday trash train heading for Ohio.

Now I think I'll take a little nap and get ready for dinner. Tonights menu is a roast, mashed potatos and gravy, peas and dinner rolls. Of course, there will be a bottle of wine from Seneca Lake. Don't know what kind, might let the wife choose it for a change. Doesn't really matter what she selects, I'll like it.

Ray - Really glad the meet was a success. It appears everyone had a great time. Personally, I think some bottles of Reisling would boost attendance even more. Wink

Hope everybody had a nice weekend. Tom

Mornin' everyone!

Zoe, I'll have the breakfast buffet (Looks good BTW) and a cup of dark roast coffee in a FGLK mug. Thanks!

Slept like a rock last night once I got to sleep.  Still getting some good comments about yesterday's NMRA event.  Guess it went over well.......  Now on to the next two events!  Summer Picnic, and Fall meet.

Currently 61°F under cloudy skies this morning here in the Finger Lakes with a high of 68° later this afternoon.  May have some showers later as well.

I shall spend much of the day cleaning house, spending some time with the layout, and recuperating from yesterday.  May mow part of the lawn if the rain holds off.

Have a good one!

Good morning. It's 73° and partly cloudy. The high will be 85° and there's there's a 20% chance of rain this afternoon.

Well today I need to get over to my parents place, get the tractor fired up and mow their yard. We have a 50% chance of rain tonight followed by two days with better than 40% rain chance. So if I don't get it done today it'll probably be a lot harder later. As for the rest of the day I have no idea what I'll be doing later. Probably wishing I'd stayed in bed. Time to get at it.

Good Morning!!! Coffee and the Sunday breakfast buffet please thank you.

A 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms after 1pm. Partly sunny, with a high near 80. Breezy, with a south wind between 21 and 28 mph, with gusts as high as 45 mph.

Can’t find room for all the stuff laying in the Dining room. It all came out of the kitchen and the oh look there’s an empty space let's put it there room and now there is more storage than before Tongue Tied….but it won’t all go back. Kinda like the dirt from a hole. Brenda’s gone already so I guess I’ll keep on trying to clean this mess up. Got all day.

If it doesn’t rain today, I’ll mow.

Time for me to call it a night. Didn't do much today. Ran some trains, watched some documentaries about Pearl Harbor, ran some trains, watched a couple of videos about Titanic, ran some trains, backed up some files, ran some trains, did a little work on the layout, ran some trains and took a few photos. And once in a while I'd eat a sandwich or some rice. See y'all tomorrow.

Evening All,

Not much happening this way. It has been overcast all day so it never really got hot. I get off w**k tomorrow at 4 PM so I get a little break before the next 2 days that will be the busiest.

Ken- When I was stationed in HI and with not a lot of money, my family (MOH + 2 young kids) would have grilled chicken thighs (BBQ) and rice probably 3-4 times a week for supper. I will still eat chicken but I'm not crazy about it anymore. MOH and I figured it was a low cost meal and everyone had a decent supper. Of course the rice had to be in the oriental style- No minute rice here.Smile

Hope everyone has a good night and prayers for those in need.

Evenin' Folks........

Janie, just a cup of decaf and a comfy seat by the stove for me tonight......

Aaaaaaaahhhhh!  Great day today.  All events were well accepted and fun.  Lots of compliments from the people who attended.  My clinic was well received and went over well as was the lantern presentation and the History of Victor (NY) Railroads.  We had a last minute addition to the afternoon activities, a Lehigh Valley Caboose being restored on an old siding.  Had about 40 people in attendance for the day. (yawn!)

 Evening fellow dinners.

 Flo, Beer please.

Pretty much wasted my 2 days off. On thing I did was a little running, fixed a chair in the Garage / Train room, started the taxes and went to the grocery store.

Sue is getting some what difficult to shop for, seems she is sick of noddles. On the budget we have, avoiding noodles can be a real challenge.

Not feeling great, had some left over Pizza for lunch and it not sitting well in the stomach. Ick!

Johnboy .... We're smiling because you are here. That's why. Not because your knee hurts though. Hope it improves.

Todd, Galaxy and others about the speedometer. You may wish to calibrate it this way. Drive on a highway at a fast, constant speed. Pay attention to the speed reading. When the police officer pulls you over, he will tell you how fast you were going. Wink

Looks like it will be stormy in the Heartland today.

I'm still doing the taxes. Four sets of returns. Each has many complications. When I look up the tax codes, I am overwhelemd with all the details. ...... I try not to think about the huge tax increases currently scheduled for January 1, 2013. Yikes!

I just posted the other end of the GN passenger train on the thread about marker lights. Here is the same photo. The Athearn observation was modified to have lighted marker lights and a lighted tail sign (drumhead).

Whistling

Morning All,  What a great bunch of smiling faces in here today,

Chloe, is there any cold pizza left over from last night ?  Oh great , I'll have a couple of pieces and then a fruit cup.  Thank You.

Not much to report on,  I am  back at work today and tomorrow. That's a good way to screw up a week-end isn't it Curt ??

Was doing some trim work around those basement windows yesterday. Standing on a step ladder and a chair and by suppertime last evening my left knee was just killing me with pain.  Still this same this morning, so I will be taking the elevators and not the stairs today on my rounds.

While running some trains last evening, trying to forget the knee pain, the one train on the main just takes off like a racehorse.  I try to stop it with the controller and nothing happens. Reached down and shut the power of to Control-master 20 and got it stopped.  Plugged in another tethered controller and it seemed to work OK.  Got out a new phone cord and plugged it in to the original controller and again all worked well. So that first coiled cord got tossed as obviously that was the problem. At that point someone might have been able to sell me a cordless throttle. But all is well now and this will probably last another 5+ years.  I always keep a couple of spare cords on hand as I have three of those power packs.

                                                                                    Ick!

Galaxy, I thought KIAs were supposed to be a good vehicles, after all they are off shoots from Hyundai which have a good reputation.  Hope that all gets looked after for you. My thoughts on the glass go right along with what Ken said.

Hope those Twisters miss all of you in the Mid-west-south and that the rain in the northeast doesn't amount to flooding.

Prayers and healing thoughts for all in need.  And that means you as well Ulrich, always thinking about you and your good Lady "P".

Good Morning!!!  Coffee and the brakeman’s special please. Over medium on the eggs thank you.

Umbrella Rain today I don’t need to even see the forecast. It’s raining now. Rained yesterday too. Not much, just a mow stopping amount.

Brenda’s Mom went back in the horsepiddle yesterday. Nothing serious, they have been giving her anti-biotics thru IV at home and the fluid just keeps building up. They went and admitted her because when they shoot her full of something starting witjh a G I think Brenda said, the fluid will come off so much she would never leave the pot. They’ll cath her and watch over 50 pounds of water flush away it sounds. What I can’t believe is the doctors let it build up that much in the first place. And yes they have been aware of it because they have seen her and been questioned about it. Now all of a sudden it’s an issue.Tongue Tied

G- I usually use the highway mile marker method for highway speeds. Get to 60 mph on a fairly level stretch Start the stopwatch or timer whe the sign just hits the A-pillar and stop the watch at the same point the next mile. No the mile markers are not exactly 1 mile apart, and yes the car can slow or speed up a bit, but you usually will get within a mph or two either way and yes, it's best to have another person to either drive or timeWhistling. Now, because most likely the greatest risk for speeding tickets is in Springfield, an the most expensivebeing in a school zone, the other and easier way for in town speeds, is pull up to your local policeman and ask him to laser tag you as you pass. Similar to what Ray said, but not as much fun I suppose. Maybe they won’t do that there, but here in the small hamlet but with a faint smell of rotting soybeans on certain days and the occasional startled skunk type village of Williamsville, Illinoyz, there is no problem. That’s what I do with any new to me vehicle and what i did when I got the new truck. Saw the Chief of Police parked in the park and swung in to get a speedo-check. I think he mis-understood at first cause he asked if I didn’t think it was a bit chilly for one of those, but I got him to understand. He seemed a bit disappointed but said sure. Of course I had to wait for him to finish his Facebook post, but he was more than happy to do it. He also said that at various speeds the speedometer could vary and suggested I blow through town at 60 just to see how far off it was there because the mile marker method isn't as accurate as his $950,000 indisputable gun. I declined. Told him I felt I was being set up. He claimed he wasn’t and seemed just a bit upset I would accuse him of that after all these years, but he was nice enough to hold my beer during the test so I could concentrate on the speedometer. Thoughtful.

All stuff done today will be inside. I suppose that’s good because that means that stuff will get done sooner.

I did manage to pick a few things up in the train room yesterday. Shift them around I guess is a more accurate term. Not much accomplished, but it’s a start. It’s a start.

Ya’ll have a good day!!!!

Good morning. It's 67° and partly cloudy. The high will be 82°.

No plans for today. Just going to run some trains, watch a few few movies and some TV shows. Earlier I was running the Stewart F3 A/B set but I've parked them and am now running the GP38 and SD27J, Bachmann and Atlas respectively. The MoW crew still has to come back and clean up the mess they made when they ripped out a turnout yesterday. The debris is still piled by the track.
