Talk about a slow day...got told by my doctor that my A1c is actually lower this time and that my cholesterol was good..now comes the funny part...my heart somehow collected water around it...oh goody here we go again..more testings and probings are coming to me ....
Then, go to a couple of stores to pick up some stuff...well...they are now closing one of the Zellers stores up here to convert to a Target store...so I got a bunch of good stuff on sale there, including a few HO scale trucks...heeheehee...
Tomorrow is going to be something of a St.Paddy's day t hing for us here...a few bars in the vicinity are doing the weekend here so that may get interesting around here...

Time for me to call it a day. Pulled my mu'd pair of GP9m's off the display rack this evening. Gave the wheels a cleaning then test ran it on the layout. Both units run perfectly together. I look forward to seeing them pulling a train around the layout. Too much excess rolling stock on the track right as I haven't put away the cars from the last few coupler mounting sessions. Maybe someday when I feel up to gathering them up and putting them away. See y'all tomorrow.

Janie just a cup of decaf for me please. I'll be in the back by the stove for a bit.
Temperature got up to 65°F today. Nice and sunny day. Still does get a bit chilly when the sun goes down, and still too warm to light the wood stove here.
I managed to get a couple things done on the layout. Couple weeks ago i mentioned I knocked over the the octagonal (plaster) chimney next to the Powerhouse. In fact I dropped it again while trying to glue it back together, so it is now smashed beyond being usable... But thanks to the generosity of of one of our coffee shop patrons, I recieved a few days ago in the mail another chimney. It has been primed and gotten the same treatment (colored artist pencil) and is now in place by the Powerhouse! Thanks!
Barry, hope they can correct the heart problem quickly and easily! I'll keep you in my prayers.

Our weather is back to normal, i.e. gray and wet. I will run down to our DIY place to get some more glue, so I can start on the rigging of my boat. Still no word from our job agency and, of course, no money. Still not able to pay the rent ... Believe me, I am really getting nervous now.

Best get ta chores, plan for the day, got some runnin this morning, then some more yard work and maybe run the tiller again. If it works up good, then sow some lettuce, spinach, n radish’s, might even put out some early taters, since the grounds warm enough.

Good morning. It's 68° and mostly cloudy with patchy fog. The high will be 85° and it'll be partly cloudy.Well I'm not wearing the green today but the first yo-yo that tries pinching me may get scalped. Looks like the plan for today is to put away the excess freight cars that are on the layout. There's only thirty-five of them resting on the rails. i reworked them for various reasons, repaint, weathering, body mounting Kadee couplers, rebuilding/repair and on some all of the above. They weren't put away at the time because I didn't feel like it or I wasn't able to or other things got in the way. Maybe someday I'll have a rolling stock sale but I don't think it'll be any time soon.Last night the old 70's era Bachmann 0-6-0 got to run on the ten feet of track I use as a test track. It has no decoder so was being run on address 00. Smooth with no jerks or stutters. That reminds me that I also have half a dozen locos to put away. After that I should be able to run a train all the around the layout without encountering some kind of obstacle.

Not much going on today othern odds and ends. Got in here a bit late cause I watched Marley and Me for the first time. I liked the movie except the end. Couldn’t watch it so I walked away. I knew what was gonna happen when he took him to the vet that last time and I had already teared up a couple times pretty good so I walked out. Preeeetty much lost it when the boy said goodbye. I hate those kind of things about dogs.
Tonight I’ll be headin up to the restaurant bout 8ish for a combo St. Patty’s day and birthday celebration for me an a friend of ours. St. patty’s splits our B-day’s. Hers is the 15th and mines the 18th so we always celebrate together. She’s a year older, and for 3 days I get to say she’s 2 years older, or more like I’m MUCH younger than she is. Tonights the last night for that so I’m preparing for a multitude of “Hey! Zip it!”'s. Kind of a tradition. No Williamsville does not have green beer. Pabst Blue Ribbon wouldn’t do that to me.
Pretty foggy out no and I have a headache so if this keeps up could be a long night. Or should I say a short one.

Ah yes, St. Pattie's Day. He was a Scotsman that drove out all the snakes from the little isle wasn't he? Me, I've got some Irish blood in me, but it is a small portion as I am mostly English, German, and then Irish, with a bit of Scotch and some Bourbon. actually on my Fathers side the Family name is Scottish. Howard, is the Scottish pronunciation of Hayward. In fact back 5 generations ago the name was changed back to Howard from Hayward. The first ancestor of mine here in the country came out of prison in England in 1630. After 4 years of slavery to some Wealthy English Company, he was able to save enough money in one year to pay to bring over his wife and his brother and his wife. I am descended from the brother.
Yep slavery was quite profitable! Still is, only the rules have changed....

Took me four hours to get this far, including a bleeding thumb. I used Petra´s sewing needles to attach the sail to the boom - those needles are no tools men are accustomed to (ain´t I a sweet little MCP?) I am starting to like the boat. Tomorrow will be the day for sail # 2. Fabricating the shrouds will be something else ...

Not much to report from the land of Buckeyes on this beautiful spring like morning other then there's hasn't been much going on..I think I found the ideal track plan for Slate Creek..I have 2 other ideas I want to look at before I bring the bench work home(it was built in my son's garage.) and start track laying.I also scored my first HO Southern locomotive-a P2K GP18.I'm trying to strike a trade deal for a brace of Atlas HO Southern GP38s.I'm also looking at the possibility of buying a Bachmann Southern GP7 and RS3 but,that remains to be seen.As a looking back thing.While drinking my morning cup of java I recalled catching the old trackless trolley and going to Hall's hobby shop Saturday mornings that my dad was working or at his away terminal.What made these trips interesting is some times the trolley pole would come off the overhead and the driver would have to put the pole back on the wire..These trackless trolleys was history by the mid 60s..I recalled buying a used Revelle SW7($2.00) and couldn't wait to get home and put it in service alas! The old trolley car pole came off the wire 2 or 3 times(this usually happen at juctions) and of course to a 12 year old the trip home seem to take hours! I shall have a cup and look over da forum.Have a good'un!

Chloe, as time permits, I'll have a large bowl of Irish Stew and half a loaf of rye bread. Today I'll probably be conservative and wash that down with some green tea.
While I was at Home Despot the other night , I found some electrical receptacle boxes in plastic for house wiring with wings on them for attaching that hold my tethered throttles real well. At some point I might line them with a little foam to cushion them more. I installed two of them but plan on putting in several more around the layout to be able to lay the throttles aside when you need to use two hands on an issue that crops up.
Back at work for three days this week-end so not much going to happen with the LM&E for a day or two. Also have to get our Income Tax done for last year, so that is a priority for the start of the week.

As I said last night I gave my coal cars a black wash that looked pretty good yesterday. Looking at them this morning I felt a lot of them needed more done to them so I dry brushed black acrylic paint on those that needed it and then sprayed generic Dull Cote on them. I think it turned out pretty good for my first weathering job (everything done with acrylics). Next week I need to do their trucks and wheels. I was thinking a combo of latex rust and burnt umber will do the trick, although I will need to play with the colors some.

Ulrich- Very nice looking boat. The sails will really make it look awesome.

The morning fog has finally lifted here in the Finger Lakes and the sun is busy shining out there. THAT, of course is making the green grass grow all around.... Never, ever, have I heard of lawns being mowed around here in March.... May, yes. Maybe even the last week of April, but March??? the high today will be around 69°F Currently 61°F outside.
Going to do some yard w*rk this afternoon. No! Not outside yard w*rk! Are you nuts? Layout yard w*rk! Bought a couple rollers for the paint job. Ifr the paint is still usable, by tonight I should have the first coat (primer) of paint on the backdrop.

I see some of you Diners are already in the 'holiday' mood, eh? While (somewhat like Ray) I have a bit more German, English and some Welsh in my background, my one grandmorther's maiden name was Shaw (which I will claim as Irish, sorta...). And though my Dad liked Reuben sandwiches, I never got a taste for the sauerkraut on those. I do like corned beef, however!
Lee, sorry to hear of your friends accident; will keep the mother and the daughter (and rest of the family) in my . As for wearing seat belts, even my dear old grandmother had to wear hers if she rode in my car! Haven't had a serious accident, but I wear my seat belts regardless.
Rob, that's one nice thing of living outside of town like you do - you can see thousands of stars (on a clear night, anyway), and other than the native wildlife (no, not talking about any of your two-legged neighbors), very little noise at night. I used to really like that at Boy Scout camp in the summer (after everyone got to bed and I was lying in my sleeping bag, just listening to the night sounds).
NSJoe, hope you get the rest of your information on those colleges in soon, so you have some time to decide (and hope you get a couple of schools that are more affordable. And enjoy your helping out at the URHS yard!
Galaxy, have you ever noticed that the people who do those surveys about "Most optimistic/depressed/hopeful" areas, *never* list their city/town as one of the worst/bottom on the list? Kinda depends on who's paying to have the survey done, maybe... Besides, I've seen people who are in really tough circumstances, who still have a good attitude and find joy, anyway. (Just a random observation or two, or three, there....)

Jeff, that's a nice-looking 0-6-0 there! One steam switcher I had my eye on (but they're out of production and I expect hard to find (at a price I could go for) was the Rivarossi Yard Goat (0-8-0) or the Proto 2000 version of the 0-8-0 that they had. Ah well...will keep my eyes open on deBay.

Surprisingly, I think we got less than an inch of rain with the last storm front that moved through. Possibility of rain today, but it doesn't look like it right now. I spoke too soon - just heard it a little bit ago raining outside (but sun's peeking through again now).
Got in a MRR order (finally!) this morning at the post office. Couple more 2-bay covered hoppers (SP), couple of Walthers GSC 54' flatcars (SP & "Ri O'Grande"), and some detailing stuff. I also got out my Heritage Furniture kits (backdrop structure) - I have two, and was looking at how simple (or not) putting two together end-to-end would be. May start on that this afternoon, since when I get that one done, I can put it in anywhere I have a straight siding of that length (a bit less than 20 inches, I'm thinking it will w**k out to be),
Then again, those little 2-bay covered hoppers might not take too long to assemble, and I do have a few of them. (Can weather them later, if we get a dry spell again...)

Jim - at 6´5", I am not that small, either. I have test driven a Smart some time ago, and, actually, I felt quite comfortable in it. Due to the short wheelbase, the ride is a wee bit jumpy, with a funny semi-automatic transmission adding to that. It´s just a motorized shopping cart, with a roof over it, but that´s all we need.
You can´t beat those 75 mpg.

Looks like Bank Of Stupid got the payment from ILL Hardest Hit Program. Payments had been $877.00 but now that I am caught up, it is $998.00. Looks like it is time to try to get them to lower the payment.

Rob, I haven't heard you mention the coyotes lately - have they moved on elsewhere, or did you plant a few? Hope either or both have happened, so you don't lose any stock.
This afternoon I started on that Heritage Furniture kit. Funny thing I noticed about it is, the directions do not say anything about combining kits for a longer building (only about making it not as deep, or making it at an angle). But I found some parts whose numbers (on the sprues next to them) that are not at all mentioned in the directions, but look like they are made for combining kits to make a longer building. Hey, I'm good with that! So I took one of the parts which looked to be the right size, and yup - it covers the join between the two front face walls, and pretty nicely matches the 'stonework' on the walls to either side of it. I am pleased at that! Should make a nice large factory when I get the kits put together. It's at home now, drying. I'll post photos tomorrow or Monday (after I take them). The spacing for the two loading doors on each trackside wall seem 'off' for either 40 foot or 50 foot boxcars, but I don't think I'll try to do the serious kitbashing/mods that it would take to get them to fit either way.
