Jim of the Cape, Thanks, it is so easy to get past the frustration challenges, after you finally get things working right, ha hah.  (The funny thing is that I am an IT person & 'I' should be able to 'conquer' those challenges.... RIGHT....) Ummm Hmmm...  I really love your buildings!!! Those look great! Please keep updating us!

Did someone say Airsoft?  I practice with an KJWorks 45 & a P93, green gas versions, in the room 1-15ft, & I am a better shot when using real units from the little .22's (favorites) all the way up to heavy mags (cost intesive)!! Hope you work out your AR issues.

Cuda Ken, I ABSOLUTELY love that '69 Charger 500, that is awesome!!!  & no 'I' piece, are those still hard to come by, or has the after market made improvements & nicer versions of NOS?

Hey, I didn't mean to leave anyone out, but enjoyed the conversations,
You all take care!!!!

Whoa!!! Two days in a row!!!
Chadley is buying Weekend,  Yippeee
Dinner (anything) is on me, Enjoy!!!

Moaning all, Monday Morn here...

Lee - Thanks. I do plan on giving the pier a wash to tone it down, I might use RAY'S technique to give it a bit of a mortar look.

CapeJim - Thanks, that is the look I'm going for. I plan on planting a few small tree's and bushes to get the overall feel of an overgrown river. I plan on putting in a few dead tree's to simulate the river been flooded some time in the past. Still very much a work in progress. I think I will go with black and a light dusting of rust chalk powder.

Rob - Thanks alot, There will be stop boards either side when the bridges are out, so no errant N scale engineer can swan dive an SD70ACe into the valley below. Wink

Cheers,

OzJim

Evenin' folks!

Chloe, I'll just have a decaf right now, still full from the "Beef on Weck I had for lunch.  I don't dare take my blood pressure right now as I had about 3 tasblespoons of salt that came with it (actually scraped off about 3/4 of it.  It was loaded, but Goooooooooooddd!

Oh Jim, "Beef on Weck" (also called "Beef on Wick" in some places is a regional western NY delicacy....  Kind of like "Buffalo" wings.  Buffalo NY is the source of both. Basically it is about a half inch of finely shaved rare roast beef served on a Kummelweck Roll topped with tons of salt and caraway seed.

Sue,  No I do not like Bachmann for the Tsunami Sound....  I hate the sound!  I do like Bachmann as I think they are the best for the money out there for steam.  They are also just about it for good running small steam.

TSF, my deepest condolences on the loss of the pet.  Labs are wonderful, loving dogs....  Hopefully he didn't suffer long.

Barry, my prayers for your friend.  Hope he can recover!

Train Show was a great one.  Lots and lots of folks spending $$$ on hobby stuff.  Talked to several vendors.  All said they had a great day!  Talked about the hobby with a lot of folks, and hope we picked up a few new members.  Pouring rains all the way to Batavia today.  Stopped raining just long enough for me to get our stuff into Batavia Downs.  By the time I left the sun  was shining.  Drove home into grayness.  Sun has now appeared here as well.

Later!

Hey, Flo, since Chad's buying... Whistling okay, I'll just have a hot fudge brownie sundae and a Santa Fe mug of coffee, please. Thanks!

Chad, depends on if you're a hardware IT guy, software IT guy, or both!  The computer end is the 'easy' part of things. Smile, Wink & Grin Of course, I've held that DCC is its own special Bang Head sometimes.. I'm just trying to set back the $$$ needed for the fascia panel, the radio remote throttle (not to count decoders and installing them in all my locos)...  I had picked up a Digitrax DB150 (smart booster) at a good price (guy selling off some/all of his layout stuff) earlier. Once I get those pieces of the puzzle...THEN I get to learn CV's and all the fun stuff of "Why isn't this w**king?" Wink For now, my main challenge is to get the layout wired for DC, with the aim of later adapting to DCC. Thanks for the compliments on the buildings - the brick one you saw in the photo (built from DPM modules and some Plastruct reinforcing pieces) had to be stripped down and repainted a second time (maybe a third; I try not to recall that part of things...) after a not-so-successful attempt at grouting first go-round.

And that's been waaaay too much thinking for one space of time - Flo, how's that hot fudge sundae coming along? I could definitely use that now....Thanks, doll. Dinner

OzJIm - sounds like you're doing fine, as "wild and wooly" it does look! Stopboards, eh? How thick and sturdy do those have to be for a SD70ACe? Wink Looking forward to seeing things as you get even more done on that part of the layout. You could also add some tall grasses in spots, and maybe some stumps in the underbrush near the bridges.

Ray, I did find a description of your "Western New York" (as I think it was Google - or Wikipedia? - described it) delicacy, even down to the Kennelweck bun (and photos, also). Dinner Hey, thanks for the clouds mini-tutorial (which is now converted to a Pages document for future reference off-line). Thumbs Up

Time to get back to my hot fudge - yesindeedee!

Jim in the Cape,

Oh yeah I totally hear that!!!
I'm a Hardware guy, I like buiding servers & such, & making modified gunsmithish things on a big mill & lathe. I've always had the mechanical Hardware sense & understanding of it, & venture that into simple electronics. I guess it's in my blood, that way..

Programming, not so much, as dyslexia tends to alter the approch to otherwise simple software questions.  Sort of when they say on the TV 'Winds are North...'   Well, is that out of the North or Going Northlery, now I'm confused, show them arrow thingies!
Right? That is my conundrum with DCC, one manufacturer has a Function here & the other does something different, ...To toggle my Dynamic, unleases my consist, depending on the loco.. Hmmm.   Oh well..

Enjoy!!

Jeff -I'm sure you're glad to track down what was causing your problems with the power on that loop. Sometimes Mr. Murphy sets us a delayed-fuse trap...Oops You don't have a Bermuda Triangle of your own there on the layout, do you?

Yeah, funny thing was that track has been in place since I put the extension in, say back in 2005. A Bermuda triangle? I don't know. But there's some place in here where tools and handy supplies keep disappearing.

Grilled chopped steak burgers, please.

Stuck the finished sign on a building and sent a pic to my friend. It looks so amateur hour, I'll not post it in here. Next time I need to use the magnifier to apply the paint. Yikes, it looks so bad enlarged on a puter screen. But I know she'll still appreciate the thought.

Can you folks help me to a stool? No Berry the kind you sit on!

 Evening Fellow Dinners

Flo, Beer and a pan to soak my feet in.

I can hardly walk on my left foot tonight, it was fine till I got off. Guess it has something to do with getting off them for awhile then making the work again that causes them to hurt.

Teen Steam While I knew Duke was having problems with the broken leg, I did not know the decision was made to put him down. (or did I miss read) I just went thought that with Tiffany our 17 year old American Eskimo.

In my case, while I miss her it was Tiffany's time. That has made it much easier than I when we lost Sonya my first Wolfhound. I still think of both of them in different places in the house. When I was in the bathroom Tiffany would peak around the door, and bark at me and run into the kitchen wanting me to follow her so she could snack. I still look at where Tiffany would sneak a peek and smile.

Sonya's passing was much harder on me. With in 4 hours of knowing she was in trouble, we lost her.

I smile and think about her when I sit on the couch in the family room. She would come up behind me and places her head on my left shoulder wanting to be petted on the head.

Todd Only reason I did not miss Ziva is because I got Band Of Brother's from the library. Plus CBS.COM has not been posting any new shows!

Far as Bank Of Stupid renting me my house? Aren't they doing that all ready? Do you know where I can find out some details by chances? I am sure they will want pretty close to the same as my house payment. Bang Head SoapBox

Far as the Wrecked Superbird I am 95% sure it has been saved one way or another. (other way is cutting out the hidden vin's and welding them into a 70 Road Runner then adding need parts) While I saw it done, I did not do it I know and saw the parts from a wrecked Superbird sale for $35,000.00 and all the parts fit in the back of a pick up truck. Whistling

Well time to see if I can get a Ziva fix?

Ken-I didn't really post about Duke's broken leg, that happened about 2 weeks ago. Since then, I've been helping make him comfortable. Late morning today my mom and I tried to move him and Duke nipped at me, He never did that. (Although a cold nose under warm blankets on my feet in the winter was not too great of a wake up call) My parents and I agreed after that he was in too much pain. I am not one to wear my emotions on my sleeve. I really didn't talk about it in the diner. I tucked Duke's bed he used for about a year under mine, which we used to share. I just can't bring myself to get rid of it, and my parents already took care of his bowls.

Today was actually my grandpa's birthday. He and I were close, he died ten years ago from a heart attack. So tomorrow I'm going to go to the cemetery where he's buried and then walk a path they have in the back. The bluebells are blooming, so I want to see them and then I'm going to come home. My dad needs me to do some stuff for him. Seeing as how he as federal jury duty this week.

Howdy ....

TSF ... Your friends care about you and are sad you lost your dog. Don't be shy telling us about how you feel.

Barry ... Prayers for your friend .

Sue ... Happy B'day! .... Yes, I am using Chooch retaining walls. Each end of each sheet has waste to cut off. I make sure I cut at 90 degrees. I install them end-to-end. I have to be careful. If they are too snug, they will bulge outward. If there are too far apart, there is a gapm but that is better than bulging out. I fill the gaps with putty. Then I color the putty the as close to the same as the stone colors as I can.  Then, I cover all the stones with thin washes of acrylic paint.

JimCG ... Your buildings are looking great already. They will be very nice when yoy complete them.

On the layout I worked some more on retainling walls. Plus, I did several miscellaneous things.

Happy Model Railroading.

TSF: Sorry to hear about Duke but it was the right thing to do.

Time for me to call it a night. Today I set the speed table for the GP9 Frankenstein locos. I started with the Digitrax road switcher thrott;e response curve of CV2=26, CV6=48, CV5=98. The CV2 setting was too high as they started from a dead stop at about thirty smph and the CV5 top speed was too low for my taste. To get a creeping start required a CV2 setting of 7 and the top speed CV5 is set at 154. So now the locos will creep (mark the spot to see if they're moving) at throttle position one and top out at 74 smph. Throttle position 5 is a nice 42.3 smph. See y'all tomorrow.

Evenin' All!

JIM: or should I call you Joe or Jeff or something because you called me MATT! Haha. We play traditional Croatian music- its a youth singing, playing, and dancing group. I play the bass for them- a traditional bass similar to an upright string bass. It's called a Berda, and it's got four huge steel would strings (they kill fingers for breakfast) and it's got frets as well. I play it with a really big pick. We've got people who play other Croatian instruments in it; I could list them but I don't think I could spell them properly. Phonetically sounding it out, there is the "Brach," "Bugarija," and the "Prim" (with an accented I.) It's quite fun playing bass for them.

That's it for now.

Well,  it was touch and go yesterday but he seems to have stabilized last night..we just got back home from the hospital..all his family and friends were up there..so we took turns with the bedside visits...that hospital is getting a little too familiar here...SighWhistling....he had a bloodclot go through his heart and that was what put us on alert yesterday but they went after it and caught the thing later on with more coumarin ...hopefully that will do the trick.

Today will be getting some sleep..which was pretty rare yesterday..and then getting some groceries laid into the house so we could be in and out during the day...

Have a nice one!!

Good morning. It's 58° and clear. The high will be 82° and it'll be mostly sunny.

The plan for today is to go back to bed. Not feeling well this morning as I seem to be battling some digestive system bug.

I did get one thing accomplished this morning. I programmed my Bachmann GP7's so they now have MARS lights when going forward.

Good Morning!! Coffee and a breakfast scramble with sausage gravy please. Thanks.

Mostly cloudy, with a high near 61. Gonna be a bit chilly today.

Happy B-Day Sue!

Galaxy- Very funny and oh so accurate. Tenjoo berry much.

Jim- If I even looked like I was thinking about bringing her home I doubt if I would survive the wrath of Home SecurityLaugh. “But honey, I just got her to help you out around the house”Dead. Building looks great by the way.

Welp, got part of the kitchen painted yesterday. Brenda seems to have filled the counters up. AgainSigh. Even though I had them pulled out and away from the walls to get the thing kinda fixed. She just couldn’t wait. Then she comes home and wants to paint. Like I said, “I was gonna paint” she said. So she started to paint the hopefully former oh look there's an empty spot let's put it there room. I got doing something else. ”Honey? Would you get this corner.?” She wanted me to do a second coat and so I said ok. Went back to kitchen and started only to get stopped several times by would you do this part I can‘t reach it. I need your brush, retape this, would you pour the paint I make a mess etc. Needless to say when all was done for the night she accomplished more and, in her own words, “gets things done faster than me”. I reserved my comments for later thinking…maybe that Chinese waitress would want to live in dogs room.

Today will be more of the same except Brenda took the day off to paint. Why? I don't know but she did. She wants to paint. BUT as usual, she said to some member of her family that she is taking off work and thy have, as usual, come up with some need for her. Something they can't do. This time it's her other sister (not her evil twin, just her evil sister) has made an appointment for their Mother and suddenly needs Brenda's car to do it so that means Brenda has to go too. Also, she (evil sister) has yet to find someone to carry MIL out and down the front steps. I can help but can't carry her and wheel chair down the steps by myself. So, THAT means I will also have to go there and also hang around until the doc appointment is over to get her back in the house. All the while listening to evil sister complain about having to do everything and others are just going to have to start doing something, to which at some point I'll say " the only thing you do is run your mouth set stuff up you can't do, expect someone else to drop what they're doing and run into town to do it and b....(female dog) about how much you're doing and not getting anytime for yourself, thereby starting Family War Who knows How Many. She's not really my favorite person.

Ya’ll have a Great Day!!!

Good Morning All,

80’s for the last two weeks, now we have upper 20’s to upper 40’s for the extended forecast; I guess global warming is on hold until further notice….

I did get the garage roof seams tarred and I built up several new molds.  I’ll pour the negatives tonight: farm tractors, small loading dock details, Rivarossi parts for a Big Boy, tow motors, wire spool loads, individual wire loads from a steel mill, and hay bales.

Jim, I searched Google Earth for eastern coal mines and found the only thing out in the open on a flat section of earth was the rail loading area.  Those buildings are a collection of all the coal and ore mine kits from Suydam.  I plan on using brown and tan static grass between the ties to give it the proper unkempt look.  A road will be built between the rails and the front edge of the area.

Jeff, friend of mine was running a brass 2-10-2 on the club layout and the firebox axel derailed on every curve.  Found the fireman side wheel flange was out of round.  Not sure how to fix it since the wheel is brass and the tire is nickel silver.

Sue, HAPPY BIRTHDAY! Bachman Spectrum series has come a long way.  I have 2 of the Berkshires and 4 Mountains on my layout and a couple of critters and I’m very impressed with them considering the cost.  I got the Berkshires for $99 each new and the Mountains only cost $60 each (all with DCC).  Any one of these locomotives will pull 50+ cars.  The one Berkshire with frog snot pulls 98 forty-foot boxcars on a 0% grade.

MusicMusicMusicHappy B-Day, dear Sue, Happy B-Day to yooohoo... MusicMusicMusic

It is one of those days - whenever I make the slightest move, a nagging pain shoots through my body, so I better don´t move. Tried to get rid of it with a hot shower, but it didn´t help at all Sigh

It is closing in on 3 p.m. and the sun´s just out - took a long time for the morning fog to clear. Maybe that´s the cause for my pain - or maybe it is having received yet another negative answer on my job application front. Would you believe that we still have not received an answer or any money from our job administration? We have about $ 2 left for the rest of the month ...

I sometimes wonder what I may be doing wrong. Apparently having no chance to get a job anywhere in the world really eats me up. I feel useless.

Sorry for not being a good sport today.

Barry - Coumarin is not really a harmless drug. AFAIK, it is not approved here. I was on Marcumar instead of Coumarin, which is a synthetic coagulant. Wouldn´t touch a knife or even a pair of scissors while I was on that stuff.

Back to the sofa...

Have a good one.

Good morning, Gang.  Chloe, I will take a large coffee and a slice of Birthday Cake to go, please.

Thanks for the birthday wishes, Lee, Rob, Garry, Todd, Jim, and G.

Jim,  Larry is not trained.  He works such long hours that we must make the most of weekends.

Ray & Lee,  Yes,  the price of the Bachmann locos are reasonably priced.  Larry likes the fact that you can program the Tsunami's to automatically to use the appropriate bell and whistle sounds.

Garry,  I am planning to use the Chooch panel to custom a sandstone depot.

Later,   Sue

Anything is possible if you do not know what you are talking about.

Just too get out of the low mood and trying to ignore the pain, I fiddled around with my z scale plan again. I did not like having only a small part of it scenicked, so I introduced some major changes, without sacrificing the overall concept. The tracks in the staging area are not angled any more, allowing the scenic part to be extended significantly. I also she the idea of having a big train hall to disguise the curve, as there is none available. i would have to photo-etch the steelwork - something I have never done before.

Well, here is the update:

Looks a little more "mature" to me.

Jeff - hope you´re feelin´ better by now!

Good Morning Modelers!

Remember last month when I was talking about record snow fall and we ended at #2 in history for February; well, we are now looking at the driest March in history and breaking record highs along the way.  Summer may have gotten here all too soon which means we might be looking a lots of fires coming this year. Sigh

Let me also add in my Happy Birthday Sue! Cake

Whistling

So there are UPS and DOWNS today.

The Big UP is Sue's BIRTHDAY,     She is 21 (again).

A Very Happy Birthday Sue,  hope you have a really great year.  Kisses  oops sorry, hope Larry wasn't looking.

The Downer is STF's loss of Duke.  Sad  My heart goes out to you.  I have had to put down several dogs in my 71 years and it never gets easier.  And you do mourn the loss for quite awhile, so give yourself some time.Angel

This was a very busy week-end around our place. They had a shower for my DIL and baby Son at our house on Saturday for all of her friends and Church members.  Then on Sunday was the Shower for them at my SIL's home for all the family relatives.  My wife's main contribution (with my help) was the cakes.  For Saturday we had made a Baby Buggy Cake with a little face and a pair of feet sticking out of it.  For the Sunday event we made a Soother Cake.  by using a decorated round cake with a Blue Balloon fixed in the center of it.  She had  many compliments on them and has been asked to make another one for a different shower next week-end.   With all these showers they should be pretty clean ladies don't cha think ?

My major job for the week-end was to keep the dogs and myself out of sight, so we were not at home most of the time so that meant no work on the LM&E.

Back at work today and tomorrow //// actually six days this week.... Don't like that.  Need another holiday.

Ulrich.  I like what you are planning..  Really looks interesting.  But "Z" is not for me actually "N" isn't for me with my eyes and missing fingers.  I'll be sticking with the HOnorable Scale.

Hope you all have a great week, Glad the travelers are home safe.

Johnboy - I would not look at Z scale, if I had to buy the stuff. It is a borderline issue for my eyes and my hands. But I have a whole lot of that stuff, and it´d be just a shame to see it wasted.
