Ooooooh free food! Thanks Terry. But I'll just have some mac and cheese with some unsweetened ice tea and a side of corn bread.  Thanks still on the clock you know (actually not - as boss I have the privilige of being a "celery man" - there's a Nissanism for you). Tongue Tied

***Terry, nice haul there, especially the B.N.Yes

Off to do critter rounds early and find something to drop in the coyote access hole I found.

Nice haul Terry.

At last it is done! And that cold wind didn't help either. I got the wires run through the firewall, up under the dash to the space where the radio used to be and hooked them up to the switch in the siren/airhorn unit. I made sure all the connections were to my liking then wrapped them up with thick electrical tape. One of my neighbors turned up about that time and asked if the connections were twisted or held with crimp connectors. I could've slapped him! Crimp connectors? Crimp connectors! Heck no! They were bathed in acid-free paste flux, twisted together and soldered! The place I brought the wires through the firewall is a rubber drain plug. I punched two holes in it with a screwdriver then passed the wires through. Once I was finished moving the wires I closed the holes up with JB Weld. Now that everything was connected it was time for a test. I had the siren switch set to off. I turned the key and nothing. As I expected. I turned the switch on and turned the key and the relay worked as it should. I started the engine then shifted the tranny to reverse. The relay clacked and the starter gear smacked into the flywheel. I put it back in park. I had expected that. I would've been surprised if it didn't do it. So, this time I turned the siren switch off then shifted the tranny to reverse. No banging, no grinding, everything was normal. So from now on it's turn siren switch on, start engine, turn siren switch off. That's that problem out of the way.

Better go with decaf, please.

***Jeffrey, congrats on tackling that job. Only wish you lived closer so I could hire you to fix my truck and make it reliable.

Had to do a few more farm chores than I felt like this evening. All done now, so it's R&R for the rest of the evening. The low will be 20F here tonight and no wood stove yet...shame on me!

Good Evening

We ended up with 8" of the dang stuff out here..and our high turned out to be lower than this mornings temperature..all of 6F with a windchill of -10F...

GMT:  I was using a special HEPA mask here..I just coughed because I took the dang thing off when I was typing the post out upstairs.....dust travels I guess

Speaking of dust...we ended up vacuuming the house 3 times today to get rid off the stuff..never again will I use grout in this form again..

Floor Wars, London ON division, pt 3...next up...the entrance....

Terry: Nice haul!!

Tom:  good to hear the wife is on the mend

Ray:  Wonderful set of badges there!!

Chloe, I'll have a coffee for now please..I'll be at te corner booth closest to the pot bellied stove...

Afternoon, Chloe - I'll have a RBF and a bowl of potato soup please. Thanks! (Sorry, my Japanese reading or speech is rusty-to-non-existent...)

Yep, Jeff, I agree with your postponing your van repairs, with the weather lately - feels like Johnboy and Barry left the door open on the south side of their houses! [brrrr!!!] We actually (air temp) made it to 31 F today - but then it's gonna drop to 19 F tonight (and wind chills into single digits - double BRRR!!). We've been having 'breezes' in the 25-30mph range today, so it definitely reminds us that winter has returned. At least it'll kill off some smart alec mosquitos that might've poked their noses out when it was warm in the last week or two. Thumbs Up Oh, we only got a light dusting of the white stuff last night - we'll see what we get in the next day or so...Whistling

Guess I must be one of those MIA's I saw mentioned lately. Sorry for being out so long (didn't start out to be away that many days..). There've been a few things going on, MRR'ing/w**k/and otherwise.

On the MRR front, I decided that my background building (Acme Manufacturing Co.) wasn't long enough, so I used Walthers modular parts to build an 'office annex' for part of the excess space.Have it fairly well along, still need to weather the brickw**k, paint the doors and windows and put them in place, and put the roof on (two pieces, so that will take some fancy coverup...). I had at first built a wider 'office' for the space, but it was too deep to fit in there, so I built another one (skinnier). I will likely find another place for the first one. Also, I have three ATSF boxcars (1 plug and 2 regular doors) coming from a 'bay seller.

Warning: (rant]

On the w**k front, things have been a'changin'... Got a write-up at w**k for supposedly not seeing my fair share of clients at walk-in (not true, but I have voiced my 'concerns' because some of the people up front seem to be routing the clients by default to me first. Anyway, I was rather shocked. My (immediate) supervisor said he suspects the write-up (from non-clinician, via someone a couple of levels up the food chain) is somebody's way of getting back at him (through his team members). Well, yesterday afternoon, I got a phone call (I was off due to being on-call the night before) from my immediate supervisor to let me know firsthand that he gave them two weeks' notice that he is leaving. Oh yeah, oart of my write-up is that I am supposed to give them a plan for how I will be changing my behaviors in the next 60 days (with implied threat if I don't change). Time to re-examine my options...Bang Head In an all-staff meeting/training on Thursday, they were talking about 'hostile work environments', and I was thinking of a slightly different application of that concept... So some things may be changing, indeed. Had me doing some number-crunching with my S.Sec. benefits...Sigh Sure glad I have my friends here and elsewhere away from w**k. Thumbs Up (Sorry for 'expressing myself'...) Smile, Wink & Grin "This too shall pass..." [rant off]

Good to see all the layout photos and all that you've been posting (Terry, Curtis, Ulrich,-cute li'l steamer thereSmile...)! Oh, and Broadway, liked your forum topic on barns - my ex-inlaws had a barn, but it was for pigs... - and when the wind was from the barn toward their house, you could tell it, too!Dead

Garry, have 'em change out the battery so your ticker-tocker keeps a'going! Yeah How are they coming along with the bridge repair on your lake? Haven't seen as much about that on our news since they moved the boat away from the bridge piers to continue the cleanup.

Ray, awesome haul on those RR/Scout patches! Thumbs Up I only have a few (OA and a couple others)

Ken, glad to hear that you will get some relief from B of S's stupidity. Yeah  They ought to have to eat the cost of their shenanigans of messing around with those who have/had home loans through them.Thumbs Down Hope things with your job are evening out/improving some.

Barry, has your lake shrunk any since you posted about the sump pump? Hopefully so!

Tom (Wright), good to hear you and your wife are nearing the close of that chapter. I'm sure she is definitely ready to get on with her life!

Todd, have the Floor Wars shifted over to now being the (Major) Appliance Wars? Wink

Rob, get rested up - and don't wear yourself out there. Remember that the coyotes might just be circling around back behind you while you're chasin' em down! Oops

Terry, thanks for your layout (and street) photos - and it looks like you had an excellent trip to the train show! Thumbs Up Good to see there are still plenty of Blue Boxes out there. Big Smile

This afternoon, I went by JCP to get another pair of pants. Almost regretted it when I left the store through the mall court entry (sheesh! such a bunch of people!). Went by B&N, but didn't find any books I couldn't live without. Also, went online and ordered an enclosure and a replacement hard drive (clearance sale, but new) for the dead one in my iMac. After I get my tax return printed out (getting a refund - YAY!), I will see about opening up the iMac to swap out the dead drive for the one I ordered.

Well (frozen over and with some white dusting on the edges), about time for me to head for home. Seems funny for Barry's backyard to have water earlier when we're getting the white stuff, but I see he's catching up now...

AngelAngel for good heaters for those in the colder areas, for continued healing, and a good night's rest for all you Diners.

Blessings,

Jim in Cape G.

JimRC:  It has shrunk a lot since..mind it is now all ice out there..the kids in the neighbourhood were skating in the neighbours back yard...he ended up with most of the lake....as far as the water in the basement..it just got to a tiny little stream that went straight for the pump access...heeheehee

Rob: Sorry I can't help you. I'm not all that great a mechanic though. Just a talented shade-tree.

Jim: You're right about putting off fixing the problem. It's not due to the weather however. I have no burning desire to pull that steering column out and rebuild it. I didn't fix the problem. I merely took away it's mechanism for causing trouble. Sort of like taking a hammer away from a wanton child so he can't smash his toys.

Evenin' folks!

"It's a lovely day today....."  Ah Janie, I could sure use a cup of decaf right now...  I'll be in the back booth by the stove.

Just checked the weather channel web page.  Looks like the Finger Lakes may get between 4" and 7" of blowing drifting "partly cloudy " tomorrow.  Of course my son and his wife are having a party for his MIL's Birthday tomorrow evening.  If I go, I will probably stay on the main road through Waterloo and then back track the few hundred yards out of town where my son lives.  Hey. I may get to start up THAT machine sitting on my porch THAT burns fossil fuels and pollutes the neighborhood with noxious fumes for a while.  FUN!

Back to my trains....

TERRY- Did you once live in the KEYS ?  Then move to Texas?

Everyone with a Gov. S.S. Card, Mastercard, check your account. We just got hit with a fraudulent charge. Be very cautious.

Very belated Welcome to those who don't know me. Been here since the beginning but not been posting because of my job and personal problems. I  am in constant touch with a bunch of the members.  Love to see all the pictures you folks post. Wish I had the talent of Jeff, Terry, Der, Curt. and so many others. I look at my B.B. RR [BareBones] -No nothing but track and nine turnouts that all work and wonder how I can myself a modeler.LOL

Anyway, Prayers and blessings to all. Warm regards to those that know me.

Evening All,

Sitting here after getting back from the club. Had a good time tonight. Next week is going to be busy for me at work and other commitments that I have. It's supposed to get down to the 30's in the morning with a high in the 50's, but don't worry by Wednesday it will be 80 F again.

Ray- Don't let the guys give you a hard time. I like a neat space also, probably a touch of OCD, OK more than a touch.Whistling

Tom- I'm glad your wife is doing so well.

Terry- I agree nice haul.

Flip- Don't sell yourself short. If you put down track and turnouts and run trains you are a Model Railroader. I have learned and completed everything in the last 13 months. I also had a fraud against me 2 weeks ago and my bank caught it before I did. Luckily the bank covered it.

Jeff- I'm glad you got the van working again.

Hope everyone has a good night.

Good Evening All,

32 and a wind chill so nothing done on the trailers today and probably not tomorrow either when we're not supposed to get above the 20's. Right now I'm trying to glue rail to the viaduct with Gorilla Glue. I'll let you all know how THAT worked tomorrow when i declamp it. Supposed to bond metal and plastic so we'll see, eh?

Sorry you got hacked Flip. There's been a lot of that lately and we keep vigiliant all the time. With the stuff we need to get all over  the place we probably have more issues than most. I never see where they catch any of these folks either. I keep wondering if the CC companies just figure it's part of keeping the cards easy to use and don't look that hard for the perps. Hope your situation works out .  J.R.

Evenin' again!

Janie, need a refill om the decaf please.

Curt, Neat....???  Not me, my friend!  Any time a person comes to my house, the first order of business is to appologize for the mess.  I tell them to please ignore the mess and then say that it doesn't always look this bad.  Then I tell them it is usually much worse!  I have also told people THAT when I die and they have the service at church for me, I really could care less to have some get up in the pulpit and say, "I knew Ray well!  He was such a good housekeeper....!"  What Curt was talking about is THAT I took a little ribbing in the WPF thread after posting this photo of the layout room readied for painting the floor...

I replied with this photo:

Need to go feed the wood stove, so I'll call it a night here...

Prayers to all in need.....

J.R.,Thanks. Curt and I  ,tonight are in for Low 30's. Thankyou to our DARNYANKEE friends. lol

Wow,two posts in one day

Curt ,you are correct. Each of us has our own set of talents and do what we can. I've tried my hand at trees, buildings and other RR things. At least I have been able to put kits together and have my trains run and switches turn the turnouts. Two left hands and 8 thumbs make modeling difficult.

Y'all stay warm and be careful with your heat source.

Night folks

Time for me to call it a night. It's been a taxing, tiring day. I'm sure many people could have handled the work on the van quite easily. For me it was hard work. Well, see y'all tomorrow.

Chamomile tea & a small bowl of mixed nuts, please.

***Jeffrey, that's a great layout pic. Really like the lighting on it.

***Lion, another neat pic there.

Still entirely tuckered out and sore. Temps will be in the teens here. Kinda wishing I had worked on those tiles for the stove project. Heats on, but it will cost me. My own fault.

Have a good night all.

Welcome to the Diner!
Posted by Heartland Division CB&Q on Saturday, February 11, 2012 11:31 PM

Good evening everybody.

JimCG ... Thanks for commenting. ... They do not simply replace the battery; they replace the entire device. Some of the leads might be replaced at the same time. I may have a year to go before then, and this will be my fifth surgery for my heart condition. I'm very glad the treatments allow nearly normal life.

Jeff ... As I have said, you are an inspiration to the rest of us as you keep chugging along doing so many things in spite of serious health problems. Everybody should look up to you for that.

Flip ... It is good to see you here in the diner again. Big Smile

Ray .... I like those Boys Scout patches. I enjoyed it when I served as Cubmaster. My Burlington books have photos of special trains to the Jamberie in Colorado Springs about 50 years ago. Many trains had an SD9 MU'ed with Burlington E-units along with old heavyweight passenger cars from various roads. The E-units needed the SD9 to assist on the grades from Denver to Colorado Springs.

Ken .... It's great of you to take time froim your busy work schedule to be a friend in the Diner. Smile, Wink & Grin

Rob ... I hope you are doing okay there.

I ran some trains today instead of just working on the layout. Meanwhile, I am deciding what additional downtown buildings I need for the city. So far, I have made ten of them including one 13-story building and one 10-story building. ..

Curt ... You recently asked about photos, and I may get around to that. I don't normally photograph unfinished stuff, but I have done some.

Terry ... I like your selection of freight cars you acquired. My layout is before the BN merger, and my fictional CB&Q division has running rights agreements allowing GN and NP to operate on my CB&Q tracks.

Cheers, everybody!

Whistling

I have moved this from another post I made earlier today.  I didn't know if the Lion would find it there. So please forgive me for this repetition.

Brother Elias,   In regard to the BARN.

This maybe a moot point, but, has anyone there considered approaching the North Dakota Heritage association??

By being on such a well kept property it may indeed fall into a category that there is some funding available  to preserve it.

It is truly a shame to tear down such a beautiful, structurally sound structure. Everything that we can see is so square and upright.

Surely the Abbott, loves history and could be convinced of the worth of such a preservation, or how about a restored facility as previously mentioned to host activities associated with retreats etc.?

In this layman's opinion it should stay for all future generations to admire both architecturally and from the construction history.   My vote would be to keep it in place.

Well it is bed time and it looks like i am the only one left in the diner tonight.   Probably to cold for a lot of folks, so hopefully we'll see them tomorrow.

Night all

*Door blows open with a gust of cold air and snow flurries..

"Not a fit night out for man or beast"  Argh~  Just when you least expect it,  a blast from the past blows in.  Oh I come by every now and then to read whats going on.  I remember you all.. as if it was yesterday.. Chris.. you and your dog.. Jeff.. Ray.. of course Todd and Der John and darn I forget.. the one with the hopped up cars.

Well I'm doing much better than the last time I drop a note and said  Hello I was .. Just O.K.  Losing your business.. going under../ bankrupt.. losing tons of money.. well its almost so devistating .. I could bare to answer all the questions.  Enough to make you lay awake in bed.. and not be able to sleep.  But in short.. in answer to some questions back then... most of the family members had all chipped in.. way back when and we bought a Hotel.  It was a special hotel..those of you that remember me.. well I love dogs and cats.  This hotel was a hotel that would allow you to bring you dog.  Some ppl would not travel unless they could bring their dog.  So we were a special hotel.

Now as far as my layout goes.. well its been over 3 years now.. and I'm still buiding on the same layout.  I work on it everyday.. and its finally coming about .. and who knows..  I might be able to lay track.. lol.. I always say that.  Thats what I get for building a large layout.

I just wanted to say thank you all for your support.. and the fine nice letters some of you wrote me.  It was very comforting.  In fact, I read some of them.. over.. it was very heart warming.  I just wanted to say Thank You~

Blown Out Cylinder.. and Ulrich.. now how could I forget you two.. and I'm sure a few others.  Ulrich.. ond of my dearest friends.. I felt your pain as well.  I have kept a record of all my building on my layhout.  I still remember you saying you would like to see some do a thread from start to finish.. well I have been taking pics for 3 years now.  I've documented my work and I always think of you saying that.

Blown out cylinder...  I just wanted to tell you .. that El Camino I got from my dad.. well its a Rip Roarin Machine now.  It actually came with an Oldsmobile Rocket engine in it.   I pulled the old carb and replaced it with something better.. lol.  Now when you punch it.. you feel the four barrel kick in.. God its such a blast to race someone.   Just from a roll, at a signal.. and just hoping the next guy is wanting to race.  Every piece of rubber has been replaced.  Every gasket.. and everything you could possibly imagine inmaking that engine brand new.  Well the engine only has 27 thousand miles on it.. but everything did ahve to be replaced.

Ray,  I think of you everytime I place my head visors on..  (just like yours) and just like you.. most ppl see me with them on.  I forget they are on my head.  I love those things... makes modeling so much easier.

Ok.. Good night all of you  God bless all of you~

To Shi Ba, Samurai-sama!

Good Morning!

Day 12 in Japan! I hope you are still enjoying it!

The predicted snow did not come, just a little dusting of less than an inch. Temperatures are supposed to rise above freezing, with rain to come, which means icy roads tomorrow. I am glad I win´t have to go anywhere, maybe just a little shopping to do.

Keith - I am really glad to hear from you! Man, was I worried! Too bad your business is gone and you suffered such a big loss. We have been through this for three years now. It may sound pathetic, but we have learned that the riches of this world don´t mean a thing, if you still have friends. I have lost all my former so-called friends but one, but I have found new ones, right here in the forum. Hang in there, better times will come, I am sure.

Jeff - Bow to what you are able to do with your van. I am totally lost when it comes to auto mechanics and electrics - which makes my garage happy. My little Renault is starting to develop problems. It needs new shocks, a new clutch and a quite a few other things. I don´t have the funds to do all these repairs, so no idea how long I can keep it running Grumpy

Ray - it´s no switcher, it´s a road engine. Tank engines were quite popular on short lines, especially narrow gauge lines. You hardly see a turntable at the end of a line over here.

Ken, Jim and all others with work issues - there seems to be a complete deterioration of work climate and ethics these days. Long gone are the times when we talked about human capital as the most important and valuable asset in a company. People have turned into a resource up to be wasted - there are plenty on the market to fill a gap, so they think. You and I are not going to change that, but we all see where we are heading - end of rant.

As we are nearing lunchtime here in Germany, I´ll just go for some coffee. Janie, if you please?

Have a good day!

Brrrr!!! Cold here,in the Sunny South. Gets below 50 and my old yankee bones feel it. 60 years in Fla. will do that to you.

Terry's 3 GN cars look to be all the same number. 27021. My only quirk is NOT to have the same numbers on my cars. Thats why I have 27021-22-23-24 and27026. Then jump to 27400 and then another 38 different cars and 5 engines. Then there are the BN's,BNSF,BNFE and the CB&Q.

It's a shame that in this hobby where friendship and help are a normal occurence every so often an Al or a Hector show up. Guess thats life. We don't know what good is till bad comes along.

Thanks again fot all the picture posts. I really enjoy looking at what you folks can do.[almost said all you guys then remembered SUE]

Blessings and Prayers for all.
