Good morning. It's 63° and mostly cloudy. The high will be 80° and it will be mostly cloudy. There's a 60% chance of rain after 8 pm.

I spent a good part of the afternoon yesterday rebuilding a Proto 2000 E6 chassis. The front truck for some reason had a short I just couldn't resolve. The rear truck needed side frames but it would be much easier to simply replace it. So I changed out both trucks with those from an old E6 I had in the junk box. It had a damaged frame and couldn't be run. So while I was at it I changed out the motor. It now runs like a champ and is adorned with an E7 body. This make two E6's turned E7's I've gotten through trade from the same source. If the delivery dates are right I should be receiving a Busch Airstream trailer and a Great Northern shorty covered hopper #173906 (maker unknown) today.

Mornin'!

Just poping in to get a cup of dark roast to go.  On my way to get my hair cut.  Probably will have him cut all of them while he is doing it....

Another icky wet, damp, miserable day here in the Finger Lakes.  Currently 39°F with a high of 40°.  Will get the killing frost tonight.  May get down into the high 20s they say.  I have to get ready for the Scout Meeting tonight.  It is supposed to be sn*wing off and on latger today, but there is not supposed to any accumulation.

Later!

Coffee in a  BURLINGTON NORTHERN  mug, please.

Truck decided to start today, so it's now parked where I can remove the contents (old barbwire) into the burry pit.

Took a flat tire from the van into town and they said the rim was ruined from fix-a-flats (which my wife used periodically). I can't remove the spare because whatever bolt or nut holds it on is sheered off. Well, it was going to remain parked through winter anyway.

Discovered I lost a lot of weight this past week or so, but not the good kind. Realized I had stopped eating any substantial source of carbs. This has been corrected now, so hopefully there will be no further loss. (oops)

Not much else to say. Sigh Rob

Got my new (to me) Olympus D550Zoom camera today. Now I can take photos without the camera suddenly turning off when I press the shutter button or attempt to adjust the zoom, etc. The camera in the photo is the old one but the new one looks just like it, just a little cleaner.

Also got my Busch Airstream trailer.

Here's that Great Northern shorty covered hopper. Looking at the coupler pocket covers makes me think MDC but I could be wrong.

Coffee refill, please.

***Jeffrey, I always thought those Busch Airstreams were very cool. Are you going to dull it ever so slightly or leave it as they would sometimes be seen, rather shiny with some road dust around the base? Also, congrats on the camera.

The weather guessers say today is the last warm day of the year here. I think they're probably correct this time.

How do? Bucket of coffee to go please and thank-you...

ROB: Glad to see you back in here even if only briefly, we're still thinking of you, we're here if you need us.

JEFF: I could be mistaken, THAT happens once or twice each year, but I think THAT two-bay Centerflo is a Front Range/McKean creation. It looks like whoever knocked it together didn't do too bad of a job. I've found the end ladders/cages on them don't always go on as nicely as advertised, causing some extra w**k to ream out the holes, file/cut/scrape off all of the flash, fill in gaps, etc.

Gotta get to getting going... time to get ready for w**k, I've got 2nd round high school post season volleyball to cover tonight.

Take care everybody,

Chris

After some extensive searching on the net I found that this hopper was made by Front Range. Somebody did a good job putting it together. I can however see a few places where they had trouble around the ladders. I'm in the process now of patching it. Gone are the Great Northern markings. Soon the L&A lettering will be applied.

Good morning all, I see we are on the home stretch on our visit to Germany.

Once again Ulrich it's been a great trip.

I've just finished watching the video of Mike Dannemans Moffatt Road layout, that is one of the best layouts I've ever seen. The scenery is very impressive, and his backdrops give a great illusion to depth.

Thats about it for now, hope all is well, I will check back in later.

Jeffrey, have the bobcats kept the snakes away? BTW, love that Airstream!

Snakes, coons, squirrels, possums and a bunch of other critters. Anything gets in the yard has the potential of becoming a meal. A couple of weeks ago they scored an 8 point buck that was brazen (or stupid) enough to go in the yard. They know people are off the menu (bad things happened when one of them nipped someone) but that doesn't keep them from scaring the crap out of the occasional salesman or group passing out religious pamphlets. Stray dogs and cats aren't safe either.

The Airstream will be shiny for only a short time. It's going to be dull and dusty with dirty windows and some junk around it.

 Evening Folks!

Flo, a Beer for me I pay around for the dinner.

Worked my first 11 hour day and I was ready for more before when I left. Yea I was a little tired, but not butt dragging tired like Tuesday. I did ask Steve (Manager) to show me how to work the new fangled tire machine. (Never seen one like it before) He told me "No affiances but that is why I feel they should only promote from with in, you need to be able to do the work to lead". I do agree to a point, but I never seen that kind tire machine. Plus just because you can wrench does not mean you can sell.

So I went out to the shop, started yanking wheels and installing them. (still have not been shown how to use the machine) But Steve saw I was not a hands off kind of manager either. Later during a lunch break I was give he nick name of Little Ken. Steve said he only picks on the good people, so i guess I gained just a little respect with him.

Steel Toe Shoes. I was told today I needed a pair with anti oil slip soles. I was thinking Red Wing Shoes. I need something with good support and cushion my sore feet but still some what dressing looking. Any other ideas?

Rob Personally I see no reason Fix A Flat would ruin a rim. They should be able to buzz the stuff right off when they clean the rim so the tire bead will seal.

Amazing how many post happen scenes I last logged in.

Todd Hope you areDead Friday Morning! Go Cards!

HELLO EVERYONE! I spent the day for the most part working on my bench work. I thought I would get it done this week but now  I have my doubts. I seem to be old and slow These days?? It seems like all of my ideas take a lot longer than I think they should.......

Little Ken, I just started my 27th year at ups. and I have spent a lot of time on my feet. Years ago when I drove a package car I learned quick and early that Red Wings are the only way to go they may cost a little more but they last.  I still wear them every day I wear the Irish setter, Elk trackers.  Even though most of my day is spent sitting on my behind. Maybe ask a mail person who has a walking route? They might have a good suggestion. good luck. I am glad you found some work.

Rain set in today shortly before sunset and has continued off and on all evening. Radar shows some heavy stuff moving in our direction so it's time to shut down. See y'all tomorrow.

Evenin' folks!

Just a decaf to finish the evening off for me....

Huh?  Oh earlier?  Barry, no beatles.....  But they were all around as I drove to Penn Yan tonight.  Just some little white thingies falling out of the sky....  Haven't even had a hard killing frost yet (Tonight is supposed to be it) and Sn......  sn..... ahem, S n o w was coming down....  In fact it is time for me to light the wood stove and get the house warmed up.

Railroading MB went well tonight with the Penn Yan Troop.  I think a couple others have decided to take the MB along with the dozen boys originally signed up.  I am really hoping I can get some of them a cab ride on Sunday when they visit the museum.

Ryan!  Good to see you, sir.  I will try using the finger licking rub on the popcorn next time I have some.  May need to do THAT tomorrow.

My son left his car in my driveway and took my truck.  I need his car to pick up granddaughter #1 from school and take her to daycare tomorrow.  His car has the child seats in it.........

Have a geat evening!

Chamomile tea, please.

***Barry, that thing looks like one of those "Transformers". Cool!

***Ryan, it's so good to see you here after so long. You sound mighty busy these days. Hope the job continues for you, that is unless you actually want out of it.Whistling

***Jeffrey, do people eat coons? The others I get, although I would have no interest in dressing any critter these days. Suppose if I was hungry enough. What does coon taste like?

***Ken, when I take the car in for an alignment (different place), I'll bring that tire with and ask those guys.

Going to go watch an old black & white sci-fi movie from a box of them. Good night all.

Good Evening,

Say I guess getting invited to dinner at Jeff's could be a real culinary adventure!

Ryan, good to see you in here again!  No RR for 3 years!!!!  How are you coping with the withdrawal? Good luck on the job front.

Rob, nice to see you in the diner. I was just wondering the other day what sort of critters you have on the farm and how many? Yes I"m snoopy. I know you have pygmy goats and a minature horse but do you have say, chickens?  How are the 2 new pups doing?

Well late again and nothing much accomplished this evening. I said to my wife a while ago that evenings are just too short and I think they must be getting shorter or maybe I'm getting older and slower. No that can't be it.

Anyway time to take out the dog one last time before bed. He is now up to 59 toys that he can retrieve by name. I told my wife she had better make up a list of the names because I can't always remember them but the dog does. Not a good sign.

Evening all.

Sorry I've been out the past few days. It's been crazy.

Monday and Tuesday, I was sick (ugh). So I have to catch up on all of THAT school w**k , plus what was assigned yesterday (no classes today, more on THAT in a minute).

On top of THAT, I'm still trying to finish college apps (only for the first round of schools). The schools THAT take the Common App have everything they need on their desks, other than transcripts, which my school mailed Tuesday afternoon. Rutgers, however, is still not done. I sent in the application itself a few days ago. However, instead of mailing them a transcript, you have to self-report your grades on their website. Basically, you take EVERY piece of information from the transcript, and submit it through their form. It's not hard, it's just a complete PITA! Bang Head

Ryan, good to see you again!

Rob, glad to see you have made it back. Hope you are doing well.

Ok, so today. The seniors didn't have classes because we had a retreat. We had visitors from Straight & Narrow, a drug/alcohol rehabilitation center in Paterson. These people are amazing. The people who come and talk to you are (former) druggies who are currently going through rehab. They are REAL people with REAL addictions. Their stories are terrible, but they're so moving. You know that they all want what is best for them. However, statistics show that only one in five people who go through rehab will stay clean. You can tell which ones will be that 20% they are the ones who want it the most. Their stories are the worst, and you can tell just by the way that they tell them that they are absolutely committed to staying clean, and you know they will. Over the next couple of days, I'll tell stories of the ones that I KNOW will make it. Here's the first:

Tricia is 30 years old and grew up in the area where I live. Her father was an alcoholic and left the family. The mother and children had difficulties paying bills, but always stayed together. As she grew up, Tricia constantly worried that one of her siblings would be an addict like their father. Little did she know that it was going to be her. She had everything going for her- she was smart, athletic, popular, etc. She drank and smoked, but only to have fun. She went on to college and continued her habits. Her best friend was brutally murdered, and Tricia turned to more and more drugs. Soon, she began going to jail. Ten years before, she was in the newspaper for sports. Now, she was in it for getting caught stealing TV's from Walmart. It was really bad. She eventually looked as if she were dead. One day, she was sitting on the side of the road doing drugs, and an undercover cop came up to her. He told her that he wouldn't even arrest her because she was so far gone that she couldn't be helped. She eventually came to Straight & Narrow, and is doing amazing. She is clean and ready to leave in two weeks. She will move in with her sister and try to get her life back. When she tells her story, she is so passionate about it because she knows how much she needs this for herself. I have complete faith that she will be successful and stay clean an live a normal life.

Over the next couple of days, I'll tell a few more horrible, but amazing stories.

That's it for me. Catch ya later.

-Joe

Good Morning Gang!

Today is Friday, October 28th, 2011 - Molli-Day on our tour throughout Germany.

Some more facts about Molli:

The line´s total length is just a few feet short of 10 miles. It was opened in 1886, but completed in 1890. The gauge is unique for Germany - it is 900 mm (short of 3 ft.), as opposed to the more common 750 or 1.000 mm "standard" narrow gauge used elsewhere in Germany. The line is completely steam operated, the locos built in the early 1930´s. in 2009, a new steamer went into service, built according to the drawings of the old locos. Rolling stock consists mainly of passengers cars from the early days of the line.  The line is serviced by 22 daily trains, running every hour in each direction. Molli is a regular railroad, not just a tourist line. Shareholders are the county of Bad Doberan, the city of Bad Doberan and other minority shareholders. It employs 66 people and earns a little more than its keep.

A "new" steam loco, built in 2009:

Tomorrow, we will go to Lübeck. Lübeck was once the capital of the medieval merchant guild called "Hanse", a powerful organization having more political clout than any king of those days. The Hanse network consisted of trading posts all the way from Norway deep into Russia. The economical decline began, when the English and Dutch took over the world trade in the 16th century.

Lübeck served as a testing ground for the "moral bombing" strategy of the RAF during WW II. On March 29th, 1942, RAF bombers dropped 25.000 bombs on the medieval city, nearly wiping it out completely.

The adjacent U-boat shipyard and other industries escaped unhurt.

Lübeck was rebuilt in the years following the war, the reconstruction work finished as late as 1986. The city got back its medieval character and is now part of the UNESCO World Heritage.

Enjoy your day!

went to the Dentist for a cleaning yesterday and to do some errands. Had a migraine setting in and couldn't take my migraine pills as they make me sleepy.

All clear "for the next 3,000 miles" on the teeth. GOod.

The migraine pills did naught. I can belive it with the snain {snow and rain mix} we had yesterday. all day.

Dunno about today.

Good to see Ryan Boudreaux in for once...and a few others.

WEll, thats about all for now.

Have a great day!
