Good morning! 22f and cloudy, light winds. Some flurries and "they" are saying the snow will start around noon. 8-12" is still the guess. We're going to try to set some of the 4  seven x nine foot patio doors before the blizzard.

Thanks, Curt. I'll pass it along to PFC Son.

JR, I started the layout after finishing the basement in 2006, so 6 years to get this far. The mainline and all spurs/sidings are complete, scenery is about 70%. The next "big" project is installing valances to get a shadow box effect. I'm not real sure how I'll do that,so I'm waiting to get my "round tuit". That's on backorder ! LOL!!  I want to re-do some of the backdrop. As I moved around the layout painting it, it seemed to get better and better with experience. The first stuff I did looks pretty sad.I've always wanted an operation type layout, so actuallly starting operations is a kind of milestone for me. It's a ton of fun, even running by myself! Thanks for the nice comments.

Chin up, Ulrich. It'll work out.

Jeff, I hope you were talking about pics of the boot modifications and not foot mods!! LOL!

DerJohn, Did it arrive?

Where's CapeJim?

That's about all for now.

Good morning. It's 61° and cloudy with patchy dense fog. The high will be 75° and there's a 30% chance of showers and thunderstorms.

It looks like more cleanup on the layout will be the order of the day. I was able to put my walking boot on this morning with very little discomfort and can move around quite comfortably. Looks like the modifications I made yesterday are a good thing. Actually they were the actions of a desperate man who needed some relief. This morning I find myself looking at an Athearn C&NW F7-A shell and I wonder what I'm going to do with it. I also have an SD40-2 shell that I'll probably chop up for pieces to use on my U25C project to make it a slightly unusual beast.

Good Morning

We are getting some sun this morning...which is a good thing!Big Smile

Columbian coffee in a SUNNY SOUTHERN mug, please.

***Ulrich, hope your lawyer can get things set right for you in short order.

***Todd, he is the son of a guy at the feed store (who actually does work hard). Anyway, do you know "some" of those folks holding "Will Work For Food" signs are total scammers. Not only employed, but own homes and drive nice cars. A gumshoe type from a news team followed a few of them home with mind boggling results. One guy in particular had 3 cars, including a BMW in front of a beautiful house. Sheesh!

Have a good day all.

Morning All,

At w**k again today. Highs for rest of week supposed to be in the mid 80's without rain. The AMB building kits came in yesterday, after w**k last night I looked at the kits and they look like they are going to be fun building (wood kits). I was impressed too about the quick shipping. I ordered Thursday afternoon and recieved them Monday. Tomorrow I start putting the layout back together again.

Talk to you all later. Prayers for all those in need.

Evening All,

Lion- I watched a show last night where a NYC subway line was above ground and it looked like they were using the PRR PL style signals. Is that true?

Nope. But the subway equipment might have been running on the LIRR for the movie shoot. I have heard of movies where the setting was supposed to be NYC but was actually shot on the CTA. They tried to disguise Chicago equipment as NYCT equipment.  Some studios have either built mockups or had purchased old NYCT equipment for their shoots.

Many subway sequences are shot at Court Street; Hoyt-Schermerhorn, or other places without regular service. NYCT is a busy railroad and to get shooting time there is very expensive. Some shoots are taken at one of several trolley museums that have NYCT equipment.

Whistling

Morning Gang,

Hope you all slept well.

Chloe, when it eases up a little, see if you could rustle me up a bowl of Special K with berries, some cinnamon toast and a HC.   Please & thanks.

ULRICH & PETRA,  you are in my thoughts and prayers. Good advise has been given here and I really don't have anything to add to it.  I know with your resourcefulness that you will find a way out of this dilemma and you will do it without sacrificing your layout. None of us want to see you do that after all the sacrificing you have done to get to that point.  Hang in there Buddy.

JR.  have a great season, safe miles, few breakdowns and nothing you can't handle quickly, adding up to lots of Ws in that final column.

INCH,  If you would for me as well, please tell JERRY and SALLIE, they have been in my thoughts as well of late.  I always enjoy when he visits the Diner. Tell him there is a chili cheese dog waiting for him and I'll buy.

CURT,  You should teach us all how to get that amount of modeling done in such a short amount of time. What you do is remarkable and enjoy watching your work and updates.

BARRY, What was that one photo that you posted all about? It was the one that looked like some kind of a complex with various covered ramps leading into it.

JEFF, I still like those GP-30s. They look like the only thing they have on their mind is hard work.  Sure hope your Doc. won't be too upset with the re designing of that boot.  But whatever works for you is the main thing.

Well, I had three days off over the week-end and I planned on doing a lot of wiring on the LM&E but that was not to be.  I have two degenerative discs in my neck, that are partially pinching a main nerve.  It is part of the reason that I blacked out a year ago and had that fall injuring my shoulder.  It all came back to haunt me last WE., and by Saturday at supper I was very close to tears I was in so much pain and my shoulder had completely froze in place.  Made contact with a Masseur I know and he said he would take me in at his home early in the evening and he was able to get the shoulder freed up some and did a lot of stretching on the neck muscles to free them up and get a little more space for that nerve.  I'm still in quite a bit of discomfort in the neck area but the shoulder feels good.   I go back to see him again this evening, so I hope it continues to improve.

The only thing that did occur is that I got my desk cleaned off and re-organized. It looks wonderful and will be great to get back to modeling on a space of about 30 inches by 24 inches rather than trying to do it on the space of a dinner plate.    Confused    Thanks for the push RAY......

I am at work today and had better start to make it look like work here, so I will check out for now.  I don't always post but I do check in on you folks several times a day.  You are like family to me and I want to know what is going on with you.

Prayers and Blessings to all standing in need , and specially for the families of those three engineers that perished in Burlington and the others that got injured  in that Via Rail crash..

Johnboy out......................................and back to work.

I tried to run some trains today - just to get my head off the situation we are in. Everything went smoothly, until the train entered the station module Dead. I cleaned the track, made sure that the switch was working properly, cleaned everything again - still Dead. Took the modules apart, cleaned the rail joiners - again just Dead. I was just about to give up and go to bed sulking, when I checked the joiners with the feeder wires. Gave them a good cleaning, cleaned the track once more - ta da! My trains are up and running. Makes me a little happy and proud. Checked our bank account this morning, there is just enough left to pay coming months energy and telephone & Internet bill - Sigh. At least I can stay on-line.

Zoe, just a coffee, please and mind if you write it on my account until I can pay? Thank you, madam!

I have a doctor´s appointment coming up tomorrow. My left side is still kind of numb and the old ticker has a hitch in its gitalong. See what he will tell me.

Have a good one!

Anata no subete ni utsukushiku, hareta asa!

Zoe I'll have the #2 special, over easy on the eggs, home fries, bacon, and a double order of sourdough toast to go with my dark roast coffee in my R&GV RR mug.

Currently 31°F outside here in the Finger Lakes with a high around 33°F this afternoon.  A bright yellow orb is peeking through the clouds every now and then.  But tomorrow......  OMG!  Winter will arrive back here!  We could get an inch of sn*w!!!  WOW!  THAT is the most exciting news of the day.

Johnboy, you are certainly welcome.  Problem is my workbench is back to being just as messy as it was before I cleaned it....... WhistlingWink

Ulrich, friend, hang in there!

Good to have some of those who have been missing in action reporting in for some chat.  Good to see all of you.

Have to get the laundry done today before several other tasks take over...  Probably little or no modeling on the agenda for today. Grumpy

Later!

I have spend the better part of this afternoon, calling "friends" and asking them for a little help. Most of them felt "really sorry", but ... At last, one of them, a former colleague of mine from Vienna, is wiring some money to us, which should arrive by tomorrow. The amount he is sending us will take care of the month´s food. For him, it is a little thank you for all the gorgeous meals he had at our house, when the times were still good - at least that´s what he told me .Our landlord is also accepting a delayed payment of the rent, so the worst is over for us now. I feel much relieved now. It´ll be a meager month, but so have been many months in the past three years. I am sure that Petra will be able to make something out of nothing.

I wish there´d be a day when we can all meet. I am overwhelmed by the amount of help I have been offered from you - I really don´t know what to say.

Ulrich: I'm happy you're getting some relief.

After breakfast this morning my father called wanting some help with taking old 1963 Lone Star ski boat to the welding shop. The riveted seams are leaking so the seams will be aluma-welded rivets and all. We got the boat to the welding shop then stopped by the pharmacy on the way back so I could get a refill on my antibiotics. When we got back here I found a box on the back of my father's car. In it I found two N Scale mobile home kits and a pair of Fleischmann HO Scale street cars. They look like Schienenbus VB 998 models. The mobile home kits look like Nucomp Miniatures resin kits though I can't find anything with a name.

I got the model of that Fleischmann rail bus wrong. It's a Rail bus with side car class 798 / 998. I used to see the all over Stuttgart when I was there around thirty-five years ago.

Afternoon, everybody! ( Noooorm)

Got 2 of the4 big patio doors installed, then the wind kicked up off the frozen lake . Very cold. "They" might be right this time on the forecast, something's coming.

Inch, PFC Son is finishing up basic. He had real high test scores and went in as an E-3 (PFC) 18-X SF recruit, and hopes to make Sgt. within a year or two. He wants to make the Army a career but with the budget cuts was warned they may only re-up NCOs and higher. His next duty station should be FT. Bragg, unless something has changed , for Airborne, Sniper and SF training. That was the plan anyway. A SSgt with the 75th Rangers has been courting him to go that route, he remains undecided. He's in Co. C,1-50 Inf. Regt,198th Inf Bde. Be kinda neat if the two of them met up!. Thanks for asking!

See, Ulrich? Things are lookin' better already!

Sue, no background pics yet? Inquiring minds need to see!

Well, with the snow a'comin' I'll get in some more train time . That is a GOOD thing!

Chins up, all!

Depends on the type of tile,Rob. If you are sure you have enough, do a few practice cuts to find what works best for your tile.  you only need 1 tile to try it out!

Pleased ULRICH has some good news...finally.

Well, did the grocery shopping and with coupons and good sales prices due to MOH's new store opening amnaged to get for just over $100.

Then did the laundry...well two loads still have one left and the bedding to do.

Got the dishes done.

Had beef strips finely cut, sliced mushrooms in brown gravy with two dollops of sour cream over egg noodles {homemade Beef Stroganoff} for dinner.

Think I wil finish the one load of laundry so I can have all day tomorrow to do the bedding.

MOH got the schedule for next week already...CUT CUT CUT hours! Only 16 hours! I about spent THAT paycheck in the grocery store today {same company}. The manager, now that the new store is open, is cutting back to skeleton crew already adn they are overloaded...It IS coming to the first of the month, the Grand Opening is STILL drawing crowds galore!!!  GRRR...

Well, what else? Nothing I guess.

Rob,if your saw blade rotates toward you, try it face up first. Just an inch or so and check it. Should be OK. If not, flip it over. Go very slow, let the saw cut, shouldn't have to push much. Use the fence, mount it left of blade.Hope that helps and let me know how it turns out!

Evening All,

At w**k still counting down to midnight. Looking forward to the track work tomorrow. It felt strange last week not doing much of anything on the layout.

John Boy- I'm very lucky that I get a lot of time off during the week to work on the layout while MOH is at work so I am able to get a lot done and also lucky to be able to do OT to pay the majority of my addictionWhistling

Flip- I sent you a PM about what you asked.

Ulrich- I'm glad things look like they are improving a little for you and Petra.

Lee- I'm glad your Mother is doing better.

Curt- Please splain dif 'tween pairofmedics and emt's. Also, who rides the fire truck and whose in the ambulance.

An EMT is an Emergency Medical Technician. When I first started they needed 120-140 hours of training. An EMT-I required another 40-60 hours and could do more, such as intubation, and starting IVs. A Paramedic is an EMT-P with over 400 hours of training, and can do quite a bit more.

The MINIMUM crew on a basic life-support ambulance is an EMT-Basic and a CPR-Driver. If the ambulance is licensed as an advanced life support service, then the crew must be an EMT-P and an EMT-B.

The EMT curriculum is a Federal Department of Transportation specification, and the title is copyrighted and trademarked. Nobody can use the Star-of-Life emblem or call themselves an EMT without the proper training etc, however states may set different specifications that do not adhere to the DOT EMT specification.

EMTs are registered with the National Registry of EMTs, and must complete continuing education requirements (about 40 hours per two year registry period) but individuals must also be licensed by their own state in order to practice there.

LION was an EMT-I, but since I am also licensed as a Registered Nurse, I could practice at an EMT-P level, although I never did this.

Our local volunteer ambulance service had 15 volunteers of which about 7 are EMTs, and one is a Nurse Practitioner with prescriptive privileges and so functions in the clinic the same as a doctor.

Our service covers about 700 square miles, with only two paved roads (not counting the interstate or city streets).

Well cripes! I ended up twisting my back then getting my vertebrae slammed together this afternoon. I went out to replace some old spark plug wires on my van. I got the engine cover easy enough but while trying to get in position to get to the wires in question (I'd have to be laying down to do it as I can't kneel or squat easily) I lost my balance and fell backward out the open door. I made a snatch for the steering wheel with my right hand. That swung me around and I slammed my back against the rear of the door opening then hit the ground flat on my butt hard enough to clack my teeth together and crack a tooth. I now have a major ache right between my shoulder blades and in the upper part of my right arm. Now for those thinking how could I possibly screw up a simple job like this, it's not hard. It may be simple for you. For me it's a major job because I can't kneel unless it's just on one knee, I can't squat because what's left of my right foot/ankle doesn't flex or move at all. So to do this job i have to maneuver around so I can lay on my right side to get to the left side on the engine. If I were working on the other side of the engine I'd have to be on my left side. See why it's hard? Doing something like setting the timing can be interesting to say the least. The van is still sitting out there with the door open and the engine cover off and it's going to stay like that until I can get out there and do something about it, probably sometime tomorrow. Right now I'm just hunched over wishing the pain will just go away. I didn't even touch the plug wires.
