Mornin' everyone!

I'll have a breakfast bagel with sausage and cheese and lots of dark roast coffee this morning.

Ken, congratulations and best wishes on the new job!  Sounds like one you can count on......Whistling

Tom, hope a room opens up soon so your wife can get out of the "high rent" district.....  Don't worry about the quality of your house w*rk.  Your wife getting better is the primary goal!  I bet she knows THAT too.

Today will be "Mow the Lawn Day"!  Hasn't precipitated liquid sunshine for a couple days and tomorrow we start getting the stuff being sent to us from the midwest.....  So today I will mow lawn.  Hope to finish up a few items on the layout before I put everything away and start getting it up and running for Saturday.  Then I clean house......  Have a Dermatologist appt. tomorrow which will reduce the productivity then I'm sure.

Best get moving!

[edit]  Looks like the rest of the day is on me...  Be nice, I am just getting my Credit Card paid down to where I can pay it off every month....

with all that is going on, I forgot to wish KEN well at his new job!

Well, got teh wheel kit for the generator. One is supposed to mount the wheels and then inflate them to 30 PSI. That would be OK and great IF they were standard sized valve stems! Instead they are smaller! Smaller as in "cute, but smaller". I do NOT have such an animal. After calling one Harbor Freight # for "technical support" {where I swear the guy was in India}, he referred me to anohter "technical support #" I think in CA. After waiting 18 minutes on the phone to get "served" I hung up. I called the Harbor Freight store here locally and asked about an adaptor for the smaller valve stem. I was told {I think by the manager} that"oh yeah, we should have that on the wall here". Maybe, we will see. I also need a pressure guage for the same small sized valve stem! This generator business has NOT been easy one! Again, you would think if Harbor Freight is gonna sell this stuff, they would sell the parts needed, or have them standardized to our English system or even to standard metric system.

MOH is fearful we will lose power as we have two storms heading our way tomorrow clashing over us. They have changed the forecast slightly and said they should "separate adn divide on either side of us". MOH wants the generator ready, but I sure would like to have the wheel kit on BEFORE it gets filled with gas and oil so we can lay it on it's side per instructions to make it easier to install the wheels. THEN because we only have an enclosed porch, we have to figure out a way to protect it from the weather should we need to run it...I want my brother's help to build a kinda dog house for it as I just can't do such things anymore. That can be like pulling teeth. It has to sit outside to run, but needs to be protected from the weather as well. COvered up with two waterproof tarps right now is fine, but we can't run it that way. We have a "tent canopy" we could set up, PROBLEM IS it Is NOT water proof!!! Ah, but maybe we could set it up and cover it with a tarp! Dunno. It's not really a sturdy thing for a viscious storm either. but could work...maybe. I'm affraid the tarp will rub against the ribs of the tent canopy and wear a hole through and leak all over the generator.

Well, MOH had to go help inlaws, so waiting to get back so we can go to Lowes, Harbor Freight, etc and do some errands. Taking longer at Inlaws than expected, figures. Not that we begrudge them mind you, but when we have free time they want nothing, but when we have a gazajillion things {and TAHT is a  LOT of things} of our own to do, they want the moon on a silver platter. go figure.

Hope ULRICH is all right now too! Would love to hear form him!

WEll, I will go and let you have some peace from my rablings.

Have a great afternoon!

Geeked

I got my Tyco covered hopper today. That was fast. I wasn't expecting it for at least another week. It's being fitted with body mounted Kadee couplers as I type.

It's in very good condition considering it's age. The only thing missing was the brake wheel and there's hardly a scratch on it.

EDIT:12:56 pm

I got the couplers mounted and nailed the height dead-on just eye-balling it. I borrowed the couplers from a tank car I don't use much.

Good afternoon my friends,

Many prayers of hope and healing for those in need.

I hope that healing comes quickly...

Glad to have found my way back, again...  seems I keep saying that, and then RL gets in the way again... Grr  but with my new w*rk situation I should have more time to hang out at the RC!!!!

Speaking of the new "situation" as I will refer to it from now on,  I am now 'situating' a regular assignment!  and my wife finally found a j*b here in VA!!!  She was getting rather frustrated with all the interviews she was going to with no results, but I believe it was God's way of saying "No, those aren't the right ones for you.  Look here, this fits nicely, and they will give you more than you are asking for!"  Thank you Lord for those blessings!

On THAT note, time to hit the shower and get ready for the "Go Home Train"!!!   If you would be at all interested in 'monitoring' my progress home, check out this website : http://www.vre.org/

my go home train is 335 (Manassas Line)  Departs Union Station @  :   6:10pm

The website has an realtime update map showing where the trains are.   Occasionally though, the GPS receiver loses signal in some of the low lying areas so it may "jump" a bit.  All in all, it's a great tool for the commuters to use to gauge their ride time back to their initial station!

Hope to catch up with you later on this evening, as my scheduled time off Duty is supposed to be 8:10pm  (I've learned the hard way NOT to make definitive TIME sensitive plans while working on the RR!!! More often than not, Murphy will poke his head in on my train and say, NOPE not going to make it to THAT tonight! LOL

As Bill & Ted have said, "Catch you later DUDES!" Smile, Wink & Grin Stick out tongue Smile, Wink & Grin

P.S.

I wonder if they will require me to change my screen name from Trainman to Engineer, since the unions might have some issues with it! lol

Sam

May He bless you, guide you, and keep you safe on your journey through life!

 Evening Fellow Dinners!

Flo, Beer please and a Roast Beef Sandwich and tender of chips. OH, flat car with a dill pickle on it.

Got our running done today, with good results. Did a little shopping and took Sue to Burger King. My wife just loves fast food? My self, with out her being a long maybe 3 times a year.

Jeffery Tyco Old Dutch Hopper, you know I all most started to ask if I could get that off of you! But, I think I have more of them than I need.

I have around 30 of them now. I drove the price up on E Bay single handily from $3.00 to $8.00 a few years ago. I have learned a lot from them.

Todd Not a Red Bird Fan? Well at lease you are not a Cub's Fan.

Galaxy Why not just get stranded vale stems installed in the generator wheels? Even if the holes in the wheels are a little small just open them up with a drill bite. Probably easier in the long run!

Tom Hope things are going better for your wife. Far as the house keeping, well it will give her something to do when she is up and about! Whistling

Ulrich I sent him a PM today, sure hope we hear from him. Sent him a small package a few weeks ago and hoping he has received. I am starting to wonder if the dinner is going to move again.

 See you all later.

Yeah, I'd say you have enough of them. I want to hang onto mine for a while. It's only the second one I've owned. The first was more years ago than I care to remember right now.

After getting the Tyco hopper converted to Kadee's all I had left in front of me was a couple of cars that were underweight. A boxcar and a gondola. A few sheets of lead cut from a roof vent took care of that. The lead is so soft I can cut it with a 5.5 inch pair of scissors. I bought two of those vents at Lowe's a couple of years ago with this purpose in mind and they've saved me a bunch on weights.

OzJim, hope you are meaning you got through your storm. Will await your later post on that, and good to see you in again.

Jim in Cape Girardeau

Yeah we got through the storm, it was a doozie! we had 5cm (2") hail at home, it was lucky my car was parked sheltered under some large trees which stopped most of the hail hitting my car, I only have a handful of dings on my car, compared to a work mates who has hundreds.

Here is an image a lady down the road took and got in the paper:

I was standing more or less underneath it when she would have taken this, we were playing cricket at home, the storm moved in very quick and was labelled "Very Dangerous" by our Weather Beaurau. Day turned to night for about 25 minutes as the storm passed over.

Here is a pic of the Hail and one of the of front before it came over Brisbane

Best storm we've had in a long while!!

Evenin' folks........  I'll talk softly so I don't wake up Galaxy.

Just a decaf for me please.  I'll go sit in the back booth and relax for a bit.

OzJim, THAT is a mean looking storm front.  Glad you didn't get whacked by any of THAT hail!

Jeffrey, looks like you have been having some fun with some projects.

I've been busy all day!  Got the entire lawn mowed, put away some tools outside, picked another couple quarts of string beans.  Went over to each of the houses of the folks opening their layouts and got photos of the places to put in the directions we will pass out at the Meet.  Did a bit more scenery stuff on the layout and spent quite a bit of time picking up and putting away tools, supplies, and odds and ends.  Tomorrow, I have a dermatology appt. early afternoon.  The rest of the day will be spent cleaning the layout and the house as well as finishing packing for the Meet.

Here is the front of my home with the whistle post installed.....

BTW, you can see my pole beans along the deck.  They have been very prolific this year!  They continue to produce.  Almost makes me want to have a hard frost.......Whistling  The few summer squash still hanging to life you can see also.  Brought in a beautiful zucchini today.

Have a great night.  Prayers for all in need (and we seem to have quite a few)!

Evening all!

Just stopping in briefly before bed.

Today's retreat went very well. We had 105 students from five schools. Nothing we couldn't handle, especially since the kids behaved themselves. The hardest part of the day was setting up a giant circle of 140 chairs in the cafeteria. We almost couldn't fit them all!

For those wondering about the chairs, they're for a game called "I Like People Who..." All the chairs are set up in a giant circle, and everyone's sitting in a chair. One person without a chair is standing in the middle and introduces themself,  "Hi, I'm Joe." Then, everyone responds, "Hi, Joe, Welcome!" The person in the middle would say "I like people who _____." Then, everyone who the statement applies to has to get up and move to a different seat. The person who is left without a seat is "it" next. It's a lot of fun, especially when you really get into it! Laugh

Galaxy, thanks for the prayer candles. There are so many people in our lives who are going through tough times and really need are prayers, and I know they appreciate them.

And Amen on the doctors. I can't imagine where we would be (or wouldn't be) without one. I am thankful every day for my health and that there are people looking out for me.

JR, not too late at all for that car. My locomotive didn't leave yet, since trying to go against rush hour traffic on the Northeast Corridor is a bad idea. Smile, Wink & Grin And besides, now that there's a car, it won't have the speed restriction of a light locomotive! Geeked

Sam, good to see you back here again. Congrats on getting a regular assignment, and your wife finding a job! You made it off the extra list far faster than most other engineers. From what I'm told, the average time spent on the extra list at Transit is about ten years! THAT's definitely one of the perks of being part of a smaller crew base.

OzJim, THAT's a nasty looking storm! We're supposed to get one of those here tomorrow.

Ray, neat whistle post! I'm guessing it's authentic?

Well, it's getting late, and I do have to go to THAT dreaded place tomorrow. Come to think of it, I think we should make it a forbidden word like w**k...

I have sch**l in the morning, so I better head out.

Peace out,

-Joe

Good morning All,

54F and rainy this morning. We're on the edge of the rain Barry's getting so only an inch or so predicted for us today. Not much else to report this morning - no progress last night on the layout - just watched the one eyed hypnotist for a bit then turned in after w..k.

Bama - other than that not much else to report eh? Congrats! This is child #2 right? Hope your daughter takes to siblings as well as ours did and our prayers for you and your wife and your expected (and your daughter)

Oz-Jim - That's some impressive storm. I loved the shot of Brisbane. My only memory of OZ was a brief visit to Harold E Holt out in the desert away from everything and seeing the greenery reminds me of how much we missed. I keep hoping the CFO and I will get a chance to visit some day.

Well, (already full and not really needing any more rain) lots to do again today beginning with a batch of stuff to magnaflux.  Catch y'all later,   J.R.

Good Morning All,

I’m only 11 pages behind, but now I’m all caught up.

I broke down Friday night and bought a new computer.  I spent the last 4 days moving the furniture around in the computer room getting ready for the new windows and setting up the new computer.  The decal printer will not work with the new machine, so I’ll need to set up the old laptop to run the printer.

I bought a PowerSpec G212 (64-bit).

I7-2600, Win7 Home Premium, 16GB RAM, 22x dual layer DVD drive, dual Radeon HD6790 PCIe video cards crossfire (2GB GDDR5 memory w/7.1 surround sound), Drive C: 2TB Seagate Barracuda. Drive D: 4TB Seagate Barracuda (2 x 2TB HDD, RAID 0). 22x dual layer DVD drive. 500w power supply.

Jeff, the “MU” cables look great.

Welcome aboard Mr. Dispatcher

Ken, congratulations on the new job!!!!!

1.55”: the amount of rain we need to break the record for the most rain ever in this part of Ohio.  Currently we are beating Florida and Washington State for the wettest place to live this year.  By Friday night we are forecasted to get a total of 3.3” of rain.  I think we have had 10” more than Seattle.  Our record is around 55”.  I wonder what this winter snow fall amounts will be…

I was shocked to hear about Barbra!  I did send an email out to those I had on file.  Rob has had a horrible past 12 months.  Wind storm, lost a couple of animals, dog passed away, several trees falling on the farm, buildings severely damaged by a tornado.  Prayers that he continues to be a pillar of strength in the days to come…

Morning All,

I can only stay a minute. Yesterday I was at the lawyer office in prep from 0930 until 2300. Today at 0930 is the hearing with the arbitrator. I will  be shocked if our side does not win. I will  try to talk to you later today. Take care.

Bama- Congrats on the new baby.

 Morning Folks

Flo, coffee please and a English Muffin.

Sue has out patient surgery today, sometime this morning so I am up ready to roll.

Sam Glad to hear things are going well for you and the wife.

James It looks the aliens ships coming in from the movie Independence's Day! 2 inch hail, that will do some real damage.

Ray Garden at the front porch? Well it is close and you will never forget about it. Like your Whistle Post. I bet most of your neighbors have no idea what it means.

  Bama Congrats on the son!

Otto Did you see my question about what part of Indy you are from? I grew up at 116th St and River Ave right on White River.

Getting to be time to make a Hard Choice. Crying Tiffany (American Eskimo) is going down hill fast. I don't see her making her 17th birthday Dec 20th. She now seems not to be able to put any weight on her right front leg. Does not want to eat her dog food and real picky about any food. We use to be able to stick her pills in cream cheese, she won't touch it now. When she does eat, she chews real slow looking for pills. So I have had to resort to forcing the pills down her throat. I think she hurt right front leg more while fighting me when I give her the pills.

I know it is about time to have her put down. But, I all most cannot bare the thought of taking her to the vet to have it done. When we are at the Vet, she sits in my lap and keeps looking up at me for reinsurance. I don't think I can bare that knowing why we would be there for.

Well, you got to do what you got to do. Unless she seems better by Thursday, I will have to have a heart to heart talk with the wife.

Hope I did not bring anyone down with the talk about Tiff. But it been on my mind all night, made it hard to sleep.

 See you all later.

Good morning, Chloe.  I will have coffee in a NP mug, please.

I didn't have a photo from the layout, so I will add this one from the NP museum.

Good Morning!! Coffee please.

Occasional rain, mainly after 1pm. High near 49.

Hey Bama! Congrats!!!!

Ken- Didn’t want to speak too soon and jinx it for you, that’s my luck you know, so Congrats to you too!!

Sam- Glad things are working well for you.

Aussie Jim- Wow! Those are some cool looking clouds. I know you politely refrained from the weather report after the storms due to the circumstances that arose here, but I hope no one was injured in these storms. But they sure are pretty. Ours are just big ole grey, black or the run for the hills green.

OK Ken, you brought me down. But, I don’t mind. I feel for you deeply. I am a super dooper dog lover and my little overweight baby is just that. My baby. I cannot bare to think of the day I will have to make that decision. It would be like putting my own child down. I so sorry it has come to this, but I know you love her enough to do what is best for her. She has been your child for so long. You're in my prayers for strength.Angel

Got another day of million things to do before the Rangers beat the Cardinals tonight. So, gonna watch Ziva on the corn-pewter then off to start my day.

Ya’ll have a Great Day!!!

Good Afternoon Folks,

I am back, after having to take an unwanted time out in our local hospital, where Petra had taken me after collapsing on Saturday. I am not feeling well, but I am home, which is very important for me in these days.

Our tour throughout Germany will continue, though slightly off schedule.  After paying Garmisch-Partenkirchen and Berchtesgaden a visit , we are  in Nuremberg right now, touring the city´s sights:

The tour takes us also to the place where that infamous Austrian and his cronies celebrated their rallies.

After visiting the Museum of Transport, we will head off to Wuerzburg.

We will stay over night at Gasthof Stadt Mainz in Wuerzburg and will enjoy a hearty meal and a selection of good wines.

In the next days, our tour will take us to Dresden and some of the narrow gauge steam lines of that region.

Here is  a map of Germany showing our itinerary:

Here are also some pictures from Garmisch-Partenkirchen:

... and Berchtesgaden:

Enjoy!

Spent many Friday & Saturday nights there with friends until the light of day Oops Embarrassed. Sorry to here about your dog Tiffany .  It will more than likely Today with Tiff. I had to carry her out to the yard so she could pee. She tried to come back in on her own but only made it 10 feet before I had to pick her up and bring her in. Sue made her some ham, she only ate 2 small pieces. She loved ham.

Heard from Ulrich. While he did not say what was wrong, he has been in the hospital. Went in on Saturday and said he was there a few days. Still not feel good and will be laying low as he put it for a few more days. There was some Mailbox Buddies funds left and I sent him a Kato Engine House. He got the package today and dropped me a line.
