Mornin' everyone! Christmas is finally over and we are celebrating Epiphany here.
Zoe I'll have the #2 specila, over easy on the eggs, sausage patties, home fries, and a double order of Sourdough Toast please. Oh, yes, dark roast coffee in a FGLK Mug, please.
Todd, got to love it. THAT was what I thought the kid was going to tell me..... There was no foul language though. Not from the Mennonites! My FIL would have made the air blue in short order! Of course he was a plumber by trade.......
Garry, Model Airplane? Well, he did make one I believe... It was a model of a biplane he had made. Ah, THAT was 1/1 scale! Here is the model of it:
He also built this one (not absolutely sure this was the one Barney built, but the photo was taken at a nearby airport way back when). Pietenpol Air Camper:
He also had all the jigs down in his cellar to build a Piper Cub from Scratch. He used to rebuild them for other people (as well as his own). When I was first married, most every Sunday afternoon when the weather was good, Barney would fly his Piper over to our house. We would be sitting at the table in our little mobile home across the road from my parents house on the farm and we would suddenly hear, putt, putt, putt, putt, putt, putt, putt......... We would go outside, and sure enough, the piper was circling our place just off idle. We would wave, he would wave at us, cigar in hand (he always flew with the windows open), and then the throttle was opened up, she roared to life, and he was gone..... Those were good days!
This is Barney a few years ago on his 95th. birthday. He just heard a small plane go overhead....
He passed that year, still both an ornery curmudgeon, and one of the nicest guys you could ever know! We still miss him!
Oh, Todd... Nice Axe!
Have a great day!

It has been highly determined that CANCER causes CANCER. So stay away from it. I've had skin cancer caused by the sun. I wonder if all the times I was exposed to the Moon, if I will get cancer, too.
WEnt grocery shopping. Got out for under $100 for once. Mostly canned goods as they have a sale on canned goods going on now. Should be all the canned veggies and soup we need for the month. Now all I have to do is fit them in the pantry shelves. Need to halt the grocery budget til the card bill comes and is paid off. We should have enough of everything{?} to last the rest of the month and a good start on next month.
WEll, I think it is time for a nap.

***Todd, NICE 12 string. Always loved the sound they produce, when in the right hands. Oh, liquid filled tires. It hugs the ground with no hint of being light. Figured this little beast must weigh well over 7,000lbs as it stands, but can't tell you how much more than that. Yea, hay probably weighs around 1,000lbs.
***Johnboy, thanks for the chuckles!
***Lee, yes, thought about doing repaints. However, they still have the rapido couplers and I've already failed at finding replacement trucks that fit the various makes/models of cars. Soooo, I think it's time to simplify life and just replace them. Might get undecorated units and paint those to match the factory, a light pale green.
That's terrible about Woodland Scenics. They've made some nice products.

TMarsh Jeff- I was thrilled with my remote start on the new truck. Unfortunately, there are enough people around here that have it, by the time I got the new toy it was old news. Apparently I’m way behind on technology. Did you get the brake pedal modified yet? By the way, they found out a few years ago that saliva also causes cancer. But not to worry. Only if swallowed in small amounts over a long period of time.

It's a very mild day here in Pittsburgh, Temperatures are expected to be in the low fifties. An excellent opportunity to take the outside Christmas lights and decorations down. I have other things to do, but I don't want to freeze my fingers off later.
Not much new at our house. The wife will begin outpatient physical therapy on Monday. Because she is to stand and walk as much as possible, I convinced here that doing the dishes is a way of accomplishing both those objectives. Couldn't believe it, but she bought into it. YEAH.... I don't mind cooking, I just hate the clean up. However, now that I think about it, she agreed a little to quickly. Somehow or another, I bet I've been outfoxed again.

Good Morning!! Coffee and…….oh just coffee I suppose thank you. It smells funny in here. The sewer back up? Sunny, with a high near 59. Well, here’s the new guitfiddle. The 12 string on the right. The D-28 on the left is kinda jealous, but it’ll be short lived. Always happens when something new is brought in and gets most attention. Lee- I’m having less and less confidence in the Nursing Homes. Mom didn’t have good luck and neither did Brenda’s. I hope your Mom escapes the Scabies and gets out of there ASAP. Rob- Really. The bounce factor is what I was referring to. Do the rear tires have calcium in them? Of course the box blade will do well to offset the what, 1000lb bale, but the length it sets out there I figured would make for an easy nose dive. I thought about the ending possibly being the same as a similar event. A friend of mine a few years ago took his push mower up to a local repair shop in a nearby town in the late fall and the same thing happened. He heard nothing and came back in the spring to check. The guy looked and looked. Came back out and said “where did you leave it?” He told him by the overhead door out back like you told me. To which ole Cosby dropped his head and said..” well, (insert slang for excrement). I sold that a month ago.” He set him up with another, but we laugh about that from time to time. Sometimes when we drop off an item for him to fix, we say “you ain’t gonna sell that are you?” To which he usually offers to mate in a rather crude way if you catch my drift. Ya’ll have a Great Day!!!

Good morning. It's 59 and very foggy. A dense fog advisory is in place until 9 am. The high will be 72 and there's a 40% chance of rain all day. This morning I have my parents pampered pets (two very energetic poodles) to the groomers dor a clipping. That should take no more than an hour but is totally dependent on the cooperation of the dogs. They can be difficult to get along with at times. Not much happening otherwise. I worked on the little Fleischmann loco and coach last night. I removed the hook and loop couplers and replaced them with Kadee couplers in #242 draft gear boxes. Not as hard as I thought it might be. Like the old saying, hope for the best, plan for the worst. The couplers look a bit high but the gauge shows them to be right. Must be the small size of the units. The loco runs a little better but is still pretty rocky.
Good Morning
I see that richhotrain put some new information out that they are going to continue working in their one remaining building...it may put something of a clanger into one's supply line but it do look like they will be still around, which is a good thing. Glad to see that no one was injured...

We are going up to the might 44F today in a mix of sun and cloud ....and no snow or rain for the next few days...but we will be seeing the dull dull dull skies here...
Today I'l be spending it under my benchwork working on some new tortoises(tortoisii?) for my layout...heeheehee...
Flo, I'll just have a coffee please..I'll be at the RC for a bit..no, I won't say anything more about that, yes, ma'am ...no ma'am.....

Good Morning!
Yesterdays storm died down in the small hours of this morning. Although it was not as bad as the one before in terms of mph, it caused a lot more damage, but no loss of life. Right now it is calm with a clear blue sky, but temperatures are short of freezing only. There are birds singing outside. This is January!
Flo, a large mug of coffee, please. Still need to go lightly on the food.
Jeff - up until the early 1980´s, German Railways had coaches in use, which were built-ups on the chassis of pre-WW I 3-axle cars. They had padded seats, but the ride was something else.
The 2-6-0 loco you saw was most likely one of these:
It was nicknamed "Prairie Horse" and was the only 2-6-0 remaining in service after WW II.
Galaxy - I am really sorry to hear about your continuing back pain. Are you sure there is no further treatment? I do hope there is.
I will be going for a walk - making use of the nice weather as long as it lasts.
Have a good one!

***Garry, I'll try to remember next time I'm at Walmart and pick up a copy. And I agree, that's to much for a tank car. It will show me which (if any) of my current tankers might work. And I've never paid any attention to rivet counters.
Seriously considering selling off all the various old cars (w/ rapido couplers) and replacing them with a select few, upgraded models, specific to my layout industries. It seem like a better approach to MRRing (for me) these days. Just need to get up the energy to start taking pics of them and the motivation to list on the-bay.
Have a good night all. Rob
Evenin' folks!
Janie, just a decaf for me. I'll be in the back booth by the stove keeping warm.
One of my errands today was to drive down to near Penn Yan, NY to check on my sister's lawn mower. I assure you she doesn't need it right now, but since it has been in the repair shop for over 2 months with no word, I decided to go over and check it out. (Besides the truck hasn't been run in well over a month now and I figure the battery could use a good charging)
I walk in to the place (Mennonite business) and there is one young man helping a customer, so I hung back and waited for a while. After a few minutes the owner (guy about 30) comes out front and asks if he can help me. I tell him I hope so, and proceed to ask about my sisters lawn mower. His eyes get very wide and he says... "You brought it in when?!?" I told him again last week in October. He asks my name and proceeds to check out some things on the computer, all the time getting more upset and starting to hyperventilate a bit. He excuses himself and says he will be right back. 15 minutes later he reappears, white as a sheet and now definitely hyperventilating.... Starts going through a stack of old receipts he had under the counter. Grabs a different pile and goes through them, and finally without looking up says, "Here it is!" He breathed a large sigh of relief and handed me the bill. What do you suppose he charged me to completely repair the carburetor (again, they did this early summer only to have my sister put dirty gas back in it...)? Got a 10% discount because they listed it as "pre-season" maintenance. Would you believe $30 plus change? And that was the bill as he had it on file... Nothing due to the "lost" mower...
Think I know where I will buying my next Snow Blower next Fall. This guy has gone from a single small building a few years ago to 5 buildings. Pretty much a family business. Very pleasant and good to deal with!
Curt, Good to hear the good news about you wife. Hope her recovery continues to be smooth. Also hope your older pet skunk is OK!
Garry, I also have several old locos from my FIL. They will never run again, but will find homes on the SLOW soon. FIL was one of those crusty old guys that made you think he was one of the meanest guys you knew, except we all knew it was an act and he was really a gentle, caring family man. If you ever get to Hammondsport, NY, be sure to stop in at the Curtiss Aviation Museum there. Right in the middle of the old WWII huge rotary engines is a little tiny Model A FORD conversion for the Pietenpole Air Camper he built. He used to build small airplanes in the basement of his home. Used to love to watch him light his cigars with his acetylene torch.
Prayers for all in need, and a very blessed Epiphany to those who celebrate it.

Heartland Division CB&Q Jeff ..... I saw the photo you posted of the SD40, and said to myself, that was originally a CN unit. Snow shields behind the cab and bell placement were clues. I googled the locomotive, and yes, it was a CN unit. Looks good with Old Glory on it....... ooops ... Hello Canadians. .... I suppose the snow shields have little value in KCS territory.

What exact type of train cars would be used to transport raw sulfer by rail as if coming strait from a vulcano? Seems open ore cars transporting dry sulfer would be spewing sulfer dust as soon as the train started moving, unless it was in a covered car? And hot liquid sulfer would require some kind of tank car, although I don't know how it would be loaded on site? Dry sulfer would be easier (I think) to model. Would like to know options for transporting it from my vulcano to a nearby factory for processing, so any suggestions are welcome. Need to know what kind of train cars to get.
