Good morning. It's 47 and mostly cloudy. The high should be 63 and it will be partly sunny. Isn't that the same as mostly cloudy?Well I got a start on a couple of junk scenes. I still have to add bushes, weeds and some details.I also placed a couple of junk vehicles by an old freight shed. There's still two van boxes, a storage tank and a five vehicle junkyard scene to place. So much to do.

Morning Folks!
Flo, Diet Dew Please.
Todd Hope every thing goes OK South Of The Border for you!
Curt Plenty of left overs if you want to stop by for lunch. Glad the hear the wife is doing much better. Hope the new Vet works out as well.
Weather Is Changing and my wife is in a tizzy about it. Thursday High will be 27 and calling for snow, so Sue is flipping out? I don't understand why, she won't drive if there is any snow on the street's so why is she worried?
Galaxy I saw you live by Whole Sale.Com local outlet. Are they a reliable company t deal with?
EM 1 I have been trying to talk my self out of getting one, but I am starting to lose. Last night I was dreaming I had ordered one. Really would like to get one, I read Bachmann has hit it out of the park with this engine.
Type at you folks later.

Extra strong coffee in a UNION PACIFIC mug, please.
***C.N.Charlie, the HO layout is 90% Bachmann EZ-track. The N scale is all Unitrack thus far. And the track on both layouts was secured with drywall mud, so removal of any section(s) would be a messy endeavor.
Hey, caught another movie train wreck watching an old movie last night: "The Giant Gila Monster". Couldn't tell what kind of model they used, but the crash was pretty silly.

***Der, some very interesting photos on that site. That was one huge pile of hay. Really love the old cars. Nobody smiled for the camera back then.
Out one window is sunshine, out the other there is a severe storm and it sure looks dark. Been hearing the rumbles but it looks like it will skirt by the ol' farm here.
Mornin' everyone! I am sitting here typing with a 20lb. cat in my arms.
Zoe. I'll have a short stack of buckwheat pancakes with NYS Dark Amber Maple Syrup and a cup or two of dark roast coffee in a FGLK mug. Thanks Ma'am! I see Der and Rob are already on lunch! He must get up earlier than I do.........
Manét is not happy just sitting on my shoulder, he wants me to hold him upside down in my arms..........
Currently 41°F outside under sunny skies. The high is predicted to be 43°, but i bet it makes it to 45° easily. Getting a lot of solar warming inside with the sun, so the stove won't be lit until this afternoon sometime.
Hey Lion, did you see this one! http://abcnews.go.com/GMA/video/little-girl-stares-down-lion-at-new-zealand-zoo-15328787
I have already been busy curing several problems this morning. In one school here the entry forms for the MLK Art and Poetry Contest were sent to the secretary by me a month ago, and were supposedly sent on to the rest of the faculty by her. Today the teachers figured out they didn't have the form.... Secretary tells them she sent it to them... Does she resend it... Nope! The teacher THAT contacted me noticed that one of the attachments was blank. I sent a new pdf to her and she now has it. She has sent it along to the rest of the faculty. Bet they will get a "blank" one too. Got to love the way email gets automatically cleaned up of anything that could be a problem now... WARNING!!! You are trying to open a document you downloaded from the internet (or email)!!! It could contain a virus or other things!!! Uh, yes, I downloaded it myself from a secure place..... so leave me alone! M$ office does THAT on the Mac all the time, even for files I created myself!
I'll be checking email a lot today I think.
Have one short item to write up today (Moment for Mission for church Sunday), then on to cleaning house, doing laundry, and some work on the layout.
Later!

Good Morning Modelers!
Sorry I have been AWOL these past few days as W**K has been overwhelming my time including basically working Day and Graveyard on Monday; so no RR time for Darren.
Was over 60F yesterday and it's 20F and snowing today. Got to love the weather here as it's a constant crap-shoot and funny to watch our Weather folks try to out guess what is happening several days in-advance.

Good afternoon everybody!
RAin/sleet/frain {freezing rain} and snow on its way to us! Then some bitter cold a comin'. Can't complain though, been a mild winter already.
TMarsh Since shortly after eating the $5 Crunchy Burrito Box from Taco Bell (bongggg). Woke up in the middle of the night with the chills and then the sweats, no fever either, and indigestion that would not go away no matter how many Tums I took. Better this morning though Stomach a little uncomfortable, but not like last night or even yesterday afternoon.

Well, TODD, if'fn ya ate the BOX, well OF COURSE you will have indigestion!
cudaken Galaxy I saw you live by Whole Sale.Com local outlet. Are they a reliable company t deal with?
Ken, yes, I live about 45 highway minutes away from Lantz's Hobby shop....AKA wholesaletrains.com. They are in Horseheads NY, {think ELmira-COrning area}.
I have always found them to be fair and easy to deal with. I have order in the AM, and had the stuff show up on my doorstep in the PM!!!
It matters not to me if I have it shipped or drive there {and back} the gas or shipping costs work out about the same. {If I drive there, I tend to spend more on the CC!}
SOme items that are not listed as "next day" will take a few days, generally orders are out and/or delivered in 3-5 business days. I believe they give you the option of partial shipment if items are taking longer to get.
Of course, If I DO have a problem with tehm, I can just DRIVE there to complain LOUDLY!
EDIT: KEN See later post ALSO for info on wholesaletrains.com here in the diner.
Well, Y'all have a nice day, If'fn you wish to!

HO and N Scale.
After long and careful thought, they have convinced me. I have come to the conclusion that they are right. The aliens did it.
Have just finished running ALL my locos on a test track. Have decided to sell no fewer than 8 of them. (7 steam, 1 diesel)
Set 2 others aside as "undecided". This leaves me with 24 "keepers" to run on the layout.
Funny thing is two of those "keepers" are not exactly runners. One is a 0-6-0 tank loco (Mehano?) which represents the first loco in a train set my parents gave me as a child. It's noisy and runs like a rabbit, but I love it for what it represents. The other is a Docksider (Bachmann) which waddles down the track like an overweight duck.
Going to wait on those replacement trucks w/ couplers and see how they work on some vintage cars before tackling that hoard.
Wind is gusting like crazy. With no forest behind the house anymore, what is still standing is really leaning. Look forward to having those remaining big trees removed. One huge pine could easily cut this house in half.
Hey All,
Lion- Is that your picture?
Der- Great Pics
Jeff- Nice modeling scenes.
Rob- Can we see a list of what you are getting rid of?

***Curt, here's the list. (all N-scale)
0-6-0 Tank Loco AT&SF
0-6-0 Old Timer Union Pacific (Minitrix)
4-6-4 Hudson Union Pacific (Concor)
4-8-2 Heavy Undecorated (Bach Spec)
4-4-0 American (Bach)
4-6-2 Pacific w/5Pole AT&SF (Atlas)
2-8-0 Heavy Undecorated (Kato)
F40PH Amtrak
Will put the proceeds towards a new "Hiawatha" set. To overcast and wet outside to take good photos, so I'll wait for a sunny day. Will be listing next week on the-bay, along with a smattering of cars.
Forgot all about the 0-4-0 Sifter w/ tender and the 2-6-4, both of which have been added to the "undecided" list.
Curt Webb Hey All, Lion- Is that your picture?
Yup. My father took that picture at the Branford Trolley Museum. I joined the museum many years back, and I got to run one of their subway cars down the track a mile.
QUESTION: On a DCC-ready loco, if it comes with a decoder installed, can it be removed and then run like normal on a DC layout?
***ROAR, that must have been fun.
Cheers! Rob
Cederstrand QUESTION: On a DCC-ready loco, if it comes with a decoder installed, can it be removed and then run like normal on a DC layout?
***Jeffrey, Thanks! Was half expecting to report on an acquisition, but after placing my bid with 10 seconds left, still got outbid in the last 3 seconds. Didn't really want to pay more anyway, so that is OK with me. Would be better to sell off some locos first anyway.
Off to do evening critter rounds. Rob
My father was one of those that got to drive one of those Turbine Cars. A long time friend of dad's was a Chrysler VP. Actually, Chrysler's turbine development continued much later than most think, and came to an abrupt end under suspicious circumstances. There was a very sharp looking turbine powered car based on the LeBaron/Diplomat coupe platform in the late 70s. Many of the earlier turbine drawbacks had been worked around, and the car was very near production worthy. Chrysler's turbine program was not ended by choice. For no stated reason, the 1980 government bailout of Chrysler stipulated that all turbine engine development be ceased. Some speculate that it was due to political pressure from GM and/or Ford.
jeffrey-wimberly Somewhere on these forums I saw a photo of a Chrysler Turbine car and it got me thinking about the short history of the Chrysler Turbine. If I remember correctly there were originally four 1962 model year cars fitted with the turbine engine. Two Dodge Darts and two Plymouth Fury's. In 1963 the now famous Turbine Car was brought out. Elwood Engel, head of Chrysler styling had worked on the 61-63 Thunderbird when he worked for Ford and it showed in the Turbine Cars styling so much that some referred to it as the Engelbird. Of course there were many differences. The Turbo Car was three inches trimmer than the T-bird. The front was simple if not blunt but the back was absolutely wild. It had boomerang cavities with large angled taillights. The backup lights were in turbine styled housings. Then there was the paint. A bronze body with a black vinyl roof. Under the hood was Chrysler's fourth generation turbine engine, the A-831. Fifty examples were built by Ghia in Italy. The field test of the cars were done by residents of all 48 continental states with each using a Turbine Car for about three months. A total of 203 people drove the cars between 1963 and 1966. Very little maintenance was required in comparison to comparable piston engine cars. Acceleration lag was one to one and a half seconds. Gas mileage on low grade fuel was disappointing, about eleven miles per gallon. Chrysler never released any official gas mileage numbers. Acceleration from zero to sixty was under ten seconds. Not bad for a 4,100 pound car. Meanwhile Chrysler was testing a fifth generation engine, the A-875 in a 1964 Plymouth. That was short-lived as a sixth generation engine was ready by 1966. This was fitted to a Dodge Charger fastback and a Dodge Coronet 500 hardtop. Chrysler planned to build five hundred turbine-powered Coronets for retail sale but new government emission standards nixed the idea. Only one turbine-powered Coronet was built. It hung around Chrysler engineering until 1972.

Reality...an interesting concept with no successful applications, that should always be accompanied by a "Do not try this at home" warning.
Hundreds of years from now, it will not matter what my bank account was, the sort of house I lived in, or the kind of car I drove...But the world may be different because I did something so bafflingly crazy that my ruins become a tourist attraction.
"Oooh...ahhhh...that's how this all starts...but then there's running...and screaming..."
Afternoon, all!
Wind is blowing the snow sideways! Went from 48f yesterday to 20f today.Ish!
Hey Jeff, was it you who needed an end ladder thingy for an Accurail covered hopper? I might have one . I'm building 4 Wisconsin Central CH's and I think they included an extra end. Let me know.
That's all for now.
Prayers for those that need them!

Evening All,
Just got done eating Chinese at home, and now drinking a cup of decaf (helps settle the stomach). Have to w**k again tomorrow. I got soaked by the rain today when I was on a call, but I guess that's part of the job. I thought briefly about working on the layout but I just don't have the energy tonight and probably go to bed early.
Rob- Sorry I just assumed you were talking about HO equipment.
Lion- Good to see what you look like.
Everybody have a good night.

Found it, Jeff! It's the end without the brake wheel. It's kind of a buff ( lighter) color if that makes a difference to you. Matched it up to a built car, it looks like the right piece. If you PM me your address, I'll figure out a way to mail it to you safely. I still can't reply to PM's yet, but will tell you on here when it goes out.
Let me know!
Hi KEN...{and others}...Although I already answered your question in an earlier post. I thought I should spell out something. {ANd for anybody else who wants to know}
Many complain about wholesaletrains.com carrying a higher shipping/handling charge than others, BUT here are some statistics:
>wholesaletrains.com charges $53.99 for a Bachmann Diesel DCC ONBoard loco {REAL example- a GP7}.
>MB Kline [modeltrainstuff.com} charges $ 65.99 for the SAME loco.
>Another local hobby shop here is closing their store and going webbased. They are charging $78.40 on the web for the SAME loco.
>>>>NOw, last I knew for a small business {a friend had one} is that UPS charged I think it was $5.39 for the first pound of a package to ship ground 5-7 days. So assume Around $6 now with prices/costs going up everywhere<<<<
>wholesaletrains.com MAY charge you $10.01 shipping and handling for putting it into a box and lableing it to you.
>modeltrainstuff.com may charge you $8.00 for same
>and the third example may only charge you the $6.
SO: wholesaletrains.com has the HIGHEST shipping/hadling cost, BUT:
wholesale trains loco comes out at $64.00,,, MBKline comes out at $73.99 and the third one comes out at $84.40 for the SAME loco.{forget aobut any taxes also owed- I would have to pay NYS sales tax}
SO...WHICH IS STILL coming out as THE BEST PRICE??? wholesaletrains.com!!!!
{{>>I am NOT Affiliated with them and get no special treatment or discounts form them<<}}
Just thought enquiring minds would like to know.
Galaxy- I have to agree with you. When I was buying Atlas Flex Track, Cork roadbed and turnouts they were the least expensive and also the same on several Cornerstone kits. You have to shop around because different sites have the best pricing for specific things.

Time for me to call it a night. I went to the fire dept meeting tonight to learn about the new brush truck that's being bought. It's a 2012 Ford F350 and is currently being fitted out with some of the things the dept needs put on it. Too bad I won't be there to see it completed. Tonight the chief informed me he doesn't want me working on the trucks any longer because of the risk of injury. Next week I'm making my retirement from the dept official. I'll not be there as some useless relic. If I can't work as part of the dept I don't need to be there. Tomorrow I'll be getting my gear together for turn-in. Badge #3 will no longer be on the roster.Got a little more done on the layout but not enough to make any difference in appearance.See y'all tomorrow.
Evenin' folks!
Janie just a decaf. I'll go sit by the stove for a few minutes and relax.
Been busy doing a few things today. Got the wash done and hung up. Run the dryer for a few minutes tomorrow to finish. Updated a couple of documents needed for the Art and Poetry Contest this weekend, wrote my Minute for Mission I will be doing on Sunday during Church. Got a call asking me to usher this Sunday. Since I will be there anyway, I might just as well do something useful like usher. Started picking up and putting away stuff I have had out while w*rking on projects down in the layout rooms. Did the same upstairs..... Haven't begun to really clean house. THAT has to get done before Saturday! I have some Family members coming over to visit the layout and then go out to dinner on Saturday (two SILs and a boyfriend of one of them who is into trains...). Oh! I did find time to finish the second turbine and mount both of them and the Steam Boilers on the floor to be installed in the Boiler House I have been doing. Photos sometime this weekend... I hope.
Going to be monsterously busy weekend I think, Got a call from the minister who is President of the MLK committee and he has been in contact with one of our Scholarship winners form back in the 90s. The lady has agreed to come and speak at our Scholarship Dinner in May. She was one of my favorite students way back when. Anyway he wants a flyer to pass out at the service on Moday about her coming home to speak. Her brother is now the asst. Superintendent of Geneva Schools. Her Father was a former principle here and taught 6th. grade when I started teaching here. He was one of my first good friends in the district. I think i will enjoy the Scholarship Banquet this year! just don't know when I will get the flyer done???
Best be heading out to bed soon. Prayers for all in need!
