Curt Webb

Evening All,

Just got back from the hospital. After last night they decided to keep her another day. She is doing much better today and I expect to bring her home tomorrow. I want everyone to know how much I appreciate everybody's prayers and well wishes. This kind of support is what makes the Diner such a unique and wonderful place.

Curt...another prayer candle will be lit as long as we are home tomorrow for you two again. COntinued thoughts of healing go your way.

Well tomorow MOH goes to the Dr. to see about back that went out at work. Tomorrow is day off, and so I pulled a string to get in tomorrow.

My Dr. gave me  a new med to have as an alternative to migraine meds to try.

I have to see if I can get back into the CPR {Center for Pain Relief} for my back pain.

The nuerologist is foisting me upon the pain center for the migraines too. ANd I finally got them to delclare I should stop taking the medication that was making me dizzzy and light headed.

Yes, Todd...I can officially blame it on the medication!!! Though, now that we stopped it, I don't know what to blame it on. Being Dizzy that is. My Psychotropic medications? I'm sure my Psychiatrist has a full file "classified" on me....As many times as I have been hospitalized for  medication adjustments or changes in Psychotropics....I could blame them...they DO affect the CNS {Central Nervous System}.

Well, It is past my bedtime, I guess I am turning into a  night owl?? Like to be a morning song bird though.

I need to grocery shop for afew things tomorrow...I don't who will lift  and carry the water with both our backs out of whack. Need that new tractor to help!!!

CU tomorrow. when it is warmer! Then Firday and Saturday supposed to be inthe 40's !!!

say g'nite gracie.

G'nite Gracie.

good night Mrs. Calabash, where ever you are!

***Jeffrey, sorta like calling New Holland tractors "cute", because of their blue color. Good thing my Mahindra has that grapple, or it might be considered "cute", too.

Evening critter rounds are complete. Indoors now for the duration. A bit tuckerted out to hit the train room. Perhaps tomorrow.

***Jeffrey, that is a mighty cute (can I use that work?) little loco there.

Cute is OK here I guess but back when I was a kid it could get you nailed by the school bully. I put up with them until the last few days of school, then they got theirs, in spades.

Picked up 3 State cars on the-bay. They include N.J. (where I was born), AZ. (where I grew up) and the third I'll sell off. All I need now is WA. & GA. to represent where I've lived. Have no idea why I decided to do this. Already feel buyers remorse. Maybe I'll just turn around and sell all three cars off. Pretty sure I would some make money beyond the original purchase.Hmm

Lee: Nice to know you're improving. I hope all goes well and you can get your life back to normal. I have more than a little insight on how medical problems can screw that up. All my best and Angel for a full recovery.

I received a box in the mail today. It contained a small steam loco and tender and a single coach. Thet were made by Fleischmann I'm guessing in the mid 70's. The loco runs though it's a bit rocky. The loco has a name on it: Betty. The tender number is 110. On the coach is the numeral 3, Ansbach, 049033 Nurnberg. As I remember Ansbach and Nuremberg are about 25-30 miles apart. So this would have been a nice little passenger shuttle between them. I saw similar locos during my time in Germany but none just like it.

Well I survived having the stent removed.  The Doc just pulled the threads and it came right out with some burning and a sharp pain.  It was less uncomfortable than I had imagined it would be.  The stent was a tube, about the size of aquarium air hose just over a foot long with a curl on each end that held it in place.  I’m once again pissing blood and it burns but not as bad as after surgery.  The burning and bleeding should stop in 48 hours.

I’m able to go back to work on Monday “limited duty” but I have another exam on the 15th to check to make sure the infection has cleared up and to test my thyroid. The infection is from the stent and is completely normal. Once we do all that we will discuss a new diet to prevent stones in the future.

Good Evening!

Flo, just a light dinner for me, how about a nice & juicy steak, medium rare, fries, a mixed salad and a Beer, please.

Made it through the day - somehow. Went shopping with Petra, just a mid-week grocery run, nothing else. We made it back in time before the rain came back. Now we are getting ready for the second winter storm of this year - it is predicted not to be as bad as last night´s. I hope the roof will hold again. Storm

Rob - nice little tractor you´ve got there. Need a farm hand?

Coffee refill, please.

Just came in from doing some outside chores. Horses (with help from goats) already went through the last hay bale, so it was time to test the new tractors capabilities. Wouldn't want a heavier load though.

Then collected up a few logs still sitting around from the tornado and started a small pile elsewhere.

Still feeling a little clutsy at times, but haven't hit anything with it.

Curt - I'm so glad that the surgery went well for your wife. Hoping she returns home quickly and enjoys a speedy recovery.

With all this talk about auto repairs, I suppose I'll add my two cents. I quit going to chain garages at least 30 years ago for exactly the reasons Ken is referring to. They seem to think every customer is completely stupid and willing to agree with some of the dumbest explainations one could ever hear. I only return my car for repairs to the dealership where I bought the car. I know, I know, some will say they charge too much, but I disagree. Yes, the labor rates might be higher, but whatever needs corrected is usually done in quick order, and done right. They also usually know the cause of the problem right away in my experience, rather than guessing and changing a half dozen parts before getting lucky and correcting whatever is wrong. Anyway, that's my experience and I'm sticking to it.

There was enough of that white stuff in the driveway and walks last night to fire up the snow blower. But my goodness, was I cold. It was 9 degrees without considering the wind chill factor, which I'm sure sent the temperature below zero. I thought I was ready for winter, but I guess not.

Recieved my US Army GenSet from Atlas and a Lake Erie, Franklin & Clarion boxcar from ExactRail this week. Both are very nice with the boxcar being very nicely detailed. The GenSet runs well, but has a little growl to it. I did run it for over an hour in both directions, but it's still there. I can live with it.

Hope everyone has a good one... Tom

Mornin' everyone!

Zoe, I'll have a short stack of buttermilk pancakes and a side order of bacon to go along with the dark roast coffee in a FGLK mug!  Please and Thank You Ma'am!

Can't believe there are a bunch of guy's playing the pipes outside this morning...  Huh?  I counted 11.

Todd, I don't know if it is true or not, but the story about the 10 Lords a-Leaping was supposedly from a scandal in the House of Lords back then.  Some things never change.....  Often times in Merry old Englad which did not practice "freedom of Speech",  anti establishment ideas were put into children's nursery rhymes and other such things as children could sing them on the streets and wouldn't be prosecuted like adults would be......  Jack Horner (not his real name) was the Chancellor of the Exchequer and was involved with some, uh...  Lost funds (shall we say).

"We're Havin' a Heat Wave, Tropical Heat Wave....."  Currently 18°F outside here in the Finger Lakes Region this morning.  Had enough coals left in the wood stove to relight the fire easily so THAT is cranking out the heat for the place.

Waiting for a lady to pop by and pick up materials for the MLK Art and Poetry Contest.  She is the Wife of the President of Hobart and William Smith colleges here in town.  She helps out with an after school program done with our Middle/High School and Hobart College. I then have to deliver some flyers for the MLK Service to the Schools and a few other places around town, do some grocery shopping, and then get ready for a Scout Meeting tonight!  Guess I won't be spending much hobby time downstairs today.......Grumpy

Curt, prayers for your wife (and you).  Hope the rest of her recover is uneventful!

Later!

 Morning Folks

 Flo, Coffee please.

Todd On $225.00 to mount 2 tires. First they where 235 35 18's, they can be a real pain to mount. Plus they had TPM's sensors (rebuild kit $7.00 each) and she was sold life time balancing and 5 year alignment package, that was $170.00. So we really charged $55.00 to mount the 2 tires.

On the rotors, I do now they ware out faster than they use to. Many new ones out of the box is only .010 over discard. They are making them thinner to cut down on weight. I all so know that a few are pressed on, or you have to remove the wheel hub to get to the rotor. But most all you do is pull the caliper and pull the rotor the off, some have two screws that hold them on. Yet we still charge $99.00 to slip on the new rotors?

Oh well, guess that is the cost of keeping the doors open.

 See you all later

Evening all. I'll just have a flat white cawfee, thanks.

I want to thank everyone for their well wishes and prayers. The visit to my Grandmother was great. She had a really "up" day today, seeing our whole family made her day. Turns out my uncle and his two kids were up there visiting as well. Having a close family is really helping her.

In other health news my 'sister' in law (younger brothers fiancee) went to the ER tonight with chest pains. They are keeping her in over night for some scans. Its nothing too serious we hope.

No layout or modelling work today as it has been pretty full on, I do plan on visiting the LHS to get some couplers tomorrow.

EDIT: Looks like I've got top. Have at it folks.

Cheers

My Brother repairs automobiles in North Carolina. He prides himself on having the HIGHEST shop price in town. If another shop would dare to charge more, he will simply raise his prices.

He only works on Foreign cars: All of his tools are metric, and he does not have any American manuals in his shop. If someone comes in with an old clunker he has never seen before he will triple his estimate on the presumption that he will find other things that he will want to repair. His thinking is that if a customer brings his car in, he wants it to work when he drives out. There is always hidden stuff in there that you will find when you look more closely. (Besides, he does not want to work on old clunkers)

His customers have been with him for 30 or more years, and even dealers will send customers to his shop if they cannot figure out what a car needs. When a customer comes to his shop, they know that they will be treated correctly. And even with the highest shop rates and 100% mark up on parts he is still the best deal in town because he is honest.

Good morning. It's 41 and partly sunny. It's looking like the high will be 62 and it will still be partly sunny.

Sometime today I'll be going down to my parents place and clear all the yogurt cups out of both of their refrigerators. When I was putting stuff away after dinner last night I noticed the dates on a lot of them had expired by a long ways and I think I heard some discussion from the cups near the back about kicking out the mayo, butter and some other things. Yeah, definitely time to move them out. And if I can get some time for myself today I may be able to start on painted that junkyard scene.

Good Morning All,

14F this morning and it was single digits last night. all the cars started this morning (yeah!). Still searching for the source of the leak(s) in the dining room ceiling. Found one cross threaded drain fitting on a tub and some staining around that plus a small wet spot adjacnt to another drain but between the original sub floor and the new sheathing so it's traveling from elsewhere. The drain is hard up agains tone of the ceiling joists so THAT will entail some chisel action to get clearance. I cut some inspection holes in the wall upstairs to look for the source of the second wetness so wish me luck.

Lee - speaking of luck good luck today with the "removal"

Curt - Glad the surgery went well and hope your wife has a speedy recovery with no more scares.

Jeff - not sure what looks meaner there, you or the van....

Todd - I don't turn the rotors unless they have real grooves and ridges but I do knock off the high spots on the inner and outer edge of the pad contact patch just in case the pad configutration is slightly differen (not that it ever happens, right Whistling).  On all the trucks we now use cryoed rotors to stop the warping.

Back in the shop to finish up the radiator ducting so we can ship the car to the panel beaters and carry on with other stuff (like more wiring).  Catch Y'all later, J.R.

Good Morning!! Coffee and an order of Biscuits and gravy please. I’d also like a couple biscuits with butter and a jar of Sorghum. Thanks.

Sunny, with a high near 43.

Just checked my tracking and to my surprise my guitar is scheduled for early delivery today. It hit Springfield this morning at 1238 (0038) and as of 0547 is “out for delivery”. Oh Joy.

Ken- Sorry hoss. (shakes head) at least you can sleep because of your actions. Even if theirs keep you up. Again I’m with Ray. Cost isn’t always the issue when it comes to a trusted mechanic. When I say that I don’t mean just put anything on, I mean if they charge a bit more but the w**k is good and I trust them to do what you did, tell me the truth and do only what is needed, then it’s worth a bit more change. By the way, was it $225 just to mount and balance the tires? Please say no. I’m about to fall out of my chair.

Ray- LaughI shall never hear that song without giggling again!!! “ten Lords a leaping…” (giggle) see it’s happening already.

Dennis- We have two computers. Three actually if you count the wife’s laptop. HmmWhich I suppose you would. Anyway, her laptop’s one of them wifi things so we have to have a wireless router and of course the other desktop just haaaas to be on the internet too so that necessitates a wireless router. Mine is hrd lined to it as is the other desktop. It’s the router that is the issue and it not only happens on this site. Turns out this isn’t an uncommon thing I found out.

G- So it’s been the medicine all this time?Wink

Curt- Glad to hear all is as well as can be.

Ken- Well in defense of the rotor thing (to a point). With todays harder pads, they do grind into a rotor much more than they used to unless they use the cheaper softer pads, though they wear out faster. A rotor can only be turned down so far before you get through the hardened surface. Many times the rotor cannot be turned to allow a safe margin for the predicted life of the pads. Myself unless the rotor is warped, I don’t worry about the grooves and ripples as long as they aren’t too big. And this is a judgement call on MY vehicle. I usually replace the rotor after the second set of pads or if it feels warped through the pedal. However from a business standpoint, turning a rotor to remove all grooves is probably the prfered methd and not just because it may take a rotor too thin. Appearance to the customer is important too. If they paid to have a rotor turned and it has grooves still in it, some would claim it wasn’t turned and you charged them for something you didn’t do. Explaining it doesn’t work because they take it in such a way that you would just seem to be feeding them a line. I of course, only charge about $10or $20 dollars labor to replace a rotor if it’s the slip on kind where I have to remove the caliper bracket. If I don’t have to remove the bracket, then I don’t charge at all. If it’s attached more securely…. Then it’s more if I do it at all.

I only charge $10 an hour too. BUT I have no overhead, no insurance no, employees AND I’m not trying to feed a family off my earnings either. It’s pretty much just beer money. Also the more I’m out of working on cars the farther I get behind on what’s going on and the less I do. My truck for instance, will probably go back to the dealer for all but the basic stuff like brakes and oil changes. AND as long as it’s under warranty, will probably have them do that too.

Things came up yesterday that kept me from cleaning up the dining room so we can put the furniture back. Imagine thatLaugh. So that will be my project for today I suppose. Of course I put the Church bookwork off til today so I could get the room done and of course one of the delivery trucks for the restaurant considered Monday a Holiday so they’ll deliver today….sometime. Odd they didn’t consider the Monday after Christmas a Holiday. Then again, they are from Chicago.

Yackity today I am. Best get movin.

Ya’ll have a Great Day!!!
