God Evening

We had s**w here...that word that must not be spoken showed up here this afternoon..did not stick around but it was here

[begin rant]

I had fun driving around here..all kinds of construction destruction was our lot today..could not go anywhere without some kind of construction going on...even  on our quiet crescent..had to go back out to the main road and go around as the wonderful city closed our side of the crescent with a nice big hole in it...only a year after they got it all nicely paved...

The hole will be here over the weekend as well...grumble grouch mumble snort....

[/rant]

Chloe, I'll just have a chamomile tea and a chocolate chip coolie...I'm going to the RC to set for a spell...

Ulrich ... I'm very pleased to learn about THAT job. Best wishes. ... We'll understand if you have less time in the Diner as long as you are here as much as you can and ....... of course, you remember to bring some of Petra's strudel sometimes.

Barry ... I like the winter scene, but .......... WOW! ..... That's some streetcar!

Paul ... I hope you are looking in. Galaxy may be moving the Diner through Texas. Perhaps, you can flag down the train so we can visit there.

WEll,

I got a few things done today.

Sprayed the door gaskets on the Kia Sedona Minivan with WD40. Since they freeze shut, and the recommended silicone spray didn't work, and one other trick didn't work, I figur it can't hurt to try WD40. AFter all the WD stands for Water Displacement. AND that seems to be the problem- water settles onthe gaskets and freezes there. I read one blog on the internet {and LOTS complaining about frozen doors on both the Sedona and the Toyota Sienna Minivan} that the problem is the material the gaskets are made from - the composit material- that is the real problem. It doesn't absorb water, but doesn't shed it either. That may be. We will see we are to have some chilly temps coming up and see if the doors freeze shut again. May havet o spray often this winter.

Oh, speaking of WD40, it now comes in a can with a "perma-straw" that you will never loose unless you cut it off! I was surprised to find it at Wallyworld that way....Took half a can to spray down all the door gaskets. NICE Feature...It has taken them at least ALL my known lifetime to finally figure that out???

Well, once again my body says it is 9:45 and time for bed, not 8:45. Wonder how long it will take to adjst? I even took an evening nap. Didn't help.

So...

G'nite!!!

I got to looking at the Tyco gondola I was working on today and I noticed it had 'Made in USA' on the bottom. I looked it up on the Tyco trains resource and it turns out it's a 1960's era Red Box offering (No. T310-H). This makes it one of the oldest pieces of rolling stock I have. Can't tell it by looking at it. It looks brand new.

Well it's time for me to call it a night. I'm just can't keep my eyes open, so I'll see y'all tomorrow.

We just observed our minutes silence an hour ago for Remembrance day...

They shall not grow old, as we that are left grow old, age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn, at the going down of the sun and in the morning we will remember them. Lest we forget.

Galaxy- have you tried using petroleum jelly on the door gaskets and around the door where the gasket touches. Apply a thin coat to both areas, my dad used this trick and never had a frozen door. It might be a little cheaper and last longer.

Evening all.  Just stopping by for a hot chocolate as its getting a tad bit nippy out there!  Low tonight is supposed to be around 29, same for the low tomorrow nights only into the lower 60s (according to the weather prognosticators around here).  i have to w**k tomorrow from 0930 to 1830, so I'm probably about to head off to sleepy land soon.  Got home not too long ago as we had to run into town, turn in two Red Box movies, then get dinner and run to Wal Mart to look at a few things and pick up some odds and ends that Amy forgot when she was at the store a few days ago.

Well, not much else happening around here, might dig around on modeltrainstuff.com and see what all I can add to my wish list for Christmas.

Later taters!

Ulrich, Congratulations!! That's great news! I had a nice day today.  I stopped by our local watering hole on the way home and bought a couple birthday drinks for two of my best  friends. They were both Marines in Vietnam and I thanked them for their  service. It was a good time. heading to bed. I will check in tomorrow. One more question? Did I say or do anything wrong in the Diner? Just wondering if I broke a rule or said something wrong?

Well, Otto, If the WD40 doesn't do the trick, or if it "wears out too soon", then that will be my next try.

I found LOTS of complaints in blogs on the 'net, but NO solutions!!! you'da thunk somebody would have tried something that worked! I don;t knwo how a mommy pressed for tiem in the AM to get kids off to Day Care adn then get to work herself does it if the bloody doors are frozen shut,a s even heating up the vehicle with the rear heats on doesn't seem to help. They only come unfrozen when the temps warm up enough.

The problem is My Other Half {MOH} wears a very long fluffy winter coat, and the silicone and whatever else we tried on the gaskets rubs off on the coat, so will anything we try. Its embarassing for MOH to have streaks that may or may not come out down the coat when going out!

*sigh*

Sigh

Good Morning Gang!

Today´s Veteran´s Day, Remembrance Day or Armistice Day.

Here is a picture of the document which started all of the grief and misery that followed:

Incredible that 9.58 million young men had to give their lives just because a bunch of degenerate aristocrats had a quarrel and wanted to play war! Please include also the 2 million German servicemen who lost their lives on the battlefields of Verdun, on the banks of the rivers Somme and Marne and at the Chemins des Dames and other places in Europe. Hard to believe that my grandfather survived this ordeal. He was wounded near a city cally Armentieres in France, being just 18 years old.

Flo, I´ll have a cinnamon roll and coffee, please.

Have a good day.

Good morning. It's 34° and sunny. The high will be 67° and it will remain sunny. Wind NNW at 0.

Happy Veterans Day.

So far I have only one project lined up for today. An old Mantua gondola. This is the type that has the trucks that are half plastic and half metal with a small metal coupler pocket on the metal part. It should be an interesting conversion.

Last night I heard plenty of noise outside so I went out to investigate. It was my nephew and some of friends moving stuff from one truck to another. A while back he bought a used and neglected Chevrolet Silverado and rebuilt it to running condition, but he was never happy with it. He's a Ford man. So yesterday he came across a Ford F-150 4X4 that he liked and in talking to the owner discovered that he was interested in the Silverado. So they swapped. Now my nephew has two F-150 4X4's. The one he already had has a busted tranny that he plans on replacing when he can afford to.

Good Morning!! Coffee and a breakfast pile please with sausage thank you.

Today I have another “visit” with the attorney. Hopefully this will end in the release of my Executorship. Actually I know it won’t today, but today is the day we make the checks and the final dispersions. Then when the checks have cleared and the account is closed, then the Estate will be closed.

Doing laundry now then wait for the phone to ring for some “emergency” for me to jump thro…. OH! Latest on the “What? Where in the world did you come up with that?” list (chuckle). Brenda was talking to a friend of ours Mother last night and she asked if we were divorced. Why? Well, let me tell you. Some other mutual acquaintance had seen what she claimed was Brenda’s picture with a name of Brenda something else (started with a T) on, yes, Facebook. And she wondered if we were divorced. The friend said not that she knew of. She doesn’t see us that much but figured she’d have heard. Anyway, Brenda was telling me this and asking me if I knew who this mystery Brenda isTongue Tied. I said I don’t know. But that didn’t really stop the questions. Somehow, it seems to be my fault that this other pea brain mistook this other Brenda's picture for my Brenda. And I’m supposed to give a reasonable answer as to why she would think we were divorced and are less than blissfully happy. Because I can’t give a good answer, as usual, this somehow leads her to think I might have something to do with this or am hiding something and I…I…I don’t knowLaugh. I am used to it and it’s almost comical. Like I said before, this doesn’t happen every day or week. It comes in spurts. Maybe 2,3, even 5+ years before she gets the feeling something is amiss. Or, it could be this afternoonIndifferent Laugh.

Welp, washer just kicked off. Time to switch to the dryer.

Ya’ll have a Great Day!!!

 Morning Folks

 Flo, big coffee please!

It's Pay Day! Just called the number on my pay card and there is the correct amount on the card. Now I just got to figure out how to get the money? Whistling Details, details, details.

If I where not trying to buy the second car, I could pay all my bills for this month. But we have to have a second car, my wife is getting nutter being stuck at home. On my days off, I either stuck at the house or rushing around to get things done so Sue can have the car.

Got Banker Hours Again This Week. Guess it is time to tell the manager I am a MIT and should be working 50+ plus hours a week. Going to wait till Tuesday so I can enjoy my 6 hour day Sunday! Whistling

Galaxy On the freezing door rubbers, why not just leave the doors on the first latch? Door will still be locked and seals will still keep the water out. That what I do when I know we will have some nasty stuff coming.

 See you all later

"THANK YOU" to all who have answered the call and served. In particular, my Dad, WWII vet. He was the lead bombardier for a group of B24 Liberators. Following one particular mission a hole was discovered in his seat. How he didn't get hit remains a mystery.

Have a good day.

Tom,  I don't mean to be a Butinski,  but, tell Brenda to do the wash to give her something to do & think about rather than having to much time to dream up these things that some of them watch on "Sex in the City" or "Desperate Housewives".

I got the coupler conversion on the Mantua gondola done. It now has a pair of Kadee couplers in Kadee #242 draft gear boxes. This project immediately became more interesting than the norm when I discovered that the trucks were all metal and the bottom of the car is a thick metal plate. Cutting the coupler mount off the truck proved to be difficult so I simply grabbed it in a pair of pliers and bent it back and forth until it broke off. Next I drilled and tapped two holes in the metal bottom of the car then super glued the gear boxes in place. When they were dry I installed the couplers, put on the gear box covers and secured them in place with a screw for each box. After that it was a simple matter to put the trucks back on. A quick check with my Kadee coupler height gauge showed the coupler height to be dead on.

So taking the subway to work is not an option for you?

Well, we don't have one out here either, but then we have about 9 cars in our home fleet. My favorite is the bright yellow Pontiac Astek. Apparently they do not make them like they used to. But this one would look real sharp and right at home with a pintel mounted machine gun on top. ☺

I always wondered what the fuzz would think of a (model, non-functional) machine gun or rocket launcher on the bed of a pickup truck. They might not be amused.

Fairly chilly here today, temp in the 40's. Went and got a haircut and now doing laundry.

Thank you to all the Veterans that have served and the military members that still are, also prayers for those that have paid the ultimate sacrifice for all of us.

Todd- I feel for you. I refuse to have anything to do with Face book.

Rob- Please thank your Father for his service.

Ulrich- I am sending prayers for Germany's dead. I know that the average soldier was only doing  his duty.

Everyone have a good day.

Hello and I hope it is a good Veterans Day and Rememberance Day. Nice to see all the comments in the forum. Ulrich is correct that we should be mindful of suffering on bothe sides of a conflict regardless if its WW II or any other. The US Civil War was among the worst with some 600,000 deaths. There is ample evidence of that in this region with many cemetaries. Also, we are close to Fort Campbell and see the troops in uniform often. Many fly the Blackhawks in training exercisins, and we see them often. We are thankful for the troops and their families.

Regarding Model Railroading .... Curt your E7's in WPF look great. When I was growing up near Chicago, we road on Pennsy to get to the East. .... Lion, yes, I rode on many subways. Mostly Chicago, but in New York a couple of times.

My newest acquisition is the GN E7 here at Union Station. I purchased it to haul short passenger trains. I can run longer trains such as the Empire Builder, but they get in the way of other trains I am operating at the same time.

Mornin' everyone!

A special "Hats off" to all the Veterans out there today, 11-11-11!

Zoe I'll have a couple eggs over easy, whole wheat toast, a glass of Ed's OJ (where is THAT guy BTW?) and lots of Dark Roast Coffee in a FGLK Mug.  Oh and bring over last nights newspaper if you would.  I want to catch up on who's robbing whom these days here in town.

Todd, your story sounds familiar from several decades ago in my life....  My wife died over 25 years ago.  Right before she died she was absolutely convinced I would be happily remarried within 6 months of her death!  Guess I showed her didn't I!  I wonder how many men start cheating on their wives because their wives are already convinced they were?

We are already at today's high here in the Finger Lakes, 41°F.  At least the sun is shining now and then.

I shall be stacking wood, checking on supplies for our tables for the Batavia, NY show on Sunday, running off items for it on the printer, and feeding the wood stove today....

Catch you all later!

Today has been a good day for out-the-apartment-window railfanning.  I saw the AMTK Phase I heritage unit and a full length Amtrak dome heading south.  Not sure where that was going.
