Didn’t they extend DST under Bush Jr? Funny story about that, Brenda woke up Monday morning and came storming in the office (actually the bedroom with the computer I use as an office of sorts. Sounds good anyway) here staring at the clock on the computer screen. She said something about the time. It was 0700. She grumbled about over sleeping. And how I changed the clock or messed it up or something like that. Turns out the clock had automatically fallen back an hour apparently Saturday night and we never noticed it. Saturdays and Sundays are not a get up by a certain time so the alarm is not set. Funny the things you don’t notice. Good news was, that as it turns out I didn’t wake up at 0400 after all!
I though DST was created to allow additional hours of light after w**k a long time ago. I didn’t think it had anything to do with energy savings. Hm, learn something new every day.
Welp, best gather up the stuff I’ll need and get shaved for the closing. Don’t want to be late. Better leave about 0900 and it’ll take about a half hour to get there through downtown can’t get there from here because of the oneway roads have to drive 26 blocks to get around the corner no parking for 83 blocks with 20 minute parking meters that run out before you can even run to where you need to be let alone do anything before you get a parking ticket Hades known as Springfield, Illinoyz! Love it.

November 6, 2011 at 0200hrs clocks get turned back 1 hour, unless you live on Coordinated Universal Time (Zulu) at work like me and the clock never changes.

Before 1883 I was told people used “Gods Time”. When the sun rose in the morning you set your clock for 0600 and when the sun set you set your clock to 1800.
So now for our Amateur Radio Operators in the diner: If you search the airwaves you will hear the Naval Observatory in Bolder, CO and Hawaii read the correct time every minute. How can you tell which radio station you are listing to if they only provide station identification on the hour?

In Germany, we owe it to the railroads to have a standard time throughout the country. Up until the 1870´s, each town and each village had its own time, making it nearly impossible to come up with a meaningful (and legible) timetable for the railroads.
Little me thinks, that the contribution the railroads made to the development of mankind is still grossly underestimated
I don't like changing the time twice a year. It ticks me off.

***C.N. Charlie, the miniature Zebu are considered a rare breed, strictly for pet trade. Some folks might milk them, but I don't know about that. Our first bull, Old Bill was a Foundation Sire. Little Bill, his son, grew larger than his daddy, but is also a pretty handsome bull in his own right. He seems sterile, as none of these cows have produced any offspring. Since finishing the front pasture fences, the big horses have not required any additional hay thus far and miniatures do not eat much. Eventually, that will change sometime this winter. Most critters have their own water sources here on the farm and since we no longer breed any critters, all the extra feed is no longer required. Still, it isn't exactly cheap, either. Next year I might sell the herd of cows.

Now Daylight savigns time is another matter of time past when it was introduced time after time it changes our clocks two times a year..

Ulrich OK, your day was harder as far as time to your self. Hours are taking a toll on me. Worst part is I am not sleeping good on the couch. Feel tired when I get up and have to drink coffee around 4:00 PM just to stay a wake.
Lack Of Training again. No training to speak of again, going on 2 weeks and still don't know much about the tires we carry. Talked to my friend out in KC and Steve said "that sounds about right" as far as lack of training? You pretty much need to train your self.

Yep, one of the things we discuss when giving tours of the depot at the R&GV RR Museum is the ancient old RR clock on the wall. It still keeps time better than most electronic stuff today. Has to be adjusted about one minute every year I think...... Here in Geneva before RRs one of the factories used to blow it's whistle soon after sunup which signaled the time to get yourself to wo&k. At noon (when the sun was at the highest point) it blew for lunch hour so the wife knew her husband would be home to gulp down food and get back to the factory. Then they blew the whistle again to signal when quitting time was. The railroads created "Standard Time". One little fact we usually include is that Congress debated it for 60 years before adopting it as law..... (some things never change.....)
As far as Daylight Savings? I just get up when I feel like it and go to bed when I want to. Doesn't matter a bit what the clocks say most of the time.... Retirement is great!
Railroads contributed a lot of things to our culture including several hundred phrases like "Being on track", "Hit the ground running", "Letting off steam", "Being sidetracked", and "Living on the wrong side of the tracks".

I take a medication that has the side effect of impending sleep. So I gemerally get some sleep. But it can wear off, and that doesn't mean I don't get up about 2 times a night to watch some TV until tired enough to go back to sleep...
I do have another prescription sleep aid I can take periodically but if I have to get up then I don't like to take it cuz it makes me extra tired.
I know Ulrich has had some problems with his sleep pattern...but Jeffrey..... you are developing a pattern here that I hope is not leading towards something bad for you!?!?

Good afternoon and a happy All Souls Day to you all! (Was going to mention THAT earlier and forgot...)
I have been getting all the documentation together to apply for my NMRA Achievement Program Certificate as an Association Official much of the day. i am wating for one more email stating I have carried out my "duties" in a timely and appropriate manner, and then just finish filling out the forms..... I will hand deliver the completed forms to the Division AP Manager when i see him in a week at a train show. Then he signs them and forwards them to the Region AP Manager who reviews and signs them and then they get l;ost in the mail for a few months..... Eventually they are found and approved and I get another thing to hang on the wall of the train room...... THAT will be certificate #4 which leaves me 3 more to do for MMR. If I live long enough, learn enough, and keep at it.... who knows? I have had a lot of fun so far in the program.
I got the chain saw running today, found all the missing tools I like to have with me, and cleaned out the back of the truck so I can hopefully cut up a tree tomorrow at a friends house. Tonight I have Scout District Roundtable to go to. I missed last months meeting so I guess I should go and see what is going on. i have to find and sew on to one of my uniforms the patch that says, "Untrainable"..... I need to update my uniform shirts as all of them still have some patches left over from the old council. One of these days, maybe.
My sister and her friend have headed out to New York City for a few days so guess who gets to drive up to Canandaigua to feed her cats? You get three guesses and the first two don't count! They are traveling via Amtrack as he loves trains.

Had an appointment at tires+ (1:00) today for tire balance, which was covered. Didn't get out of there until almost 4:00. Ran a few errands in town and then when I hit a stretch of open road, the same bloody vibration began as before, felt mostly through the steering wheel? It was slightly better than before I took it in, but certainly isn't highway safe, IMO. Any thoughts as to what it could be?

***Jeffrey, it happens when going strait. By the time I hit 60, the vibration about doubles in intensity. I'll have to see if it does it during a "gentle" 55mph curve or not. There is a road I can check that out on tomorrow and get back to you with results. -Rob

Today was my short day (8 hours) so I'm at home tonight. The weather has been really nice this week. Tomorrow it is supposed to be 80 F then cool down a little for the weekend. Probably going to bed early as I'm pretty tired tonight.
We had no kids come to our door for Halloween. I'm glad we didn't buy much candy.
Jeff- I had a chuckle with the idea of your Dutch Cleanser car being so dirty.

Hello Rob, Did they spin balance your tires or bubble balance them.? Along with the suggestions that Jeffrey mentioned you might have a broken belt in one of the tires. ( or did you get new tires ?.) If they are the same tires try putting them on the rear to see if the vibrations go away. ( If the vibrations move to the rear it's probably in the tires or rims.)

Rob How many miles on the truck? One of the things that drove me nuts with my 68 Road Runner was a vibration. Turned out the rear end and slipped just a little on the leaf springs and the pinon angel was off. Might have a 4X4 shop check it out.
Used Car Talked with Dan again, could not make it out to look at the car. Plus I did the math, with another 10 days to payday I would have no cash left, I thought about asking to borrow some money from a friend and decided against it. I think Dan will hold it for me, and he will be out of town this weekend anyway.
Here is the car I hope to get.
Talking with Dan is like talking to a old friend. We have so much in common, he collects coins, love old cars and likes Wolfhounds as well! Hum, need to ask if he likes trains next time we talk.
E Bay I was bored today and was poking around on E Bay. Seven years ago I was hooked on it. Today came real close to rejoining, but stopped my self as I was half way through the form. I swear I spent $30,000.00 on E Bay (car parts). Nothing like shopping and full of beer! But I sure got some cool stuff!
Well, that about it tonight. Going to watch NCIS on CBS.Com and run some trains.

Went to the Scout Roundtable tonight. Chatted for a while with our District Executive. One of my units is probably not going to around for long unless some kind of miracle happens for them.... They have no new Cubs so far this year. Only 4 other boys left, and one of them moves to Scouts next March..... None of the recruitment drives they have done have brought in any new boys. Could be a long fall for me as Commissioner.
I am trying to figure out in my mind how I can reproduce this building on my layout.... There is no NYS Cobblestone premade wall material, so I will have to fabricate it somehow. any ideas?
This building was built in the 1830's I believe.... It was a blacksmith shop. All of these type of buildings were made prior to the civil war as they were all hand made and required a great deal of labor. The stone is local stone pulled from farmers fields or found o the shores of Lake Ontario. It was glacial till. If I could figure out how to make an original of the side of the building, I could make a mold and make more....

Well, today´s is "M" day - moving day. We expect Petra´s relation to arrive early in the afternoon. They will stay over night with us. Petra will spend the better part of the day in the kitchen to prepare all the goodies we will need in the next days until the new household has been set up in working order. It´s a lot of work, but she really likes to do that. She is a gem (did i tell her that lately?)
Ray - on that brick structure - there are many ways of doing that brick work. I have seen folks using Styrofoam sheets, engraving the texture. Looks fantastic, but you´ll need a steady hand and a lot of time and patience to do that. Here is what I´d do - take a look over the Big Pond! UK model railroaders do a lot of scratch building of brick houses. There is a company supplying down loadable textures, for a very small fee. You can print those textures on a high quality printer as many times as you´d need it, glue it on cardboard - here are your walls. This is what the texture looks like:
