Evening All,

Lion- I did not realize you ran anything besides subway cars.

Eh... Subway trains, rail grinder, MOW movements, the signal dolly, MONEY TRAIN, Garbage Train, and the SUPER SUCKER aka "The Track-Vac"

All will be represented on my layout

Good Evening All,

Took a while to catch up posts but well worth it. Great to see Chuck and  Ulrich both back and some of you other sometimes posters too. Hope all of you heal up well and quickly.

The weather here in south Fla has been daffy. High 80's Thursday and then 60's through today. At least we didn't get all the rain they got just north of here. Got all our testing done and most all went well.  Not all the tidings were good though with some passings noted among friends.

Drop my fabricator off at the airport tomorrow am and then off to Stewart to spend a couple of days getting ready for the first Sebring event.    Catch y'all later, J.R.

Jeremy B .... I watched the video you linked about the VIA accident. I heard it was 3 VIA employees in the locomotive who were killed. That's very sad.

Gabe ... Harbor Springs? Is that where you live? I've been there. Nice town.

Jeff ... So far, Rivarossi is the only make of U25C's in HO. It was a good idea to replace the drive as you did because the Rivarossi drive was a cheap design. I had sold of them in CB&Q and NP, but I sold them a few years ago. Burlington used U25C's in the 1960's in Colorado and Wyoming.

JR Glad you took time to check in here while on your trip.

Rob ..... Did you get the little folks placed on the layout.?

Curt ... Eventually, I will get around to taking pix of downtown. Meanwhile look at these Pennsy sharks at the Burlington's yard at Chicago in 1965.

Evenin' folks!

Janie just my evening decaf please.  I'll in the back trying to get warm again.

Spent an hour on Skype tonight.  Test call for an NMRA Region Board of Directors meeting Wednesday night.  First time we have tried this using Skype.  Turned out very well with only one of the 5 of us that connected tonight having any difficulties, and we think that was technical at his end.  He did get it to more or less work....  One of the things we chatted about was the train accident up North of the border today!  My prayers for all affected by it.  Will be interesting to find out what happened.

Todd, So you scrolled down a bit at the site and things S.L.O.W.ed down, huh?  That article happened because the kid who is the editor of the R&GV RR Museum newsletter (a graduate of RIT in Rochester and a professional photographer) happened to come back to RIT and was at a train show in Batavia helping out with the Museum Table.  He was also just hired by the, ah, competing train magazine as their web editor just a few weeks before.  He happened to come over and watched the slide show of our division members model railroad layouts.  He interrupted me while I was talking with a guest, excused himself, and handed me his new business card saying.  Ray, throw me an email, we need to talk!  The result of the chat was the page you saw. Big Smile

Ulrich, the loco sure looks impressive crossing the gorge on the bridge!  Nice modeling, and nice photography.

i will echo whoever said they were enjoying the progress photos posted here!  BTW, Barry, what the heck kind of vehicle was THAT???

BTW have any of you people heard of CAN?  Any of you using it?  There is even a (Draft) NMRA standard for it....... Huh?Confused

Hope you all have a safe and good night!

Evening everyone!

Flo, spicy tomato bisque soup with a baguette please.

To help out a friend and coworker I swapped shifts Friday night and worked 4:30-9:30 watching several episodes of MASH with my boss. I didn't really appreciate that show until my teenage years but its one of those shows that I wouldn't easily tire of as it's, in my opinion, just so good!

Instead of tutoring sessions an hour at a time my student requested I do two hours on Saturday morning.

I started on my X29s and one of my N&W BPa kits had mangled ladders, which I can rework a bit, and it had been missing the sprue with the steps and certain grab irons. I posted a message on HOI trying to find some parts but have yet to get a response. I took off the coupler boxes that are molded onto the frame as I'd like to outfit the cars with Sergent's narrow shank couplers.

Good Morning All,

I worked most of the weekend on a model for the coal mine section and making scrap metal loads for 41’ gondolas.  I bought 2 gallons of 2 part plastic from a theatrical supplier in Chicago.  This plastic dries smooth, super hard, with very few air bubbles.  It’s used to cast costume armor and weapons for plays and movies. It has a pot life of 7 minutes and a de-mold time of 30 minutes.

Ray what is CAN (I think I’m stepping into a catfish and panfer joke).  Sounds like you had a great time with the grandkids.  I still have fits of verbosity now and then.

Curt, do you have any insights on containers PRR used in the 1940’s and 1950’s?  I have a model flat car from F&C with 5 containers on a PRR flat car…

Lion, it amazes me that the local hobby stores don’t advertise.

GabeUSMC: Your right downtown Sportsman Paradise.  Is that your only hobby shop?  I would imagine there would be a few in that part of the woods…

Sue, those trees also get heavier the farther you have to carry them.  Do you plan on using it in a wood burner?  I was wondering how birch performed, I know oak will last all day and put out some substantial heat.

Ray:  The Sir Vival safety Car was developed in 1958.

A two-part body designed so that the front section absorbs most of the impact while isolating passengers, seated in a separate rear compartment, from the collision.

A “safety chamber” under the dashboard, surrounded by a steel bulkhead, that passengers dive into moments before a collision.

Seats that turn backwards to prepare occupants for an impact.

The question remains unanswered, because, fortunately, none of these crash-survival strategies ever made it to a mass-production model. But each was proposed over the years by inventors with their own ideas of how to advance auto safety — and prototypes with these well-meaning (but misguided) safety concepts still exist.....taken from...http://www.nytimes.com/2007/09/23/automobiles/collectibles/23SAFE.html

Good Morning Gang!

Well, it is not really a good morning. Our job administration made a big mistake, which means we won´t be having any money next month. No money to pay the rent, no money to pay our energy bill, no money to pay the telephone & Internet and no money to buy such unimportant things as food.

I will have to undertake legal action against them, and I am sure I will win this case, but it takes minimum 4 weeks to get settled. Our love for each other will not be enough to feed Petra and me.

I am pretty desperate! I will have to sell my MRR stuff for close to nothing, just to get something to eat.

Time to leave this planet.

Good morning. It's 54° and cloudy. The high will be 68° and it'll be mostly cloudy. There's a 20% chance of rain.

Today I'm going to see if I can get my parents yard mowed. That of course depends on whether the tractor will start. It still has an old battery on it. When the blades and cutting belt were replaced earlier this month it had to be jumped with a 55 amp charger. I'd like to get it done today as the forecast for the next two or three days calls for rain. No plans concerning the layout today. I'm going to be pretty sore after mowing the yard and anything concerning trains will be of minor consequence.

Morning All,

At w**k today. High is supposed to be 80F with rain most the day. The Daytona race may not happen again today. Last night MOH tried to recreate the great flood. She left the water running in a plugged sink. We ended up with enough water on the tile floor (thankfully it was tile) that I needed a wet vac to get most of it up. Went to bed at 8:30 PM then woke up at 3:30 AMSigh then tossed and turned until 6 AM.

Garry- Nice pic of the Shark.

Rob- Glad you will be getting some help on the farm.

Lee- From what I know those are appropriate LVL containers. I have looked at pics of the actual cars and the F&C kit looks very close. I want to get that kit also but with what I am doing on the layout  I can't afford it right now. I did see a set of the containers (kit) on Ebay last night. Not sure how the price compares to F&C though. I believe the truck train cars started in the early 50's ( I want to say 1951 or 52). I looked at them previously but they were out of the time frame I model. The LVL car would be appropriate for the 40's. You can get decals for the containers from Mt. Vernon Decals (I believe that is the name). Unfortunately I don't have access to my saved favorites or data bases when I am at work.

Everyone take care.

Curt, so those were used mostly for LCL commodities?  The F&C cars you want; make a list and send it to me.  The F&C table at the train show in March normally sells them buy one get one free or something next to impossible to understand like buy one, get the second one 50% off then pick 1 free item from this side of the table.

I’m trying to find a little history on the different containers used in freight service pre 1959.  PRR had several variations including the TOFC (TTX was incorporated in 1955).

I’m getting ready to mold DD-1 containers if you’re interested.  I print my own decals, I downloaded a few pictures from the web this weekend and I think I have a good layout for the containers.  I made 6 DD-1’s out of clay and baked them in the oven and glued them into a box.  Now I’m waiting for the molding rubber and I should be good to go.

Well, now you can join the club of the not-haves! not fun is it? Not that you haven't been far from it already. We are so far behind on bills and I am only paying minimums to get by and MOH is working more hours than before we got into the current mess we are in, but we never seem to catch up lately. Sorry to hear of your troubles, but many of us over here are in the same boat! The USA economy is hurting now just as the Euro economies are! Persue your case ardently!

NO it;s not! What would Petra do without you? What would WE do without you? If you disappear now we can assume you are without Internet for the month, but if you never came back...well we WOULD miss you!!!.

Folks, this is so ridiculous! The German economy will have its best year since a long time and there is no job for an experienced guy like me, who is prepared to work for just a little more than peanuts!

I am feeling so bad these days.

Yesterday, I called my father and ask him to help us out until the case is settled. I was turned down! Can you imagine that? What good is a family when they don´t support each other in bad times? Still I am the one who rushes to their place when they need help.

Sorry guys, I have to stop here - the tears are running down my cheek.

We have 100s of high paying jobs out here, nothing under $10/hr, many much more. Problem is there is no housing of any sort whatsoever. Housing *is* rather important in the frosty climes of North Dakota.

Morning,

Lee- Thanks for the offer. I will PM you later in the week. Yes the boxes were less than full loads. Was the school shooting close to Euclid?

Ulrich- Please keep your chin up. You have a lot of people rooting for you. MOH 's family I wouldn't even call a family. MOH and her sister lost both their parents as teenagers and the rest of the family would have nothing to do with them.

Prayers for the injured children and their families.

Good Morning Modelers!

Work is starting to slow down again so I have a bit more time to spend time here with friends.  It's 26F here today and once again they are talking about snow falling tonight.  It's already the 2nd most snowiest February in history here and if we officially get another 2.1" before the month is over we break the 1912 record.

Have a great day everyone, time to make my rounds.

Coffee refill, please.

Well, so far this fella is already over 45 minutes late. That doesn't sit well in my book. Is he on some kind of real laid back southern time or what? In all my jobs, had perfect attendance and was always on time, except 3 times when exhaustion kept me from hearing the alarm clock, and that was ove many many years. And one time the Dr ordered me not to work when I had a severe case of mono with liver involvement. If this guy is desparare for work, he sure hasn't shown it to me. If a sick guy like me can get up and be ready to work...Rant over!

Hello

Loin-yes he did advertise in MR (thats how I found him) and on the radio. If you look up harbor springs Mi you will find that its not in between anything. You have to be going there to get to it, so there isn't much traffic.

And no I don't live there. there is another hobby shop in Traverse city which is much larger (Town and Hobby Shop)

Mornin' everyone!

Yeh, since we will be moving in a couple days, I figured I should switch back to English early.....  Zoe, I'll have a Raisin Bran w/ fresh churned butter and a few cups of dark roast coffee in my R&GV RR mug.  I'll sit in the front booth and stare at the dull outside for a while.

It is 39°F outside here in the Finger Lakes on its way up to 45° later this afternoon.  What little "partly cloudy" we got over the weekend is almost gone and will be no more by early afternoon....

Ulrich....................  I am speechless......  My heart breaks for you and Petra.  Somehow you will make it through, I know.  Check with churches and local pantries for help....  I sure hope you don't end up selling that beautiful little layout to be able to just eat.  Sigh  Wish you weren't so far away!

I will be tied up with MLK business most of the day today and tomorrow.  I'll be checking in from time to time.

Morning all, some kind of super healthy smoothie you can whip up please Zoe?

The weather is going to hover in the mid-50s during the day and drop to 32 by late tonight. I'm tempted to take my bike out except *cue the music* I need a new tube! Who'd have thought that one tube would last two years or more? I gave up the Panaracer racing/training tires on my bike about 2-years ago for some hard-core Continental Gatorskins, and slime-filled tubes, which have been great, just great. I do miss the light-weight, speed and handling edge the Panaracers and lightweight inner tubes have but I do not miss the frequent flats!

Ulrich... I'm saddened to hear of this development! The state of the world economy hurts ever more of us with little recourse but the kindness of others. I know you'll make it through this mess.
