<p>In Germany, we owe it to the railroads to have a standard time throughout the country. Up until the 1870´s, each town and each village had its own time, making it nearly impossible to come up with a meaningful (and legible) timetable for the railroads. </p> <p>Little me thinks, that the contribution the railroads made to the development of mankind is still grossly underestimated [swg]</p>
