with all that is going on, I forgot to wish KEN well at his new job!
Well, got teh wheel kit for the generator. One is supposed to mount the wheels and then inflate them to 30 PSI. That would be OK and great IF they were standard sized valve stems! Instead they are smaller! Smaller as in "cute, but smaller". I do NOT have such an animal. After calling one Harbor Freight # for "technical support" {where I swear the guy was in India}, he referred me to anohter "technical support #" I think in CA. After waiting 18 minutes on the phone to get "served" I hung up. I called the Harbor Freight store here locally and asked about an adaptor for the smaller valve stem. I was told {I think by the manager} that"oh yeah, we should have that on the wall here". Maybe, we will see. I also need a pressure guage for the same small sized valve stem! This generator business has NOT been easy one! Again, you would think if Harbor Freight is gonna sell this stuff, they would sell the parts needed, or have them standardized to our English system or even to standard metric system.
MOH is fearful we will lose power as we have two storms heading our way tomorrow clashing over us. They have changed the forecast slightly and said they should "separate adn divide on either side of us". MOH wants the generator ready, but I sure would like to have the wheel kit on BEFORE it gets filled with gas and oil so we can lay it on it's side per instructions to make it easier to install the wheels. THEN because we only have an enclosed porch, we have to figure out a way to protect it from the weather should we need to run it...I want my brother's help to build a kinda dog house for it as I just can't do such things anymore. That can be like pulling teeth. It has to sit outside to run, but needs to be protected from the weather as well. COvered up with two waterproof tarps right now is fine, but we can't run it that way. We have a "tent canopy" we could set up, PROBLEM IS it Is NOT water proof!!! Ah, but maybe we could set it up and cover it with a tarp! Dunno. It's not really a sturdy thing for a viscious storm either. but could work...maybe. I'm affraid the tarp will rub against the ribs of the tent canopy and wear a hole through and leak all over the generator.
Well, MOH had to go help inlaws, so waiting to get back so we can go to Lowes, Harbor Freight, etc and do some errands. Taking longer at Inlaws than expected, figures. Not that we begrudge them mind you, but when we have free time they want nothing, but when we have a gazajillion things {and TAHT is a LOT of things} of our own to do, they want the moon on a silver platter. go figure.
Hope ULRICH is all right now too! Would love to hear form him!

Today will be "Mow the Lawn Day"! Hasn't precipitated liquid sunshine for a couple days and tomorrow we start getting the stuff being sent to us from the midwest..... So today I will mow lawn. Hope to finish up a few items on the layout before I put everything away and start getting it up and running for Saturday. Then I clean house...... Have a Dermatologist appt. tomorrow which will reduce the productivity then I'm sure.

I just finished some ironing (I think my wife would sit down and cry if she saw the results} and getting ready to clean the living and dining rooms. We still haven't heard back about openings in any of the skilled nursing units.
Bob - I understand completely about not wanting to take a promotion. When I was on the Fire Dept., I always refused to take the Lieutenant's test. It was a job where a Lieutenant was in charge of each shift, and had all the responsibilities for structual and crash-rescue operations at a major airport, as well as two military air bases. The downside was you had no real authority. The few bucks in pay versus all the aggrevation just wasn't worth it to me.

Good morning. It's 64° and wet. The high will be 71°. The chance for thunderstorms is 50%.I woke up at 5:30 this morning to thunder and rain. The rain continues in a slow drizzle but the lightning and thunder has moved on. The storm is moving ESE and radar shows it about to cross into Mississippi. The trailing edge of the storm is moving through here now and radar shows no activity behind it. The rain gauge shows 0.59" so we got half an inch. It was much needed and we need a lot more.This mornings photo shows a foggy morning in Sundown.

He has a lot of things to do, last minute things he had no way to plan for and things move too fast to really have time to let things settle in as to what has happened. The grieving process really takes place after the services. At least for me anyway. Problem for me was I had soooo many things to do in that month and those that followed, I had no real time to do it. I hope Rob is able to give himself time. As strange as it sounds, it is an important part. When he is ready, I’m sure he will return to the diner. I sent him an E-mail and he knows I care about his situation. That’s all I need. I wish I had my “Elliot’s Diner” car finished. I have the car, it’s just in pieces working on the interior. Or I should say was. I guess I am, just have to get back to it. That would be the car I would send. Maybe we can pretend it is done and it is part of the train. Of course with all the stuff that’s in this car, it’ll need all the locos and a few more ponied up by Jeff just to get it to roll. I still haven’t figured out how it all fits in this car. I think Kalmbach's techs just made a oopsy and the removal of something happened unexpectedly during whatever they were trying to fix or update or something else. It happens. With the way the things are tied together in the programs for these contraptions, my hat's off to them for even knowing where to start, let alone how it all fits and works. Life is a bit rough on the home front again. Nothing major I suppose just a little bumpy in certain areas (double ). I don’t seem to have as good a shock absorbers as I used to have (chuckle). Situation is not helped by the fact my entire family, including Overweight Missy (the dog for you newer folks who haven’t met her), are Cardinal fans. BIG Cardinal fans. Being a Ranger fan I am on the fringes of being an outcast anyway and now that the Rangers are going to beat the Cardinals in the World Series, I will be no more than Navel lint to them. Picked out and flicked who knows where.
Oh well, I’ll just chock that up to ANOTHER fine mess I’ve gotten myself into.

OH, last job! They fired the guy they gave my job to! Current manager sales are not as good as what my where. Makes me feel a lot better!

Good Morning All,
Just a regular to go in my New Haven travel mug please Zoe. More gearboxes to do today - finish the VW based one and start a Renault based box - all modded for use in midengined formula juniors.
Jeff - made sure the cookies were turned on for the Trains site but the post still vanishes as soon as I hit POST below on the new 'puter. Other than that it functions just fine. After patching the old Dell numerous times I finally got a new HP which suits me better and has just a keyboard without all the myriad extra buttons that I never use anyway. The other thing I like is the function buttons across the top work directly instead of the tiresome fish for the control button first thingy. Still setting parts of it up so we'll see if Ican find what I haven't activated yet as it doesn't seem to be the site here.
That's some impressive train we've sent for Rob. It's nice to see how much people care for each other here at the diner as Todd has already mentioned. If it's not too late I'd send an American Flyer coach for all the folks going along and tag it onto Joes NJT locomotive to meet in Atlanta.

Ok I will have scrambled eggs, sausage patties AND bacon, homefries- extra crispy and topped with melted extra extra sharp NY or VT cheddar cheese, two points of whole wheat toast with very berry jam, 2 slices of French toast and 2 pancakes with REAL NY or VT Maple surple. I'll have about 4 cups of hazel nut coffee with Splenda or Truvia {ever notice how diner's cups don't hold more than 4 swallows?} and a glass of ice water with lemon please.
What ever I don't eat I will take home in a TOGO container to finish for breakfast tomorrow, or as a snack for later lonight..

Our day is going to be a day of relatively slow getting of some groceries...and isiting a few neighbours here...
Our operating session included the usual suspects, non operating locomotives, two recalcitrant turnouts both in far reaches of the layout handlaid nearly #10 turnout seemed ot be working ok though....oh...and the coup de grace? My faorite...RS3 took a header to the floor due to nonturning turnout.

JimRCGMO Galaxy, from my attempts at getting to the forum on Saturday (not remembering that they said they would be 'upgrading' - a relative term at times...), I'd describe them as "You can look at all the goodies, but you can't touch them." I was able to find the last Diner page (with your post being the last one at the bottom, I recall), but the forum wasn't accepting any cookies as being there. I tried to post a response, but no go. Tried to PM/Conversation somebody, but no go there, either. Kind of like they had the forum pages set where only their sysadmins could write, and everyone else that was here looking around could only read (like an already-burned read-only CD or DVD). Didn't accept any logins, either. (Just bounced me to the Kalmbach login page - maybe a different kind of login procedure or something)... My best guess, at least. .....Anybody hear from Ulrich today? I was realizing that I didn't think I'd seen his post (since maybe his early morning visit?). Or maybe he got a job interview? Hey, we can say a few for that! .....I was able to get some good news this evening. Last week, I went back to my doctor (and found out my cholesterol was elevated - bummer....), and he had me re-do a urine sample, because there was some small amount of blood present, which I couldn't think of any reason for (nor could he), but he had me do another sample and had that sent to the hospital's lab (which can give more accurate/picky results on such tests). This past weekend, I get mail from the doctor's office (telling me I had an appointment set up in another couple of weeks with a urologist's office) and another with forms from the urologist's office. I'm thinking "oh, great, another expense out of that paycheck..." and wasn't happy that my doctor's office had gone ahead and set me up with the appointment without contacting me to explain the reason why. (But, I was not going to assume the worst on this one). So, I called my doctor's office over lunch and asked them about why things were done without contacting me. The doctor's nurse was supposed to call me at the office after I get back from lunch. This afternoon was very, very quiet, and no call. So, after I got home from w**k, I called my doctor's office again, and (after some hunting down somebody who could explain things to me, found out that after my doctor got the lab results back (and my doctor checked the results), they didn't show any blood in the urine this go-round. However, the office's procedure is that when they do that test again, the office gal (when the sample is sent out) goes ahead and schedules an appointment with the urologist, and mails me out a letter with the day and time. Then the urologist's office sends out their forms to me. I figure that if I had not heard anything from my doctor's office and had not called them to ask WHY, I would've wound up (thinking I had to be) going to see the urologist (the doctor's nurse happened to go home early today and never had called me before). Ah, the wonders of modern medical office practices... Oh yeah, the good part - I avoided THAT unneeded expense of the urologist's appointment (I made sure to call them after I got off the phone to make sure that they cancelled my appointment). Whew!

First- I thought we would be able to use the site as usual if we were logged in and had cookies for the site. Apparently it was, as you mentioned, a "read only " site for all. They {dkawala} should have mentioned that in their "sticky post it" thread of the few days prior to this weekend. I, and apparently others were led to believe if we were logged in and had cookies set before Friday Noon, that we would be able to use as usaul--including posting threads, adn posting responses. I was no the only one who got logged out automatically and hte site frozen.
Second- Ulrich had posted that Saturday AM and if locked out the rest of us, wasn't able to post any more then. He has been feeling low these days, as you may know, and his last job interview he found out he was *over qualified* and that put thim in a sour mood. We can say prayers for him but his reality is that having had a former high-ranking job, he is now over qualified to even clean toilets with a toothbrush or dig graves with a shovel! All we can do is say prayers for him and hope for the best for him. We can also support him here, in the diner, in case he lurks and sees our good intentions.
Third- as you may or may not know, I have a series of 18 medical problems. I even have a urologist on speed dial. so are 8 other Doctors and specialists to regularly address those issues. I take 28 prescriptions, not one of which I can do without . I have had two tumors removed form lumbar spine recently and have chronic severe lumbar back pain, I also have severe muscle weakness and fatigue. not being personal, but I can get utterly exhausted getting up from the couch and going {slowly} to the bathroom adn returning to watch TV. By the end of the day, I am not only walking like an 85 year old man leaning on my cane, I am totally whipped, pooped, wiped out and beat, muscle/fatigue wise. My Primary Care Physician saw to it that I got permenant handicapped license plates.
The point I am trying to making is be glad you have a Dr looking out for you and who has your best interest at heart. If blood showed up in my urine, you'd best bet I'd be referred quickly to the urologist. Again.ANd I'd GO. I am glad for every one of my doctors, and their time they spend with me. I know health care can be expensive, and I pay about a third of my meager monthly disability check to have the coverage I have. You could have a serious problem, and the expense you saved now, could cost you a lot more down the road. MAybe you just got lucky and won't have a problem serious enough for a urologist to see you. But I'd rather know for sure

PETCO- some of you remember the scandal at Petco during The Great Major Flood Of 2011 in September. If not here is the story, in brief. AS the waters of flash flooding rose at an alarming rate, and flooded out total areas not even touched inthe Great Flood of '06 {or the Flood of '05}, the PETCO employees begged the manager to take some of the animals home with them to help save them, when the area was evacuated. The Manager said NO. SO, aobut 300 animals perished by drowning in the muck , mud and sewage of the flood waters, mostly reptiles, rodents and even fish. Well the CEO flew in and tried to mitigate the damage and outrage and even PETA came and protested at the store location. It seems PETCO's claim is the city did NOT give them any warning. THe city claims they DID as they evacuated ALL PEOPLE from the low lying area there that tends to flood. Well- Get this- PETCO, in it's infinite wisdom, has decided to REOPEN here , though, after 2 floods, may not reopen in the same store!!!!!! I wonder how much business they will do????

ns3010 I'd also like to add a few people to the prayer list: Last week, the mother of the teacher in charge of Peer Ministry passed away. She had been sick for a while, so it was all for the better. Please keep Mrs. Smith (the Peer Ministry leader) and her family in your prayers. Yesterday, a local priest passed away. Father Tony worked at my school many years ago, and could sometimes still be seen at various events. He was in a coma after a car accident several months ago, and died yesterday. I just found out tonight that a very good friend of a friend of mine was the engineer involved in a fatality involving two teenage boys several weeks ago. I was aware of the incident, but didn't know that this person (who is a member on another forum that I am on) was the engineer involved. Coincidentally, I just found out yesterday that this person is a modeler and was featured in Walthers' 2012 HO Reference Book. I also found out tonight that my friend (the same one as above) had an 18-year-old cousin who was killed in a car accident two years ago. Please keep the family in your prayers. -Joe

I FINALLY got the Common Application done last night! It was completely finished, and I submitted it to my three Early Action schools, Northeastern, Villanova, and Catholic. There's still a few more things to do before the application process is done for those schools.
It's a little late, but I'll send another locomotive down for the Chapel Train. It's an Alstom PL42AC, 4200 HP, as well as HEP for HVAC and electricity in the cars. It'll meet the rest of the train down in Atlanta. (sorry, no photo)

Been a busy day as I knew it would be, but I did get quite a few things done. I cleaned up around the post where the whistle sign is hung, and put away the air conditioner in the dining room/office and assembled and mailed out all the newsletters to the Division members who don't have email. And... I got more done on the layout, just a bit more tedious odds and ends like some ballasting and building the wood crossings over some tracks. Tomorrow will be the last day I can do anything new until after the layout tour on Saturday. I have a lot of cleaning and getting ready. THAT will have to happen around a Drs. appt. and a couple meetings........

Last week, I went back to my doctor (and found out my cholesterol was elevated - bummer....), and he had me re-do a urine sample, because there was some small amount of blood present, which I couldn't think of any reason for (nor could he), but he had me do another sample and had that sent to the hospital's lab (which can give more accurate/picky results on such tests). This past weekend, I get mail from the doctor's office (telling me I had an appointment set up in another couple of weeks with a urologist's office) and another with forms from the urologist's office. I'm thinking "oh, great, another expense out of that paycheck..." and wasn't happy that my doctor's office had gone ahead and set me up with the appointment without contacting me to explain the reason why. (But, I was not going to assume the worst on this one). So, I called my doctor's office over lunch and asked them about why things were done without contacting me. The doctor's nurse was supposed to call me at the office after I get back from lunch. This afternoon was very, very quiet, and no call. So, after I got home from w**k, I called my doctor's office again, and (after some hunting down somebody who could explain things to me, found out that after my doctor got the lab results back (and my doctor checked the results), they didn't show any blood in the urine this go-round. However, the office's procedure is that when they do that test again, the office gal (when the sample is sent out) goes ahead and schedules an appointment with the urologist, and mails me out a letter with the day and time. Then the urologist's office sends out their forms to me. I figure that if I had not heard anything from my doctor's office and had not called them to ask WHY, I would've wound up (thinking I had to be) going to see the urologist (the doctor's nurse happened to go home early today and never had called me before). Ah, the wonders of modern medical office practices... Oh yeah, the good part - I avoided THAT unneeded expense of the urologist's appointment (I made sure to call them after I got off the phone to make sure that they cancelled my appointment). Whew!
Curt, thanks for the info on your roundhouse. I guess I should probably do more of that reading all the way through the directions before I even start on a nicer/more expensive kit.

Just sitting here hoping for no more calls today. OK I can occasionally be lazy at times. My back is itching like the dickens...aargh.
Jim- It is a Walther's Modern Roundhouse with the 3 additional stall kit installed. It actually went together very easily. What took the time was the pre painting and reading the directions several times while looking at parts.
Ken- I am glad the job front finally has worked out for you.
Bama- I have already asked MOH for 2 LRT signal logic boards and power supplies for Xmas.

Evening all. Stopping in for a plate of chicken fingers, fries, and a tall Dr Pepper. I had a very lucrative day as I was able to pocket about $100 from doing side jobs. Too bad that money has to go to fuel for the vehicles and some other odds and ends. That's okay though, since we're actually getting back onto budget and able to get ourselves financially straight enough so that I can actually have a MRR budget.
Jim, got your request and answered it. I now have another friend (yay me!) BTW, y'all can all add me as one, as I think of all of you as good friends, almost family-like.
Been doing some thinking about coming up with a "wish list" as its getting time for Christmas soon, so that my family can purchase those things which will fulfill a niche in my MRR needs.
I think that I'm going to hang around here, perchance I'll have a RBF, or sundae a little later, see whom else shows up.

It was at least nice of them to personally respond as it sounds like they did. The only thing I have to say is that, for me at least, the site was locked up and I see many of the regulars here also seemed to get locked out. I won't argue with them, though. I just had to go through some trains.com withdrawal!!! Whew! THAT was a tough few hours!

Everything else functions properly (E-mail and all that) so I've no clue what I've done or not done to post here.

61F and cloudy at dusk here. No rain til Weds and that's good. Spent the daymoving cars back and forth and doing billing so no real shop time at all. Ended up ripping out most of the second level structure yesterday and have added a hidden return track for the freight siding which can double as a hidden stage for a train around 12ft long. As we clean the garage and move more stuff out of the basement I'm getting nearer setting up the home computer which will allow me to post pics again. That way you can get a better idea of what I keep mentioning on the layout front.
Ken - that's still great news on the job front. Hopefully you'll be able to get a set of wheels that are up to the daily commute.

Boy I am beat! Between being sick and worried I feel like I have been beaten. Well the Worry Part Is Over! I meet with Dave and I got the JOB! I start this coming Saturday, and Sunday want to guess what I get to do? Inventory! Yep count 22,000 tires! I am going to need more fingers!
Couple of down sides but no big deal. I will be starting running a store in St Louis not the Fairview Heights store. Going to be driving around 60 miles a day and not he hoped for 19 miles a day. Dave is going to tr to work with the Manager there for another month. Does not give him a lot of hope, but i do respect that!
Next down side is when I will get paid. Pay is every two weeks, I am starting on the new pay period. That I knew. But they will hod back one week to check the figures. So, I will have to go three weeks with out a check, that will be tuff but I still have some savings.
Well I am worn out.

Rob: My condolences in your time of sorrow, You've got a lot of friends here who have you in their thoughts and prayers. I've often tried to imagine what it would be like to be without my wife of 46 years and I just can't.
Tom: I can understand what you're going through trying to do things in the house while your wife is in the hospital. My wife, despite her limitations, prefers to do everything herself and I don't know where anything is, but I've had to do more for her as time passes so I'm learning how things work and where things are. She has been in the hospital a number of times over the years for surgeries, but at least she can plan ahead and prepare some frozen food for me to eat and tell me where to find stuff. One time though she was unable to prepare ahead of time. She was badly injured in a highway accident and I had to fend for myself for 4 months. It was pretty rough, especially at first. We lived in a very small town and the big city and the hospital were an hour's drive away and there were no fast food joints anywhere near. I hope your wife gets the accommodations she needs soon and is well taken care of.
Ken: Your comment about middle management being like having a target on your forehead struck home for me. Back when I w**ked for a living I was in what I guess could be called a working foreman's position. I was asked a number of times why I didn't apply for for any of the middle management jobs (supervisors) that came open. I think my co-workers thought I'd make a good boss--or they wanted to get rid of me--and I'm sure that management felt that I had no ambition for advancement. My answer was that a supervisor had the worst position in the company. He got garbage from both directions, from the workers below him and the management above him. Once I explained that, they understood why I didn't want to move up the ladder.
